[Music] Hello and welcome back to SGGT. Today, myself, James, and our hitter, Aaron, are going to have a mid-season review at a Callaway Elite Driver. So far, it’s been a great seller for us and really working well. So, we’re going to have a we look at why it works so well and who each head might work for. Um, James, what have we got to start with here? So, we’ve got the Callaway Elite. This is the core model. 9° of loft and we’ve got it set on standard neutral with a heavy weight at the back of the head there as well. Okay. Right in the middle. Let’s have a go. As neutral as it gets. This is dead neutral. Um, shaftwise, Ventus Black 5X. I’ve usual. This is my gamer, so it’s good to have a frame of reference. Right. Let’s have a whack. How does it look behind the ball? nice to be fair. Yeah, it’s um really quite flat to the ground, quite far back, stretched back. It’s all built around forgiveness. Yeah. Um it’s the core model, so it’s it’s kind of there is a more upright one. We’ll get into that, but um it’s kind of built on what AI Smoke was last year. Take the success of a good product and just try and squeeze a little bit more out of it, isn’t it? Yeah, definitely. Um who’s this? head suiting. James, what we’re seeing in fitting sessions, it it really it really fits everyone, it’s a really really versatile head. Um, what I find with this one, there’s a 13 g weight that’s at the back of the head. Um, and they launch a little bit higher than their loft boot suggests. So, if I’ve got a golfer who maybe kind of struggles to get the ball up in the air a little bit, there’s certain heads in the matrix that they just work. Um, and the the Callaway AI Smoke last year was definitely one of those. They launched a little bit higher than their loft would suggest. H but they don’t actually spin all that much either. Uh and I found Elite the sort of normal core head really to be the same sort of thing. It’s been brilliant to fit with. It allows us to kind of get a little bit higher launch without having to add loft. So you can exactly some ball speed on it. Exactly. And it’s been a success that way. Yeah. Good. Cheat code. What’s that phrase, James? Get in the air juice. That is a terrible strike. But that’s gone straightish. Just doesn’t really matter, does it? It’s done all right, isn’t it? 307 yards in the middle for a bad one. You take it. I’d kill for it. What I’ve always liked about the Callaway is when you’re framing the ball, they’ve got that little their chevron right on the top, right on the crown there. Um, just a nice way to frame the ball. Good shot. So, Callaway have had the same sort of neck adapter for years and years and years now. Um, it’s a formula that very much works. Um, so we can go down by one, up by one, and up by two degrees, and you can have it on a neutral lie angle setting or a little bit more upright liangle setting. So, as a fitter, it just pro it just gives us lots of lots of extra tools to go and play with. Yeah. That you can really dial that driver in. But like it’s a tool for us. It’s not necessarily a tool for the golfer to take back home again that all of us would need to footer about with your new golf club. We can then set that all up for you in the fitting as we’re in fittings and kind of post fitting if we do need to change it. It’s a dual cog. Yes. So you keep that SST shaft puring that we do and it stays in the same position all the time. So it’s it’s good that way as well. strike. Should we try Elite X James and see what it does in comparison? All right. Let’s give it a couple of goes. So, what I’ll let you change it first. So, what’s the story with this? What are we expecting to see? Elite to Elite X. What’s the difference going to be? So, the Elite X is a little bit more upright lie angle. Um, so this kind of on paper, this is this is like the draw bias driver. Okay, we’ve got a weight in the neutral position. So just exactly the same as normal elite, but we’ve also got a draw position and there’s no fade. Okay, so from a weight point of view, the weight’s going to be in the same place. It’s all in the back, but this lie angle is a bit more upright. So there’s going to be a little bit more draw bias kind of built in that way. Does that little weight saving allow them to make the back weight heavier, or is it the same weight? Same weight. Is it same? Same sort of 13 g. I’m learning as well. Behind the ball. Adam, how does it look? It looks like it’s a little bit more stretched out. Okay. So, a little bit further back in terms of of profile. Almost as if someone’s just stood on it a little bit more. Okay. Um, I’m not sure that’s what they do at Callaway, but it’s probably Is that not the technical term? It’s not quite a technical term here. and the in the R&D office someday a pair of size 10 same chevron on top it doesn’t look all that different on kind of looking down just maybe a little bit of a bigger footprint and who are we finding playing this head this year James H if a golfer struggles uh going a little bit too far right that kind of that more upright product it’s just a we bit easier to turn over um and then you’ve got the opportunity to put the weight in the heel as well. Yes, that’s it. So, we can we can put weight in the heel and we can make it a little bit more upright