Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grey Bruce and West Simcoe invites community teams to its ninth annual tournament on Sept. 27, raising funds for free mentorship programs that reach more than 550 children each year.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grey Bruce and West Simcoe will hold the ninth annual Golf Fore Kids Sake tournament at Sauble Golf and Country Club on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Organizers hope the daylong scramble will draw corporate teams, seasoned golfers and first-timers alike, all teeing off with one goal in mind: supporting no-cost mentorship for local children and youth.
“Whether you are a serious golfer, a local business owner or simply someone who cares about young people, you are part of something bigger when you show up for this event,” said Emma Fryday, the agency’s mentorship and community engagement lead.
Last September’s rain-soaked outing still managed to raise a record $27,000. Fryday said this year’s target is a more modest $20,000, but the real objective is “growing the tournament’s reach so we can serve even more young people and families.” More than 550 youth access Big Brothers Big Sisters programs each year, a number that continues to climb as the agency expands into rural and underserved communities.
Beyond the traditional 18-hole scramble, golfers can look forward to an expanded silent auction featuring exclusive items, lively on-course contests and a banquet dinner. New players will find the relaxed format welcoming, while returning teams can renew friendly rivalries that have become part of the tournament’s charm. Costumed foursomes are encouraged—a playful nod to past years when tutus and throwback plaid added colour to the fairways.
Proceeds funnel directly into one-to-one, school and group-based mentoring, along with wraparound supports such as land-based programming and youth council initiatives.
“Just one hour a week with a caring mentor can change how a child sees themselves and their future,” Fryday said. “Mentorship is not about fixing problems—it is about showing up, listening and building a consistent relationship.”
Local businesses continue to anchor the fundraiser. Scotia Wealth Management, Woodley Care Services and the Power Workers Union have returned as major sponsors, helping cover tournament costs so more of every entry fee goes toward programming.
Registration is now open at greybruce.bigbrothersbigsisters.ca, where golfers can sign up a team, commit to sponsorship or make a direct donation.
“It is an unforgettable day of fun that directly benefits youth where you live,” Fryday said. “Every child deserves someone in their corner, and your swing can help make that happen.”
