It’s July 22nd and boy does it
feel like football. 26 teams
reporting to training camp around the NFL. Justin Fields in
the building Russell Wilson, Joe
Burrow, Brock Purdy is in the house. Geno Smith and so many
more. We got a lot of news to
get to, so let’s get to it right now. Welcome inside with the
insiders alongside Ian Rapoport,
Judy Battista and Mike Garafolo. I am Tom Pelissero. 44 days out
now from the 2025 season opener.
Just nine days away from the Hall of Fame game. That’s how
close you are to watching live
football on TV or in person. We will get to as many of those 26
teams reporting to training camp
as we possibly can over the next 60 minutes, but let’s start with
one team that hit the practice
field for the first time today. That is the Dallas Cowboys in
their usual training camp home
of Oxnard, California. A little bit of a new look. Brian
Schottenheimer, the visors on
backward. Good way to make sure that your neck does not end up
getting burnt. That is the least
of his concerns. A lot of other moving parts for the Cowboys.
And for more on that, let’s head
out to Oxnard right now with our Jane Slater. Jane, the story on
Monday was Jerry Jones saying a
lot of things, which Jerry tends to do. The Monday training camp
week. This time, this day you
had a couple of players getting a chance to respond. What did
you learn? Yeah, Jerry Jones had
a lot to say about both Micah Parsons and Trayvon digs, both
here for day one of practice,
albeit in different roles. Let’s start with digs. He starts the
camp off rather on the PUP list.
Remember, he sustained yet another injury to that left knee
last season and he is rehabbing
it. As for Parsons, he wants that contract extension. But
Brian Schottenheimer as head
coach says he will do quote different versions of
participation. I thought it
important as they were coming off the field today to get, in
their own words, where things
stand with the owner and the front office. Because it’s not
like I’m not putting the work
in. I’m doing everything I’m supposed to do. Of course they
do a great job here. But, you
know, I just thought it was for my best interest to, you know,
go somewhere else to rehab for
my off season. But it’s unfortunate, you know, but at
the end of the day, hopefully
I’ll make it back. Where are you in your rehab process? I feel
real good. I’m doing everything
I’m supposed to do. I feel real good. I’m ahead of schedule. So,
yeah, I feel good. Micah. Good
to see you out here. Why was it a choice for you to be? I would
are you a Holden at this point,
or are you just being mindful of your body? Just being mindful.
Obviously. Just want to get the
body going the right way. The way I wanted to. But you know,
obviously with De La gone. Like
I said, I just felt like it was my turn, my turn to lead. And
it’s hard to do that from the
crib. So I want to be here with the guys, show them that I care.
I want to be here, win
championships. So that’s why I’m here. You know, I know you and
Jerry have a pretty close
relationship, and I know you have respect for each other, but
stuff gets said in the media.
Have you had a conversation with him after yesterday’s presser?
No, but I’m a I’m going to talk
to him. You know, I just thought as a whole, like, you know,
everyone’s situation is
different. You know what I mean? At the end of the day, like, I’m
here for my teammates. You know,
I’m not here to please another grown man. I’m here for them.
You know? I want to be here with
Trey, watching rehab. Watch him get on the field, watch his
growth. I want to be here
battling with Terrence Steele. Like I’m here for these guys.
I’m not here for him. You know,
so I think, you know, at the end of the day, he’s on the field
with us. You know, we’re on the
field playing the games and things like that. So I’m going
to just control my teammates,
keep boosting it. And you know we’re just going to keep playing
together. Last question for you
guys. Energy is a word we’re using a lot out here. Do you
guys feel it with this coaching
staff. Definitely. It’s a lot of energy. I love the atmosphere.
Everyone’s competing. Everyone’s
happy. Everyone’s in a good mood, everyone’s smiling, and
we’re ready to get this show on
the road. And you want to be here? Of course. Of course I do.
Yeah. I need my stuff in here,
man. I need I’m whatever he on. If they don’t want me here, then
they don’t want me here. I’ll go
about my business. I understand the nature of the business. Like
I said, as long as I’m here and
under contract, I’m gonna do what I have to do to perform at
the highest level. But if this
is the end, this is the end. You know, there’s the same way the
Jones, Jerry Jones and Stephen
Jones and other Jerry Jones take care of their family the same
way. I need to take care of my
family, you know? I mean, I got my own three kids of my own, so
we all need to take care of our
own family at the end of the day. And as we wait, it’s our
understanding, according to
Micah, that his agent has reached out to Jerry Jones. He’s
just waiting for a call back.
Cowboys. Eagles 44 days away, September 4th in Philadelphia.
Should, I repeat, should have
answers on some of these items before we get there. Jane, thank
you very much. More from you a
little bit later on in the show. Cowboys not only have to hunt
down the Eagles, they got to
come after the commanders, one of the surprise teams in 2024
NFC Championship Game
appearance. Looking to build on that would certainly help if
spotted within this montage was
Terry McLaurin wants a new contract. Here’s what GM Adam
Peters had to say about his top
wide receiver. Yeah, without a doubt. I think everybody in this
building values Terry very much.
And we knew that coming in. And we knew that even more after
spending a year with him in
terms of where we’re at, we’ve had, you know, conversations
recently and we’ll look to have
some more conversations and we’re going to do everything we
can in order to get a deal done.
