Daniel Hillier speaks with the media following the second round at the Open Championship

Yeah, just here. Uh we’re here with Daniel Hillier uh Friday at the Open Championship at Royal Port Rush. Uh two over today, 73. Dan, what did you make of the conditions over the last two days? Yeah, tricky. Um I mean, I know it could be a heck of a lot worse. Um but yeah, just enough wind to make it uh you know, a bit of a grind out there and yeah, uh fought pretty hard the last couple of days. Hopefully it’s enough to see me through the weekend, but yeah, it’s going to be a long day waiting I think. Yeah, hovering right around the cut line at the moment, although it is uh predicted to get a little bit trickier out there. Um, how was it in the rain yesterday particularly because it did rain pretty hard and and how do you think that affected your play? Yeah, that was that was brutal. I mean, 10 minutes after we teed off, it just started pelting down. It was sideways rain for a little bit there. So, it wasn’t uh wasn’t the nicest introduction to the week, but um yeah, again, I I fought well through that stretch of holes. managed to get through it. Sort of one over I think and then um yeah made a couple of nice well made an eagle on 12 I think it was. So that was a nice little bounce back and then yeah just kept fighting the whole way. Yeah, it was a fantastic eagle there on the the 12th. Um and a bit of a tough um finish here today. Two bogeies in the last three holes. Although in saying that there’ll be a fair few bogeies at Calamity. Can you just paint a picture of what that hole’s like as a player and and what that T-shot looks like from your perspective and what’s sort of going through your mindset as you approach that shot? Yeah, it’s it’s tough enough as it is and I just didn’t have the right club for it. Um we had four iron and two iron in the bag and I needed a three iron. So just tried yeah hitting a four iron at about head height and you know you try and do that and it’s pretty easy to miss it right and that’s what I did. It’s pretty brutal T-shot. Um it was either that or hit two iron over the back and try and two putt from 80 feet. So yeah uh it’s pretty important that you have the right club. I mean definitely needed two iron more than three iron. It’s just that one shot was uh yeah, the one time I needed it and yeah, made made that hole pretty hard. Yeah. Well, look, as I said, you’d be far from the the first to make a a bogey on that hole and it was actually a good bogey save um in terms of that part to um close it out um in the finishing stretch there. What’s your plans for for the rest of the day um from here sort of waiting on the cut line? Yeah. Well, I’ll try not to look at it too much. Um yeah, got my fiance here, so that’s cool. I’ll hang out with her for the for the day and um yeah, we’ll just chill out and uh hopefully Yeah, I don’t know. Keep your fingers crossed and see what happens. Point of Guinness tonight. Might have to be. Awesome. Guinness. You You got to do it. Thanks. Have a great day. It’s so nice.
