Friday evening in downtown Minneapolis Twins looking for some wins in front of their home crowd as they kick off the six game home stand starting with the Washington Nationals making a six start. One and two on the year will be right in Matthew CJ. Abrams will lead off. He’ll be at shortstop swinging a foul hung on to by Jeffers. So a breaking ball and he strikes out Abrams. So one down and here comes James Wood who really hit, taken for a called strike. Three Wood is down on strike. Matthews with a fastball at 99 MPH to freeze him and they are two away for Luis Garc-a at the strike out the side 2 to 2, poked in the ground left side. It’s Royce Lewis with a good throw and a good start for Matthew strikes out two bottom of the first inning and Mackenzie Gore is ready to go to work and Byron Buxton the two time all star center fielder, the leadoff against score making his 21st start. We mentioned 493.59 R A Byron Buxton ready to stand at 2 88 14 doubles and two triples 23 home runs, 58 batted in there. It is good changeup down and away and a strike out of Buxton begins Mackenzie’s night Jeffers is aboard that will bring up the switch inning Willie Castro fastball right in their strike three called just a little in off the center of the plate and Gore has his second strikeout and Correa will take his base Jeffers to second and Royce Lewis who we heard from in our pregame lineup guard will have an opportunity to continue his hot streak as he’s now moved up into the lineup right back on it a few steps. And Mackenzie go throw 23 pitches to get through a scoreless first and traveled. Bell is retired and Lowe will be the one out great slider there just vanishing down it inside Nathaniel Lowe strikes out third strike out for Ze that’s five up and five down. So two way for Brady House rookie. This is a tapper and this is going to be picking it up, he’ll throw and he got him, Matthews with a great play 123 innings more for ball. Four back to back walks here to start the bottom of the second and Gore has walked three in an inning plus now matt Walner hit at two and seven in 61 games and he hits one out to left right at James Wood for the first out. Nice job Brooks Lee has been fighting it at the plate for his last 14 2 for his last 27. Here we go. There’s the ground ball to short Abrams, a double clutch. Garcia turns it 643 go the to get them out of the second innings. Castro will be, here’s the 12 swing and a miss, he got him on a change up. So Gore is leaning heavily on his change up tonight. A pitch. He’s not used as much in recent starts. There’s his 1st 123 inning score as we go to the fourth inning with Matthews facing CJ Abrams, James Wood and Luis Garc-a and there’s strike 398 for Matthew. Second time, he has struck out Abrams and the fourth strikeout for ze so two down for the garcia Junior two and two on garcia Garcia crushes one to deep right center back is Buxton looking up, it’s off the top of the wall. That ball was hammered, it stayed in the yard and the Nats first hit is a two out double for garcia here in the fourth. See down the stretch for the first time is josh Bell slices one to left racing over Harrison. Bader no cap across the line and Bader gets there right before that short side wall in foul territory. The Nats get their first base runner and hits later. The inning is over. We mentioned Matthews he is throwing the ball very well tonight and he has his best average four seam fastball velocity yet and he set career highs in his last outing in Denver. He’s been far better so far tonight and there’s 398 right down the middle and the fifth strikeout for Matthew second time he has struck out Tohan low tonight. One way here in the top of the fifth inning, brings up Brady House. He struck him out swinging on a slider. Six strikeouts for Mathews. No one to get to that one. A solid single left for Lyle. The national second hit as many innings that will bring up Riley Adams bounce to third his first time up and that’s popped up. Should be playable. Get the hang time on it. Jeffers out in front. Now behind home plate here comes Ty France. He’ll call him off and catch it right in front of home plate. One hit, one runner left on the bottom of the fifth, scoreless. Fifth walk issued by Mackenzie Gore. That is a season high for him and here’s the number nine hitter, here’s Brooks Lee bounces away and Walder on his way to second base. Adam throws not in time so it will be a wild pitch. Got a guy in scoring position and there’s ball four not even close that one to the backstop and Walder will take third, another walk, six walks in the game and the twins have 1st and 3rd 1 out and let’s see if Buckton can do some damage here line to left field but right at James Wood, he’ll make the catch Walner will tag wood fire and it’s not in time hit on the screws by Buxton 112 off the bat by wood, but deep enough to score Walner and the twins have a 1 to 0 lead. It’s a one run game dangerous hitter up right now and James Wood has struck out six tonight , make it 798 right down the middle and Zey Matthews outstanding six scoreless innings. He has struck out seven handshake for Rocco ball Delhi for Zey Matthews his night likely over. He was fantastic. Paul Henry bottom of the sixth. It is one in favor of Minnesota. First pitch swinging goes the other way. Nice start here for the Carlos Correa with one out, one on. Here’s Royce Lewis Hammer to left field on a line that’s down for a base hit that’s going to find the wall care at third base. Moore solid contact from Royce Lewis and there is the sixth inning double and the twins have 2nd and 3rd only one out. Now, Ty France, the hitter he has walked and flied to right and hit him by pitch will load the bases. Cole Henry got one of them, the bases loaded here with two outs in the sixth inning and things over to Connor Pilkington third appearance as a national first two. Franny were outstanding. Now he faces Matt Walner left on left with the bases loaded, two down twins leading one in the sixth well out to right, but is there Connor Pilkington will leave them loaded in the sixth twins one Washington. Nothing on to the eighth inning. And Griffin Jax takes over eighth inning, Denard here in a one run game. So it will be House Lyle and Adams one down on a sweeper. So Jacks fell behind, comes back to strike out. House Lyle pulls one fair down the line deep into the corner. It gets past Castro. Lyle’s going to think about three but will slam on the brakes correctly. A one out double for Dale and Lyle who’s two for three tonight. Here’s the nationals best hitter with runners in scoring position this season. Lyle takes off no throw from Jeffers and Dale has his fourth big league stolen bases comes set with the 32. Young takes it low. The number nine man reaches and they’re at the corners now with two down. The nationals have some speed on here. Lyle, the tying run at third and the go ahead run and Jacob Young at first base and now CJ Abrams is coming up dangerous shortstop to right shallow and Castro is there. He’s got it and the inning is over Washington threatens but does not score strand two and the twins maintained the lead. Last time the twins won a 1 to 0 game was July 1st 2023 at Baltimore. Juan Durant looking to make that happen here tonight. 1 to 0. Twins. Ninth inning belongs to the big man. Durant will be coming in the game trying to get his 16th save Josh Bell. Another dangerous hitter. Zero for three. We ground ball again, Lewis on the charge. He has it and he throws him out of the Twins after an off day are back in the win column tonight. Their first one nothing win nearly two years knocking off the nationals one, nothing on a Byron buck and sack fly.