So the commanders obviously have known Ian about this situation
for quite some time here. If
you’re Terry McLaurin, you’re saying the deal I did several
years ago now has been outpaced
by the market. I’ve been healthy. I’ve been productive.
Give me my money. How does this
play out from here at a time that Terry McLaurin, at least at
the start off camp here, is
staying away? Well, first the news part. Terry McLaurin was
not present with his teammates
during today’s conditioning test, setting the stage for
unless there is some sort of
contractual breakthrough over the next 24 hours, a holdout and
holdouts have been increasingly
rare over the last several years. Hold ins where a player
deals with a minor injury while
not practicing, waiting for his deal to get done. That’s been
more commonplace, but a true
holdout where a player is subject to fines. Those have
been rare, but that is how Terry
McLaurin is showing these commanders that he is not happy,
that he does not feel good about
where things are. And not only does he want a new deal, but he
wants a lot of money. And you’re
right, the three year, $68 million deal that has been
making almost $20 million this
year has been outpaced. My understanding is he wants more
than 30. It’s not a disagreement
over whether he deserves more money. It’s a disagreement over
how much. And certainly they are
not there yet. So Terry McLaurin staying away and there are still
buttons to turn McLaurin could
push. You could always request a trade. You could show up and try
to make people uncomfortable.
Brandon Aiyuk tried all those things with the 40 niners last
fall, and ultimately ended up
staying in San Francisco. He also suffered a significant
injury, which was kind of the
story of Brock Purdy. Season no Christian McCaffrey, no wide
receivers. It was a tough year
all around for the 40 Niners. Here we are, Mike a year later.
And while there’s not a contract
squabble for San Francisco, there’s real questions again
about who Purdy is going to be
throwing to. Yeah it was an ACL, MCL injury for Brandon Aiyuk and
John Lynch today saying that
he’s nowhere close to having a concrete timeline for his
return. I think a lot of folks
looked at that and said, whoa, he’s that far away. And Lynch
said, no. We are encouraged by
his progress, but my understanding is now that he’s
in the building now, they’re
going to see him every day at training camp. How he is
rehabbing, then they’ll
understand kind of sort of where he is at this point. But it is
looking at this point like you
can’t rule out week one for Brandon Aiyuk, but it would be
an uphill battle for him to get
to that point, because if you don’t have that concrete
timeline, there’s really no ramp
up period to get himself into game shape. So it seems like the
40 Niners are going to begin the
season without Aiyuk. But again, there is some good signs here
with regard to his rehab and his
recovery and the possibility of him being back at least early in
the season. If he starts on the
PUP list, he’ll be ineligible for the first four weeks. The
good news Ricky Pearsall had
hamstring injury beginning on PUP, but the hope is that he is
back to action relatively soon.
Kyle Shanahan once again beginning training camp,
wondering who he’s drawing up,
plays to get open. Another familiar storyline in the NFC
West. Matthew Stafford once
again dealing with injury in the early portion of camp. It did
not, in fact occur when he was
rear ended by Puka Nacua, who decided to show up on a go cart
right there. Stafford, though,
is dealing with back soreness, which would seem like a minor
type of a thing here. But we
also know one thing with Stafford he’ll play through
things, but he also deals with a
lot. What do you make of Sean McVay saying today that at least
for the first five days or so of
camp, we may not see a whole lot of Matthew Stafford on the
field. Well, I thought it was
important that McVay was willing to put the five day timeline on
it. That suggested that they do
not believe this is very serious and something that is going to
carry deep into training camp.
We will see if that’s accurate. But I think at least initially,
it seems like they believe this
is a minor nuisance. Having said that, it’s a starting
quarterback, a 37 year old
starting quarterback with back soreness. So certainly at the
very least that demands
monitoring. They did get some good news, though. Running back
Kyren Williams, who is looking
for a new contract he is in the final year of his rookie deal,
is at camp and plans to
participate. He said I love this, this is what I do. So he
plans to be part of training
camp. That is the good news for the Rams. You have really high
hopes, really positive feelings
coming out of an offseason in which they added Davante Adams
to pair with Puka Nacua, who you
saw coming in on that go cart. They went unexpectedly far last
year and they pushed the Eagles
further than anybody did in the playoffs last season. So
certainly this is a team on an
upward trajectory, which is why Matthew Stafford’s back is going
to be something we are going to
be watching very closely. The bills also reporting today,
amidst at least some level of
uncertainty about their star running back, James Cook, who
had 21 touchdowns, including the
playoffs last season, helping out the league MVP. Josh Allen,
in a lot of ways is on hand as
the bills report to training camp here. Ian. But James Cook
still expects to get paid. He’s
about $5.3 million this year. What do you make of the timeline
of a potential James Cook
extension sometime in camp here? Well, first of all, this is the
same James Cook that went public
last year saying he wants $15 million, which would put him
close to the top of the running
back market. And what the bills did in response to that, and
something the bills were trying
to do anyway, was basically take care of every other young player
that they wanted to sign. And it
has been unbelievably productive off season for the Buffalo
Bills, right? I mean, they have
locked up Greg Rousseau and Christian Benford and I mean, on
and on, defensive players who
have been really helpful to them to kind of build this, to build
this roster, just not James Cook
yet, which really does set the stage for a contract negotiation
that either should go down to
