Still struggling with the take away on your back swing? You are not alone! Majority of amateur golfers’ wrong takeaway is most common mistake to hit the inconsistent shots. This video shows real quick easy way to feel/ fix your takeaway, I have posted lesson version on my YouTube, make sure to watch it if you need help! (Search AlexaKim19) www.youtube.com/@alexakim19
1️⃣ Too Much Wrist Action Early – A good takeaway starts with your chest and shoulders, not your hands. Overusing your wrists too soon can lead to an unsteady backswing.
2️⃣ Rolling the Clubface Open – If the clubface opens too much right away, you’ll struggle to square it at impact. Keep the clubhead in line with your hands for a more neutral start.
3️⃣ Dragging the Club Inside – If you pull the club too far inside, it can cause an overly shallow or stuck position later in the swing. Keep the club moving slightly in front of you.
4️⃣ Tension in Your Arms – A rigid takeaway leads to a forced, unnatural swing. Stay relaxed and let your bigger muscles initiate the move.

[Music] Hi everyone, it’s Alexa here. Does your back swing look like this or does it look like this? Too high? In that case, you’re either coming in too flat or too steep. And then I have a solution to help you improve your takeaway. Stay tuned. For takeaway, there’s a few drills that you can do on the driving range. And here’s uh one of my favorite. Okay, first you’re going to place your golf club on your belly button. And then you’re going to make sure that your arms are fully extended just like your setup so you can choke down. And we’re going to take it back. So in one piece. So you want your shoulder, your arm, your shaft, your club head to stay as a unit. One, one. So you push it together. You don’t want to go one, two. You don’t want to have an extra movement. So this is going to feel like it’s just one piece swing. Pull it up together until the club head is parallel to your belly button. From here you can go up all you want. So this is going to help us to stay connected to your shoulder. Your hands, your arms are moving as a unit. So you want your club head to stay in front of your body, not behind or gets disconnected. Okay. So, in order to do that, I also have a different drill. If you have a two alignment sticks, you can place one in front of the ball and then one right behind the ball. The wider it is the spade the gap, it’s easier. As you get better, you can narrow that down. Okay? So, you’re going to place the ball in between and then try to keep your cool head straight back between those two alignment stick. So you cannot cross it this way inside. You cannot go outside. It’s deep. So our goal is to make sure that club head stays right be between those. Push and then up. Push up down. Okay. So let’s say if you don’t have alignment sticks, then what you can do is you can place two teeth right behind the ball. So you’re going to place the ball and then place the two T’s maybe 6 in behind the ball and you’re going to place it right here in between. Okay? And then that way you have a little bit of visual visual of where the club head is supposed to pass. So it’s going to feel like you’re going to go in between as a unit and then go up to the top. Try not to hit this tea behind or the other T going out too much. So make sure that your club head is going past through between those two T’s and then go up and down. Another drills you can do, you can have a block. So, I’m going to place it right here and try not to hit it. So, if you hit it, you’re pulling it in too much. Remember to push up as a unit. So, we’re going to make sure that club head, arm speed, everything is matching. Don’t speed up your club too much. Make sure that it’s moving up as a unit. And we’re going to go up from there. Push up, down, and turn. If you don’t have a block, what you can do is grab water bottle or anything. You can place uh some block in your bag, whatever you have in your bag to help you to visualize. So, I’m going to place a water bottle right there. And then I’m not going to try to hit it. I’m going to move up as a unit. So I’m going to make sure that my torso, my chest, my stomach, my shoulders are turning through together right here. Push back down and turn. Okay, last one you can do. This one is Nelly Corda’s favorite drill. I’ve seen her work on this many, many times on the range. So, you’re going to place a ball 6 in behind directly behind it. So, on your back swing, the objective is to hit and push that ball behind you right there and then go up and hit it. So, you’ll see that I’m going to tap and move this ball and I’m going to swing through shortly after. Go ahead, tap up, down, and turn. [Music] Those are the few drills that you can do in order to fix it. It won’t happen overnight. So, if you’re um golfer that been playing golf for a while and then you had a tendency of turning your club face too quickly or you had your arms going up too steep too fast, then it will take some time. So, at least give it a chance to practice 100 to 200 times every day. Make sure that your takeaway is in the right place and this will really help you to stay connected and have a good start of your back swing. I hope this helped and don’t forget to subscribe and like this video. Thank you for watching.

Love these tips unnieeeee! Fighting!
Definitely trying this next time at the range!
I will do this every day of the week until it becomes natural thank you for that great tip
Great practical video and not a bunch of talking points where its assumed we know how to make the motion.
多謝您的分享和拍片!您真是沉魚、落雁呀!世间难遇!
I’m one and two and I’m trying so hard to fix it 😢
great takeaway lesson! looking for more great videos
Great instructions. Thank you.
great tips. thanks.
Excellent drills. Great to have different visuals for different people. But once on the course, aside from muscle memory, what’s the thought process?
For me, it’s “…SLOW DOWN and keep the club head square to the ball…”. I keep the club head square by bowing my lead wrist. On the range, I start with half swings using my wedge or 9i and then slowly work up to a full swing and then 7I, 5i, Hybrid, etc.
Great video! 👏
Simple yet very effective. Thank you
Straight to the point and extremely useful, thanks!
I’ve been following your content regularly—absolutely love the value you’re sharing!
While watching, I noticed a few small opportunities that could help improve your discoverability on YouTube. If you’re open to it, I’d be happy to share a quick SEO tip that could make a real difference.
I’ve been playing a pretty long time, Alexa. Your videos are very insightful and takes a lot of the guess work out!
A question, please:
What is meant by releasing the club? Now that I know how to keep connected (by extending my arms), what is meant by releasing the club at impact?
If I keep my arms straight in both the backswing and down swing how does one release? Does releasing mean to break the wrists?
Anyway, thank you for the videos and keep them coming!

Hi Alexa. I have another question for you please.
In the down swing, do I rotate my left hand downward toward the target? Thanks Alexa!
I love the honesty of saying need to practice it 100 – 200 times a day every day 👍
Is it just me, or do Asian woman have a really good way of teaching golf?!! Love this, thanks and you have a new sub here! Cheers
Love the drills, thank you❤
Great teaching of how the back swing should start. thanks
