#NHL

Conor McDavid playing on the same
team for Canada for the first time,   but they start on separate lines. Crosby is on
the ice. Victor Edmond is on as well tonight. The first of seven games over nine days, the first
four here in Montreal. The final three, including a championship game at TD Garden in Boston.
It is a fast tournament in duration. We expect a fast tournament on the ice as well. We have
seen the evolution of the NHL game since 2016. Now we will see the evolution of the international
game for the first time since 2016. It’s going to be full of enthusiasm right off the hop here. No
doubt about that. The line is McKinnon between Crosby and Stone with the normal pair of teams
and Mar of the Colorado Avalanche on the back end as Mik Zaban tries to clear the zone for
Sweden. Zabanachan, Raquel and William Knander on the ice. Jonas and Victor Edmond the starters
for Sweden. Stone can’t keep that bucket. pulled off the icing in Jordan. Pittington loves to
handle the puck. We’ll get his first touch   of the hockey game. Yeah, he’s very good both on
the forehand and on the back end. He can break up any bad defense by Sweden. And we’ve already got a
delayed minor penalty and it’s against Sweden. So, we’ll get a chance to look at this Canada power
play right off the bat. 44 seconds in a high sticking penalty against William Knander will
put out Canada’s number one unit on the ice for this Canada power play. City Crosby admitted he
said we have reminded each other that somebody   has to shoot the puck. Here’s McDavid down
to Crosby. They’ll go back again. Crosby from the goal line across and they score. McDavid to
Crosby to McKenna and it’s one nothing McKenna. Once he played it down, now you got a little
goal line to Ashard’s play and a spin around   the back hand pass. Holy jump. What a play that
is Crosby. We weren’t sure we can both he was going to be able to play. First shot of the game.
It is a Nathan McKinnon the NHL’s leader assists and points to play to cut through the net off
the ensuing face off at center ice break down. And now Reinhardt has out of the net and tries
to spin it to the stand. Reinhardt has a chance to along the wall heading out shot in front and
wide on the keep it. They set up for Reinhardt. He turns and shoots and Gustin makes a save.
Face off win deflected. Lock reach just wide of the Sweden net as Harson clears his own for
a goender for Gustin or any goalender. You’re not getting in any rhythm because there’s
nothing clean off the wings. One coming to the line for Kale Mar. He’ll walk it across
Deonte. It’s a wrist shot block for getting in the way. A to Mar. He’ll snap it to the net.
That one blocked by Headman. Pursuit is Anthony Carelli. His lightning teammate. Harbertson
by Macar angle there as well reconnecting and he’ll take it back out to the neutral zone will
make a change while they can get Brad Marsh and on the ice as Tes over for connecting loaded
out of the zone club down by Forsber Forsber and the Astro Predators high in the air
club down by Taves clears the zone for put it right back through the Canada bench they
wave off the icing as a result. Blue takers taking fourth stuck there in the Canada corner. Try to freight up hiding the ledge of the
boards all the way around for Rashley. A lane for that shot blocked by Porco releases
down the boards. Jarvis couldn’t knock it by him. Kempy was there to follow it up.
Jarvis trying to spring Marian at home   gloves it down. Sweden trying to make
a push but Marian with the cut. Cut off and now some room here for Marian with
everybody else changing. That’s a good   high jump around right there on the glass. C.
No chance he could go to the net to get that. Here’s Derek Carlson. Clean exit there for
team Sweden McKinnon to Crosby and a loose puck in the neutral zone. Stone got there with
Eric Carlson. Now it’s Shane Theodore coming   to go. Theodore down the wall. Crosby at it. Now
it’s Carlson. Interesting mix there with Crosby. McKinnon have it. Big Mark Stone on that right
side. Obviously not the fastest guy, but man,   he’s diligent stealing pucks and good stick. And
he’ll go retrieve for those boys. John Cooper said he likes him with McKinnon because Michael
plays a similar game. Here’s Reinhardt to Warner   to McKinnon and just skip. Got a little bit of
air underneath it. Reinhardt after it shoved down by Juel Erikson. That pass intercepted by
McDavid. McDavid with a little space to the slot from a car and a good check there by Pratt to get
a stick on it. Ravine’s pass getting through for Raymond. Flipped on for Jper Pratt. Watch by
Mar. Rat shoved down to his knees by Mar. Puck goes out of the zone. Forsling rimmed around
behind Bennington. It’s coming to Hegel. And now Dene takes over but lost it to McDavid trying
to one-hand it around. Penderson couldn’t pick it   up on the other side. So Conor McDavid has waited
a long time to get on the ice in an international tournament in a best on best for team Canada.
Well, I can tell you his gas tank is full. It’s full. He’s on it. That one played down
by a high stick. Instant chemistry. Yeah, in a short tournament, everybody is looking for
chemistry, looking for flying combinations from   deep pairs. Uh, not this one. Canada has it built
in, but top deep pairs in the NHL with Colorado Avalanche. Lines been waved off that icing
because of a car pitching in there on Arvinson. Crosby will tap it in and send Stone to get it.
Stone had a tough time getting around Ras Stain.   That’ll offset top the puck ahead. Nike was pass
cut off by Theodore then thrown in the rest of the way. A lot of guys that would normally wear number
14 for Sweden. Not wearing their normal numbers. So Joel Eric goes to 17. Just Nyquis goes 12. This
one off the glass intended for Hegel. Heel trying to get wide on Eric Carlson. Those two tangle up
allowing Eko to get the puck. Coming up on the halfway point of this lightning fast first period.
Sideestep there by our Carlson. His pass across. Skated into by Philip Forsber. Forsber will tuck
behind the net on the backhand. Forsber leaves it off for Carlson. Sent around. Penderson couldn’t
reach it. Ehol pinches in. Puck gets by him and Kempy out at center. Eric Carlson surrounded by
Canadians. Acne will back it off for Theodore. They open it up for Drew Downey. There’s no
guy worked harder to get here than Drew Dowy,   who missed almost this entire regular season in
the NHL. First 47 games after breaking his left ankle in the preseason. Got back in time to play
six games before the break and take that spot of Alexow to be here in this room. A lot of lonely
days having an injury like that. Mostly alone with your training staff doing the same thing day
after day. Here’s taken away by Braden Point. Point moves it on for Marian. He’ll enter the
zone. Marian between his skates picks it up on the other side of Headman. Loft the puck behind
the net and now Lucas Raymond has a chance. Card for Kell. It’s Penguins close that one in.
Take place of William Carlson. You know, Ber, one thing I’ve really noticed here at ice level
is the communication. It is sharp. right winger off the ice yelling for the right center for that
penalty on the opening shift and you’re down one   nothing before you even realize there’s a game
that’s going on. Yeah, I mean for that there’s no doubt and I I think it even strikes you makes
a good point. Just make a play. You’re all good   hockey players. Maybe you’re not as fast as the
top end players of Canada. But settle it down. Take the game. Must went for the back door for
Erikson that got through them and takes a Canada bounce all the way out to center. That’s another
no sustained pressure so far. Canadians are doing   a great job of getting the puck out of their zone
quickly. Sweden has not tested Jordan Bennington whatsoever so far in this game. The Osman draft
game sports book at the top of the screen. The   shots are 5 nothing Canada. The attempts are 143
in Canada’s favor. The only goal, the power play goal from McKinnon, 56 mark. Another example of
a bad placement on the dump. Fington plays it easily. Try hard to maven. McDavid curls. needs
Dowy. Opens it up for Theodore with a wrist shot. This pass Mitch Mner trying to bump that one
in. Then Dowy shot at the skate of Martner.   Comes around for McDavid. Now Reinhardt will
keep it moving. Mner after it. Arbitson cut him off. Victor Arvinson off the glove of
Lynholm. Nike was trying to fish it through. Theodore was in his way. That’s a good step up
though in the neutral zone by Dowy on Lynholm. Dowy puts it into the corner. Celli ties up with
Broaddin gets help from Hegel. Two Lightning players stick together on this line for John
Cooper as that puck ricochets to the goal. Well,   Canada has won the last three and nine of the
previous 13 best on best tournaments. Four Canada Cups, three Olympics, two World Cups
in hockey. And it’s a round rob tournament. They’ll play Sweden, the US, and Finland. And
the beats the best records will advance to a championship game twoonone. And they make
it look easy. Brad Marsh. Two nothing. Can the play right here gets picked off. Good play
in the neutral zone. You can see big Golden Poco   with that. Grace banks it off the boards. Jarvis
with a perfect pass after headman kind of poaches a little bit. And now you got your twoon-one
break. Look at point with his head up. Head up   all the way. Rodin slides over to him and in that
point there I’d like from a goalie’s point of view leave the shooter to the goalender and make sure
the back door play is shut down. There’s no chance   for Gus right there on that twoon one break for
you covered down there protected over the with that hit there. But I I would have to think that
the the angst at the edge of the of the Swedes not   typically their game but they’re going to have to
find something uncomfortable to get them into this game. Sam Holl said, you know, Swedish hockey is
normally team first, defense first, but he wanted to see his team play aggressive, play as that
fiveman unit. Right now they’re on their heels with the attack of team Canada. So far, what I
see is is the speed factor. Here’s Pratt. He has some man and echol to the net and the pass broken
up by Sam Reinhardt. The forward playing Dean. He made it looked like he’s done that a time or two.
Ecom to get it. takes a bump there from Mner. Theodore in between Patterson tapped out coming
in moving for Forsling Forsling. A wrist shot the first real test of Jordan Bennington. That’s the
kind of shot that Bennington hasn’t faced in two days here. John Cooper relayed a story to us this
morning talking about how players were impressed with each other of how hard they were shooting
the puck in practice. Knander tries to send that one out to the blue line. stopped on the way. He
landed his Spanish. Bring wide feed. Eric Carlson shot to the front. Tipped up in the air. Played
away by Pareo. When Forsber stops right there,   he’s got the ability to tip that one, but he
flew by the the pass attempt by Carlson. Philip Forsber. He’s in alone. Crosby back check. Takes
it off the stick. Sends it to Big Colton Pinko. Fired all the way around the net. Right to Hegel.
He’s fresh off the bench. checks to make sure he’s on side will continue his pursuit and Rod the puck
over comes as well to Nyquist pushes down the ice those two forwards they know how to play off of
one another and Hegel good check right there you know Canada takes a penalty they’re killing as
well [Music] skates to stick Harbertson got a tip so there’s no icing Pennington about to handle
the puck Vontes elevates it through the neutral zone. Bagel racing after with protein tie up on
the puck to get to Celli Delar to the net and he had it up. Mark connect in front. The puck didn’t
get there. Lynholm cut it off. Now it’s Nyquis   down the lane. Kicks it over. Dene the tow track
and lost it. Look out Marian’s behind the knee. The alley pass and he can’t recover it. Nice idea
though. Ericette along for Brad and it was cut off by Jarvis who got popped. Never saw Eric coming
at him. Big fell plays for the Minnesota Wild right through. Edmond had to play that one off
the board. Some left-hander playing right deep. He adjusts in the middle of the ice. Walks in,
fires one just past the net on the stick side of   Bennington. Raymond the Redwing now forsling.
shot scooped up off the ice by the glove hand of Bington. He will believe if Knander will take
it. Knander tied up. He headed pass for Forsling. Quickly on him was Marner and Cole Pico jumps on
the loose puck. The nod right there. Headman’s pass that wasn’t on the mark. It didn’t allow
Forsling to take a one-time. It was kind of caught   up in his feet. This one popped out for Barner.
Goes to McDavid. The drag and he can’t finish it. got popped as he tried to go to the backando.
Give it off to McDavid who’s back on his feet. Push the pass through for Josh Moresy. Jed down
by Reinhardt but wide. McDavid can’t keep it in. Warner backpedaling under pressure from his
Maple Leaf teammate Knander. Swings it around the net. McDavid working on Force Lake wipes
out behind the goal. back home for Lake are out to center inside two minutes to play here
in the first period. A two nothing lead for   Canada. McKinnon on the power play in the opening
minute. Brad Marsh point of Seth Jarvis at 1315. Eric Carlson long feet for Forsber jumped
over his stick and Kale Maring out through the neutral zone trying to make pass
to Crosby. Stolen away by Adrien Kempe. Cole will crank it around the net of Bennington.
Down by Mar. Players bunch up behind the net as it squirts free. Mar has some room. Mar fires
it over. Crosby receive that pass behind his back and then tried to dump it in. Hit the skate
to the linesman. Elas Patterson has some time.   Gives us an opportunity to tell you that Gourd
Dwire and Chris Rooney are the referees in our game tonight. Scott Cherry, Brian Daisy serving
as the lines. in the first period. Den’s pass across. Lynholm will finish the dump in inside
of a minute to go. Jonas Broaddin for Dalene. That one angled towards Bennington. Put
the pad down on it. Downy for Theodore. And right up the gut and Dene spotted it
off his stick. 30 seconds left. will make some changes. Canada will follow
suit while they have the chance. Dolli for Raymond Raymond risks a shot into the
glove of Bington. 2016 World Cup of Hockey. This one is just launched down the ice by Pareo. 10
seconds to go. Lucas Raymond his pass Erikson with five. Get it through to the front. Play back
to the corner. Erikson to crack. 2 seconds and one coming around for Headman and his pass will
put him into the intermission as Carlson didn’t hear the siren in time and apologized as soon as
he let that weak shot go. You know, hey, look, if you can’t play, then uh this is this is the
next best thing. And um and I don’t think I’m a very good coach. So, uh so, uh yeah. No, this is
a big honor. Hey, Billy, you’ve known uh you’ve known Mario for a long time. What do you think
of that emotional response? He looked like John   Hobo out there. I mean, well, that’s what he’s
like, you know, he’s he’s one of the classiest humans you could ever meet. And uh just the
the player that he was and like, you know, you look at guys, him and Wayne, and like
these great players and they’re so humble and   uh Mario’s just he’s just the best. I love playing
for his uh for for his team in Pittsburgh and he’s just a he’s a good friend and he’s a great
guy. Pretty good player, too. I I guess he was, huh? You know what? If I let him score a couple
on me. I You know what, Panger? I knew that. I saw   that. You let a lot of guys score a couple on you.