through the sleeve. Okay. All right. Let’s have a go. I’m not going to change how I swing. I’m just going to Yeah, you be you. That’s I’m just going to let it happen. Aaron’s going. Normal ball flight on the golf course is more to the left hand side. So, in any and every fitting we do, we talk about how can we eliminate the left. This one’s not quite going to be for you, but that was absolutely pumped. We want to talk about how good that was. Cheesy peeps. a no spin bomber sweet bits this morning. That was nice. Solid. I tell you what, it’s actually really impressive. Still remarkably quick, isn’t it? So, there’s no typically when you’re moving that weight back, you’re going to sacrifice a little bit of ball speed. Ball speed’s as high, if not higher. That’s more efficient, isn’t it? Yeah, it’s really good. That’s interesting. I’m impressed with this. Going to give it one more. Maybe launches and spins a hair high, but other than that, like it’s really really good. Oh, talked to me. Yeah, that that flipped on me. Okay. Do you feel like the previous two you’ve had to subconsciously try and hold it open a we bit potentially, but they were they were really good flights? Yeah, that one I maybe just kind of freed it up a little bit more, let it happen a little bit more. Okay. Um, and then my own tendencies have kind of compounded that issue. Yeah. I mean, just it feels as good though. So, James, triple diamond. What are we likely to see here? So, the triple diamond is a little bit flatter in terms of angle, there’s no fade weight as such. But because this is the polar opposite end of the of the Elite X, would expect this ball flight maybe to have a little bit more right initial bias. Okay. Um, there’s two weights in the head. So, Callie have had like a sub-zero head for really quite a long time. That’s evolved into triple diamond. So, we have a heavier weight at the back in this driver. It’s 9 g and we’ve got a little bit lighter weight at the front which is 4 g. So, if we want slightly less spin, we can move that heavier weight further forward. There almost looks like quite a lot of bulge and roll. I always feel when I look at this triple diamond driver. Yeah. and that it looks like it’s we’re not going to call it twist face because that’s a tailor made thing. But it looks like when you put it down behind the ball, especially in the toe, it looks like there’s so much loft. It gives off the impression it sits really open. Yeah. Um and I think when you actually measure the loft, there’s quite a lot of loft high in the toe, which that one that typically you might get a snap hook from. It almost guards against it. As I say, it’s not twist. That’s a tailor made thing. But it definitely gives off that impression that there’s been some thought went into it that way. Yeah. when we got these heads at the beginning of the season. You could have mentioned in a previous video that um you saw some you saw some some kind of hidden technology or you saw that kind of extra loft over in the toe, but Call of being a we bit tight lipped about this. It’s technology that’s kind of gone under the radar. Yeah, I I quite like personally looking at a driver with no loft and it gives me the impression that I’m going to try and hit up on it a little bit more and help it in the air. Whereas the Callaway, for me personally, I think it looks like it’s got quite a lot of loft on it. For somebody with your delivery, Adam, I think this could be amazing. Should we have a hit? Go for it. It does look sexy. There’s a different visual in this crown, isn’t it? It’s more It’s your gloss crown. Obviously, they’ve taken my we chevron away, but it looks You prefer gloss or matte? I prefer gloss. Likewise, James. Yeah, gloss. I prefer gloss. I’m glad they’ve done it with this almost as a little separation between the two the two models. They used to have it years ago. I think it was it was XR16 or XR and there was like an XR Tour that was like a gloss head. It was the Pro head. Yeah. I think an XR XR Pro and then there was like a I don’t know what they called it back in the day and it was the nicest head I think we’ve ever done. It looked amazing. Really? Smaller profile. I know what you mean with that. A little bit more loft on the toe. This is a 9 degree. Um we’ve we’ve measured this is 8.8. So, it’s really really close, but it it definitely looks like there’s a little bit more than that on it. It’s maybe worth after this getting James to go and measure this and see what it is. I know we get 8.8 through the middle and where you’re going to hit from, but be interesting to actually just get a loft on the toe and see what the difference is. So, strike itself wasn’t good. Not as forgiving. So, you can see the drop off in ball speed, but it’s also wanted to hold itself online. Yeah. rather than that left miss that you previously had. Call that a good bad one. It’s a very good bad one. I didn’t turn there at all. Sounded solid. Yeah, it was nice. It’s a It’s a noticeably straighter start line. What’s really interesting is how close the spin rates are between the three of them that you thought they would been further apart than they are. I think that’s kind of one of the things we’ve seen across the board with all with all these manufacturers now that you know