Welcome back to the 2v1 series. Today we’re taking on one of the best players in the world, Jason Day. Yeah, we’re all and his partner Ryan Ruffles. You need to hit a punch hook. A punch hook straight out. Straight out of hazard. Ruff just picked up some poison ivy. So I hit it in the after two tough losses. I’m determined to turn things around right here. Away with it. All right, first hole here. Double Eagle Golf Club. Yep. Appreciate you uh hosting and getting all out, man. This is going to be awesome. Yeah. But uh 2v1 series 0 and2 right now. So um I don’t really know if this is going to be a chance to go one and two, but we’re going to have a great time. Uh they’re going to play alternate shot. So literally when someone finishes the hole, that next person will tee off and so forth. So, uh, guess gonna go first. Jason, you’re gonna lead us off. Doug, let’s do it. Sounds good. All right. So, um, I don’t know, but it’s par four. I usually hit threewood down here. So, just try and hug, you know, the center right side of the fairway. Nice. Down the left side. Down the left side. But I’ll take that down. Oh, rookie mistake, bro. He’ll do it all day, too. It’s fine. It’s all right. Oh, bro. My bad. My bad. Oh. All right. Here we go. Three wood and hand. Nice. That was close right there, baby. That’s perfect. That’s like hammered, too. That’s actually further than We’ll take that. All right. Well, off and running here. This is going to be uh it’s going to be a good one. Very interesting match here. Yeah, it’s going to be fun. Got to be honest. pretty uh pretty stoked about this one. Yeah, like I said in my lesson video, Jason is um when Alec and I first started golfing, we were little, I had two golfers that I looked up to the most and got me into the game. Jason Day and Brooks Kepka. So, this is um a pinch me moment right here. First of all, big effort from Evan. Yeah, like he was supposed to get here on Friday night. All these flights got cancelled out of um Atlanta. So he lost his lost his luggage and he’s still a trooper. He’s out here playing with us. So good on him. But yeah, he’s using a rental set. He’s using um the best rental set in the world. He’s Yeah, probably. Well, that threewood he just hit off the first was uh the 3wood I won the PGA with. So that’s pretty solid. Still works. It still does work. Dude, we were in Florida this year and he left an alignment stick at another golf course and he was like stressed out. He’s like this. I have no emotional attachment to any club. The only thing that I have an emotional attachment to are these sticks. Really? I’ve had these sticks for my whole career. No way. Yeah. Whole career. What’s so special about it? I don’t know. I just like they I just use them. I’ve always used them. I’ve had them ever since I turned professional. Yeah. And that’s what this is my 17th season on as on the PJ tour, but I’ve been pro 18 and 1/2 years. So 18 and 1 half years of two sticks following me around the world. It’s crazy. But throw them out. I’d say in general calling this early, I’m a good iron player normally and I’m a good putter. I think those are my two strengths. So, try and call in one of those skills that is a little bit drop, go drop, go. Okay. Where is it? Just short in the rough. I believe that was a little bit fat. We are playing the ball up today. just if you see any of the lies being better. 7 a.m. Oh, 8:00 a.m. So, a little bit of mud balls and they’re playing alternate shot. So, and we’re playing with rental clubs, so really don’t know how this is going to come out. So, um actually we’re not really playing with rental clubs. We’re playing with um Jason’s. So, I think I’m in good hands. So, I got 139. I got 52 in hand. Try to put this on the green here. Oh, I did the same thing. So, I kind of caught a little heavy, but hey, they’re not on the green either, so got to take that as a win. He’s literally playing blind. Yeah. Tough tough. I don’t think I I He might play great, huh? He might play great. Yeah. I mean, that’s the thing. It might get No expectation, too. You’re like, “Oh, I’ve got nothing that I recognize like free swing at it.” and you’re like, “Oh, it’s working out.” Yeah. First thing I learned from playing bent yesterday is we got to play the golf shot, not the lie. So, I’ve been playing Bermuda a lot. So, try a nice nice high softy. Get it landing right right by the hole. [Music] Just a few practice swings. Get this thing going up the hill there. Either close or chip it in for for rough there. I pulled it big butt cuz I know my man Ruff is going to hold it. So, he needs to get on this and give us a little bit of pressure off the first edge. Are you asking me what the read? I thought you’re a good putter. I am a good putter. Okay. I was a good reader. Would suck to go down one early, but We need this one. Make a par. That’s a double eagle. Didn’t break quite as much. Yeah, I know. Very straight here. The greens are double eagle. The whole golf course is immaculate. Um the greens here are very very difficult to read sometimes cuz they’re so so flat. Yeah, they just Oh, okay. Bogey to start. Little bit jittery, but we’re good. Nice putt. Good putt. Really good. So, we were looking up um just game plan for today. Yeah. Strength and weaknesses of both of your game. Mhm. So, how’s the driving been recently? Um is it straight? Uh you can get it in play all day. Yeah, I keep it out in front of me. Yeah. Yeah, you’re good enough. good at like just scabbing it around. Scabbing it around. What’s your weakness if you had one? You say probably my looks? