DAVENPORT, Iowa (WKRC) – A man allegedly kept his grandfather captive in his basement, beat him with golf clubs, and sprayed wasp repellent into his open wounds.

According to information from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office obtained by Law&Crime, officers were dispatched at around 1:45 p.m. on Monday to a residence for a report of a domestic disturbance.

Shortly after arriving, officers reportedly entered the home’s basement and found a 71-year-old man suffering from multiple cuts and lacerations to his head and body, as well as signs of blunt force trauma. The victim allegedly told officers he had been attacked by his grandson, identified as 38-year-old Joshua Ragan. Ragan allegedly hit the victim on the back of the head, pushed him over, and beat his head and body with gold clubs.

Additionally, Ragan allegedly “sprayed wasp spray into the victim’s wounds while he was injured on the floor of the basement, telling the victim he was going to kill him and threatening to [electrocute] him,” according to an affidavit obtained by local outlet KLJB. Police said they suspected Ragan also grabbed three guns from within the home and disabled his grandfather’s phone.

Ragan was reportedly found inside the home as well, and admitted to the assault after being read his Miranda Rights. He was arrested and charged with assault while participating in a felony, three counts of possessing a firearm as a felon, felony willful injury, assault with intent, false imprisonment, and older individual assault.