the wire toward the start of the season, or put him on path to
either hit free agency next year
or get the franchise tag. There’s going to be a lot of
contractual talks surrounding
James Cook, but most importantly on the field, as he has emerged
as an absolutely essential
weapon for the Buffalo Bills. Jonathan Taylor went through a
similar situation with the Colts
a couple of years ago here, one of the top backs in the NFL. But
who exactly is going to be the
quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts? They have Daniel Jones,
of course, who they signed in
free agency. Former Giants starter finished up last season
with the Vikings. They’ve also
got Anthony Richardson, who once again dealt with an injury to
his throwing shoulder back in
the spring. But it sounds like GM Chris Ballard is optimistic
about Richardson’s chances for
competing in camp. All right, so Anthony is good to go. He’s been
throwing for about three weeks
now. He’s really upped his volume. First couple of weeks
will probably limit some volume,
but no real restrictions other than volume restrictions. And
that’s something we’ll keep. You
know, we have a four day stretch where we’re practicing four days
in a row. So this first week you
could see in day 2 or 3 a little bit of volume. We reduced his
volume. But other than that good
to go. Was not that long ago, Mike, that Anthony Richardson
was the number four overall pick
in the NFL draft at this point, just based on availability
alone, you’d have to say the
edge of this goes to Daniel Jones in that competition. What
say you, Daniel Jones got that
advantage there, Tom, in the spring, the late spring when the
Colts shut down shut down
Anthony Richardson for mini camp. So that gave Jones a
chance to make a final first
impression there during the spring. And it seems like it was
a good one. I know that there’s
a lot of optimism when it comes to Daniel Jones, his ability to
reset now with the Indianapolis
Colts, things did not end very well with the Giants and that
stint with the Vikings, that was
kind of weird. He never really saw the field there. So now he’s
got a clearer path to a to a
starting job. He’s got to edge out Anthony Richardson from an
availability standpoint. You’re
right. The edge goes to Jones because at least there is going
to be a little bit of a of a
restriction or at least a watch on Richardson to start training
camp. But if he’s healthy he’s
got to show one. The wow plays. We know they’re there. We’ve
seen them. Remember last week or
last year. Excuse me in week one the wow play that he made early
on. But it’s got to be more from
a consistency standpoint because you know you’re going to get
more consistency from Jones when
it comes to this battle. And the wild plays have often turned
into owl plays so far. For
Anthony Richardson, a player who certainly has, as you said,
Mike, all the physical ability
but has not yet been able to stay healthy enough to actually
be able to mount those reps. Joe
Burrow has dealt with his fair share of training camp injuries
in the past as well, but fully
healthy, looking good in whatever he’s wearing right
there. His guy knows better than
I do a little tie dye. How about that from Joe Burrow? He’s on
hand in Cincinnati. Not there.
Not even in the state. Trey Hendrickson, who posted this
very early this morning amidst
ongoing contract talks between the Bengals and Hendrickson, is
due $16 million this season.
He’s made clear he’s not going to play for that. The Bengals
have offered him a raise.
They’ve offered him an extension, but the structure is
not there and there’s really no
at this point end in sight. Yeah, that was maybe a bit of a
reality check today after some
optimism from owner Mike Brown yesterday that the deal would
get done with Trey Hendrickson,
maybe not quite so fast. And that’s certainly a down note for
a team that has focused the
entire offseason on figuring out how to get out to faster starts.
They paid a lot of money to keep
most of their offense intact. They didn’t do much for the
defense. They changed defensive
coordinators, and now they’ve got the Trey Hendrickson and
Shemar Stewart contract
situations still out there hanging over them. The good news
for them Joe Burrow comes into
training camp healthy for the first time in a long time. That
is a good first step toward
getting off to a fast start, but certainly getting these contract
situations squared away, and
they hope getting both guys into camp would certainly go a long
way toward a faster start. We’ve
got tons more to come on this show. 20 other teams we haven’t
even mentioned yet also reported
to training camp earlier today, including the Dolphins. Tyreek
Hill says he’s healthy. He’s got
some new perspective. He’s got thoughts on one of our reporters
physiques. You do not want to
miss it. More next on the insiders. A car that doesn’t
truly transport you is a car
that stops short of leave the car, always stop.
Look, lock. The Dolphins won a
26 teams to report to training camps around the NFL today.
Which means, you guessed it, a
lot of slow motion entry shots for Tua Tagovailoa and others.
Some new faces and old faces in
Miami, where Tyreek Hill once again is back. Football is all
about winning. Winning games.
You know, being there for your team in those big moments. You
know those crucial downs like
third down and just being available. Man. For my team man
2000 I feel like that’s just a
personal goal that I would like for myself, but I feel like the
even bigger goal for myself and
then also for this team is just to win games, you know, win
playoff games and, you know,
continue to build from there. I expect to bring playmaking
ability. There’s a lot of guys
on this team that can do amazing things with the ball. I’m
excited to just be a part of
that group. I feel like everything you probably
experience, except probably
winning the Super Bowl, is something that I’ve gone
through, whether it’s been
drafted, late core special teams guy suspended from the league,
practice squad, starter, Pro
Bowler, traded a couple times. Like there are guys that are
going through situations and
going through things that may need somebody to lean on and
talk to. I feel like I could be
that as well. But most importantly, just somebody that
does their job at a high level.