He’s a very generous person. If I would have stuck around longer, you would have had a bit, too. Is
any anything surprised you about your squad? Hang on for a second, Billy. Conor McDavid will test
in there. Anything surprise you about? You know, we saw pictures come out from you guys getting
together at the start of this week and you bring   in Mike Ladon, you bring in Michael and you
bring in Deontro to be part of this team USA. What’s it been like trying to build a culture with
these guys in such a short period of time? Yeah,   we have Robbie Mlanahan in also. So, two
guys from the 1980 team, uh, you know, Mike who’s who’s uh the highest scoring
American player ever and then Matthew and Johnny’s dad was a wonderful guy. Um, you know,
I I felt it was just important for guys to, you know, get a chance to meet some of the
guys who kind of laid the path down for,   you know, this is the this is the best group of
players US has put together. Um, but you know, people come before you and and kind of pave the
way and I thought it was important to connect with   generations. Well, with that, Billy, it’s a nice
save there by Jordan Pennington. We appreciate you just spending a few minutes with us and
really look forward to seeing team with him   tomorrow night. Yeah, me too. Thanks for having
me on. Yeah, thanks Billy. Good luck. Thanks. Seeing Mike Richtor, too, man.
One of my all-time favorites. It gets loud in here regularly. It’s a very
engaged crowd for a Tuesday game for the Montreal Canadians. But boy, when Mario Lemieux came down
that tunnel, it hit another level. [Music] Rodino put it off into the corner. Sweden going for a
wholesale change while Colton Franco collects the   puck for team Canada. Vontaves quickly pass from
Stone to Crosby on the entry cutting cross Nathan McKinnon NHL’s point leader looking for a shot to
the net. It was stopped by Gustoson fired ahead from Eric to Raymond. Dave stepped up to the blue
line and threw the play offside. Two practices for this first game. the morning’s heat as well this
morning, but US and Finley get to have an extra practice before they make their tournament debut
tomorrow night. And look, here’s Raymond cutting through on the backand and Bington fights it
off and sliding into the net inadvertently was Anthony Cerelli. Yeah, no doubt about that.
He’s had a couple of disappointing moments,   you know, in Boston and Crowd City, but losing
game seven and 19 to the Blues, losing, you know, in game seven to to Toronto with winning last
year with Costa’s brilliant goal and these are big moment games and he wants to be in the mix. He
wants to be relevant and the clinching goal in the 2016 World Cup of hockey led that tournament with
five goals. He’s got one already here in his four nations faceoff debut. Conor McDavid in the front
for Reinhardt and got through him by Raymond. The way McDavid just cut him off. He just cuts that
ice in half like no other. Doesn’t have to be   physical. Just pushes Raymond who doesn’t even
expect him to be there. There’s no place for Raymond to go on that play. McKinnon to Mner and
Mner will shoot it in. McKinnon and Crosby after this. Now joined by their winger Mark Stone.
McKinnon to Stone. Here’s Stone off the cup of the glove of Gustoson. Meanwhile, Crosby has to
pick himself out of the Swedish net. Taves pinched in and can’t come up with it. Here’s Lynholm and
Arvinson. Arvinson along the boards to a trailer   and Taves got back to get a stick on it and
stopped the pass from getting through for Headman. That’s a heck of a save by Gusson right there.
That was labeled high glove short side by the long stick of Mark Stone. Seven saves so far for Jordan
Bennington. Seven and a half gone by here in the second. Goals for Canada coming in the first. Chan
tips it in. No icing. Custoen for Kempy. His pass redirect comes to Drew Down. He fresh out of the
ice. Yeah, still no shape. Dodor in case you just joined us. Injured about 6 minutes ago. White got
upended and now Forsber with some speed working on Downey. Philip Forsber backhand of the [ __ ] It
was in the skates of Jarvis. Kept it from Kempy.   Forsber all the way around the zone with the puck
again. Stray away with a shot. Too many bodies in front. Dene won’t keep it moving. Lee Penderson
lay down low. Jump to the far side. Raen Point up with it. Moved along into the skates of Jarvis.
He goes chopping at it with Forsling. Now Forsling separates him from the puck. Time here for Person.
Both teams make changes. Person will bounce this one towards Bennington and he will make sure guys
they’ve got good hands. But no match for McDavid.   McKinnon even pointing. Celliander came in and won
that face off as Sweden tries to get set up in the offensive zone. But Kney kicks it ahead for Celli
off the boards around at Cole. Anthony Celli after it, but it’s Carlson takes the puck and paid the
price for it as he’s knocked to the ice by Hegel. There was wonder from some people, Banger, if
we would see the physicality in a tournament like this. I think we’ve gotten our answer
here in just about half of a hockey game that   these players are willing to put their body
on the line on it. Y the big game for Sweden in terms of national interest is going
to be Saturday afternoon against Finland   afternoon here. It’s going to be prime time
700 p.m. start in Sweden, 8:00 p.m. start in Finland who get together on Saturday. And they
don’t like each other very well. They don’t. Here’s Raymond out for Headman. Drags it
for Broaddin. Broaddin with a shot and he scores. Jonas Broaddin over the glove hand of
Pennington. And Sweden is back within a goal. Oh, that had to have caught Bennington off guard right
there. He’s been good and solid on his angles, which has been What a play by Raymond to push
Dowy off the puck and then play it to the point.   This pass by Headman was off the mark a little
bit. Oh, there’s a moving screen right there. I think it was Raquel. Keep your eye on
67 out of passing right there. And yes, and it actually goes right in the middle of
the net. Thanks to Sean Cooper in that push   here for Sweden. They’re out shooting Canada.
74 here in the second period. Shots are almost even after what was a lopsided start to
this hockey game for team Canada. Yeah,   I like the way he answered that. I mean, what you
don’t think they’re going to come back, you know, pretty good team over there. Was funny. was a
similar response to what Sam Allen said as Vanad and Trump’s soft cleared away by Taves. Allen
was asked about the Canada power play and all the firepower that they were able to put out there
and he said to the media he said look at my roster who’s got some players too. Raquel for Knander
coming in with a shot that was defended by Mar Cooper mentioned still no Shay Theodore for team
Canada pass out for Headman right side Carlson wrist shot slowed up by Mner McDavid trying to
clear Carlson kept it alive squirt out of the zone you know I like what’s I like what head coach Sam
Halen said about Henman and Carlson they’re best   friends and when Henman talks everyone listens
when Carlson talks he talks talks and talks Look at those guys acting like 18y olds again
when they’re put in the same locker room. Jarvis tries to maneuver that one through from Marsh
and it’s time too many men on the ice. Yeah, but not at all. He was good good conversation and
communication with the Canadian bench. [Music] Eckle bounced the pass through for Victor
Arbitson. Harbertson’s pass never made it   to Lynholo using that long reach. Cleared out
by Braden Point. He took a hit from Marvinson and then Ekle got rid of it just before
Jarvis got there. Reno sweeps it towards Braden Point. Tapped ahead and Hegel throw
it in. 12 minutes gone in the period. Yeah, what an adjustment Sweden made. They’re
making a lot better passes in their own   dome. Long stretch pass them off the
boards to stretch out the Canadians. Knei fires it across the ice. Forsling takes
a hit from Hegel. A grab by Celli. His pass for Mars was shot blocked by Forsber. And
then Forsber able to force it to center ice. Some tense moments in Vegas right now
as Shay Theodore still in the dressing   room. 14 Canada. Jackie working the old
Montreal Gazette here. Good work, Jackie. Moresy around for Dowy and then Stone. And here
is McKinnon picking up speed. Nathan McKinnon opens up along the wall. Fires a pass through is
in the skates of Stone. He fights through for a   backhand Gustoson and kept out by Dene. They blow
it down because the net came off. It was close, but Dene stopped it. Pulls up right
here, but Doll’s in good position   right there. Now the puck across. Watch
the right side of your screen there. And uh clearly it does not go in the net, but
it was a hot potato there. Good miss by the Buffalo Saber. And obviously McKinnon’s weight
pushed into the net to knock the Morins off. A careerhigh in goals for Colton Porco. He’s got
12 of them as Knander’s pass blown up. And now Ricard Raquel danced his way through. tried
to slip it for kneelander on the back door.   Macar took what looked like a stick up high. No
call coming. Puck blocked down and they spring Cindy Crosby. Headman trying to catch him.
Crosby’s wrist are off the glass. McKinnon, put some pressure on. They work to Crosby in
front and headman makes the defensive play   again around the wall. It’s coming foro pin
inched in pass by him and now headman another dink up there like the top lip there of Kale Maris
a little watery little stun there from that play this puck into the can zone with six minutes to
go in the period around towards Brad Marshan had it lost it right to Person off the outside of the
post. Right point taken by for Morrisy and Maringo trying to win it back. See Carlson pitched in and
Marshian has a moment. The alley play to Jarvis. Cut off by Forsber. Eric Carlson over the line.
Moves to the right side. Heads up Kempe who will curl off. Kemp to Carlson. Rink wide for Person.
set up for Keep with a Rocket to fill the glass. Carlson right back behind the net. For leaned
on by Morrisy point Marshall flip it out to center. Carlson’s pass on the dump. Bennington
out the handle. Conor McDavid had it, lost it, got it back. Morsy helped it away from the goal
mount. Here’s Harbertson. His shot blocker down by Bennington. Scramble for the pocket. Now Dene
Forsling loads it up. Doesn’t shoot. Makes the pass. One timer and Bennington just got there.
Arbitson didn’t get a whole lot on that shot. No,   he didn’t. Roll off the blade. Might have hit
the side of the net. McDavid. The dump in. Reinhardt on the for check. This one coming
around towards Devonte. Harman’s pass across the ice. Forsling will skate into it. Quick
to pick him up on the entry. Caves up the wall for Reinhardt. Didn’t make it there. Erikson
around for Victor Arbertson. Edmonton Oilers pass out to Headmond. Came out of the zone. Sweden
will have to clear and give Canada a moment. Brontes away behind the net. Canada finishes their change to Hegel.
Now it’s gi out of his race. Catches up to it though and head down for
Ericson Brown trying to get back involved here for Canada. Sweden is
making their push here in the second. Jasper Brat put it down low. Mar back
out of the ice taken down by Carlson is able to play his way to Moresy. Morsy
to Celli in over the line. Serelli across   for Hangle to the front for Morrisy. Kicked
out by Gustoson. Connectney tied up on the loose puck. Now it’s Raymond. Erikson and
Carlson. Lucas Raymond snaps a shot and Bennington sprays it off to the boards.
Right there at Carlson though walking in,   fires high and wide. Boy, that had some heat
on it. And things have changed. Intensity level of the Swedish bench for sure. And
a couple of good saves by Guson, too.   Let Mark Stone say that happened at 200 and Sweden
scored shortly after that. Back home shoots it in. Raquel throws the body check on Taves. Comes
away with the puck. Raquel Pittsburgh Penguin trapped there by Taves. Trying to kick that one
to Zanach. Instead, it’s the other Penguin Crosby   that it’s lost by Barco. Turned over and Stone
sends Crosby on the right wing. McKinnon heading to the goal as well. Crosby defensive and they
score. Crosby held off. Forsling sets up stone in most. Hardly any curve whatsoever. And here he
goes barreling down the right side. Watch the way he pushes Forsling there. Spins around and somehow
threads the needle to number 61 Stone right here. With all this pressure, how the heck does he find
this one and put it right on the blade? Knander   was the closest to Stone, but not close enough.