the triple diamond or like the LS heads, they’ve all actually had a little bit more spin than we’ve had previously. And the core models, the spin has then ticked down the way and whatever the kind of draw or X models, they’ve all kind of ticked down the way a little bit at the same time. It’s just easier to close the face, isn’t it? If you got a more closed face at impact, it is it’s going to spin less. Yeah. So, that can be a part of it as well. That sounded amazing. That was pure. I know you’ve turned over a fraction, but that sounded so good. Yeah. Where is the weight in this, James? I know there’s heavy weights at the back of the head. So, this is in the in in the neutral setting. Should we flip those weights around, Darren? And then see if how much spin we can kill. Can we can we make it low spinning? Let’s do it. Trackman lost spin on that last one there, but it was certainly a good hit. Ball speed pushing that 170 number. One of the things that we can that we can play about with here as well, SGGT is is hot melt. And so hot melt is like a glue material for the viewers at home that we can inject into the head. So if we want a very specific amount of weight in the heel or a little bit more in the toe for a bit more draw bias or a bit a bit more fade bias, um we’ve got opportunity to go that to go and do that and we can test that by using like lead tape. Um, so you’d never know it was under the hood, but it means that we can just dig in a little bit more. So for that golfer for maybe in the triple diamond and we just want an anti-left driver, we can then load a little bit more weight toe side. Now there isn’t there’s no weights in there that that could happen, but because we do all the building inhouse, we can make that happen internally. It’s just another little string to pull, isn’t it? Just more more tools and toolbox. So this is 9 g further forward. And let’s see if this changes spin for you jumpy. That was nice. Yeah, very good spin rate 22. So it it did have that desired effect of moving the weights. Now we’re talking. There’s the golf shot. Now we’re talking. That’s the exactly that shot you were talking about where it comes out the toe. You expect that to go that way. Yeah. And I might actually catch a fairway with that. Two and a half spin 15 a bit launch. So the launches went up on the basis that there’s more loft in that toe and the so because the launch went up it’s not the spins kind of stayed higher because there’s more loft in there. It’s not dived out the sky. That shot’s almost more impressive than the previous one, which it will. And as I say, it’s not something that they’ve marketed. Yeah. But it 100% does it. I wonder if there’s a patent there or Yeah. a marketing thing that they just don’t want to maybe a story to be told at some stage. What’s the story with your pinky? Just remember about stories. Uh I damaged the tendon in my pinky. So every shot is a posh shot. off the bottom. Yeah. But again, that’s still not going to seek it out, but you can definitely see like the bad one wants to go the right direction. Yeah. You can also see that low out the face in relation to the other heads, spin rate definitely jumps up massively. So there’s you’re a bit forgiving that we would speak about the drop off in ball speed, that spin rate popping up. Mhm. So there’s definitely you can see where the extra forgiveness comes from from the other heads, but the direction from this head and it’s picking your poison. Do you want the spin rate to be kind of more consistent or do you want the direction this head gives you? You don’t mind if it’s going to spin a little bit more if you’re going to hold the fairway. Yeah, totally. I think one of these one of one of sort of big differences with a triple diamond head over the core and over the X is the face is deeper. So it’s maybe a little bit easier to catch that one slightly low down. Why did they change it from subzero to triple diamond? I know the answer to that if you want. So it’s no it’s no longer it’s no longer sub zero. So sub zero was on the y axis. No it’s not it’s on the x axis. I should just said I tell Aaron sub zero heard the via you know something that James doesn’t love it. Go for it to shine. The reason it was called subzero is if you turn it that way, the the center of gravity of the head was actually below the x-axis zero point. Okay? And so it was sitting a bit higher in the head when you turned it that way. Okay? So that’s why it was called sub-zero lower spinning. The triple diamonds now they’ve they’ve managed to play with the center of gravity so much that they don’t need that center of gravity to be that high. So see so sorry just before you keep going us golfers that don’t understand the technology. So with the old subzero, would you have had to hit it high out the face to get the benefit? there would have been a benefit in hitting it high in the face. Okay. Yeah. And Subzero was really designed to like properly kill spin as well. Yeah. So again, looking looking at these drivers, the the drivers that we had six and seven years ago, like the LS models, they were really designed to properly kill spin. So you could have those absolute rocket launcher drives, but you could also have those ones that went sideways really for no reason. Yeah. There