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I’m not I’m not the greatest looking. Hey, but the No, I would say the teardrop thigh thigh is looks good though. That’s a strength. The teardrop. That’s the little muscle right here that looks like a tear drop. Hey, there you go. No, it’s uh I would say irons are coming back online. driver’s been a little weak this this year, but not today. I’m unsure at the moment what my strength and weaknesses are. You’ve been injured for 12 weeks. Get right of them. Setting up for uh Ryan’s strength. Yeah, I think it’s still in the fairway though. No, it’s just in the it’s just in the pot. That was I’m really good at layups, but that’s okay. We’ll wedge it close. I got driver a little bit left of Jason’s. Uh, nice full swing here. Here we go. There it is. Shot. Thank you. Lovely. Thank you. That’ll work. That’s really good. All right. Away. Smoked it. Smoked it down the middle. Y and then uh I’ve just cut it into the right. Oh, there’s so there’s middle pots here. So there’s fairways on either side of the middle pot. So it plays as the right pots. It plays as the right pots because we typically go down the down the left side. I mean you can go down the right. I ran on the right on purpose. Never. So just short of that will give me 83 yards to Yeah. It’s 170 170. Just hit a 175 to 180 shot. Good. Right. Sit. What? Made you made you nervous, didn’t I? Yeah. I was like, what? I was like straight at the pin. It’s like five left of it. I was like, “Oh, good.” I think Ryan hit a great bunker shot uh laid up to probably a hole out yardage for Jason Day. So, I think I got to get this somewhere up there close cuz I think Jason’s wedges from yesterday. If you guys haven’t already, go check out the lad’s video at the course record series. Um, I don’t think there’s any much better feeling in the world. Does it make your day? Yeah, it did. It did kind of make my day. To preface this story of why I don’t have my clubs, um, I flew up here from Atlanta and there was bad storms in Atlanta, so a lot of flights were cancelled. We tried to rent a car, there was no cars available. We tried to fly out the next day. There was no flights available. Um, and we and then we check the app, refresh the app, we get a we get a uh flight that um flies out of Atlanta and we got in yesterday and filmed with the lads and um but your bag was on the previous plane. Yeah. So, the bag didn’t make it, but the camera did. So, we’re at least be able to shoot content and I get to play with uh some of world the mystery bag. The mystery bag of former world number one. So, it’s a pretty cool opportunity. I would say they’ve hit a great shot up there. So, he’s got a potential eagle outside eagle chance. Uh birdie for sure. So, I got to hit this in tight forward. Perfect. Just a little shy of it. Is it? I can’t see. Felt pretty good. I was trying to hit it something uh kind of lowish in there because it’s a little dewy. I should be able to get the skip. Might be just a tad shot, but we got a really good opportunity to make a birdie here. Is that is how you hit a 75 yard pitch shot. That was beautiful. It’s pretty soft today. Our foreign landed literally 2 yards behind our ball. So, this putt that’s going to break quite a bit right to left. Jason said it doesn’t break as much as you think. So, I’m going to trust him here. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. That was a good line. That was a great line. Just a little less speed. I think you might have had it. It’s decent. Gave it effort, though. I got to got to get him to the hole today. You see left to right and then straight. Yeah, I see that on this side, too. Yeah. So, what are you thinking? You thinking inside left? Left center even? Yeah. Yeah, I I would say left center. It’s going to be pretty dang straight. Left center and then it’s going to come back or straighten out. Nice. So, to preface on Bust the Jack’s video, we received a comment directed at me saying in quote, I believe he said, “Evan is trash compared to George.” Now, I know Wesley and I know he’s very fiery and he’s very like that’s just his nature. But at the end of the day, the trash word I believe is very uncalled for. And if I was trash, I don’t think I would be in the US Open final with them shooting the same exact score. I’m 0 and two to Wesley, so he has the right to say that. Yeah, he could say he could say you’re trash. Just say, “Let’s run it again.” Ev, what do you weigh? Like 212. I I the heaviest I was was like 225 during football season. Dang, dude. So, middle linebacker just rock hard. Yeah, he was not rock hard. Just like that. Pause. Wait, wait, wait. What? They’re like spin back soft right now, Jay. Or they have the