Let’s bring in our Cameron Wolfe, who is down there at
Dolphins training camp earlier
today. Welcome back to the insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian
Rapoport. Cam let’s start with
Tyreek who had a lot going on off the field on the field
medically and otherwise. Last
year. You hear him talking there about big goals like 2000 yards
being a better leader knowing
him as well as you do. What do you make of what he’s saying and
what we can expect to see in
2025? Yeah. Tyreek Hill’s message all offseason has been
one of accountability. He knows
how bad he was last year with asking. I’m out with saying you
know leaving the game in the
fourth quarter without coming back in. And so he’s showing a
level of accountability of I’m
going to be different. And he he told us a story in the press
conference today. He said he
talked to his dad and said, I wonder what it looked like on
the field if I just focused on
football and family, he said. I haven’t done that. I haven’t
given the best version of Tyreek
Hill my entire career. I plan to do that. He’s down to 183
pounds, 14 pounds from when he
first got down here to Miami, he said. He’s been training. He
said his focus points are being
on time, which was a problem last year. Being present, being
available, showing the fullness
of his leadership vocally. And as far as his conditioning after
practice, and he really is
getting a little bit motivation from his kids. He said. One of
his kids, he FaceTimed with him
last night, and his mom told him that he told his friend that his
dad was not Tyreek Hill, his dad
was Justin Jefferson because he’s a big Justin Jefferson fan.
So he said that gives me extra
motivation. My own son says I’m Justin Jefferson’s dad. He said,
well, tell Justin Jefferson to
take you to Disneyland then if he’s your dad. So even Tyreek
Hill has people his sons wanting
to be someone else. I mean, if Tyreek Hill and Justin Jefferson
going to go to Disneyland, I
think we’re going to need some cameras there to witness this.
Anyway. Let’s get on to Darren
Waller who we just heard from just a couple minutes ago.
Obviously, one of the more
intriguing stories for the Miami Dolphins comes out of retirement
to land in South Florida. What
do we expect from Waller in his return to the NFL? Yeah, the
Dolphins are taking a flier on
Darren Waller here. He retired from football. He told us today
that he would content until
retirement. He said he had decided that football wasn’t
something at that time that he
wanted to pursue. He didn’t have that joy, that spark, he said
over the last few months, he’s
thought about it. He got some of that joy back and he said he’s
committed. And I asked him about
that point because, you know, when he left the game, he said
he didn’t have that commitment.
He said he knows this is a commitment to February. He
expects to make a huge impact on
the field. He said. What a way for me to try to end out my
final chapter of my career the
way I want it to be. The Dolphins didn’t invest a lot of
money in this tight end, and so
really, this is a situation where if they can get him to do
a fraction of production, that
Jonnu Smith, who they traded away to Pittsburgh last year,
would be able to get some of
those reps that Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle don’t have across
the middle of the field. They’d
be very happy. One key thing for Darren Waller. He reunites with
Frank Smith who was his guy with
the Raiders. He said he was a guy who helped me. When I
decided I wanted to be sober. He
asked me as a man, what do I need in my sobriety journey? And
he said, I will never forget
that. He also got rave reviews from Alec Engle, who’s a captain
and fullback on this team.
They’re excited about what he can do. Obviously, a lot of
eyeballs on what his mindset is
like, but he is saying the right things. He’ll start training
camp on PUP as they ease him
back into the work, not injury related, just a guy who hadn’t
been on the football field in a
while. But he’s ready to get to action once the season starts.
Don’t think it will be anything
long term for Darren Waller. Not a big concern there. You know
who else I’m not concerned about
is Cam Wolfe, because based on the Mirror gym selfies I’ve been
seeing of late, I got to say,
Cam’s looking like he’s in that pre-training camp shape right
there. You know the classic line
about I’m in the best shape of my life. Cam Wolfe can say that
today. In fact, he doesn’t even
have to say it. Tyreek Hill will say it for him. Cam I’ve been
watching workout videos. You
look good bro. You say you racing bro I’m trying to catch
you bro I ain’t even know you
was in here until you like asked him a question. I’m like hold
on. He big time now sitting in
the back low key. Keep doing your thing baby. So no pressure
on you right here. Cam. You know
this is a guy in Tyreek Hill who likes to likes to post his own
videos of him working out here.
