MIAMI (CBS12) — Twenty of the most influential world leaders could be headed to South Florida for a summit next year.

President Donald Trump is considering hosting a G20 event in Miami, a White House official said. The idea has been floating around for several weeks; and, recently, an aide was spotted carrying a “G20 Miami 2026” sign into a government building.

The G20 is one of the most important economic summits, comprising representatives of the 19 largest economies in the world, as well as the European Union and the African Union.

The plan would bring them all to President Trump’s golf club in Doral. The President previously considered using his own club as a stomping ground for some of the world’s most powerful men and women in 2020, during his first term.

That plan was derailed after public backlash. Critics have derided the notion of hosting an event at the President’s personal property as a potential conflict of interest.

No final decision has been announced.
