podrick Harrington has once again proven his class on the senior circuit claiming his second US Senior Open title after a tense final round battle at the Broadmore the two-time Open Champion edged out Steuart sink by a single stroke finishing 11 under par overall a clutch stretch of seven consecutive pars to close his round helped the 53year-old seal the win along with an impressive $800,000 winner’s prize despite a minor dispute with a commentator during the event Harrington had nothing but praise for the champions tour and the camaraderie it fosters among its players “it’s unbelievable we’re so much better together at this stage of our careers,” Harrington said after lifting the trophy “everybody is happier and friendlier we’re not half as grumpy as we were when we were young guys you get older and realize that you don’t have all the secrets you can share knowledge and it’s up to others to figure it out we’re still fiercely competitive on the course but the environment on the Champions Tour is really special in stark contrast Rory Mroy has made it clear he has no interest in joining the senior ranks down the line speaking earlier this year before his win at the Players Championship Mroy emphatically rejected the idea absolutely not i will not play Champions Tour Golf Mroy stated i’ve said a lot of absolutes that I’ve walked back before but I do not envision playing champions tour golf something has gone terribly wrong if I’m still competing at 50 mroy now 35 pointed to the longevity of his already 18-year professional career as part of the reason while he acknowledged the unique advantage golfers have in enjoying extended careers compared to athletes in other sports he also emphasized knowing when to step aside most athletes can’t say they’ve had an 18-year career i’ve been fortunate but when the time feels right I’ll have no issue moving on and letting the next generation shine harington on the other hand is embracing the second chapter of his career after finishing runnerup at the senior PGA Championship in May he sees the champions tour as a chance to reignite his love for the game and celebrate his legacy in a more relaxed but still competitive setting most of us would have burned out after 20 years in the sport harrington admitted “You put so much into it mentally physically that you can hit a wall but the Champions Tour is like a new lease on life the only way to keep going is with a new attitude it’s about enjoying and reliving the great moments of your career harington will now shift his focus to the upcoming Senior Open in July looking to add another trophy to his impressive collection meanwhile Mroy will return to Royal Portrait next month for the Open Championship aiming to capture his fifth major title and first since 2014 on home soil in County Antrum

  1. Sometimes Rory says too much
If he isn't on the champions tour in his fifties I'll eat my hat.