And what a shot by Mark Stone of the Vegas Golden Knights right there. 49 points on the season for
Stone. He had that chance going high glove on Gusen that Gusson robbed him with tournaments that
he has participated in and he scores the third one tonight for Canada and restores the two goal lead
after the push from Sweden. comes late here in period two. Jarvis enters the passing sweeping to
the jet. Marian can’t get it and then it’s got the lead for Kempy. Mard quickly on him. Great points
up for Mard. Stripped away by Elas Patterson. Ian Forsber coming in. Patterson on the back hand
turns and waits a little contact there as Bington trying to fight through it with Forsber. Eric
Carlson shot blocked by Braden point. Earl across for Ecom lines, watch boxed by Jarvis. Ehol all
the way around the net. Threw it right through the top of the crease and deflected to the boards. Ras
Lholm’s pass off the wall. Back home to Carlson. Carlson. Wait, shoot. Spinning laying down and
he’s got it underneath him. Took a jab there from Philip Forsber that the Canadians didn’t like in
North Dakota. What a team that was. He’s won it all and he continues to rack up one of the games
alltime great resumes not only in the NHL where he’s certainly got 600 goals, 1,000 points, and
1600 points all this season, but his international resume as well as good as it gets. There’s coming
up on a minute to go and period and two. Martles over David around the boards for Morsy. Morsy to
the slot and jumps off the stick of Reinhardt. Reinhardt for Martner. Round the goal. Comes to
Morsy. 45 seconds left. Tried to slip that one through for Reinhardt. Philip Forsber off the
boards for Carlson. Eric Carlson full speed. the brakes on. Got jammed up there by Taves. Now
it’s a banned Chad and off to McDavid stick and almost to his own net. Yeah, it looked like
Vincent wanted to use that paddle down to   intercept that play, but it looked like it hopped
over and you’re right. McDavid right there on the doorstep. Eric with 18 will pick it up behind
his own goal. Back home takeaway with it now. 8 seconds to work with. McKinnon tapes as the
three Avalanche touch the puck. Long feet ahead gets through stone. Timing is the issue here and
they do blow it down as the clock hits all zeros. Communication and then bang at late goal. That
shot knocked down trips wide to the net as we see the odds from Trafficking Sports Book at the
top of the screen. This one goes high in the air   and it lands down for Stone. Took a hit from
Edmond. Knander keeps it away from McKinnon. That’s a two high flip outs by Team Canada right
off the hop in this period. Spanish beats out an ice keeps it moving for Headman. Victor Hedmond’s
wrist shot through a lot of traffic wide of the   net. Rodine met there by Reinhardt. Vontaves
leading Canadian defenseman in time on ice after two periods. Plays it around. No shade.
Theodore will not return to this game. He left early on in period two. Puck stolen away by
Conor McDavid. McDavid for Pereo who let it fly. He got through and a save made to a,000 points
and Conor McDavid 659 games earlier this year. Gretky, Mario, and Mosy. One of my favorite goal scorers of all time. The
best. This one deflected right through the crease. Cleaned up by Forsling. Oh, great support there
by Martner. backing up. Pull him. Prico is kind of a filling out right there, but not in a great
defensive position. Erikson X separated from the puck by Foro. Morrisy comes in. Puck up in the
air. McDavid battling with Adrien Kemp. And Kney puts it out in front and Hegel and Erikson or
Carlson I should say in a foot race. Carlson won the race. Heel gave him some problems but able
to get out of the zone. Carlson empty little move sends Kempe straight away and he scores.
Adrien Kempe puts it right through Bennington and Sweden is back within a goal. That’s amazing
shot right there. We’ve seen him time and time again. He’s got 25 goals on the year with the
LA Kings and he can flat out rip it right to   the top of the circles after this nice little
pass right there by Carlson. But now he’s got some speed and you can see Dowy ends up backing
in. There’s no pressure on on the forward Kempe and by the time he pulls it back into his feet
there and changes at the angle. This is a tough   one as a left hand shot going back to the blocker
side for any goalender. This is an excellent shot there by Kempe. Really an amazing number right
there. Low scoring great defensive team and that’s why they won the two cups. Normally
number nine, but Phil Wars gets the knock. Buck in the corner comes out for Knander. William
Knander across one timer from Dalene. Blocked by Reinhardt. Some guys only have one bucket
and he pushed it on Sam Reinhardt. Here’s Martner for McDavid. Knander took it away.
Forcelings pass cut off by Mard. I mean, Ryan Hart’s as conscientious on the defensive
side of the hockey as as any in the National   Hockey League. You can see why Paul head coach
of Florida says the two smartest players that he’s ever coached. Ronnie Francis and Sam
Reinhardt might have called him Paul. That’s my mistake. That’s his father the long NHL defense.
Played against him for a few years in the NHL board and out here. I only played a few years in
the NHL. Alone in front was connect but Ecom got just enough of that pass from Celli and Hegel
rimmed around right side. Dowy snapped to the net with a screen from Selli and a save from
Gustoson. Connectney had the clock tried to   drop it off and now it’s Erikson stopped by Dowy
punched through and now it’s Devon empty from Eric Carlson and Matias Echo at the 154 mark has
made it a onegoal game here in the third period. Each team will play three games
in this round ramen tournament.   A regulation win counts for three points. Two for an overtime win, one for an overtime
loss. The five minutes that we seen during the regular NHL season. Maybe a look at that.
Something that might be a precursor to changing NHL rules. A lot of people looking at that. I
can’t imagine that they’ll make it to 5 minutes, let alone 10 guys on the ice. Yep. They might
want to see what it looks like in a 10-minute   overtime. I’m not sure they’ll get there.
Lucas Raymond has gone to the dressing room for Sweden as Arbertson picks up this loose pocket.
Arbitson across for Headman. Edmond to the net. It got through everybody right through the top
of the crease. Arbitson Sam Hall said today is a guy that if somebody in the top six went down
was a guy he could easily slide up the lineup,   play in that spot. So without Raymond who’s
now coming right behind you Darren Bank right back onto the bench for Sweden have to make
any adjustments this one spun to the front   and Bennington fights off the drive from
Arvinson. Here’s Reinhardt for Martyr who dragged that skate to stay on side. Mar read
that play and his pass was cut off by Dalene Lhole right side with a wrist blocked by the
stick blade of Devon Taves. stays in play all the way around for Echol. Cartel had it back
to side and now Conor McDavid picking up speed inside out working on Echome. His teammate in
Edmonton turns the corner, wraps it in front.   Nobody home for Canada. He was trying to tuck
it. He lost it. The most important of them all is owned by your peers. 14 individual awards, 10
seasons. to speed his 10th in the national hockey around the boards. Can’t get it too cross. Somehow
with all the young talent on the ice and still perhaps the best player on the ice tonight for
team Canada sailing now the 37year-old Sydney Crosby in his 20th NHL season. two primary assists
on two of the three goals in Canada. You know, as fun as one yard for McConnet on the bench
with one of the coaches with John Cooper and and drawing something up with Sydney Crosby
on the bench. Remember they were together for the Stanley Cups talking the assistant
there. That was Hegel throwing a big hit on for this one bounces out from the slot.
Here is Hegel moving away from Spanish and   pick it up on the other side. He’s got his
partner Celli with him as he dumps it in. Raquel front pass on for Zabanagan in
full stride. A Zabanagan backand Relot. Carlson his wristster blocked by Moresy. Guard
Raquel run down the ice with Morrisy there. Now it’s Colton Baro looking for an exit. He’s going
to go the distance and it’s not online of the net. So they just the other day named rookie of the
year award QMJHL against Crosby. They go back door and they score. Jasper Brown sets up Juel Erikson
in Sweden has come back to tie it. Left pad back over. It’s a faceoff win but it’s supported by
Raymond right there off the face off and then he fakes the shot. Everyone’s thinking Raymond’s
going to shoot the puck, but instead he fakes   it. He goes over to Brad and Brad then moves it
across through Paro and what a flipper that is by Erikson and he points right over there to to
Brad. And this is an all round really good play by Sweden. Daniel Alfredson who’s now on the bench
as an assistant coach here for team Sweden. Who remembers the first game in Salt Lake City in 2002
where Sweden pulled out the old torpedo system and they railroaded Canada by a score of 5-2 and they
eventually won the gold medal first in 50 years. Here’s Knander opens up with a shot and a blocker
save from Bennington. Mark Stone quick pass. Heaggel had it lost it stays on it though. Heel
for Celli and Canada enters running a go wide on Forsling sets up a car on the back end has save
made by Gustoson in the role of spoiler. They have to play Canada in Canada and they have to play the
US in the US. Midland has to do neither. That’s a little adversity. Yeah. How you like going against
everybody brings out the best in you. Yeah. Well, they have risen to the challenge here after
a disastrous start and down two nothing. They   have come back with two in the third to tie it
at three. FB and Ericson the goals here in the third. Jonas Green has one in the second.
Conor McDavid closing in with a pass on to   Devont Dave. Echo off the wall. Grabbed by her.
Stumbled, stays on his feet, sets up McDavid. Oh, what a save from Gustoson. Devon Tas had an open
net and Gustiffson with an incredible stop. Tas had two good chances here in the third period.
That’s the best of the game for either team.   What a save that is. That was a sure goal that
Gustson denied in a tie score in the third period. And those lateral plays are so hard. We’ve seen
the twoon ones. We’ve seen the impossible goals that no chance for Gus to save. in this one here.
He makes the adjustment and he gets across Edmond Sha ramps up off the glass. Now Ricard Raquel
centering featuring get the stick on it. Yeah, great edge work there and I love seeing his
goalie partner lemark right here hammering   the blocker against the boards in support of
that great save offside against Sweden. These are just so difficult to make it with all his
skill level. a long pass and then to the slot   and you can see Devonte slides in from the point
position. Good instincts from him. Just a better save. Just a brilliant save with the blocker.
Focus on the stick hand right there. Ran right into his old man and for who takes the puck
and there was a I’m not sure how close that interference play was. I’m Sweden really wanted
to call against Canada and then sure enough boy that goes in the net. Look out. We would have
had a rockous group here to my left. Great point taking Carlson wide. Point to Marian. It’s there
from the car and tipped away from the net. Back hand from Marian. Didn’t have the angle of Canada
really sliding in there. Uncontested right in the high slot both times. Penalty here. High stick. He
caught Juel Erikson up high. They check for damage and the duration on it. Power plays presented by
Tylander sets it up on the goal line. Raymond to headman and back again. Raymond to the goal line.
The pass tucked in by Macar. He headman will go to it. Heman around is a managed and then Raymond
into the corner. Reach back forward a couple of times. Makes the pass. Raymond head right side.
Knander. Kneelander to Raymond. Tapped out.   Heaven and Serelli got enough of it. For the
Swedes on the ice would be William Knander who has eight of them. Trying to take the puck from him.
Comes out to Headman. Headman around for Erikson. Most power play point this season by a Sweet as
Lucas Raymond with 26. Puck’s now his trapped up by Hegel. Hegel comes away with it and back hands
it down the ice. Great play by able to get on that backhander and hoist it on that line like
that. It’s a good shift for Hegel and Serelli. Second unit out now for both sides. Halfway
through the power play. Carlson flying. Carlson shoots in out of the Bington set
up for Kelly and it’s dragged ahead by Marty. He’s got Marsh and Mar’s coming too.
Threeon two short-handed Kar off the glass. Now comes the hustle back for team
Canada, but Forsber won’t push the pace. Carlson Winder there by Canada. A little frustrated
for Sweden. One real chance on that play.   That was like Carlson on the rush short side and
they got his below one. 20 seconds left on the Swedish power play. Carlson across the ice. Pratt
down low from Person. Person and Jesper Brat and getting a stick on that is Jarvis trying to pick
it up and Carlson plays it away from coming Seth Jarvis. Good stick. Good read Jarvis and the
fans loving it here in Montreal. And kills off the high sticking penalty to Mory with a tie
score in the third. And Kempy puts it on goal.   Rebound. Lhole tried to slide it through the
slot. Reinhardt to McDavid and it’s Reinhardt. What a smart play. Just points it over. Everybody
go chase it yourself. Reinhardt put back together with McDavid. They played together 2015 World
Junior Championship as this shot goes up and out of play. Been well done. Fantastic work by
the NHL and the NHL PA players. It’s just great to have best on best international hockey back
on the calendar now for the foreseeable future. Coco hits the red line, dumps it down behind
Gustin first on McKinnon on him with a fly by. Couldn’t come up with the puck. Now Raymond lost
it and he gets it back. Pass those off the skate of Pratt and Montaves pulls it out of the pile.
Good communication by Downey. He called for that   puck the whole way. Taves looked like he might
be in a little bit of trouble with it. Dowy rims it around. Eric Carlson flips it out to center.
Taves waiting for it to drop over his shoulder. Feel a little odd seeing Dowy at number 89. Yeah.
Tapped in late add to the roster. Kelvin Carr had eight locked up. So he goes with his birth year.
Love down by Taves. Braden Point out near the blue line. kicked out of the zone by Savanich that
point stick work from Kempy and then turn it over right in front of the Canada bench but they
can’t do anything with it. [Music] Two and a half remaining here in the third. Mner for McDavid.
Conor McDavid taking it wide. Bump down low. Mner’s passing to skate. Edmond played it behind.
Now it’s Reinhardt for Morrisy with a shot tipped off to the corner. The car slides in down the
wall. trimmed around towards Reinhardt. McDavid will come to it. Edmond in his hip pocket. McDavid
cycles again for Mitch Mner. Mner to Reinhardt. Wrapped up by Broaddin. Kicks it free. Mner gets
top side. Jam play and Reinhardt shovels it on. Goaling. Faceoff win by Lynholm. Canada’s had
the edge in faceoffs tonight. Not there though as Brack sends it out of the zone. And then what
was available early in the game for Canada is not available. Credit to Sweden for tightening things
up. Down to a minute 40 to go in a tie game. A digging forward to pop free from Matias Eol off
the boards. Knocked down by Stone and McKinnon fires it around the net. Line change here. And
right back on the ice comes McDavid’s line. David Martner and Reinhardt. And why wouldn’t you? You
have that option. Here’s Person backhanded to the crease. Steered aside by Bennington. Minute 10
left. William Knander. One hand on his stick.   Takes it around. Puts a pass to Headman. Shot.
