Charlie Woods enjoyed a much better second round of the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship but will not advance to the tournament’s match play rounds.
Woods, a rising junior at the Benjamin School and the son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, shot 74 (3-over) in the second round on July 22 at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas.
He finished 14-over (81-74—155) in the two-day stroke play portion of the tournament. The projected cut line to qualify for match play was 2-over at the time Woods finished his second round.
The U.S. Junior Amateur features a 264-player field with stroke play at Trinity Forest Golf Club and Brook Hollow Golf Club, both in Dallas.
The field will cut to the top 64 after two rounds of stroke play. Trinity Forest will then host championship match play rounds with the final match scheduled for July 26.
Past winners of the U.S. Junior Amateur include current world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (2013), Jordan Spieth (2009, 2011) and Tiger Woods (1991, 1992, 1993).