If you drive it in low, they’ll have the skip and then the stop. If you float it in there, it’ll spin. So, you got to drive it in there low. 60°. Jay wants me to just drive it in there a little bit lower. Yep. just left. I think that’s going to be nice. Don’t spin. It was like wet. So, it just kind of went in my lobby to 20 ft. That’s not 20 ft. That’s like 10 ft. That’s a good solid commercially sound golf shot. Ryan, commercially sound like DJ Tour. That’s probably inside the average. Yeah, I think it is. And this guy’s complaining about hitting it inside the average of the tour player and he’s sitting next to one complaining for uh for the video. Go ahead and hit one right there and see if uh you put it closer than Ryan. This is not for the match. This is to see uh the PJ tour average cuz I would say you’re probably slightly above average or maybe maybe this is what you call a average PJ tour average white shot right here. He’s giving me he’s pumping me up here. I got to I got to try and perform here. So he’s much better than average. Oh, that’s not there, Jason. That was um See, Ryan, wow. That that that is a great golf shot. Can you put that in the video, actually? Yeah. 85 yards. I got 60°. Nice flighted Jay wedge here. Hopefully. Oh, that was nice. Great shot. Awesome. Thank you. Hold on. Thank you. All right. That’s an average tour shot right there. Yeah, that is. I would say I hit the green and Jason didn’t. Maybe I should be on the PGA tour. No, actually I’m probably not near as good. What do you think you guys need to shoot to to win today? I don’t know. I I didn’t know at the start of the day either because Ev’s not using his own clubs. I was like, this could be a disaster or it could work out. And so far so good for him. So, we’ll have to play for sure. I think if we keep it one or two under, if we get there early, we’ll do a little better. But looks a lot closer on the fairway than what it is right now. But um do you think he makes this? Yes. That was my first putt. Okay, I know what you guys are doing. What’s that? I know their strategy. Look, you purposely missed that because Ryan’s going to tap it in for Jason to tee off. Well, we don’t trust that ball striking. Hey, I don’t know. It’s just been the common theme in the last three holes. But that they’re betting on you missing this putt, though. He’s thinking too much about the strat. I think he’s thinking too much about our strategy. We’re actually just trying to grind it out. Just down the hill. A little left to right. Got to put a nice good stroke on this bad boy. Oh, snapped a little bit. I tr I tried to trust that it wasn’t going to break as much and it did. Or did they break more and he just said that? Yes, I think it’s all it’s all in it’s all in the strategy. Oh, no. Planting seeds. All right. Well, that was a missed opportunity there. I tried to I tried to trust Jason on that one. I was less break and it freaking snapped. That’s all right. I’m going to play a 190 yard shot. Six on. Just fade it in there. H probably just in the pot there, mate. Just didn’t cut enough. In the what? In the pot. In the bunker. Oh, the bunker. Sorry. I had no idea. I was like, what’s the pot? And knock down seven. Here we go. Oh my word. Y great shot. I’m gonna be honest. When I first started golf, I had the JPX 9 uh 917s um with Mazuno and feeling that JPX club head on the ground again. Golf shot. I love hitting golf shots in front of Jason Day. Yeah, that’s I don’t think there’s really anything better than that. has uh got a good shot there about 18 feet or 20 feet or so. You had to be a little bit left of that pin. Um I just was a little bit too far left just because it’s on this side of the slope. I mean that’s uh relatively easy bumpy shot. We’re not plugged. I don’t think the way it’s worked out today so far is I haven’t really hit many shots. I’ve hit a lot of shots and I haven’t hit a lot of parts. But so he’s hit all the drives or all the T- shots through four holes. the lie is sitting down. Um, it’s kind of almost like nestled itself in there a little bit. So, I’m just going to try and get the thing kind of on and running like a pot. And that’s that. No, no, no, no. Try to dig it out. That’s all right. Oh, not very good there. This pin is on a diabolical slope here. How’s this form? It’s not too bad. Spends a lot of time in there, unfortunately. Put a good roll on this one. See if we can knock it in. O. Oh my gosh. What a putt. I shouldn’t have helped him with his putting. He’s actually putting pretty solid. Hey, you know what? I always say it because I lipped out right there. I’m going to lip in on a putt later on the in the round. So, I’m actually I’m good with that. Hold this now. Oh gosh, they’re so slow, dude. I didn’t even grab my putter. I was like, I don’t know if that’s in the circle of friendship. I actually hit my line and it just the last two putts have gone very slow. The thing is here, what I love about them is they golf their ball and they know in a qualifier tournament that’s not good. There is still with especially this hole on a 2% slope like there is still work left to do. So a lot of work. What