Kai Trump and Donald Trump have a close relationship, as evidenced by the latter approving of her choice of college as part of their “special bond.”
The younger Trump is a rising star in the golf world, having previously finished third on the Srixon Medalist Tour, the best finish of her young career. Meanwhile, the president is an avid golfer, often taking time from his duties to head to the links, as he did during a brief trip to Scotland recently.
That said, while the two live very different lives, it is clear that the elder Trump is greatly invested in his granddaughter’s life. During an interview with FOX News Digital, the 18-year-old recently shared how her relationship with Donald Trump helped influence her decision on which college to attend. It comes as Donald Trump was accused of ‘cheating at highest level’ as his golf game questioned.

“Me and him are very close, and we bond over golf,” she told the outlet as she discussed her NIL deal with Accelerator Active Energy. “So, he influenced me a lot with golf, especially when I was talking about schools and colleges. He loved that I was going to Miami because Trump Doral was right there as well, so he’s influenced me a lot with golf.”
She added that by virtue of having the same last name as the president, Kai Trump understands that she was afforded opportunities not many other teenagers are able to take advantage of as prepares to attend the University of Miami in 2026
Kai Trump added: “I was very, very lucky, and I’m obviously very thankful for all the resources I had. Obviously, I used those resources to develop into a great golfer now. But I’m very lucky because not many people have those opportunities growing up.”

Her comments lend credence to her claim that she and Donald Trump have a close relationship because of their shared love of golf. In a recent appearance on ‘FOX and Friends,’ the 18-year-old shared just how important the president was in helping her with her golf game.
“He taught me to just keep on working at it, and, honestly, I’ve gotten a lot better in past years with golf, but, he really just [taught me to keep] trying to keep on fighting and keep on practicing and whatnot,” she told Ainsley Earhardt.
“And I love playing golf… it’s something that we share, a special bond together.”

Interestingly, Kai Trump has spoken in the past about wanting to quit golf but insists her parents’ influence has kept her from following through.
She said on FOX News: “Sometimes I do want to put down the clubs. But I just know I have the talent and I’ve worked so hard to get this spot I’m at. I don’t want to give up now.
“Also, my parents raised me to never give up, so it’s very hard for me to put down the clubs and give up. […] Tough times happen. Anything you do, really, it’s going to get tough sometimes. But [you’ve] just [got to] keep on working at it.”
In the same vein, Donald Trump frequently has lauded Kai Trump’s skill on the links. In April, the president said: “She’s doing really well, and she wins a lot of matches. And some day she’ll be able to beat her grandfather, but I’m not sure when that’ll be… it might be a long time.”