Now you know he’s now you know he’s watching. Yeah. There’s an
old saying train like no one’s
watching that’s all train now like Tyreek Hill is watching I
didn’t know he was watching the
videos. I thought it was just me and my wife and my mom was
watching the videos. But
apparently Tyreek Hill is as well I do not have any plays
left. I promise you I have no
football plays left. Just gym work. That’s all I have. Oh no
we know we know Tyreek Hill the
cheetah. We are now from now on going to call you cam big cat
Wolf. How about that I like wolf
Panda and a cat right. It’s like a combination. Anyway cam thank
you very much. We will talk to
you again soon. 2025 NFL season begins with training camp
starting Saturday, July 26th
through Wednesday, August 6th. Continuing tomorrow, NFL network
is your home for wall to wall
coverage from every camp around the league. We’re live on the
field bringing you exclusive
interviews, expert analysis, breaking storylines, and your
first look at the biggest names
in new places. Don’t miss inside Training camp all day, every day
on NFL network. We will
certainly see plenty of Caleb Williams when we get to those
inside training camp shows. But
will year two be better for the Bears and Williams than year
one? We’ll break that down when
our Stacey Dales joins us from Chicago right after this on The
Insiders. Is that. Yeah, I’m
gonna ask. That is so rude. me. Chase all of it. It’s all up
for grabs now. NFL flag chase
something. All right. New today. The bears reporting for training
camp I think Caleb Williams on
draft night, if I recall correctly, made the claw a
thing. And everybody’s like the
bears have been around for 100 years. And Caleb Williams just
now making a new thing. So
there’s Cairo Santos channeling the quarterback of the present
and future that is Caleb
Williams. And here is the coach of the future now, the coach of
the president, a guy everybody
was after the last couple years, the bears landed on Ben Johnson.
As I think about our team and
where we’re going into training camp, it’s really there are a
lot of parallels there because
as a first time head coach, first year head coach, a lot of
new staff members on the
coaching staff, a lot of new faces in the locker room. We
don’t know each other
particularly well, and we’ve tried to bridge that gap over
the course of the spring. But
really the next six weeks is about us coming together. I’ve
had some up and downs in games,
myself and team wise. And so, you know, I think I think all
of, you know, all of last year
was was great for us and great for me to be able to manage, you
know, these, these next six
weeks, about six weeks. You know I think it’s going to be fun to
that’s the that’s the fun part
about it is having these up and downs and figuring out a way to
manage those and deal with them
and, you know, come back the next day or next play or, you
know, next drive, next situation
that we have and, you know, go out there and execute and, you
know, be that guy that and
teammate that, you know, they depend on and believe in for
those moments. Oh Stacey Dales,
the expectations are high surrounding this team. I know
it’s a first year coach, but a
lot of times we see first year coaches take a team to the
postseason. Perhaps the bears
will be that team. So Dales is here with us, Judy Battista and
me, Mike Garafolo heard a lot of
numbers being thrown around with Caleb Williams and the
expectations for this upcoming
season. Stacey, these guys are not shy. Whether it’s Williams
himself or Ben Johnson about
throwing out some numbers and saying these are the goals for
the production this year, right?
Absolutely. It was a great day really, at Halse Hall today.
Let’s just hope that claw can
throw some darts to the tune of 70% in terms of completion rate,
because that’s the goal. As Ben
Johnson told us, you notice the sweat on Caleb Williams brow
there. He had just come in from
outside. We’re in a heat wave. It’s going to be so hot tomorrow
as they get ready to practice
here. And they’re going to go really early every day, 830 in
the morning throughout training
camp. But when you talk about those numbers, you zero in on
the head coach and play caller
and Ben Johnson, Judy and Mike and the quarterback, Caleb
Williams. I loved Ben Johnson’s
transparency today in terms of how much time they’ve spent
together. I asked him, what does
it look like for you in terms of how you fill your quarterback’s
cup, how much you can give him?
And he said, it’s all about the time you spend with your
quarterback. And so they have
spent as much time as humanly possible over the last two
months not only getting to know
each other, but really zeroing in on how they’re going to
install this thing, what it’s
going to look like. Not to mention that he sent Caleb
Williams home with footwork and
very specifically homework. Excuse me. And that was
footwork. And that’s getting him
under center. You’re going to see a lot of play action, get
him under center and get that
ball out quickly. That footwork the left foot up versus the
right foot up under center so
that he can get that ball out. And he’s just more efficient,
better timing with his
receivers. And for Caleb Williams he was very intentional
today in terms of his goals. He
mentioned that 70% completion rate. That’s what Ben Johnson is
looking for throughout practice.
He said he knows it’s a lofty goal, but that’s what it is for
Caleb Williams. He wants the 70,
he wants to be the first quarterback in bears history.
Said this today to throw for
4000 yards in a season. It’s never been done in a single
season. We’ll see if he can do
it. The rest of the bears 28th in terms of scoring offense last
season. And by the way, Tua
Tagovailoa led the league with 73% at that completion rating.
So it is a big goal but
certainly attainable if he can click with Ben Johnson. Well
obviously there’s going to be a
huge spotlight on that offense because of all the changes and
because of Caleb and Ben
Johnson. But some of the spotlight should go to the
defense as well because they
obviously made a pretty big change there. Dennis Allen is
now shepherding that defense.
What kind of impact do we think that’s going to have Stacy.
Yeah, Judy, this is such a great
point. You raise the bears feel really good about the staff
they’ve assembled. And on the
defensive side, we’re going to talk about the play caller a
lot. But the play caller
defensively is Dennis Allen right seven I think seasons as
DC there in New Orleans
recently. And just before becoming the three year head
coach with the Saints. And you
know we had an opportunity. We know that he is going to impress
upon us a very physical defense
up front. He wants to be an attacking style. He wants to
dictate what the offense does. A
lot of man, a lot of press coverage. But, you know, we had
the chance to speak with Grady
Jarrett today. The 11 year NFL vet joined the bears this
offseason. Spent all that time
there in Atlanta facing the team that Dennis Allen came from in
the Saints in that NFC South
division. So he knows him really well. But I asked Jarrett today,
what have you learned about your
defensive play caller. What are his priorities defensively? He
rattled off a bunch of stuff
grittiness, his attention to detail, his knowledge in terms
of knowing what everybody should
be doing from the front to the back of the defense and then
being able to convey those
expectations. Very clear communicator to his players as
they’ve gotten to know him here
this offseason. And he said he hasn’t been babying us.
