Wyndham Clark speaks to the media following his last round at The Open Championship

Halo. Yeah, sorry. Pretty impressive round, I guess, finish of the week. Uh, what do you I guess how do you leave with your thoughts about how it went throughout Thursday to Sunday? Yeah, I mean I played including last week I played what is that six really good rounds. I just had two kind of sour ones. Uh but at the end of the day I you know I played 16 under on the last three days. um you know, excluding that first round, maybe we’d have a chance to to win this thing. But really pleased. I puted amazing. I hit a lot of great shots. Um felt like I was in a great pl great place. And so, yeah, I’m super pleased. Anything else? That’s it. Uh I don’t think so. I There’s a lot of people in here probably curious about just the finality of this thing with Oakmont, the reports that came out this week about maybe what they have communicated to you. I know you want to move past it, but uh I guess just where does it sort of sit with their expectations of you or maybe what if anything needs to be done or if nothing needs to be done? Yeah. So, you know, obviously I feel terrible with what happened and um you know, I’m doing anything I can to try to remedy the situation. Um we’re trying to keep it private between Oakmont, myself, and USGA. So, I’m just happy we have a pathway moving forward. And I’m, like you said, hoping we can get past this and and move on and and hope there’s no, you know, ill will towards me and and Oakmont. And um so, like you said, I’m just trying to get past it and um you know, I want the best for Oakmont, the USGA, and myself. And like I said, I’m I’m very sorry for what I did and feel terrible and hopefully in a few months we’re past this and you know, it’s something of the past. Do you find it strange then or or odd that the letter that they sent to members emerged publicly because that’s not very private. Yeah, I was uh we were hoping it was going to be private. Um I’ll just leave it at that. So looking into your future RER Cup, I mean after this performance this week, what what are your thoughts and and your expectations? You know, I I haven’t had a good year to be honest. Um, you know, I would have loved to make a few more putts to try to get a second place because then maybe I had a better chance. But you never know. My game really fits uh Beth Paige Black, long hitter. And I feel like I’m starting to play really good golf these last four or five weeks. I’ve really played two or three good rounds. I just haven’t put four together. And these last two weeks, I kind of did. So, who knows? I I still have a few more weeks in the playoffs. You never know. I could uh try to get a captain’s pick. And but I I’d love to be on Team USA. So hopefully um hopefully I play good some good golf coming up. What happened at Oakmont and previously Qu Hollow? Is it at least created a perception that you have you know temper issues. Is that unfair? Do do you feel as if that is a problem? Uh I mean I’ve had them in the past. You know I’ve been pretty open about uh you know my mental shift and change to get better. And I did that in 23 and 24 and you know and then having a tough year and all the expectations and just frustration all coming together and I did two stu stupid things. But one thing that it did do is kind of wake me up and get me back into the person I know I am and the person I want to be and and you know I I hope those things don’t reflect because I don’t think they reflect on who I am and you know going forward that stuff’s not going to happen again. People also maybe need to understand, we don’t understand how difficult it is for you guys in this environment. Like it is litally tough, right? Yeah. I mean, I’m not going to, you know, justify what I did in those two things. But yes, it is very demanding. It’s a individual sport. Everyone’s always watching you and it’s always on you. So, yeah, sometimes it gets the best of you and you know, all of us have had moments that we’re not proud of and those two I’m definitely not proud of. So, it is difficult. I mean, as it stands right now, do you expect to be able to play at Oakland again in the future? Expect to be able to go play at Oakland again in the future? I don’t know. I that’s up to them. Um, yeah, that’s up to them. I I really don’t know. It’s um I would hope so. It’s a fantastic fantastic course in place. Um but that’s up to them. And you know, I did something awful and I’m, you know, really sorry for it. And hopefully they have it in their heart to forgive me and maybe in the future I’ll be able to play there. what they outlined. Did that seem reasonable that you could sort of tick off, you know, uh, with with the sort of charity, charitable contribution, things like that. Did that seem reasonable to you? Yeah, I mean, we we reached out and we wanted to do that. I mean, obviously it’s a no-brainer to pay for the damages that was a given and um, you know, and then obviously all the apologies and then to yeah, I want to give back to the community because I I hurt a great place in Pittsburgh. So yeah, I wanted to do anything I can to show them that what happened there was not a reflection of who I am and won’t happen again, but I want to show them who I really am with the apology and the things I’m going to do. You’ll be exempt in 2033 when it’s back at 8 month. Are you expecting to be in the field? No idea. That’s uh that’s up to them. I hope so. Good. Okay. Thanks, guys. Thank you. He’s G.

  1. Forgive and forget. All you drama Karen’s on here act like you never lost your temper.

  2. The way they are talking ,you would think he'd run over a small child. He made a mistake, let it go golf press.

  3. I hope Oakmont bans him from ever playing there again..his apologies are not sincere. PGA do the right thing..oh yeah ban his ass from Ryder cup also.

  4. How can a course ban a player when they qualify to play at the course? Seems weak on the PGA tour to not step in and fix this. Hes a US open champion. And the damage couldnt have been much.

  5. Davis Love III got angry at Arnies place and wacked a sprinkler head with his club , broke it and flooded a green .
Arnie just put a bill for the sprinkler in Davis’s locker and that was the end of it .
Social media has turned the world into a real shit show
    I hate it

  6. If he was an ordinary member of the community, he'd be banned and prosecuted. Treat this entitled glib sleazeball in exactly the same way

  7. Did he pay Oakmont to make all the repairs? And apologize to the Oakmont members? He needs to understand humility and find a coach that will help him express regret in a more sincere way.

  8. The sheer lack of authenticity in his expression and apology is insulting to my intelligence, trying to keep it all private is his attempt to sweep the entire thing under the carpet and move on. I really don't feel like he really 'gets it', his behavior at Oakmont was a disgrace and he should receive a lifetime ban from the club and at least a 6 month suspension from the tour. Period.

  9. Well what more can he do? He has apologised, he'll pay for the damage and do some golf charity stuff, golf doesn't seem to have the code violation stuff that Tennis does so swearing, club throwing and spitting (why do they do that last one it's like they have been dragged up not brought up) goes unpunished and clearly they have no official sanction for smashing up the place either, perhaps they should draw up a code of conduct.

  10. gotta luv this guy, he is one of the few on tour that personifies what a progolfer SHOULD be like, single careerdriven unapologetic brash and likely seen at the bar buying the rounds makin noise different girl every city, yknow like tiger did, and no babygrabs during win celebration…

  11. Wyndham Clark has a problem controlling his emotions, he has anger issues that he hasn't dealt with. Why would he expect his childless actions to remain private..

  12. OMG….DESTROYED 2 lockers….Destroyed LOL!!!! PGA is such a pretentious league…get over yourselves…LETS GO LIV!!!