Save made by Bennington. Comes to Darlene. Dene over. Here comes Headman. Edmond moves to the
middle. Diene rash got through and Bennington fights it off. He sure did with that left pad. 50
seconds to go. Sweden making a change. Gale Mar hits center ice and fires it in. Afraid of point
in pursuit. John Cooper goes with his lightning trio here and Paro’s shot rejected in front. Taves
will leg after it. Point Celli and Hegel Sweden in a line change. Puck dumped in. 23 seconds
left in regulation. Point has it. Steps off the wall. His pass into the skates of McKinnon.
Nathan McKinnon stolen away by Echo. Sends it to center. 13 seconds to go as Tames backs his
way into the zone. Here’s Braden Point there by Forsling. McKinnon with six. Nathan McKinnon
down to five around the net. Disarmed by Echol. Two seconds and one. The car has no time and
Sweden comes from down two in the third period to force overtime. We saw the elite speed at five
on five. What will it look like at three on three? Undertime underway. Overtime underway. That was
a clean faceoff win by Erikson. He just snapped that back. See the awesome DraftKings sports book
at the top of the screen as Erikson winds it up. Little drop pass for Jasper Pratt. shattered
by McDavid and Brad carrying through center. Esper Brad of the New Jersey Devils waits
on the wall moves to the middle of the ice   watched by Macar. Now it’s Erikson on Martner.
Rat on comes Raymond. Now Victor Hedman takes the place of Forsley. McDavid off McKinnon on
as Raymond comes out from below the goal line. Edmond on for Knander. One-on-one against
McKinnon. William Knander stops and waits. Nothing there. Finds Hedman. Top of the
zone. Raymond. Drop pass off for Knander. Lander waits. Still guarded by McKinnon to the
front and it’s just away from Raymond. Bennington got a stick on it. Spun to the front. McKinnon
off his skate. Bennington sets it up. McKenna   gets control of the puck for the first time here
in overtime. And Nathan McKinnon flying into the offensive zone to the slot around the outside
and Gustoson makes the save. The 2016 World Cup of hockey when he was playing for team North
America. Yeah, I I was lucky enough to call that game and it was something else. A lot of boos and
o’s in that one. Sweden gets a handle on the puck. Ricardo will leave off for Forsling and it has
point Stone and Morrisy on the ice. His advantage and carries the puck for Sweden taking advantage
for Raquel. Got around Stone over Zanagan and Bennington saves the day for team Canada. I guess
he did as an NHLer. Short sample size, only one start here in Montreal. But this one here is a
beauty. Look at the angle of his stick as he moved to the right there. And whether or not Zabanad
was thinking get that up or just trying to get it on that, I’m not sure. On the ice for team Canada.
Good support there by McDavid to help out McKinnon on that draw. Here’s Kar. He’s got McDavid. Gives
it to him. One-on-one against Headman. Conor McDavid. heels off as Edmond was off balance.
He’ll drop it for McKinnon. McKinnon shoots. Gustoson squeezes it and gets the whistle. Boy, is
he finding that puck team had no chance on a power play goal for Team Canada, but he has been awfully
good in this one. He’s had no chance really on two out of three. No chance on the second one
either. The great pass by, great point to Marshan. McKinnon will wind it up. Here we go. Nathan
McKinnon against Headmond. McKinnon shoots. Gustoson knocked it down and he will play it
to Forsber. Gus turn Gustin turned in the first start of this game. Off the bench Hegel denying
what could have been a breakaway for Knander. It   sets up a car. Save made by Gustiffson. Hegel
on the rebound out for McDavid. He’ll take it to center. He’ll get a chance to get off
the ice. Fresh legs on now for Canada. Taves passing the skates of Hegel. He’s got Celli to
the net. Hegel. Save made by Gustoson. Pass to Taves. Slowed up but got there. Hegel for Taves
on the rotation. The pass in the skates of Celli. Just a little little anxious to make that pass.
A little hard, a little firm and not on the   tape. On tapes without shape. Theodore’s
lined a lot of ice time for team Canada. as Mitch Martner gains the line. Point to the
net. Martner can’t find a way to get it there.   Morrisy the other option now for Mner who stops,
waits. Headedman was there. He dropped it for Morrisy. Return now for Mitch Mner. Mner shoot.
Save. Gustiffson. Rebound still floating around the front of the net and it poked back
on goal. Gustiffson covers. Push it back   towards the goalie. Off the draw. Mar secures
it. That was a minute and 51 second shift for Headman in overtime. Shots are 61 Canada here
after regulation. The big fella is huffing and puffing there to my left. McKinnon, McDavid, and
Mar and McKinnon will try it again. A little more speed this time. Aan McKinnon tries to cut to the
net and it was taken off his stick by Zapan. And now Eko rushing with McDavid, his teammate. He
gets away. T is cold around the net and he put it out in a good spot. Bennington down. The puck
is loose. It’s a threeon one for Canada. McKinnon McDavid and Mar McKinnon. Save made picked
up by Zabanagan. And here goes Sweden. Mar is back. Zabanad’s alone and he rifles one off the
glass. That’s a shocker there to take a shot from that far away. Adrien Kempe re-enters from the
slot. Mar got a piece. Well, I’m awfully happy there’s going to be another five minutes of this
overtime. Halfway through it. Patterson love the shot and it comes now for Forsling. A wrist that
blocked by Mart. He breaks his stick though. Stays in the zone. Patterson for Forsling. Back door
and Bennington robs. Kemp the game winner. Oh, he’s come up with some superlives himself. Not
to be outdone. Now it’s Hegel crisscrossing with Celli. Morrisy is out there as well. And Hegel
will back off the pressure as Celli swapped out for Sydney Crosby. There is not a fan here on
their on their rear ends. Everybody on their feet. It’s Morrisy. Fans of Crosby 87’s looking for the
puck. Marters alone in front, but it’s cut off by Knander. Brad and Knander on two-on-one with
Crosby hustling back. Jasper Brad William. Knander roll away. Now it’s picked up by Crosby. He’s
looking to see if he’s got some help. Morrisy went to the bench. Crosby delayed and sets up Martner.
Full stride into the zone. Mitch Martner scores. Mitch Martner. An overtime winner for team Canada. And on a long shift, he plays it back.
Martner had some speed because he was deep   in the defensive zone. So going up the ice
with speed, backs off the sweet defenseman, and he’s able to make a nice little snap.
Here’s the play by Car. He’s waiting and   waiting and looking. He punts it back. Then
he goes for a line change. Barely getting on inside by the way. And Martner’s shot. He
tried it before. He pulled it back. Changed the angle and a little tow drag right there and
pulls it to the stick side against the grain, beating Gustoson. But listen, make no mistake.
Jordan Bennington made two outstanding saves before that. That allowed the Canadians to
get going the other way. Both goalenders really came on halfway through this game. Been
an excellent hockey game. Very entertaining. Well, Mitch Martner has his moment in Montreal as he scores the overtime
winner and saves this one   for team Canada in the opener
to our four nations faceoff. Are you expecting Ray for the US to push the pace
early and can they against the discipline of the way the Fins play? Well, I think they’re going to
want to. The Fins are going to want to check. The   difference that I look for is you can’t play the
game on your heels. Remember what happened just last night. The Sweets didn’t get a shot for 15
minutes. They couldn’t handle the early Canadian   pace. US will like to do the same thing today. And
you saw Wes McCauley, one of our referees tonight, wearing a camera that we’ll be able to tap
into from time to time. And here’s Jack Hughes   on the hop across the line, but lost the puck to
Barkoff early. And that is something that Finland will need to see a lot of, and that is Barkoff
disrupting play offside on the near wing. And look at John Tortoelli in the middle. They have a long
relationship together. They’ve coached together.   Sullivan spoke glowingly of him this morning and
what he’s meant to both Sullivan’s career and to USA hockey. They want him to be the wise old man
on this staff, which is kind of a different than the public perception of Tordella, but it really
is the way he is. In Troche of the Rangers, the long outlet off the stick of Dylan Larkin,
the captain of the Detroit Red Wings, and it’s all the way down to Essa Lindell. Nico Mikola of
the Florida Panthers lost it. Play it forward by Austin Matthews. Has it in the high slot, Wheels
on the back end. Matthews pitches it down low.   Centering pass intended for Gensel was broken
up and through the neutral zone. Terrain he’ll go cross corner. Jacob Slavven back to retrieve up
the boards into the skates of Gensel. A one touch and Matthews through center. He accelerates across
the fence line in the high slot. Hughes. He’s got room. Wrist shot save made by Sorrowos. Joel Arma
the Canadians lost it to Matthews. Found a cutter down low. Got it on net by Hughes and a blocker
save made by Sorrowos. A shot pass from Slavven. Almost the game’s first tally. And now we have
the game’s first penalty. There’s Lucy. And you’re right. He and he and Lundell work hand and glove
in Florida. They’re just a tremendous penalty killing duo. 25 seconds of power play time. The
first unit back out for the US. Matthews off the one touch from Gensel. Checked by Mika Eel behind
the net. Lost it and Roe Hint is able to clear it all the way down. Maybe time for one more red,
white, and blue rush. Winding up as Fox Eel whips one left. The US was about to be offside on the
power play for the third time. They stay on side, but that kills the rest of the man advantage time.
No shots on net on that power play for Team USA as Henry Yuki Haru of the Sabres puts it out to the
neutral zone. That’s right back in for the handle by Essa Lindell. [Applause] Barkoff across to Miko
Rantin. Puts on the brakes. He goes cross corner. Lechan fires one off the blocker of Hellbuck. It’s
loose along the goal line. Wheeling in the corner is Barkov. Plays it back up top. Bakanan with that
shot again. A blocker save. Carams to the corner off Helluck. That was a good save. He didn’t have
a good look at it. Bakan and softly deep. Rantin with a stick lift. looks to control. 50/50 puck in
the corner racing over as Barkov. Mo Rantin trying to force it out in front. He is double teamed.
Baldi puts a shoulder to him. Hannifan now checks   Barkoff who kicks the puck into the corner.
Rantinan lost to the skates of Hannneathan. Yoki Haru with room. Banks one off the end wall.
And now Brock Faber finally settles it down for the US and they are able to clear the zone as
Brady Kachchuck softly into finish ice and the US makes a change. You know it’s funny Bob I just
saw Vakan go to change and the comfort for these players playing in there with their country and
team is they get to use their own language right Vakan goes back to the bench he yells for a change
in finish. It must be so much easier than trying to adjust all the time to English and trying to
play the game at the same time. A turnover. Brock Nelson off the bar. Brock Nelson just about got
the game’s first goal. Another shot towards the net. Blocked in front. Rock Nelson behind the net.
Lost it to Rope Hints and he will aloop it out to the neutral zone. Good step by Winsky. turns it
back for Lurin and that’s off the glass on the finish bench. Sam Reinhardt and his father Paul
played so fathers and sons through the game and to get to do it at this level just a remarkable
thing. And they are both Ray straw that stirs the drink type players, aren’t they? Both Kachchucks.
They re They really are. And as much as you know you talk about them as the same Brady is like is
like Big Walt. He’s like Keith, like same size, same game, same ruggedness. Matthews refined
his game a little bit, I’d say. Slavven shoots on net. It was slowed as it got to Jussi Sorrowos.
Jake Gensel right on the doorstep. Got a stick on the puck that time. Turned back by Barkov. Thrown
cross corner by Fox. Taken by Rantin. Puts on the brakes and outlet Lechin. One touch to Barkoff
across the line, but forgot the puck. Instead, it’s Fox out to Jack Hughes. sets up Slavven
who delays allowing his mates to change. Rings it around the wall. Bouncing puck in the corner
handled by Lo Rainan. Off the feed from Lundell and a one touch Ola through center across
the line. The drag by Granlin. Shot score. Henry Yoki Haru lights the lamp with a wister
that beats Hellabuk. They’re on the board with their first and it’s Henry Yoki Haru’s first of
the tournament. And Rey, you mentioned he was one of those replacement defenseman in the absence of
Miro Heskin, Yanni Hakenpaw, and Rasmus Ralin. So, one of the defensive replacements for Finland
gives them the advantage. And here’s Los Rainan digging in the corner met by Makavoy. Loan a steal
behind the net out to the point played across. Shot by Mton Paulo and a save through traffic by
Hellebuk. They can’t clear. Anton Lundell sets up hence tow drag. Lost to Rainan off the right
shoulder of Hellabuk. So after the goal continued pressure for team Finland and the US not looking
nearly as dominant as we expected, at least early as Mount Paulo settles it down. As often it’s the
case with underdogs, nobody told them they’re not supposed to win. And so the the Fins have had a
terrific start, a really good penalty kill and the game’s first goal. Terrain and the high slot
weaves his way to the right wing corner. Stabs it along the shelf. It hops past Sebastian
Aaho and the US moves it forward. Handled by Brock Nelson. His pass blocked. Line rags one
back. Mika gets a return from Lindell. Whips it up the boards. Skates to stick for L. Rink
wide pass in stride. Lundell and he dumps it in all the way lifted back out to the red line.
Eric Holla of the Devils will settle it down.   Essa Lindell gives it right back to him and Holla
accelerates and gets the puck deep. So Yoki Haru at 731 from Grandland and Mata. That’s the game’s
first goal. Austin Matthews to Jack Hughes on the hop through center. Hughes brings it across the
line and scans. Hughes sets up. Matthews shoots off the crossbar. The second pipe that Team
USA has hit already. There are eight Stanley Cup winners combining for nine total Stanley
Cups on the roster for team Finland. Of course, all four of those Florida Panthers winning it
this past June. Eight Panthers in the tournament, which is remarkable. Matt Baldi skates
onto it in the corner. Centering pass. Kachchuck. Chuck from behind. Tries a bank
shot. Score Brady Kachchuck banked it off Jussi Saros. Second effort from Kachchuck. Ties
the game at one. Great for check and it’s 1-1. It rolls it on Helluck and he’ll keep play moving.