Nothing’s been easy. So he’s
going to be tough on these guys. But he’s known as such a great
player’s coach. This could be an
interesting fit for the former head coach, as he helps out Ben
Johnson in his first stint as
head coach with these bears. No doubt about it. He’s got that
experience that Ben Johnson can
draw upon. Johnson’s got his own ideas, certainly has his ideas
for the offense. This is an
exciting team this year, Stacy and you there in Chicago and in
the area, they’re going to get a
front row seat to. Looking forward to your coverage and
back together weekend and
throughout the NFL season. When it comes to the bears and the
rest of the NFC North as well.
Tom, another surprise retirement for the Saints on the eve of
training camp, a couple months
after Derek Carr walked away. Now Tyrann Mathieu retiring
after 12 seasons, three Pro
Bowls, a whole lot of big plays, 33 years old and leaves big
shoes to fill, he released a
statement saying in part, as I hang up my cleats, I’m filled
with gratitude as I close this
chapter of my life and officially retire from the game
that shaped me in every way, I
hope I made you proud out there. This isn’t goodbye. It’s just
the next chapter for the New
Orleans Saints. They really entered a different mode once
Derek Carr walked away. Mickey
Loomis even referenced that Ian earlier today, saying Derek Carr
retiring allowed us to clean up
some things, basically pay the bill for some choices they made
in the past. Now, once again,
you got a veteran player leaving this team. The question becomes
who’s the quarterback and what
even is the upside for this team in 2025? Yeah, certainly is
shaping up to be at least a
challenging year for the New Orleans Saints. Maybe a year
where you pay the bills and
figure it out after. But don’t tell that to the players
competing right now to be the
starting quarterback. And of course, the most interesting
here, Tyler Shuck, the second
round quarterback. Rarely do you see a quarterback taking the
second round. Usually it’s like
first round. Like fifth round. Tyler Shuck, the second rounder
certainly is going to have a
very realistic chance to be the starting quarterback for Kellen
Moore’s New Orleans Saints. Not
going to be without a battle, though. Spencer Rattler, who had
a ton of snaps last year for the
Saints, a ton of experience and flashed a bit. He is going to
have a shot. Jake Haner, who has
been the Saints backup for the last couple of years. He also
will have a shot to unseat Tyler
Shuck. Well, Jaxson Dart does not have much of a chance to
unseat Russell Wilson in
training camp. The New York Giants want Russell Wilson to be
the starter when the season
opens, but training camp is going to be a good long look at
how quickly Jaxson Dart can
develop. He is the rookie first round pick. They traded back
into the first round to get him
the question they are hoping to answer this year. Is he the guy?
How quickly can he press Russell
Wilson. Will they get Jaxson Dart onto the field at some
point this season? Training camp
is all about getting him ready. Judy, you and I will be at the
Giants on Sunday, perhaps
interviewing Russell Wilson. The request is in a couple days
later, I’ll be in Cleveland to
check out the Browns four way competition for the starting
quarterback job. I mean,
theoretically, it’s a it’s a two way competition between Flacco
and Pickett. They’re on top of
Deshaun Watson’s on the roster. But he’s not going to play for
them again. So Flacco and
Pickett with Dillon Gabriel and Sanders maybe battling for the
last roster spot. Perhaps
another one winds up on the practice squad. But a chance to
really impress the front office
and the coaching staff moving forward. We know what Flacco has
done in this offense before. We
also know that the Browns want to get back to really running
the ball effectively. The
Quinshon Judkins situation going to be an issue there. Obviously,
we’ll see how that one plays
out. But for the meantime, Joe Flacco in the driver’s seat with
Kenny Pickett nipping at his
heels. And those young guys trying to make an impression.
Training camp practice starting
for 26 more teams on Wednesday. Go to NFL.com for an expanded
list of some of the biggest
training camp battles. Not much of a battle for the Giants wide
receiver. One position Malik
Nabers has already shown enough that he can be that dude. Who’s
he going to be catching passes
from? Judy says it’s Russell Wilson. What impact does that
have on neighbors fantasy stock
for 2025? Michael F Florio will be here with some sizzling hot
takes for you right after this.
On the insiders NFL red zone is the Pro Football Hall of Fame
Enshrinement Weekend. If you see
that graphic, you know it only means one thing scalding hot
takes by that guy right there.
Michael F Florio takes that are so hot he needs to wear
sunglasses, which he’s literally
wearing sunglasses again because the takes are so hot for you.
