A golfer who dreamed of breaking a world record knew exactly what to do after seeing Joel Strasser shove record numbers of things into his beard.
Anya Bannasch (USA) was inspired by her fellow American to break the record for most golf tees in the hair – managing an incredible 711 of them when she took the challenge on in Carlsbad, California, on 9 November 2024.
It was Joel’s many records, including most candy canes in a beard (187) and most beard baubles in a beard (710) that spurred her on to finally fulfil her childhood dream.
The 45-year-old was aiming to get at least 400 tees in her hair and almost doubled it.
She told us: “Joel [Strasser] is definitely the GOAT of beard records. I followed his journey and I’m just honestly inspired by how unique, creative and funny he is.
“His creativity gave me the push to be like, ‘Okay let’s do something crazy too, I can be the golf girl version of Joel Strasser’.
“So thank you, Joel for inspiring me to do something goofy with my hair.”
Anya said placing all of the golf tees in her hair took a lot of “patience, precision and engineering magic”.
Her tactic was putting her hair in pigtails then recruiting two friends to help her slip golf tees into every single available space.
It took them just over 47 minutes to get them all in place.
“It was definitely a work of art,” Anya laughed. “My friends were calling me the ‘Golf Tee Goddess’ because I kind of looked like I had a big crown on my head.”
Anya, who is “obsessed” with golfing and shares her adventures on the green on social media, said she knew her record had to be something to do with the sport.
She added: “I’ve always dreamed of being in the Guinness World Records book, that’s totally been a dream of mine. I wanted to create something around the golf world and thought this would be a great idea.
“It feels truly amazing and I’m so honoured to be part of the Guinness World Records family.
“I can’t even tell you how excited I am, I’ve dreamt about this my whole life and now that I’m part of it I’m so grateful. “
Anya hopes her wacky world record will inspire others to chase their craziest dreams.
She said: “If you have a dream just do it, get out there, don’t be afraid.
“Whether it’s golf tees in the hair or something else, always believe in yourself and just go for it and you might end up with a world record too.”
