Scottie Scheffler responded to comparisons made between him and Tiger Woods after he won The Open Championship.

The world number one, Scheffler, won The Open at Royal Portrush in convincing fashion. It was his fourth major championship win, and now the American is a US Open away from completing the career grand slam as Rory McIlroy did when he won the Masters.

Scheffler’s dominance has drawn comparisons to the great Woods. No one has dominated the field since he did in the early 2000s. Scheffler shared his opinion on the discussion.

Scottie Scheffler calls Tiger Woods the GOAT, calls comparisons ‘silly’

Scheffler, speaking on Pardon My Take, dismissed the Tiger Woods comparisons, calling them “silly.”

He said, “Any time you get mentioned in the same breath as some of the greats of the game is really cool, but the comparisons I think are just very silly.

“Tiger stands alone in the game of golf. He completely transcended the game. He was by far the best player we’ll ever see in our lifetimes. People are always looking for the next thing, but there’s only one Tiger Woods, and the rest of us are just trying to do our best out there.”

Woods is held in the highest regard among his competitors. He was McIlroy’s hero, his biggest rival, Phil Mickelson, called Woods the GOAT, and now Scheffler is doing the same.

Statistics show Scottie Scheffler dominates like Tiger Woods

Scheffler gave a nod to the statistics that have sparked comparisons between himself and Woods.

He continued, “I think it’s silly too because I’m my own person and I’m just trying to get the best out of myself. It’s not something I think about on a daily basis, but when you see the statistics and you’re being compared to him in some way, that means you’re doing something right.”

This is yet more evidence of the American’s healthy relationship with his profession. Scheffler reflected on his career thoughtfully before The Open, saying his family was his priority, not golf. It’s clear why he would not get carried away with these comparisons.

The statistics say Scheffler is comparable to Woods, however, and that’s just testament to the four-time major winner’s greatness.

He was 32 under par in all of the major championships combined in 2025. The next best was McIlroy, at 11 under par. Scheffler is almost three times better at major championships than the second-ranked golfer in the world.

That’s dominance over the field that we haven’t seen since Woods, and while Scheffler can try to dismiss the comparisons, they won’t go away until he stops winning.