Start right here. Take me
through it. What is your number for? Hot? Take. Malik Nabers of
the New York Giants is going to
lead the NFL in receiving yards this year. This take is as hot
as being on the buyout where
Nabors is from. Trust me, I was there this past weekend. It is
scorching, but neighbors last
year had the highest target share in the NFL and he had 1200
yards as a rookie, despite
having the ninth highest rate of uncatchable targets. And look,
no disrespect to the Giants QB
room last year, but they just simply could not get him the
ball downfield. He gets a huge
upgrade in that regard with their new quarterback room. He
is a great field stretcher. It
wasn’t his fault, but better QB play will help unlock his
ceiling this year, which I think
is not only leading the league in receiving yards, but maybe
leading all receivers in fantasy
points. So make sure to target Malik Nabers in the later half
of your first rounds. I do not
think you will regret it. You don’t need to say no offense to
Giants QB room. They cleaned it
all out anyway. Give me take number three Devonte Chen. He
will finish as the highest
scoring running back. Look, when you think of Miami you think of
beach balls and beaches. But you
should be thinking of the heat that Devon is going to bring
when he finishes as the RB one
this season. Why do I think that? Because he pretty much did
it last year, when he averaged
23 fantasy points per game with Tua, which would have made him
the RB one, he had more
receiving stats than any running back last year. The Dolphins
just abandoned the deep ball and
focused on getting Tua the ball out of his hands as quickly as
possible. He is a good receiver.
An explosive runner dominates goal line. Work everything you
want in a fantasy running back
and this is the year it all gets put together. He Outscores,
Saquon and Bijan and Gibbs and
he finishes as the highest scoring running back in fantasy
and one that you can get in the
second round. Take neighbors, take a chan. You’ll be feeling
great not going in the second
round of people. Keep hearing you talk about him like that.
Give me take number two beach
ball guy Justin Fields. He finishes as a top three fantasy
quarterback this year. Look,
ever walk through a New York City Subway station on a humid
day in August? I have. This take
is as hot as that fields. He thrives as an outside runner,
and this is an offense that
should feature plenty of that. I am expecting to see a fields
version of the tush push in New
York, and I’m expecting a lot more short and safe throws like
we saw when he was with the
Pittsburgh Steelers last year. And it was only six games. But
if you take that six games and
make it a 17 game pace, he would have scored the sixth most
fantasy points amongst
quarterbacks. And I think he could exceed that this year. I
think a career year in this new
Jets offense is coming for Justin Fields. And the best part
is you don’t got to pay a top
five, top seven QB price to get him. You could wait and get all
that production anyway. Good
stuff so far. Smoking hot so far. Give me number one Tyler
Warren. The rookie finishes as a
top five fantasy tight end. This take might be as hot as the
Colts QB camp battle, but you’re
going to hear a lot of stuff about Warren this year that he
has target competition. Not the
best quarterback room. You know who you were hearing about that
last year? Brock Bowers when he
finished as the tight end the year before was Sam Laporta. He
was the tight end one. They have
proven that in recent years. Rookie tight ends can succeed
right away. And Warren is a big
target who excels after the catch. Richardson and Jones are
both at their best statistically
when they are targeting the middle of the field, and I think
Warren will eat there. I think
he could finish as the Colts top target and as a top five tight
end in fantasy, but again, you
don’t have to pay that price. He barely goes as a top 12 tight
end, so wait and still reap the
benefits. Colston Loveland being like what did you know I was
picked first anyway Florio great
stuff as always. Don’t go anywhere. We’re going to need
you this entire season. But
thanks. Fantastic stuff. Football is back celebrating
teams across the league. Take
the field for Back Together Weekend presented by YouTube TV
with two full days of practices,
player interviews and behind the scenes access, it’s a can’t miss
NFL reunion. July 26th and 27th.
Go to NFL.com weekend for more information. You can have plenty
of Cowboys for that Back
together weekend. We got plenty of cowboys today. We had our
Cowboys superstar Jason Slater.
Cowboys practice today. She will tell you everything she knows.
Coming up next. I wanted a trip
I’d never forget. And it was save your life. Talk to your
doctor and learn more at saved
by the scan.org. Dallas Cowboys on the practice field in Oxnard,
California, for their very first
practice of the 2025 training camp, there is Brian
Schottenheimer, the new head
coach. We got to see a little bit of Dak Prescott on this day.
We know that Micah Parsons is at
training camp. We’ll see exactly what he does during training
camp as negotiations toward his
next contract continue, and posted up with the Cowboys, as
she so often is, is our very own
Jane Slater live in Oxnard? Okay, Jane, this was also George
Pickens first practice with the
Dallas Cowboys of training camp. What were your impressions?
Well, Judy, when I’m out here at
training camp, I try to sit next to people that are smarter than
me, which is why Ian and I
typically roam separate. I’m kidding. But today, I was
sitting next to Brian Broaddus
and Brad Sham. Brian brought us a former scout, Brad Sham, who
is the voice of the Dallas
Cowboys. Been covering these camps since 1983. They both
picked up on the fact that Brian
Schottenheimer looks like he’s using tighter formations, so
that should be exciting to the
football nerds. But I noticed a lot of pre motion snaps. That’s
something that he promised when
he took the job. I know that’s something that also excites our
nerdier football fans, but it’s
what he said about or at least teased about what he’s going to
use George Pickens in this
scheme. Here’s what he had to say. His ability to track a
football is uncanny. You can’t
watch the guy play the deep ball and be like, okay, that’s just
different. So when he’s not
doubled, he’s really open. And so I think that’s something
we’re getting used to with him.