do you see? Edge just probably more than definitely outside it for sure. Okay, good. Yeah, cuz that like if you do that then that it’ll be more like that piece on one. Yeah, perfect. Legendary. Great fun. That’s never fun when you’re grinding for a bogey. I don’t get the t-shirt. Now you got the t-shirt. Yeah. See, I’m telling you, they’re doing it for a reason. Jason, you did that on purpose. I’d like to say I I’d rather stay one in front of you. No, not driving that thing pretty good, dude. right now, dude. So far, I think he couldn’t have really driven it better. I think it’s uh it’s partly to do with where this thing is sitting. Like, it’s sitting in a barn from a from a legend. So, I don’t think it has anything to do with Hey, man. Max or I’m not I’m not hitting it. You’re you’re the one hitting it. Jason, my question to you is um I like to leave the people at home every time they watch my video with something they can take away. Yeah. Um so if there’s anybody out there that’s kind of pursuing a goal or dream for you it was to be a professional golfer and be on tour. What is one thing you would leave someone with your number one tip or your number one of trying to chase a goal or a dream? Um obviously everyone can say hard work and all that stuff but I I understand um you need hard work is like only part of the equation that needs to solve the whole hey how do I get from here to there. Um the big thing is that you have to have a good solid team around you. If you don’t have a good solid team around you that makes being successful very difficult. Like obviously your channel you have a good solid bunch of guys around you that are going to propel you forward. So, and that’s the same as in golf. Um, if we’re we have, you know, even though it’s an individual sport, we have caddies, we have coaches, we have, um, massage therapists, we have trainers, we have mental coaches, we have so many people that are involved. Your wife is another one. So many people are involved for you to be successful. And you have to have a really solid team around you and a very, very good game plan of what you’re trying to do and how you’re trying to achieve it. Obviously, you want long like your long-term goals, but you got to have the process goals to be able to help push those long-term goals within. That’s amazing. I think that’s the first time anyone has said, you know, it’s all about your team rather than like actually a personal uh trade. So, I appreciate that. Hey, no worries, man. Go with what is what feels that’s what I was saying. Go with the easiest shot and and go with that. Better off hitting fuller shots right now than little off speed shots. That’s what you want. What do you think the wind’s doing? Like from it’s in a little bit, but it’s going to be everywhere today. So like it’s go with what you’re feeling right now. Light. So light and variable. I mean, I feel like there’s a very high ceiling, but there’s a very low floor. Yeah. Like right now, I can go shoot six to 10 under, but I could also shoot six to 10 over. Right. So, like for me, it’s getting that more consistent around even even if I shoot one under every time. I’d rather do that than, you know, shooting eight under than eight over. Yeah. Just consistent. Trying to work on that more. We played pretty good in Zurich, didn’t we? Yeah. I think we finished 52nd or something like that. Two teams that make the cut. So, I think we finished dead last. We definitely made the cut. I don’t know. You probably don’t remember this, but we were alternate shot on the first day. Well, actually, no, it was it was best bowl. I birded one eagle, too, and then I didn’t contribute the rest of the day. It on YouTube. You hit your quota. Yeah, but on YouTube there’s this highlight package of like Brian Ruffles, Jason Day round one highlights, right? And the cameraman arrived on three. So it looked like you did every single shot of his and I was like, “Oh, okay. Fair enough.” He he did absolutely nothing that day. Just try and get this speed right here. That would be that would be lovely. I gave it too much. Rough has had 12 weeks off. He’s playing a tournament next week. He needs to learn to hold those putts. I’m doing him a favor really to be honest. All right, here we go. I’m just in the fringe. Last hole lipped out. So, at some point today, we’re going to lip and hopefully we get that done right here. Oh, he’s been very close to being on this kind of putting us down a bit. Like if he would have just It’s all right. It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay. Still at even. If we would have played it like left where he wanted it to, he probably would have missed just a little bit left. As you’re talking, we tend to rhyme a lot of things together. Yeah. And then we tend to know what the guys the other person’s saying just based off what they’ve speaking in tongues. Yeah. It really is. So the way this hole is set up uh with the wind direction and the um the driver set up. So essentially the trees are on the left. So if I hit that fade to the right side, I’m going to have a good angle in. Yeah. I mean you’ve got to keep this left. Are you