DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC/Gray News) – A man was arrested after allegedly beating his grandfather with golf clubs and spraying wasp killer into his wounds.
Joshua Ragan, 38, faces several charges, including assault causing serious injury and false imprisonment.
According to police, officers arrived at a home on Covington Drive in Davenport, Iowa, on Monday afternoon for a domestic disturbance.
Officers found a 71-year-old man, identified as Ragan’s grandfather, in the basement of the home with blunt force trauma to the head and cuts to his head and body.
The man was taken to a hospital. He had facial injuries, a broken wrist, rib injuries and needed stitches in his head.
According to police, the man told officers that Ragan had punched him in the back of the head and pushed him, causing him to fall. Ragan then hit the man multiple times in the head and body with golf clubs.
Authorities said Ragan then sprayed wasp killer into his grandfather’s wounds while he was injured on the basement floor. Ragan allegedly told his grandfather that he was going to kill and electrocute him.
Police said the grandfather saw Ragan picking up three guns inside the home.
Ragan also disabled his grandfather’s phone, so he was unable to call 911 for about three hours, according to police.
During an interview, Ragan admitted to authorities that he hit his grandfather with golf clubs and sprayed his wounds with wasp spray, police said.