Paddles it to the half ball. Chuck the equalizer. And now let’s see how Finland responds and
if that lights a fire in the United States. Michel lifts one up but not out. Gensel knocked
it down, kept it alive. Austin Matthews chips it to Gensel looking for a return. Esselind with a
reach. Jack Hughes looks to take the puck away. Slavven keeps it in at the left point. Granted it.
Finally able to force it out to Lechan at the red line. Loose puck handled by Hughes. He will wheel
and step across the line. Kyle Connor accelerates his shot blocked to the corner. Another bank
shot opportunity thrown on net by Hannathan and that time hugging the post wasaros. Rowensky
tries to glove it down and does. Play continues. Faber lost it behind the net. Lion crashing in.
Faber looking to escape a duel with Aaho and it’s out center circle for Kyle Connor and he will
backhand one in. Yoki Haru plays it to the near side past Connor to Line and he escapes. Banks
a pass to Aaho. Shouldered off the puck though by Brock Faber left in the corner. Line is there.
Line tripped up. Penalty call. Power play coming for team Finley. That saved by Helle. Killing play
allows Troche to step back in but can’t win the faceoff. One back again by Lendell. Another shot.
Save. Heluk. The rebound. Lundell tried to tee it up and it just floats wide. What a look there for
Terra and he lifts another opportunity over the crossbar. Still a half minute of power play time.
Lindell, Granland at the half wall. Gets a return. Lindell at Rister Harams to Granlin. Troche
blocked the shot. Granland circles the net. Throws it right through the blue paint. Terrain.
Granland now sets up shot behind the net. Look to chip one out in front. One touch Lundell.
Terrain shot pass guided just wide by rimmed all the way around by Lacan. Handled by Terrain
down to the goal line it goes. Centering pass. Miller calmly wheels around and clears out of the
box. Hannneathan moves in the backand. Save made by Soros. The breakaway out of the penalty
box for Hannneathan. And Soros was ready. Oolada up the left wing lifted in by Holla. Most
rainy for check. Arma tries to dig it free. Most rain in there as well. Foxhounds him all the
way around the boards. Montalo throws it off the outside of the net. Jack Hughes skates onto
it. Chips it behind. Poked by Lo Rainan hoping for a return in the right wing corner. 5
and 1/2 minutes to go in what has been a   great first period. Armia centering pass stab to
the corner. Mountain Paulo Dean Finland keeping the pressure on. Jack Hughes long out pass
nearly hooked up with Gensel but it will be icing instead. Connor wins the draw. Michael
circles. Michael surveys. Time running out. Warinski shot blocked by Granlin. Warensky
slings one towards the net. That’s blocked by Lindell as Lindell with the last shot block
and that will end the period tied at one. West McCauley with ref cam once again gave us a couple
of fun looks in the first period and we have an icing call to begin the second. Over the last
couple of seasons in addition to all the goals   that Austin Matthews has scored, he has hit
the post or the crossbar 30 times as well. Think about how many more just inches away from
being in the net. There’s a shot. Save made by   Hellabuk. L with a good look as Aaho set him up.
Eichel through center. Just missed Connor. And that’s what if the Fins are looking for something,
they’d love L to get a one-time like that. He got decent wood on it, but Hella Buck in position to
make the stop. Four and a half minutes gone by. Second period. Eel deliberately across the
line. Matthew Kachchuck all the way around hammering down the wall was Slavven line couldn’t
clear. Slavven wins the puck. Nice stick by Lo Rainan. Flattened it. Got it in the passing
lane and the US forced to recycle in center. Box off to Faber as the US forms up through center
ahead of steam for JT Miller across the line after the dump in. Ole Mada leaves it in the corner.
Matt Baldy met by Men Paulo in the corner controls it skates to stick. Rims it all the way around.
Adam Fox at the half wall. He’s checked by Losan and it’s cleared. A race Faber and Granlin or
rather Hannneathan and Hannifan got there first. Some punishment from Granland, but paid the price.
Cleared the zone and now Halla. A little give and go. Hoping for the puck back from Armia on the
dump init. Reverse hit by Fox. Terrain takes a shot in the corner from Troche. Gets back to
Essendell at the point. Skating onto it. Holla. Wrist shot off a body in front. Mikola activates
to Terrainan behind the net. Arma off the stick of Hellabuk. A wraparound try and it’s lifted clear.
And that’s some good forch check work by the Fins. The US doesn’t kill the play. Fox and Hannifan
it. So the defenseman they allowed it to keep going and the Fins get a good chance. Barkoff
across miscommunication on the pass to Lechan. Here’s Troche moving in with a drop. Larkin.
His pass floats to Troche in the corner. Barkov settles it down. Clears the zone. And Larkin
with a good hit. Center circle. Lechan takes a bump but dumps the puck in. Hella looking around.
Lost it to Barkov. Larkin there to try and dig in and cover up. Rantin picks the puck free. Floats
it back up towards the blue line and just across the US line out to the neutral zone. You saw that
little misplay by Hellabuk. New defenseman and the goalie. They don’t play together. There’s got to
be a communication about to play it or leave it.   And they both got stuck on it. Rantin to the puck
in the corner after Hella gave up a rebound. Dylan Larkin can’t clear. Rantin and Rope Hints try to
combine to keep it on side. Now it’s out to the neutral zone and OA gains the red line weaves his
way across the US line. Leaves for Sebastian Aaho. Gensel pokes it to the corner. Austin Matthews
good job to wall off Aaho and that allows the US to move through center. Gensel in a race. Oh,
buried in the corner by Mountain Pollo and a penalty will be called. You want to see Fox with
the puck making that decision coming up the ice,   but when they get set, don’t be shy to shoot it.
Don’t look for the perfect play. They get set with the one draw. Kensel at the half wall gets a
return from Kachchuck. One timer by Fox. Blocked by Holla and he clears. That’s about the third
block from the from the Fins. We saw Granland did it right at the end of the first period and there
hollow with a good read in the block of the shot   by Fox. You see that simple approach pass back
shot try and get a rebound. Only one shot attempt on the opening power play for Team USA. They
went off sides twice here. Eel gains the zone. Accelerates and does a lap. Enel floats it deep.
Austin Matthews protects the puck. Leads it into the corner. Gets past Kachchuck. Not past Fox.
He tries to rim it deep. Anton Landell gets free. Lendell with a block and a takeaway. Leans in on
Gensel. One hands, one on Hell, who makes the save and Fox right back up the ice to Austin Matthews.
Eel with a drop. Matthew Kachchuck walks it in. Changes spots with Matthews. Stabbed by Fox. Kept
on side. Carams to Matthews. It’s across to Eel and Eichel settles things down. Fox straight away.
Back to Eel. 38 seconds to go on the power play. Eichel now straight away to Matthews down to the
goal line. Gets a return shot. Just miss Gel on a one touch at the post. Matthews again down to
the goal line. Matthew Kachchuck back up to the point. Fox a return. Kachchuck again boxes his
man out. Faces the net down to the goal line. Matthews out in front. Gensel save made by Soros.
The set play and Gensel point blank range 15 ft to 20 ft to shoot this puck and he tried to force
a pass. He end up with no shot on goal. Well,   Faber of course completed his rookie season last
year, Ray. So that might be the ultimate example of a young player, maybe the most differential
player on Team USA. Oh, I don’t know how you wouldn’t feel it. And so at some point they’re
like, “Yeah, good. I’m glad you’re the youngest   player and all that. just shoot the puck and
and next time I bet he does. Off the outside of the net as Granland put one towards Hellbuck
over the glove of Rantin and Hughes a one-touch. Austin Matthews crosses over shoots it just wide.
He’s first to the puck behind the net. Centers and just misses Gensel. That line ray is getting
some chances. They are Matthews and Hughes have a clear connection with finding the open seam. When
somebody slashes through the defense, they seem to hit them in stride. They’re they’ve been dangerous
all night. Paula moves in alone, misses. Heluk may have gotten a piece, but he tried to go high to
the blocker side and missed. Mikola Banks one off of Ara. Hannah couldn’t dig it free. It ends up
with Mikola at the left point. Floats one towards the net. Blocked by Hatterathan in front. Connor
pivots and exits the zone. Connor weaves his way through center. Lost it to Terrain. Back check
by Baldi. Creates the turnover. Fox right back to Matt Baldy. He floats one into the offensive
zone. Bob, that’s the neutral zone I’m talking about. There’s just not a lot of room through it.
You got to chip it and go get it because the fins are stacked up at the blue line. Arma moves in
with Aaho to his left. tried to hook a pass that way but it was moved around by Troche. Baldi banks
a pass ahead. Ool Mada protects it from the forche of Troche. And now Line settles it down. Tape to
tape to Oolada. Ahead to Rupe Hints. The Dallas Stars forward. Knocks it into the offensive zone.
Faber spins one ahead. Dylan Larkin with some open ice to Troche. Gets a return. Larkin after his
own dump in. Yoki Haru beats him to the puck. Not past Faber. An intercept though. Stepping in
perfectly was L. Okay, this is how international hockey is different. You play for your country.
It’s a hell of a defensive play by Patrick Li and you you don’t rev that up too often. I
mean, that’s not the strength of his game. Vakan away from the for check of Eel. Pass loan.
Icing waved off. Hella out to play it. reverses loss to rain blocks it in the corner behind the
net. Anton Lundell the two Florida Panthers go to work once again and the newest member of the Stars
is out there as well with them and Granland skates to stick gets a return. Granland sets up shot
behind the net. Granland centering pass. Lundell floats one in on net and it’s covered at the edge
of the crease by Hella. Canada plays Finland on TNT and max at 1 Eastern. And then the Swedes
and the US play at 8 Eastern. Fox Rayquad pass. Hannifan with a drive. Blocked in front. Jussi
Soros couldn’t control the rebound. A chance   for Kachchuck on the edge of the crease and Jussi
Sorrowos covers it up. The US has to find a way. Quick little passes out of the zone. See if you
can push a little bit of pace through the middle of the ice. Make the Fins have to back up. It’s
Baldi first to the corner. JT Miller returns it to him. Baldi works it out in front. Tried to
feed the point and fanned on the pass. Held in by Faber at the right point. Long shot. Score.
Team USA takes the lead. That time Faber. He did shoot the puck. Baldi the deflection. They’re
going to go into this period with the lead. And   this has been a hardfought mosh pit type game.
and Matthews draws a penalty. So there will be carryover penalty time to the second period
for Team USA or for the to the third period. What do you look for on this power play for the
US based on the two you’ve already seen? Well,   I like the I like the first minute of the of the
last US power play where they got the puck to the point, they started to shoot it and then that
starts opening up the plays. Zone entry score. A long wrist from Kachchuck. Just like that. The
Matthew Baldy goal that made it 2-1. The Matthew Kachchuck goal that makes it 3-1. And the US a
critical early power play goal. Austin Matthews off to Gensel. Score. Matthews to Gensel.
26 seconds and two team USA goals to extend the lead to three. Off the draw. Esselind puts
it behind the net all the way around to line. Centering pass onto the stick of Kyle Connor
and he races through center and feathers. Mika leaves for Lindell. Move further, but it hit West
McCauley skates. So Brock Nelson banks it up top. Cross corner from Fox hoping for Connor to skate
onto it. retrieved instead by Trochek but missed connection with Hannipan. So at 15 seconds it was
Matthew Kachchuck from Warky and Gensel on the power play. And then at 26 seconds Gensel a goal
and an assist in 26 seconds for Gensel as Matthews and Hughes pick up the assist. 11 seconds apart.
Two Team USA goals to stretch the lead to 4-1. Jack Hughes skates to stick. Nicely handled by
Makavoy and a return. Jack Hughes through center. Warinsky down the right wing side. Toe drags
behind the net. Look to center. That was denied   by Oima. Austin Matthews keeps it moving. Ray, how
much does this change the normal style of play as Granlin comes through, crosses over on Warky, but
obviously up and down play, taking chances, a lot of scoring opportunities. That is not team Finland
style. No, it’s like a football team that wants to run the ball and now you you need points in a
hurry. Well, now you got to pass. It’s something you don’t do well up and down the ice. That’s not
the fins game. Michael to Kachchuck. Score. Second of the game for Brady Kachchuck. And they win the
draw. Rantin and a one touch line. They get things set up. Barkoff down low. scans from the goal
line. Line back to Barkov. Wants to center to rope. Hints. That’s denied by Slavven. So he backs
up. Line to Rantin. Puck not getting to the net. Now it does. That shot blocked by Trochek. And JT
Miller kills some time. Peels off for a change. That’s a terrific block by Troche. With the two
forwards, Miller and Troche on the ice. He knows   he’s going to have to block one. He eats the line
a one-time. It’s really a smart hard play by Troj. Line A allows it to float back to Ransidan.
