Kurt Kitayama produced some simply stunning golf over the weekend at the 3M Open.

Kitayama barely made the cut at the 3M Open, before reeling off 20 birdies and just three bogeys on the weekend to pip Sam Stevens to the title by one shot.

The 20 birdies that Kitayama made on the weekend at the 3M Open was the most in a two-round stretch on the PGA Tour for more than 40 years.

The 3M Open victory was hugely important for the 32-year-old – the second victory of his career to date.

Kitayama’s mother could not even watch her son win the 3M Open, and that just goes to show how much it meant to everyone involved with the PGA Tour star.

And Kitayama had those fans cheering him on throughout the week at TPC Twin Cities.

He spoke to reporters after his thrilling victory on Sunday, and opened up on what he thought about the crowds throughout the week at the 3M Open.

“The atmosphere? The fans were amazing, especially yesterday when I was — you know, 59 watch, everyone was cheering me on. Today to get off to a fast start, everyone was cheering me on. A lot of positive energy out there, which was amazing.“

Kitayama’s exceptional golf on Saturday would have got him noticed by more golf fans, there is no doubt about that.
