Nico Echavarría opened the week with an impressive 64, navigating the course with precision and avoiding key hazards. In this interview, he discusses his sharp iron play, a crucial run of three straight birdies on the back nine, and how controlling spin from the fairway made all the difference. It’s a confident start for the Colombian as he looks to build momentum heading into the weekend.

Uh, Nico, many congratulations. You started your account here at the Genesis Scottish Open with an incredible 64. Tell us how you found it out there. Yeah, it was it was a good round. Uh, Marcel was playing well as and and it’s good to have that momentum in the group, I feel like. Yeah, I hit it I hit it good off the tea. Hit hit some approach shots very nice and and hold some putts and didn’t make a lot of mistakes. The only bogey I made was on two, which is a hard hole, and then three putt it. So, overall good. Um, you have to get used to a little with the speeds of the greens. You got to hit it a little harder. Um, but I was able to to manage that well and and finish with a good round. As you say, it wasn’t blowing quite as hard today. Not as much as the practice rounds anyway, but it’s not to say Lynx golf doesn’t present its challenges. How have you enjoyed them so far? There’s still some wind out there. Uh, a couple club differences into the wind and downwind. Um, you have to manage your way around here because missing in the wrong spots, you’re almost dead. Um, so yeah, I was I was able to do that and and and I I enjoyed the round today. I understand you haven’t played much lengths golf, but you’ve hit the ground running here. We were talking to JJ Spawn earlier in the week and he was saying there are some nuances and it takes a while to adapt, but for you, I’m guessing this just comes uh like second nature. No, it it last year I I struggled a lot with uh with the firmness of the turf. I wasn’t able to to hit my yardages with the irons. I was I was always short. Um the contact wasn’t just right. And this this year, I’ve I’ve managed it a little better and and been able to hit hit better numbers. Well, well played today. Thank you.