was more volatility in there, wasn’t it? Yeah. Completely. There could be the bomb, but there could also be the the proper sideways blow up at the same time. So, the triple diamonds are more forgiving whilst keeping the spin. Yes. Nice and low. Okay. Set you up for failure there, sir, James. Sorry. That’s all right. Sounded more like it. Yeah. Beautiful golf shot. Like that shape. It’s nice to look down on. It gives me the direction, which is is the important part. It’s killed that spin as well, I think. Right, James? Just some numbers quickly. Um, we were looking at that triple diamond to start with. Yeah, the numbers weren’t necessarily bad. Ball speed 165 166 and changing the weights round. What we’ve done is we’ve managed to find a little bit more ball speed. Um, and ultimately killed spin by know what it’s as little as 300 RPMs, but it’s been enough to find you another seven yards through there and 10 yards in total. Flatten out that trajectory by kind of 9 ft. Um, so definitely worth kind of fine-tuning a little bit there as well for you. When you’re only when you’re talking about those, you’re only talking about 5 g, but that’s the impact it has. Yeah, it’s for something that seems so minimal. You’ve taken a driver that was good and made it really good. Um, so the Elite X that you were hitting really really nicely. Um, I quite like that. Which there a couple left which kind of killed spin. So the average number looks like it’s a little bit lower than it actually is. Um, yes, definitely. I think triple diamond from a directional standpoint. Yeah. And we got a dispersion there as well, James. Remember that. What’s really interesting here is triple diamond with a heavyweight forward. There was one you had to the right hand side, but the other two noticeably down the middle and the triple diamond standard with the weights where they were the blue circle pretty good. Um the standard elite um you can see it again wanted to go down the middle. There was one that dropped off that we’re probably a little bit unfair on numbers with. If that one was to come out again, it’s pretty good. And then you can see the Elite X in that yellow circle that it wants to favor that left hand side. Even the good one was down the left half and then you got the one that you turned over and then away it went. But really, really good. Yeah. Phenomenal. That triple diamond looks how I want a driver to look. Uh gloss crown, really clean. There’s you’ve got the little elite logo there, but I mean, if you’re looking at the top of the crown, you don’t even see it. So, that’s that looks the nicest um out of the three to my eye personally. So, really easy to see why it is one of the bestselling drivers in 2025 then. Yeah, it’s been so good for us this year. Yeah. Good. Brilliant. Well, thank you very much for your time, gents, and thank you very much to everybody for watching. And for more great content, please like and subscribe to the channel. Haven't watched yet, but it's worth the hype! Massive improvement in my driver since Aaron fit me for the Elyte in Diamana BB!
Great video guys- super stuff
Fantastic driver. Love the TRIPLE D. Great show guys.
Cheers !!!
I knew I should have got you guys autographs on Thursday. Though maybe not the guy wearing the hotpants! 😂
I love my elyte, I struggle with too much spin with but the elyte allows my to hit power fades with 2500 spin, my old sim 2 max would spin at at least 3500 with a similar shot
The triple diamond is an exceptionally forgiving driver for what it is. Add in the stock shaft of the mid launch mid spin Denali charcoal shaft, which is a Denali blue, and you have a weapon. There was for me virtually no difference between this and the Cobra DS Adapt X with Denali blue shaft other than the cost. If the TD is ever available at a significantly reduced price I don’t think I could stop myself from buying it lol Great video as always guys!!!
I play the core Elyte 9° down to 8° middle weight -1/D and love it. Using an Accra TZ RPG362 M5 114-115SS, -1 to +2° AoA & typically carry "only" 260-280y due to being a new at this.even with my AoA I get too cub soon 2800-3300 & my miss is a strong fade I don't get slices anymore but still fades too much. I want to go to the TD but afraid of the bigger fade potential as I'm not the ball striker he is! I tried the older Ai Smoke TD & couldn't get it to go right (I'm LH) just push fade or slice too often. Is the newer Etlte TD better? I hear that the new TD much more forgiving & less fade biased. Thanks guys love the channel.
Looking forward to my fitting Thursday.Consider yourself challenged to gain me distance and dispersion.Lets see what is best for me….
Aaron showing off again and demonstrating that with a proper fitting he could play any of these models 👌🏽 – Very surprised by the numbers from the X model. I had the Ai Smoke Max D and Aaron recently recommended a head change to the core Elyte to reduce my left miss. The results were instant and, quite frankly, have shocked me on the course in the first few weeks of playing it. Would definitely recommend trying the Elyte models for anyone in the market for a driver.
Would he be better off turned down to 8 degrees, 14 degrees seems high for launch no?
No Triple Diamond Max or Triple Diamond Tour Draw?