Barkoff now up top once again. Ransid holding across the Barkoff shoots and a stick save is made
I think with the shaft of the stick potentially by Hellob. Line a drops. Barkoff carries Brantin
back to Barkoff. Wrist shot save. Hell that time with the blocker. Mark Barkov with room. The
fouron-ree continues. That’s off the st tip of the stick of Rope Hints. L gave it away. Brock
Nelson possible twoon-one with Larkin. Larkin moves in short-handed tried to bank shot. That was
denied with the right pad by Jussi Sorrowos. Well, the US have did a terrific job on that fouron
three. Really nothing very dangerous and what was the peluck turned away. 20 seconds left of
five on four power play time as Lindell on the move. Granland centering pass missed Aaho and that
is cleared by JT Miller and that will do it just about for the power play. Down to 5 seconds as
Winsky set to jump out of the box and he does. We are back at five aside and Warinsky with a near
breakaway opportunity as Sorrowos plays the puck. Hannipan had one in the first period. That would
have been something if Winsky walks out and steps into a breakaway as well. Granland shouldered by
Gensel. Hipan ahead to Austin Matthews. Drops for Jack Hughes. Hughes tried a centering pass that
was denied. Hifan has it off to Austin Matthews. Shoot. Save Soros. Down the wall comes Adam Fox.
Now he retreats. Hall with a step. Hannipan back defensively. Holla shoots. Glove. Save. Heluck.
Matthew Baldy. Goal. It made it 2-1 the shot. So they maybe the players I would say Matthews
probably feels more comfortable on this side of the ice where he can come up higher and then go
straight down that left wing and shoot it. Well, Team USA scored on their last power play. Yeah,
that doesn’t count. That was a 55 ft wrist off the defense. It It’s on the scoreboard. Yeah, it
does, but it counts. I think it counts. You know   what I mean? Well, yeah. Matthews with Lindell
losing his stick. Some open ice. Winsky hooks a pass back to Eel. Gets a return. Oinsky shoots.
Score on the rebound. The second on the power play for Matthew Kachchuck. Paula wins the draw.
Paulo throws it towards the net. Save made by Hellen. And there is Matthews behind. Lost it to
Terra Binan. Big hit in the corner. Delivered by Faber. Slavven pass. Holla. Pass Bala. Hops along
the shelf. Team USA tries the same side. And that time Gensel with a one-touch clear. Terrain shoots
off the outside of the post. centers cleaned up by Slavven and moved by Eichel. Handled by Matthew
Kachchuck. Cross-iz pass intercepted by Essa Lindell. Mikola through the skates of Arma. And
we’re down to the last 2 and 1/2 minutes. And boy, Ray, you’ll be right where you’re standing now
on Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. when this Team USA group is out there against Canada here at Bell
Center in Montreal. Hard to imagine how loud this place is going to be and what the atmosphere for
that game will be like. Well, the speed that the Canadians played with in the first 15 minutes of
game one, the the way the Americans have put their game together here in the last half. Everybody’s
anticipated this game anyway, Bob, but it sets up to be an instant classic the way Canada and
the US play each other. I I can hardly wait. offside whistle. Tight game with really not much
room. That early third period power play goal, the long wristster by Matthew Kachchuck and then
11 seconds later, it’s 4-1 and I mean literally it’s over at that point, right? That the US
just totally played this third period the way they would love to play it. And now they get a day
off and get back at it Saturday night. Same hell. Swept wide by Lundell after his own rebound as we
are down to the final 37 seconds of the opening game for both of these teams in this four nations
faceoff. And again we await the double header on Saturday at 1 p.m. on ABC Finland and Sweden.
And then at 8 and will be Canada and team USA. Brandliness checked by Nelson clears the zone. Slavven floats
it back in. 9 seconds to go and now content back in to simply let the last few seconds tick away.
Four third period goals for team USA and they end up running away from Finland with a 61 win. The
pleasantries, the diplomacy, the gift exchange, the anthems are over. Now, this is a true rivalry
game, is it not? It It is. This is Canada, US. I mean, for for the Fins and the Swedes, they
don’t like each other. They’re They want to prove that they’re the dominant nation in hockey. And
the the Fins will be better in game two than they were in game one. And already we see some
physicality as Broaddin hit early by Ransidan. Nico Ransidan needs to get going offensively.
He tumbles to the ice. Knocked down by Broaddin. It’s up top for a drive by Piccolo that goes just
wide. Victor Hedman tries to clear the zone. It’s settled down by Rantin and that top line goes off
for a change. But that’s a pretty good first shift for the top group for the fence. It is with
Rantin and Aaho apart. They look for a little   better punch offensively, a little more zone time.
So now we’ll see Aaho with hints from Dallas and Granland who’s now in Dallas as well. Rope Hints
in the left wing corner tried to feed Aaho. Ryan instead. It pops up in the air to the half
wall. Lucas Raymond takes a shoulder from Hint, but through center. It’s played by Erikson and
he will charge in with a one-handed sweep. Down the wall comes Raymond. Over skated the puck
against the outlet to Aaho. Hoping for Granland in the corner, but Gustaf Forsley of the Florida
Panthers walled him off and that allows Erikson to escape. The speed of Jper Brat. We saw that at
times against team Canada on Wednesday night and the Swedes will look to unleash him again today as
well as he and Jack Hughes tremendous combination for the New Jersey Devils. The Swedes want to get
out and rush the puck in transition a little bit. The Fins would like to cut the ice in half and
play a little more of this half ice game. Puts one off the outside of the pad of Gustoson and he
stumbled getting back in the crease. It’s a little slow to get up across the line. Carlson feeds
Forsber. Wrist shot save made by Lincoln and it carams to the corner. Moves back to the point
by Kempe because Patterson kept it in. Gets a return. A little tow drag to the backand tied up.
Pocketan tries to move the puck and line a floats it out to the neutral zone. Touched in midair
by Lo Rainan. Couldn’t control. Patterson will   break it back and both teams will change. First
good chance was Philip Forsber who darts into the zone. He’s got that good tow drag release. Lanken
in a good stop. Nyquist a little shimmy shake,   shoots and just misses the net to the near side.
First power play coming up for the Swedes here. Nyquist behind the net. The net empty at the
opposite end. Extra attacker is on in the form   of Knander. Rodin plays it up top. That shot
flutters wide. Knander is able to corral and lost the puck allowing Terrainan to touch it up.
Lays good oldfashioned hate, right? We see that college rivalries, obviously a border rivalry
between these two. It’s what sports is built on. It it is and what the way it’s supposed to
be. The bragging right is really the power of it all. But the Fins and the Swedes are were always I
found great teammates, great people to be around, fun people to be around and had a been fortunate
enough to get to both countries a lot. It’s they’re both fantastic, really fun places to
be. Adrien Kempe stabs it behind the net. Anton Lundell of the Florida Panthers pitchforks it
all the way back out to the red line. Kempe was, as you said, Ray, you thought the best for
Sweden against Canada the other night. I   thought he was terrific. He had a career-high
points last year in LA. An Kopitar, a centerman, says he’s just so easy to play with. He’s so
predictable, so good. and the Kings drafted him in the first round and they’ve really reaped
the benefits of a terrific player. There’s the best arguably two-way player in the world. Barkoff
to take the puck away from Knander twice. He got it back. Savannah scores on the forche. A take
away by Knander. Savanagan able to capitalize. As you said, in football terms the
other night when they got behind the US,   especially once the US had that blitz
in the beginning of the third period, it’s like a football team that wants to run the
ball but now is forced to put it in the air. Yeah. And it just and it just doesn’t work right.
So the the fins have to be real careful here,   I’d say, by the end of this period to keep this
game right where it is. Don’t fall down more than one. The the offense is going to be tough
for the Fins. And one of the reasons, Bob,   is their defense can’t move the puck efficiently
out of their zone. So, it has to be a half ice game. It’s hard to generate offense like that.
Erikson, a little give and go across the line with Dra. Steps it high and wide. Lucas Raymond
puts it behind the net. An intercept there by Essa Lindell. Up to his teammate, Rope Hint. And
hence sweeps it out to the neutral zone. Erikson waits for his teammates to tag up. slings it
around the shelf. It ends up back with Essa Lindell and he puts it right back off the right
wing glass to the neutral zone. Banked pass ahead, chopped by Raymond. Handled now by the Fins.
Yoki Haru a one-touch ahead. Here’s some open ice for Rope. Hence across the line with Aaho. The
drop just missed and now Brat will glove it down. Jasper Brad heads off for the change as Matias
Ekhome buys some time. Patterson through the contact of Brandon finds it all the way around.
Rodin on the back hand chops it into the corner to Forsber. Forsber is checked by Oolie Mada.
Forsber lost it to Rantin. Rantin tried to oneand a pass to Ma supported by Barkov across
the line. room. Lechan shoots and a save made by Customsson. Patterson brings it the other
way as team Sweden is now in transition. Good stick though by Barkov to disrupt that last
shot. Ray was the first on net for the Fins and we’re past the midway point of the period.
Even though they’ve had some good zone time,   they can’t get it into the middle of the ice
to shoot it. They had a couple chances. They missed the net, but it’s a decent chance for
Lechan. So, here’s a twoon one. Two Panthers across the line goes to rain and Lindell
out scores. The Panther connection puts it behind Gustoson in Boston Thursday on
ESPN. Everybody making provisional flight plans to get out of here as they expected a big
storm tonight and overnight and players, teams, officials that put this tournament on. Everybody
was been pretty busy over the last 24 hours trying to get flights arranged. Kempe with speed trying
to tow drag. Accomplished it and put it off the stick of Lanken. Barkov moves the puck up
the boards. Kempe a steal. Elias Patterson knocked to the ice from behind by Rantan.
Forcing a drive save made again by Lincoln. A reach for Miko Rantan. Hit by Deli. from P.
He Bob, he took that run at him after Ranton and felt Person down at the other end of the ice.
He wanted Patterson wanted that contact in the far corner. So, a number has been taken at least by
Elas Patterson. Yeah, he wasn’t very happy with   it. Knander across with some speed. Savanagad off
the chest of Lankan. It’s been the most dangerous Swedish pair right there. Victor Hedman moves in
now as a sweeps it off the stick of Lankan again. It pops in the air and headed tries to keep it on
side and then takes a penalty. He trips AO Lincoln in another good stop. Here’s the finished power
play. AO they bump it to the near wall to line. A little three-man game in the triangle. Line a
seam pass. Score. Rantin lights the lamp on the power play. Just what Finland needed. Ray for Nico
Ransidan who as you said is a 100point player in the NHL the last two years. That is his first shot
on net officially in this tournament and it’s a goal that gives Finland the lead and it looks like
it will give them the lead after the first period. And now there’s a new goalie Bob for the Swedes.
I mean as Omar takes over between the pipes for the Swedes. So Ray, does that surprise you at all
or is that something you see coming as you said with a couple of moments in that first period
as that shot whistles wide from Knander where Gustoson didn’t seem to have a lot of spring in
his game? No, he didn’t have a good first period.   It’s funny you mentioned at the end of the first
period that Mike Sullivan said the tournament gets late early. Well, no time to wait. You don’t
have a good day. It’s it’s not it’s not Gustoson’s day. It’s all Mark’s now. Kneelander passed up
another opportunity to shot to shoot and tried to feed Zabanagad. Got it back. So Barkov’s got no
stick here. So there’s room up top. Knander to the backhand back to the forehand and he was checked
by Mikola. Barkov controlling it with his skates as best he can as he is without a stick. Mikola
pins it up against the boards. Ransen tries to clear the zone. Barkov does his best to stay with
Michika, but it stays on side. Brat carries it, banks it back up to Erikson. Fresh body off the
bench. Jasper Brat in the high slot. Mikola shank the shot again. Barkoff without a stick. So he is
helpless to take it away from Lucas Raymond. Now Ranton clears the zone. ESPN Bet, the official
sports book of ESPN and an official partner of the NHL. See, there’s another chance for the
Swedes to shoot the puck. Raymond right down the gut. Shoot it. Go for a shot and a potential
rebound. They’re too fine with the puck. Forsling will fire. That caught the post, I believe,
and went up in the netting. I think they had   to make the switch. I mean, you look at the
first period and whether they broke down or not defensively and gave up some man advantage
breaks. Unfortunately, Philip Gustiffson stopped   half the shots that went at him. Two on them,
two went past them. You got to make a change. Well, not too bad when you can bring a Beza trophy
winner off the bench. And Lena Smark, of course, won back in 2023. And he will now try and keep
Sweden in this game and in this tournament as the Four Nations faceoff. It gets late early as
Mike Sullivan said the other day, a must-win for both teams. I thought one of the things the US
did really well against the Fins the other day   was when the game was tight and still 2-1 1-1 for
a lot of time they didn’t panic they didn’t get frustrated the the Swedes have to do the same
no use pressing the game there’s lots of time   left Jonas Broaddin banks a pass ahead on the hop
across the line blew attire just lost his edge and Bakanan was able to play the puck moved by Lundell
and now peeling back Montalo Montpalo who plays in Ottawa had a little glimpse in a funny exchange
with Mark in warmup. The two Ottawa Senators get to see each other in the break. Line heroetses
in the corner. Mikola pointto point. Lindell seam pass hoping for L. Stick in the lane by Broaddin.
Line still with the retrieval up against the wall. Double team down the wall comes Lindell. Keeping
it on side with a reach is Barkoff with room. Barkoff. Shoot. Save made by Omar. Tested for the
first time. A high danger chance for Barkoff. Here is Lindell. Trapped straight away or Anthony.