He’s been great with our ability to move him around. You know
it’s been different. You know we
think to maximize him he can’t just play one spot. You know he
can’t just play an X. We’re
going to move him around. He’s been great with that. He’s
excited about that because he
and CD need to be interchangeable. But the
instincts are also uncanny just
for finding zones and, you know, the ability to sit in windows
that maybe some people don’t
see. But the number one thing that jumps out at me would be
the ability to track the deep
ball, because it is uncanny. Schottenheimer was asked, how
does the Pickens acquisition
help Dak? And he stated the obvious. He said, if you look at
this offense last year, there
weren’t a lot of explosive plays, not a lot of explosive
plays in the run game or the
passing game. What this does is Pickens gives you a little bit
of playbook variety, also giving
us a little variety. This is now two camps that I’ve seen them
hand the ball off to Kavontae
Turpin, their wide receiver the speedster. Might they use him in
the run game this year? We’ll
have to see. Jane. Thank you. I’m sure we will be hearing much
more from you about the Dallas
Cowboys in the coming days. And when we return, we’re going to
talk about more players arrivals
at camp. I’m not sure any of them are going to top Puka
Nacua, and his go kart doesn’t
look particularly safe, but does look like a whole lot of fun
when we return. Dad, come on,
let’s go. I’m working on it. has been delayed another hour.
Yeah. NFL plus keep the NFL in
reach MVP. 26 teams reporting to training camp today. Only one of
them with their star receiver
making all like Mario Kart Puka Nacua showing up in interesting
fashion for the Rams. Did not
dye his hair. Leave that to offensive lineman Kevin Dotson
coming in and looking more like
a Ram than the logo that’s on his shirt. That actually looks
more like a ram horn right
there. Jaquan Brisker Atlanta Bears training camp made with I
know it’s Allen Iverson stepping
over everyone to get into Halas Hall today. Devonte Smith, can
we get the man a bell boy. Can
we get him some help. Thank you. Yeah there it is. He should not
have to. He’s not I’m not gonna
say this is not small, but he’s not the biggest guy. We don’t
need him with the double decker.
Lane Johnson wants to carry five different boxes. Mike, I say
have at it. Let’s give the wide
receiver just a little bit of help. Just made me pine for the
days of Reggie Wayne, the
veteran wide receiver for the Colts who just had great
entrances every year. One day,
the Indy one year, the Indy car, he had a military entrance. He
had a helicopter entrance.
Reggie Wayne was the king of the training camp arrival. Thinking
about you today, Reggie. Judy,
your favorite entry? Favorite arrival? I remember when the
Jets used to train at Hofstra
and the players stayed in the dorms. They used to like come in
with TVs, pillows, fans. And I
remember Vinny Testaverde pulled up one year in a Bentley and
then unloaded all of his stuff
from the Bentley. Ian, I’m sure your story was great too, but
we’re out of time. Two more
teams, Falcons and Steelers in tomorrow. We’re back
Are you from? Raymond James

  1. As a cowboys fan, we know how this go cus he did this with dak and ceedee last year. Micah will get his money but at the very last second. Jerry does this every single time and yall never fail to keep bringing it up cus that’s what he wants

  2. Terry has been a top WR but he has handled this situation poorly . If he cared about money he would not be holding out losing money paying all these fines . He could learn form parsons who showed up for his teammates and is showing leadership.

  3. Reggie Wayne was the GOAT! He was my first EVER favorite receiver when I was a kid! Plus! He was also the first NFL player that I ever had signed memorabilia from! Still have that Reggie Wayne signed Colts football in my room! With the certificate of authenticity of course! 😜😂.

  4. So Jane Kent will be happening soon for the commanders what is up with Terry? I want him to stay with the commanders because if we don’t have him, we won’t go into the Super Bowl.

  5. Just so everyone is aware, Jerry jones is really really good at keeping networks talking about the cowboys weather good or bad. Micah is getting paid, but to keep the news off of Dak he’s gonna play out this contract thing until the beginning of the season… you gotta remember, he’s a business man. Not a football player.

  6. Please start linking full articles in description when the video mentions one 33:12.
Just a thought if you actually want site traffic. Thank God you link random team hats. Never could've found those without this 😂

  7. Tyreek not being a professional at this point is no surprise… When he said Tua was a better passer than Mahommes, I knew he has mental health issues… that was medieval 😢

  8. Should be a helluva season – Buffalo Bills over LA Rams for Super Bowl
Upset of the week for week 1 Bears over Vikings [essentially a rookie QB at Soldier field – not a Bears fan, but Chicago looking to make a statement here]
    Lock of the week
    Denver over Tennessee

  9. when you get players like this, the team owners need to send them packing because when players believe money equals respect, everything revolves around them and they have no respect for the game itself…send them to someone else to be their problem and move on to others who are there for the sport and not the dollars…🤬

  10. Now he says his nack has tightness.Dude is faking i believe its his contract thing.he shoulda come to camp ready, dont show up and then say my back is tight.

  11. I know he wants more cash ok.he mentioned Watt got paid and Crosby and Myles..really Crosby hasnt done anything in 2 or 3 years he is all show and no go i am not impressed and dont know what all of the hype is about, dude is injured too much

  12. Players showing up to camp is different than contracts, they'll get their extensions when it's time Terrible seeing Terry out though, hoped he'd be there by now
