Ultimate Golf Group, owner of Sunningdale Heath Golf Club, has expanded its presence in Surrey with the acquisition of Merrist Wood Golf Club.
Marketed by international real estate advisor Savills on behalf of receivers, the Guildford-based property had a guide price of £2.25 million. The final selling price has not been disclosed.
Opened in 1996, Merrist Wood features an 18-hole, 6,909-yard, par-72 championship course designed by David Williams. Formerly under Crown Golf, it was purchased by Lavershot Oaks in 2020. Only nine holes have remained open since 2023, as planning permission was pursued for course renovations. The club is now fully closed while Ultimate Golf Group seeks tenders from leading architects to undertake a comprehensive redesign of the parkland layout.
