if you’re starting your golf swing with passive hands then you’re just making golf way harder than it needs to be by just focusing on your shoulders and your hips rotating you’re not creating a consistent pivot point for the golf club to pivot around you and return back to the golf ball the same way every single time and don’t just take it from me how about we focus on the number one player in the world and the most dominant ball striker we’ve ever seen so in today’s video I’m going to walk you through the three key things that he does to initiate his swing that every golfer should be doing if they’re trying to get better contact more distance and just a deeper understanding of why the golf ball is doing what it’s doing so let’s jump into the video okay so for this section of the video I’m going to recruit my friend the compact club catalyst and we’re just going to talk about the number one thing that Scotty Shuffler does to start his swing and what that is is he pushes down with his palms against the handle of the golf club and what this downward pressure is doing is it’s really creating a consistent stretch of the butt end of the golf club away from the torso okay and that’s extremely important because what that’s doing is that’s really anchoring the body into the ground most people when they start back and they’re passive with the hands they are moving all over the place the head’s moving you don’t need to move around so much and from all the testing that we’ve done when tour players take the club back their hands in the butt end of the golf club are dropping down about one to two inches to start the swing and that’s because of this concentration of what we call palm pressure away from our body against the handle okay imagine if there was like a string on the butt end of the golf club attached to your middle of your body here as you went back you want that tauntness to really stay there you don’t want to lose that tauntness so for those people I want you to imagine that there’s a nail sticking out of the inside part of the golf ball okay so if we’re looking at from this down the line perspective here and this is our hammer okay and the compact club kind of feels like a hammer it’s pretty heavy if you’re passive with your hands you’re not really creating a consistent pivot point and that consistent lever to where you can feel confident that you’re going to be able to drive the hammer into the nail consistently every time and that’s something that you have to do if you want to be good at golf you have to create a consistent pivot point right here to where you can just drive that hammer into the nail every single time you have to push down against the handle and that’s why when you look at this molded grip right here the molded grip I don’t need to get into how your hands need to be perfectly placed against this handle we have tons of videos on that and I’ll link all those down below but just follow these molds get the mold of the lead hand here get the mold of the trail hand here push down with the palms and then you’re good to go so that’s the number one thing that Scotty Shuffler is doing now from there as he pushes down with his palms his fingers are going to begin to pivot around that palm pressure which is why if I draw a circle around his hands and a circle around the golf club as he takes the club back his hands are not going to move outside of that circle but his club head is going to move about a foot to a foot and a half okay and that is really the key to everything because now he’s got this consistent pivot point to where it’s a nice lever of the club head around the butt end of the golf club and around that handle to where now it’s just a lot easier to get down and hit that nail there’s a reason why during the PGA when everybody was saying “Oh Scotty has such great control of his golf ball.” Of course he does because he has a consistent pivot point by number one pushing down with his palms and number two getting the fingers pivoting around that palm pressure so now from there once he’s got that the hands haven’t moved yet the club head’s in a perfect spot to where now it’s pivoting around the handle now he just stretches that away and that’s the third piece of all of this when you do that because of the around action you’re actually creating the momentum of the club working around the body which is what we call in the golf swing depth and feeling like your hands are going from toe line to the heel line now we’re going to be in a great spot to as we’re coming into the golf ball hit down on the inside part of that ball hammer that nail and get that club releasing right down the target line so good news for you everything you do pushing setting the fingers back with the around feeling and then the away is going to create these nice movements of shoulder turn hip turn tilt but you don’t have to worry so much about what the body’s doing it’s the effect the claws are the cause okay remember everything has to be focused back to the main objective the main objective is hitting down on the inside part of that golf ball hammering that nail and you won’t be able to hammer that nail if you don’t have a consistent down around and away and that is really the genesis of why Scotty Shuffler is one of the best ball strikers we’ve ever seen and if you want to become a better ball striker get more distance in your golf swing you have to stop focusing on your body first focus on the club first that’s why we developed the compact club that’s why we developed the claw ball because we wanted people to understand if they just train the hands and arms independent from the body then the club will do what it’s supposed to do you don’t have to worry about all these body positions being perfect just push down set the fingers back of the palms get your hands to your heels and then hit down on the inside part of that golf ball and just get that consistent every single time you’ll get you’ll get a nice consistent draw every single time i mean here I am using the RSG Pro tell me that’s not what you’d love to see just a nice consistent push draw i know this is like a public service announcement and I feel like I’m like begging you but I am begging you you’re make I’ve seen way too many people i’ve done over 20,000 golf lessons i’ve seen everything that you can see in the golf swing and the most common fault I see is people coming to me with passive hands a bad grip and just no understanding of what the hands are doing in the golf swing and there’s no content out there on perfect understanding of this hand to club relationship and that’s why I’m going to keep creating content i really appreciate everybody’s continued support i really want to continue to build out this community thank you for joining the claw crew if you subscribe and you decide to join the ecosystem and really just get a better understanding of why the golf ball is doing what it’s doing remember I’m just the messenger for the golf ball thanks for watching this video i’m really excited to continue to keep shooting content for you guys um just get a better understanding of this palm pressure go grab a compact club go grab one of these get a better understanding of how your hands were pushing away from our body we can do this sitting down now once we’ve done all this training and I’ve got a bunch of training videos for the compact club just go bend forward and do your same hand and arm movements the club will go where it needs to go and the ball will go where it needs to go so control your hands control your golf ball golf becomes a lot easier thanks guys i’ll see you in the next one [Music]

  1. its funny, there are so many videos on about how that first move with the hands that Scotty does, is a swing killer. 'You should only move your big muscles they say". I get that average golfer gets 'inside' to quickly often but trying a passive take away seems like a bad band-aid.

  2. You know , Johnny Miller did this , watch films of his swing , Lanny Watkins said : “ Miller knows where is club face is at every point in his swing “ ! When you want to do the best , do what the best do ! John ps. Did you ever find Joe Norwood’s “ Golf O-Metrics “ book ?

  3. The mystery of golf is that it is a game of "feel" that has to be built from the ground up, whereby you grasp some concepts but your body lacks the feel because you haven't gone through the process of discovery. Whenever you bypass the process of discovery you create bottlenecks in your game which leads to chaos.

Scottie knows his "feel" because it is natural to him. It's like connecting dots, if you skip a few dots your game will run into a wall and you won't know how to fix it and ultimately you're going to try something new that ruins a foundation that you didn't discover or gained insight on.

  4. Great stuff, must have been exciting when Scottie discussed his swing with you. Great to learn from the best. That’s what happened right?

  5. Yikes, Id rather go the Saguto way tbh with shoulders focus. Much more stable for amateurs if you dont have time to play 8hours a day like professionals.

  6. your left hand and grip is in such a different position than scottie's. Yours is down and on your left nad, and his is on his upper, inside left thigh. Left hand weak with scottie, strong with you…. you must explain the differences to understand this idea of pushing into the grip…. pandora's box opening otherwise.

  7. Question. In your videos you talk about the pointer fingers a lot. Not sure why but I think of thumbs instead. Accomplishes the same right? I also think of this on pitching around the green. Don’t recall any short game stuff from you. Thank you.

  8. If you look at your left hand it is way stronger than Scotties. I like your video but imho it would be good advice to explain that because in most people that strong left hand will cause exrtreme trouble.

  9. Really like your content. I would love to see a video blending it/ relating it with some other important backswing mechanics such as the arm swing illusion.

  10. It’s funny. Everyone now thinks that Scottie has the perfect swing. The amount of confusion caused by golf coaches, on purpose, is criminal.