He’ll skate it to the half wall and all the way down to the corner. Checked by Raquel. Moved back
towards the point as Lindell keeps it on side. Poked to the corner. A good shoulder by Rantin.
Centers one off the stick of Lechan. Barkoff keeps the pressure on behind the net. Rensin sets up
shot to Barkov. Snaps a shot. Another follow and it’s gobbled up by Omar with lechin from point
blank range and is able to just swallow it up in his belly. The draw again controlled by Finland.
Papo Kako wrist save. Omar couldn’t control the rebound. A positional save. It bounces off his
pads again and was settled down by Forsling. And now Jasper Brat snaps a pass left to Yul Ericson
muscles his way to the goal line. Holy ma takes it away around to Kako up not out skates to stick.
Dali a nice move by Brat but he was checked by Kako wound deep behind the net. Erikson away from
Yoki Haru feeds the point. Forsber a finesse pass to Raymond. Lucas Raymond wrist shot save land
blanketed through traffic. The rebound score. The defenseman Darlene down low on the pinch. It
really for these players, it doesn’t get anything better than this. It really internationally
that it just doesn’t until maybe the Olympics next year. But man, this is going to be great
tonight. Do you think that’s really the reason why Sam Bennett’s on the team for this matchup
tonight? As there is a shot score in transition, Raquel 32 Sweden. Knander took one step to his
left. That opened up that room for the passing lane for for that puck to go from kneelander onto
Eric Carlson. And his shot beats Lanken and up over the glove. Robe hints a takeaway. Just missed
Aaho. AO slaps it towards the net. Dalene knocks it down. And now it’s played by Forsling. Checked
by Hints. Forsling protects the puck on the backand all the way out. A race for it. Yoki Haru
beats Brat to the puck. circles the dead, keeps it moving off the stick of Dali. Lucas Raymond
chips it to the red line. Yoki Haru will retreat. AO off the left wing side to Ma cross corner
Forsling to a vacant corner. Lundell on the move close to Rayan in behind the net. Good stick
from his Panthers teammate and Gustaf Forsley. It’s got it out and now Mat Paulo off to L.
Gains speed. Line moves in. Line just about had it teed up. Couldn’t split the defense.
Easier said than done with Gustaf Forsling. Here’s one of those defenders back. Forsber
off his stick. Montalo keeps it deep. Lundell works it out in front. chips it off the
stick of Omar and it’s cleared. [Applause] Wendell tied up by Forsley and he wins
the puck again. Skies it all the way down. So Montalo settles it down. 7 and 1/2 minutes
to go in the second period. Ibuan across the line an area pass hoping for Holla. Carlson got
there first. Takome couldn’t get it past Lindell. Ties up Terrain right in front of the
penalty box doors. Here’s Nyquist moving   in. Gus Nyquist centering pass off the skates
of Lynhol. Nyquist gave it away to Lindell. Lindell ahead. Terrain and couldn’t control and
now Ekholm gains the red line. Skates to stick. Savannah drops. Arbitson missed the net. Tied up
by Mika off the stick of Nyquist. Lechan escapes with Ranton in twoon two through the neutral
zone. Lechan delays finds the trailer. Yoki Haru. Wrist shot save made with the shoulder by
Omar. That was a tough save for Omar. Nobody saw Yoki Haru come off the bench and while the
Swedes had lots of people back defensively,   nobody picked up Yoki Haru. Off the draw,
Zabanagad. Carlson shot blocked. He will keep it on side. Skated onto by Kempe. Right back
to Carlson. Shovel towards the net. Zabanagad nearly deflected it and he is first to it in the
corner. Carlson couldn’t keep a rolling puck in. Sticker Headman off to Carlson. That puck missed the stick of Kempe. Edmond
lets his teammates get on side. Lobs it for Kempe in the right wing corner. Nikola pins it
up against the wall. 50/50 puck. Lindell joins the frey. Knander there as well. Knander has
it. Gave it away to Lina. The Montreal Canadian on his home rink. That to rain it follows,
dives to the corner as he jumped over the top of Rodin. Now Elias Lynholm sends it through
several players. Armanson with hustle denies icing. Three minutes to go in the second.
Transition chance here for Barkov. Across. Barkoff with a drop. Ranted it. Spin
cycle across to Ma. Walks in. Score. Was it Kako that got the deflection off the draw?
Men Paulo fires one wide. Olim Mata skates onto it behind the net to Granlin. Checked by Forsley
protects the puck though. Move to Aaho. Further to Mat Paulo that was blocked on the way in.
Echo can’t clear. Ope hints down to his knees to play the puck to an area and Aaho skates
onto it. But that will end the period. And Ray, the game we hope for as Knander backhands
in to begin the third period. But is there more pressure on one than the other
as we begin the third period? Well,   I would think it’s on the Swedes as the the Fins
are consistently the underdog in this. Granted, it centers just missing KO as those two
almost combined again. But as always, the fins are a rock in your shoe. They just
never go away. Nicola with the outlet. And there is Barkoff back on the ice looking full
steam after he limps to the dressing room after period number two. So that is good to see for
the Panthers captain and team Finland’s captain. A mustwin to stay alive in the standings for
both. off the skates of Ericette. Yoki Haru meets him in the corner. Taken back by Ericette.
Look to center to Raymond. That was denied up top. Forsling winds it deep. Stepping in was Yoki
Haru. Keeps it moving. Same side to Rope. Hints. Tape to tape to Granlin. Steps away from the
check of Forsling and turned it over to Erikson with a stab in the corner.   Brandon pops it up in the air. Tried to
keep it same side but lost it. Now Raquel with a long reach. Brandon feathers it ahead.
Controls off the body and dumped deep by Aaho. Cruising is Carlson. Ahead to Raquel. Denied by
Los Rainan. Loose at the Swedish line. Forsber couldn’t get past Beccan. Anton Lundell controls.
Slendell moves in, shoots, save, made, gathering it in. They gave the goal to Barkov. It’s 33. And
now the Swedes a golden opportunity to break the tie. Knander loads one out to Headman. Banks it
back to Knander as they try to get the power play set up. Aggressive penalty killing by the Finn so
far. Saucered across. Knander to Heedman. Raymond up to Hedmond. Those two play catch. Raymond out
to Zabanich. Bouncing puck off his stick. Tied up by Lindell. He protects it all the way around to
Knander. Waiting for it at the right point. The Maple Leaf hears it from the Canadians fans. Seam
pass. Raymond Edmond thought about a one-time. Now it’s Knander. The booze again as Knander gets it
to the goal line. Knander behind the net. Chips to Raymond. One-time. Headman broke his stick
right in half and has to head to the bench. Close to rain and clears. That’s a That’s a minute
on the power play and just the one shot attempt. The Headman broken stick. All puck possession.
Never left the zone. Never got the puck to the net. Edmonton rags it back. Allows Raymond to
pass. Hopping off the bench is Carlson as Person puts it behind. Rimmed right back to Carlson to
the half wall. Elias Patterson and Carlson now. Lucas Raymond again on the flank. Straightaway
Carlson at wrist shot blocked off skates in front. Sabat could not beat the pins to the puck and Ma
clears. 24 seconds left on the Swedish power play. Ricard Raquel off to Jasper Brat. Gets a return.
Person banks it. Raquel moves it into the skates of Forsber. Close to Raan lost his stick.
Shoulders a man in the corner. He’s got it back. The power play now over. Back at five
aside. Out of the box is Barkov. Catches it. Barkoff moves in to the back hand. Just missed
the net. Read perfectly by Finland with Barkov timing it up as he exited the box, but he couldn’t
hit the net. Gives it up. Good shot from Moranton and rattles around the glass and all the way up.
Boy Ray was that a great chance. What a great catch of the pass by Bararkov on his backhand.
His Florida Panther teamly Niko Mikola made the pass and Barkoff in clean. Randon in first to
the puck. Waffled in the corner by Broaddin Mech ahead through the skates of Arvinson. Mada
leaves it for Yoki Haru. Banks it past Kako and all the way back out. Nine minutes gone by.
Third period of a 3-3 tie and a must-win for both. [Applause] The first border rivalry game
of the day. The US and Canada play at 8:00 p.m. tonight in what will be an electric bell center
here in Montreal. Branland floats in. Omar keeps it to the same side. Branland checked in the
corner by Raymond. Raymond escapes. Dangles through center. It’s Jasper Brad. Brat sizes
up. Mton Paulo. Piouettes. A snow shower on the half wall. Lost it to Granlin. Chipped ahead.
AO off his stick and offside at the Swedish line. 520 to go in regulation time. That puck loose.
Rob hence takes the carum off Carlson and nearly roofed it. This is one of the changes they’ve made
here. The suits. They’ve got Kempe with Zabanagad and Knander. Sabanagad across. Shoots it. Save.
Made. The rebound right on the stick of Kempe, but he couldn’t control it. Forsling
banks one deep past Savannah Jadette and home activates. Puts it behind the
net. Mada away from Savannah Jet. Ahead to Muel Granland. Banked ahead. AO with room.
AO moves into the backhand. Save made by Omar. The rebound skated onto by Hint. He sets a man
up. That’s Line. And another save made by Lena. Anton Lundell takes the outlet pass. Skies
it in. Omar guides it to the corner. Line is there. Lucas Raymond instead out to the red
liner. Obakan drags it back. Men Paulo banks it ahead. Touched in by L. First to the puck. Lost to
Rainan behind the net with strength. Leverages it to the corner and Michelaws it around. Headedman
moves. Under four minutes to go. Nice tangle by Jasper Brad. Still controls ahead to Erikson
and wound deep. Lankin off to Lindell. And now Michelin chopping at Erikson as those two have
to be separated. Barkoff crosses over and just lost control of the puck out in front. Just
missing was Kako. Forsling can’t get it past Barkov. Here’s Ranton and shoots set that just
goes glancing wide. Pops up in the air and it’s gloved down and Elias Lynholm through center
hands to Arbitson goes to the net. That shot sails well wide. Carams out to the left point
side was the play as Forsling just across the line. Checked by Ranson. Nasty. A little bit of
bad blood here. Ray Barkoff and now kneelander on the draw to the left of Lincoln. Barkoff wins
it. Lindell lobs it out. Headedman waiting for a bouncing puck and he wins that battle with
Rantin. Clears the zone. Kempe off the skates of Carlson. Lindell creates some space. Rantin
rink wide pass. Nice reach by Kako all the way out to play the puck. Off to the glass was pops
up in the air and Kempe behind the net. Carlson now with some open ice. Outlets Headman Kempe
off to Knander. Knander tied up. Part of the crowd hoping for a call but no arm goes in
the air. AO off the feet from Barkov. Barkov a reach. Checked in the corner by Heman. Down
to the final minute of regulation time. TSCO. And now Jper Brad speeding through center after
his own chip. Holy ma leaves it at the half wall for Aaho and gets a return. 43 seconds to go
before overtime. Ma snaps a pass right. Grlin with a touch. Echome with a gather. It’s ahead
for Bra. Protects it at the red line. Lucas Raymond brings it in. Raymond to the goal line.
Checked hard by Esselindell. 25 seconds to go. It pops free. There’s Kako. He’s tied up by
Forsber. Knocked out of midair by Raymond and right back out center circle. Forsling
retreats. 10 seconds to go before we head to overtime. Forsber gains the red line.
Brings it across the finish line. Turned right back by Mika. This game between these
two rivals cannot be settled in 60 minutes. Key as always this faceoff bark off one
of the games best against Sabanagad. Possession to Raymond who brings it in over to
Zabanagad. Kick save made by Lanken. Terrific start to overtime for Sweden. And now
Barkoff the other way. Barkoff drops. Ransin knocked off the puck. Oh, good
play by Zan. Zanich with a great check. What a stop by Lankin. And Raymond
delays and heads off for a change. Forsling on the back pedal. Jasper
Brat and Knander hop over the boards. Billy Knander through center. Accelerates to   the backand wide first to the puck and
he’ll float it back to the neutral zone. Jesper Brad drops to Knander. Knander again
gains the zone. Here is Jesper Brad. Dangles in the slot. Circles the net. Brad to
kneelander. That shot blocked and now Aaho with possession for Finland. [Applause]
Rupe hence as Lindell change. Muel Granland. Eco Mikola hop over the boards across
the line. Granland. Granland circles. Granland tried to get one back to Mika.
A good stick by Forsling. Takes it away. Minute and a half gone by in overtime. Again,
it is a 10-minute threeon three. Flying down the ice is Kempe. Kemp around Gremlin
to the net. Lank it and makes the save.   didn’t know where the puck was and it
floated right through the blue paint. Back the other way comes Granland.
Nicola to the net, shoots, scores it for Finland in overtime. We also ask in the spirit of this great
game that unites everyone that you kindly respect the national anthems and the
players that represent each country. [Music] Now for the singing of the national
anthems of the United States and Canada. Please welcome Warrant Officer David Reno
of the Royal Canadian Air Force Band. Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early
light, what so proudly we held at the twilight last we brought stripes and bright
stars through the perilous spy. night or the ramp parts we watched were so gallently
streaming and the rockets red glare. The bombs bursting in air gave proof through
the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star spangled [Music] yet?
