Some of the nation’s top junior golfers are in Louisville this week for the Justin Thomas Junior Championship, an American Junior Golf Association event. Tom Lane was there as the star of the week arrived to play host. What is more challenging in the last year, becoming a father or acting in a movie? I was going to answer becoming a father regardless of what you said. Second, at least uh at least the the movie I was able to be myself. If I had to do anything else, I probably would have been pretty uncomfortable. It’s been an eventful year for Justin Thomas, now father to an eight-month-old daughter and a role in the just released Happy Gilmore 2. He’s also been playing pretty good golf. He got PGA Tour win number 16 this season and is back up to number four in the World Rankings. But this week is about getting back to his roots. Some of my fondest memories are AJAS and junior tournaments. Yeah, I’m a pretty big fan. Um, it’s nice to have somebody to look up to from Kentucky. It’s a great opportunity for the reigning Kentucky state champion Athena Singh of Morehead to test her game. Yeah, it’s pretty cool to have such a wide variety of competition. And with AJGA, you always know that it’s going to be um pretty tough field. So, um, having that competition here in Kentucky is pretty awesome. This is the 10th Justin Thomas Junior Championship. nearly all of them here at Harmony Landing Country Club where Thomas grew up with the game. He’s been back for all of them and it always brings back lots of memories. Yeah, I mean I see all those kids down in the chipping green and just the amount of hours I spent in my life down there and up on the putting green there um outside the pro shop. I mean, I even thought literally just walking over from the the clubhouse to here just I can’t even fathom the amount of mozzarella sticks I’ve had inside that pool house um for lunch. But, uh, you know, I’d go in and ask my dad between lessons and beg him if I could go over and have some lunch in there. But, uh, yeah, it it just it I mean, this is this was my life. I arguably spent more time here than I did my own house growing up. So, obviously a lot of great memories. More to be made this week. The tournament begins Wednesday and runs through Friday. At Harmony Landing Country Club, Tom Lane, WDRB Sports.
