If you’ve ever wondered why ball striking feels
so inconsistent, one good strike followed by a horrible messy one, this video is going to change
everything and going to help you transform the way you strike the ball with your irions forever.
This is really going to change your game. We’re going to dismantle some myths around the down
swing and ball striking that are hurting your game rather than helping it and get you striking
it like you’ve never struck it before. If you find the information in today’s video helpful, hit that
like button down below. Hit the subscribe button if you’re not subscribed already. And remember
in the comments down below today’s question, what’s the longest iron in your golf bag? I have
a five iron. Is the longest iron in my golf bag? I want to know. Cool. That struck. Wow. What’s
the longest iron you carry in your golf bag? Let me know in the comments. So, let’s take a look
at optimotion here. And what we can see in the down swing is there is a hip sway and a shoulder
sway. This can get up to three or four inches with world class players. And what you can see for me,
I’m two inches across with my hips and I’m 1.4 for across with my shoulders. They could be more
across. So going towards target in the down swing. And this is where the myth really comes in because
people get these numbers very mixed up and that really ruins their strike. So what we do see
from worldass players is three to four inches across with certain segments of their body as they
move into their down swing. But what we see a lot and I have amateurs telling me they do in their
down swing is everything should start with the hips. They say everything starts with the hips. It
always starts with the hips. And that encourages this move where the hips run out from underneath
them. Upper body’s way too far back or hips go, shoulders rotate, and the club gets way out in
front. So, we see a real separation from the two segments as they start the down swing. Like,
they’re actively trying to do it. In the comments down below, who hasn’t? Let me know. You’re
trying to drive your hips open and forward in the down swing. This creates such bad low point
control like really poor strikes. Now what we see from some of the world’s best is as they move
the club down where their arms get about parallel to the ground in the down swing is both segments
of sway. So pelvis and upper body sways across on the down swing at quite equal amounts like the
hips are a half an inch ahead but they’re very very close to each other. And if we can get you to
get this feeling, you’re going to find that your striking absolutely transforms. You’re really
going to start to get ball then ground kind of strikes and get some of the best shots you’ve ever
hit. Certainly with ground contact. So I’m going to take these two Shrixen golf balls. Use any
manufacturer you want. I’m just going to use these lovely Shrixens. Now these two Shrixens are about
3 and 12 in wide. So when I measure them, that’s about 3 and 12 in from here to here. So I’m going
to set up to an imaginary ball. And then what I’m going to do is place these two balls so they’re
touching my lead foot. They’re outside of my lead foot here. So they measure about three and a half
inches. There’s a bit of perspective involved, but we’re going to use those two balls to sync
your sway with your arm drop to get the club path working and get your strikes jamming. So I want
you to go top of your back swing and stop. So what I’m going to do is I start down so I can see these
two balls at my lead left eye here at the top. So, I’m going to try and cover those two balls
up with a hip bump and a shoulder bump. So, shoulder and hips are going to go together across
to cover those balls up. Now, at the same time, I’m going to try and move my arms down so
they’re parallel to the ground here. So, literally just pulling my arms down. I’m not
trying to rotate. I’m not trying to lower arms laying it down or anything like that. I am
going to use this shove across with my arms just coming down sync the lateral movement with
the drop of the club which is going to get you some pass like you’ve never seen before which
also will lead to way better striking. So again I’m going to get that feel. I can see those balls
hips shoulders just cover them up but at the same time going to just drop those arms down. And
with those segments kind of stacking on top of each other now where they’ve gone two to four
inches across, I can now turn and rotate into that ball. Now what I’m going to do, I’m just
going to move the inside ball. So the outside one is still there. Set myself up as if I am
now two balls away from that outside ball. So I can still use the outside ball. I’m going to try
it with a shot. Arms down. Cover those balls up like this. transforms people striking like it
totally changes the way they think about the down swing. That myth of that the hips are going
like the hips do go earlier than the shoulders in some ways but they are certainly not out running
shoulders where we start getting massive tilts and it affects how we’re turning. There is a
slight sinking on the way down as the arms drop that allows good golfers to get on better paths
without thinking about it. Get across the ball to get those ball then turf strikes. What good
players are really good at doing is then slamming on the brakes to make sure they don’t just keep
sliding towards target. Use this two ball drill. It’ll transform the way you strike the ball, move
in the down swing. And if you want to find out how far you should be hitting a club like a 7, watch
this video here. It’s got all the information you

How good is your golf ball striking?
5 Iron. I use it to punch out from tree trouble more than a full strike. I do not carry a hybrid. Instead I have a 7 wood, which I find I can hit better not only from the fairway, but from the rough.
5 iron
If a utility iron counts, then I have a 3-iron. But, really it's more like a flat-faced 21 degree hybrid
5 iron for me
5 iron
Longest iron is 3 iron, in fact if I t up and hit with the 3 and use driver less my handicap would probably drop to low double digits, my ego says driver!!!
2 Iron, 😂😂😂
i230 7-iron
6 iron is my longest iron. I do carry a 5 hybrid ?
3 iron
6I
4i
My longest iron is a 6 iron.
Longest iron in the bag is 5i but on windy days I’ll grab the 4i
6 iron, then I go into hybrids.
2 iron. Stingers all day!!!
The hip thing is from Hogan. Hogan fought a hook. 85% of amateurs fight a slice. No one should do what Hogan did. You will slice off the planet by firing your hips like hogan did.
3 iron
All pros do this but the visual is sometimes deceiving to the naked eye , except for if you watch Scottie for example. You can easily see it in his swing
6 iron
Was a 5 but changed it out for a 7 hybrid
5 is the longest iron. Added the 7 wood
5 iron for me.
6 iron is my longest. I use a hybrid for the gap between my six iron and 5 wood (which is 20 degrees so it’s more like a 6 wood).
Normally 5 iron but heading to Ireland next month so the 4 iron is in the bag!
4 iron is my longest iron. I'm thinking about replacing it with a wood though. Would this swing thought apply for the driver as well?
4 iron. … controversial I know! I wouldn't say I hit it great, but hit hybrids worse. I probably need a 7 wood…for reference I play off 4.
4-iron. But it's been opened by a degree to improve peak height. I am looking at higher woods and hybrids to replace the 4 on courses that need more stopping power.
5 iron for me. This is exactly what I am working on. Thanks for the feeling. Feels good and I understand it. Can’t wait to hit the range. Once again, thanks for the great explanation.
8 iron.
Longest SET iron is 5. I pulled the 4i for a players distance 5i thats only a half degree weaker. Not fitted. Just experimenting but its so much easier to hit and fits the gapping well enougj
Thanks Mark. Is this the same with driver too?
Ditched my 4&5 irons for hybrids. Higher ball flight and more distance too