a member? Are you a member here? Did you get all that? Yeah. Don’t go too far right. Like you see how there’s You see on the right side of the fair there’s a problem. Don’t go too far left. Don’t go too far right. You see how there’s a trunk left of that in the trees? You have to stay on that second trunk or left of it. All right. Here we go. You got this, man. No, that’s I towed it so it should be perfect. We were talking before like I’ve got tons of momentum putting cuz I keep putting and he’s got tons of momentum hitting shots but then as soon as I get a swing I’m like oh I haven’t hit a shot for the holes. So I’m like all out of sorts and you guys hit a putt. He’s like oh what’s the speed? I want to kind of talk about a little bit of what you guys have going on with the lads. So kind of bring me through how you guys started the lats and where you see the lads going this year. Yeah. So, I basically started um I have been doing YouTube for like about a year before the lad started and uh Jay’s always like we’re good friends so he’s kept an eye on me what I’m doing. Um, and I kind of he started to ask me some more questions, some more questions late last year. And then eventually he was like, we got this group of friends that we’ve got. We had a group chat called the lads and uh he was like, “Oh, should we just like do a channel? Like we do the same thing we’re doing but put it on camera cuz every time we play it’s hilarious. It’s quality golf, good matches. Like why don’t we just do what we do and put on camera?” So like, yeah, let’s get it started. That’s what we just tried to do. We’re five really good friends who have a great time playing golf. Jason’s got amazing knowledge to pass on that he wants to pass on. Um there’s so many things that work together and we’re like, let’s do this and we’re just learning on the fly and hopefully we keep getting bigger and bigger, collabing with more and more people and hopefully become one of the bigger golf platforms out there. Absolutely. I I mean the thing is when you combine elite golf with great energy and great banter, the one thing that I respect the most out of you guys is you guys want to be positive. You want to see people succeed and truth to be told and a lot of YouTube golfers they don’t want that. They want you to fail. They they want to talk bad about you which is very unfortunate. So I really respect what you guys do. Well that’s one of the things too like I don’t want to put words in Jay’s mouth but one of the reasons he really wanted for you to come on is he loves that about you. The positivity how much you’re always preaching positivity cuz that’s what we try and do. Like we’ll rip each other but at the end of the day it’s all love and we want each other to succeed. So, if one person’s struggling on the day, you’ll always hear us like begging out the other person like, “Come on, bro. Like, we can get there.” Like, “How are we going to figure this out?” Like, that’s amazing. And so, we like that and that’s how we’ll probably stay. That’s so good. Hey, subscribe to the lads. I try to implement more of like making sure my body gets to the target and sometimes like that comes out a little too hot but honestly that’s that’s a good spot. I’ll take it from there. All right. Yeah. They throwing clubs. They’re breaking stuff. They’re hitting T- markers. Kind of take me through your thoughts on that and kind of like why why they feel the need to do it and just kind of your thoughts. So golf is very frustrating sport to the point as if you’re just a normal weekend warrior, it’s not that frustrating just because you don’t have to do it for your livelihood. And I understand we’re playing for a lot of money, but it’s more than that than just money. It’s like world ranking position. It’s trying to win a tournament. It’s trying to do a lot of things. So, and there’s different ways that guys handle stress. Some guys handle it through laughing. Some guys handle it through, you know, berating themselves. Some guys handle it through throwing a club. um and they just can’t somehow deal with stress um certain ways and that’s how they get the stress out. And I understand why some of these guys do it. Are we role models? Yes. But um we’re trying to compete at the highest level and um win tournaments and try and create our own legacy. I understand that we also need to act a certain way as well, but also that’s what makes us humans and that’s what makes us real because us as professional golfers, we’re not perfect and we do make mistakes and there has been a lot of mistakes um recently and I’ve made plenty of mistakes by doing the same thing. Um I just tend to do it behind the scenes. I’ve snapped plenty of clubs, trust me, I I don’t necessarily disagree with it. I don’t agree with it, but I mean like people deal with it how they deal with it and that’s showing just the true emotional u you know way that golf is out there playing competitive nature. Not playing too bad. I mean we’ve we’ve jelled okay. We just haven’t had the opportunities um that we’d like to. So got to do my best here to chip this in. Dedicate it to Minwap paging Dr. Chapinsky.
