Padraig Harrington is being backed to add a third senior major to his roll of honour this week at the Senior Open.
The Dubliner, who has two victories in the regular Open Championship on his CV, was handed the honour of hitting the opening tee shot at Royal Portrush last week and makes his way to Sunningdale near Ascot as the joint favourite at 8/1 with BOYLE Sports to add to his two Senior US Open titles, including last month’s triumph in Colorado.
Harrington shares favouritism along with New Zealander Steven Alker, with Miguel Angel Jimenez (9/1) and Ernie Els (12/1) also rated likely challengers at the Berkshire track
Darren Clarke, who pipped Harrington to the title at Gleneagles in 2022 by a single shot, is a 25/1 shot to double his Senior Open tally, while former Open champion Justin Leonard has been clipped into 40/1 from 50/1 after playing all four rounds at Royal Portrush last week to finish tied-59th.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports said: “Another Claret Jug is up for grabs this week and punters are showing great confidence that Padraig Harrington is primed to roll back the years and complete a hat-trick of senior majors.”