[Music] [Applause] For the land of the free and the home of the brave [Applause] fans, in honor of the 60th anniversary of
our nation’s flag, Tonight we want you, our fans, to sing O Canada. All right, sing
with me everybody. Are you ready? Oh Canada, [Music] the flood of the earth. Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] Yeah. Heat. [Applause] Oh yeah. [Music] [Applause] Oh, [Applause] we stand on God. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] In celebration of the four nations face
off and in the spirit of international.   competition. Team captains will now
exchange commemorative manners. [Music] [Music] Get ready. [Music] the team captains with the exchange of gifts and
we’re just moments away from the faceoff. Time for the Honda starting goalies. One area it would seem
the United States has the edge is in net. Connor Hellabuk’s the best goalender in the world right
now. His 34 wins, eight more than anybody else in the NHL this season. At the other end, Jordan
Bennington has not had a great year for St. Louis, but he’s been a big game player in the
past, including winning the Stanley Cup   with the Blues in 2019 as a rookie when he was
sensational in their game seven victory in Boston. Gord Dwire and Shawn Abear are the referees.
Ryan Daisy and Kyle Merchesen are the linesmen and this four nation space up is underway and the   gloves are off. Hands you
can chuck at Brandon Hegel. skated away as he got back up employing the
crowd to get even more vocally involved if that’s possible. And this start if you
can call it that. And we even started reminiscent of the old days. Little champ
Matthew Kachchuck drove right off the hop before we’re going to see both Kachchuck
brothers sitting in the same penalty box. Well, Brady’s out there to help match the United
States physicality. Brings a lot of grit, a lot of sandpaper. This was ex This
was set. Here they come. Right. You’re   right. Right before the first Chuck
fight. This was set up. Here you go. Brady gets the better of this one. Sam Bennett, eight years a teammate of Matthew
Kachchuck. When the first face off was about to hit the ice, Brady Kachchuck yelled across to
Bennett. He said, “Hey, Benny, after this we’re going.” And so the change was made. Bennett
jumped on the ice and 3 seconds, two fights, and we thought it would be a wild night here
in Montreal. We’re off to this start. Well, Matthew Kachchuck was asked after the game
against Finland about the booing of the US Anthem. He said, “I don’t like it.” Team USA said
they use it as a motivator. Coaches and players on both sides said they hoped it wouldn’t happen
tonight. It did. And it’s helped set the tone. Charlie Makavoy put one on net. Now we’re 9
seconds in. We had a fight two seconds in. Another one. One second later. This is like 1996
when this building opened up with the World Cup. Three tilts in 9 seconds. John Tortoell, assistant coach on
team USA. Doesn’t take much to get   him fired up. Pulsa’s running
high all over the building. So, we played 9 seconds and three off for each
team. Mike Sullivan is the head coach of Team USA. Ray Kachchuck still animated as he takes
his place in the penalty box. Let’s bring in our referee Dave Jackson. Dave, if you’re one of
these two referees, how do you handle this? Well, Sean, just like they did. I mean, their
adrenaline’s going. This is just awesome   hockey. I’m jealous I’m not out there. It’s so
great. Sydney Crosby out there with Josh Morrisy, who plays up high tonight in the absence of Kale
Mar, Nathan McKinnon, the other member of this   five. Crosby shot down and given a little extra
by Charlie More. Mory’s drive is handled by Helock and right arm got TS and he exchanges sticks with
Charlie Mackoy forced to put the brakes on by Devontes. Now Eel trying to center Travis Sanheim
playing in his first action of this tournament. Got a stick on it. Adam Fox from the point with
Braden point managed to get it in deeper. Scaled up by Sanheim. Now Noah Hennean put it behind
the net for the United States. Fox pitches in along the far wall. Touched out by Mark Stone. And
Ray seems like everybody’s caught their breath. Yeah. Little bit of settle in here. What will be
interesting there’s Thomas Harley who wasn’t on team Canada about an hour and a half ago. He makes
his entrance into the game. It will be interesting to see, can the US forch check out what is now
an inexperienced Canadian defense. Of course, the US was playing and is playing again tonight
without their best defenseman, Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Conucks out due to injury. Jake
Gel won the battle with Harley. Matthews got it in deeper. The centering pass played away by
Brad Marshan. Brock Favors out on defense now for the Americans with Jacob Slavven. This is another
change that the US made in that first game about midway through. They put Favor with Slave. Favor
looked nervous early. Seemed to settle in nicely once he paired with Slav. Confident that he would
just adjust as he had to as the game went along. Canada of the home team. John Cooper has the
last change. Sydney Crosby goes right to Stone. Beautiful stop by and he stopped the follow as
well. Austin Matthews centering the line now for the United States between Jake Guessel and Jack
Hughes. Charlie Mackoy. Matthews missed Hughes, but Zack Winsky’s there. He was terrific
for Team USA against the Fins. He had three assists. Here’s McDavid on the move. McDavid
scores and Canada leads one to nothing. Blazing speed by McDavid. There are two players
from the 2010 gold medal Canadian winning team. Sydney Crosby and Drew Dowy. There’s Douty 89
from the LA Kings. It’s McDavid in full flight. It is not fair when he has a run up of speed to
go through the middle of the ice. No. Chance for Mackoy to shut him down. The back hand, the
elevation, a one- nothing Canadian lead and this place explodes. The hard trophy each of
the last four years. Jack Hughes has some room through it right across the top of the crease.
Adam Fox drives one just wide and Noah Hannison couldn’t get to the wall to get the rebound.
has to chase it all the way to his own end. Now Hughes behind Gel and it’s an icing against
Team USA. They’re a great rivalry against Sweden today. Here’s Hanathan. Jack Hughes get shut
down by Josh Morrisy. Martyr covered the point, but his Toronto teammate Austin Matthews took
it away and the American captain in on the for check on Morrisy. Now some help from Hughes.
Hughes and Matthews playing together. Each wants the number one overall pick in the NHL
draft. Bennington turned one aside. Maven got it to the neutral zone. Taken back in his own
end by Makavoy. Three wide to Brady Kachchuck. Touched off to his brother Matthew and a pass
saved by Bennington. Anthony Cerelli clears for the Canadians. Agel is held off by Eel.
It’s carried across the line by Braden Point. Sent in deeper by Hegel. It’s an all Tampa
Bay Lightning line for Canada with Point Celli and Hegel. That point slides over to
the wing as Celli stays in the middle. And this move made when they’ve got Sam Bennett
in the lineup instead of Travis Ki tonight. Great wide pass Aaron from Brock
Nelson. And it’s shot in by Seth Jarvis. One- nothing Canada on a McDavid goal in
a blur. Kyle Connor tried to step down the slot. Got stopped. Slavven dunked it back in
a delayed offside. Taken down against the US. Harley played it ahead from Marsh. One thing the US should be mindful of, Bington
handles the puck as well as anybody. Oh, what a hit. Big check by Makoy. McDavid said,
“You’re not going to start flying this time around.” Whoa! He stepped right into the lane and
took the ice away from McDavid. And here comes McDavid again. Taves played it back for Reinhardt.
Tried to return to Taves. Played away by Jack Eel across the line. played it down low.
They score. Jake Gensel ties it for the United States on a weak
goal given up by Bennington. Jake Gensel scored in the first game. Gensel
scores in the second game. Previously,   McDavid thumped on the boards by Makavoy.
What a great hit. Watch Jack Eel’s hands. He takes the puck deep into his feet and he lays
this beautiful feather pass right here flat. So Gensel doesn’t have to do anything with
it’s already flat on his stick. He catches,   releases, beats Bennington under
the pad and the US comes back, ties the game up 1-1. Gotcha. Worenki looking
at 10 on the power play. Matthews put it right on. Rebound for Bington managed to smother it.
Another win by Matthews. One of the best face off men in the league. doesn’t get enough attention
for that. Eel shot rebound free Gel denied and Kach was right there at the top of the crease
as well. Matthew that is yeah that Gensel shot hit one of the Canadian defenseman. I like the
US power play here not fiddling around with it on the outside. It’s a shotgenerated power play
that had two good chances. Four shots on goal total on this man advantage which is down to 35
seconds remaining. Winsky did well to keep it in. Matthew Kachchuck in the corner for Eel
Kell. Turns and fires and it’s turned aside by Pennington. Warinski snaps it toward the net
that got deflected out in front. Kensel broke his stick. He heads off. Waves a replacement on. It’s
Matt Bulby. 10 seconds on the United States power play. They’re tied at one. centering pass wound
up right on the stick of Matthews and wound up going off the side of the net. Matthew and Chuck
went down. The crowd loved that. Out of the box comes Crosby. McDavid sends it wide. Both teams
at full strength. 5 minutes to go first period. McDavid for Canada and Gensel the equalizer
for the US. On the move, Jack Hughes, one of the great stars in the NHL, still just 23 years
old. He got rattled behind the net by Drew Dowy. Now Taves turned it over badly to Bulby. Hughes
sent it through Brady Kachchuck. And now Dowy, he got slammed into the wall by Brady Kachchuck.
He was not going to let that chance go without a contact on Dowy. And it was solid. Crosby
surveys off the stick of his fellow Pearl Harbor, Nova Scotia product and great friend McKinnon.
Thrilled to be playing together. Slave block the centering drive. McKenna centers it. Hell with a
stick out. United States struggling to clear. JT Miller and now Dylan Lin captain of the Detroit
Red Wings. One of the great players in the NHL, but a fourth line player of this tournament with
so much talent on both sides. Knocked down by Gensel and taken back by Marian. Another Nova
Scotian. They set the tone early. He scored the early goal after Crosby assisted on the McKinnon
tally to open the game. Matthews lost the puck up high. Now it’s in the neutral zone. played ahead
by Gensel. Noah Hannneathan. Back hands stickked aside by Pennington. Jarvis double team. Survived
a hit from two Americans, Hannah and Matthews. Mory the other way. He got whipped down and Gel
is going off. A tripping call against Jake Gensel. And Canada goes back on the power play with 313
to go in the first period. Tied at one. Josh Morsy And then the familiar forcable forwards McDavid
for Morsy McKinnon cross ice a McDavid and it’s frozen by Heluck. A good thing with Crosby right
there. That was the first shot on goal for Canon in 11 and 1/2 minutes. Makavoy a takeaway.
JT Miller short-handed has Troche with him. his closest friend JT Miller and Vincent Trochek
grew up together playing together in Pittsburgh. McDavid managed to get away from Slavven. Crosby
back to Morrisy. Two and a half to go in the period. Centering pass winds up back with Morrisy
trying to set up a tip and Karen to McDavid. McDavid fires over the net. Might have been
tipped by Slavven. Now Makavoy battling Reinhardt. taking down a minute to go on the team Canada
power play. Troche a clear and Mike Sullivan gets four new penalty killers out there. You mentioned
that tip by Slave and he’s had a fantastic first period. He’s a defensive eraser. I think one of
the best in the game as a defensive defenseman, a great penalty killer. Long reach at 63.
Jacob Slavven has put it out in front and play was stopped at point blank range by Helmuck
who’s made a couple of great a stops here in the opening 20 minutes still 25 a man up for Canada
Dowy on the second power play unit Mitch Martner forced back by Hanathan Hannathan in favor of the
defenders pointed in the slot deflected by Favor Jarvis to stone center pass at point blank range
stopped again by a great set up by Martyr. The power play is over just in the nick of time for
the United States. Stone cross up gathered in by Martner off the wall. Gensel came out. He stays on
the ice. A minute to go and a wildly entertaining first period. United States and Canada tied at
one. Gensel slides it in. Both teams change up. Muro banked it ahead. Played in by Cerelli.
Bennett shoves down Adam Fox on the floor. Check. Interception by Taves. Baro flipped
it toward the net. Poked ahead by Slavven. Matthews got it out. Taves walks it back in.
Bennett. Bad save by Pel. Certainly going to win it again this year, but he had not been
good in major postseason competition in the NHL playoffs. Two and 12 in his last 14. He
was dreadful against Colorado last year. They lost in the first round to Jets to the Avalanche
in five games. Not dreadful in this tournament. lob the length of the ice by Kachchuck. There
would have been icing, but the period has ended. Ray, in the National Hockey League this year,
the entire schedule, there have been a total of five games in which there have been three fights.
That’s the most in any game this year. It took us 9 seconds tonight to get three fights. The Chuck
brothers channeling their dad, Keith. Reminiscent of 1996. Second period underway. Each team at full
strength. ESPN bet is the official sports book of ESPN. An official partner of the National Hockey
League. Paro, one of the combatants. He tangled with JT Miller. Kept in by Reinhardt. Point
shoved against the wall by Jackel. Good work by Great Point to get it in deeper. Heel centers and
a great chance from close range by Sam Reinhardt. The Americans look to counter. Makavoy’s long pass
off the stick of Matthew Kachchuck. And Team USA gets a line change off Martyr and free in the
neutral zone. And now Jack Hughes hoping to play in this tournament with his brother Quinn,
the great defenseman of the Vancouver Kucks,   but he’s out due to injury. Kale Mar not
playing tonight for Canada due to illness. Finland dealing with serious losses to
their defense core, particularly Miro,   Hasten. So I guess Ray, it’s fair for at least
three out of the four teams. The losses on D. Yeah. And they’re enormous losses, not just
their their talent, but all three of those   players play upwards of 26 27 minutes a night.
Each each country misses those players a great deal. Thomas Harley’s in tonight. He’s on
the ice with Drew Dowy for Canada right now. Crosby couldn’t stop it. Now it’s free in
the corner and wedged out by Dylan Larkin, captain of the Detroit Red Wings, eight of
Michigander. Huge throw for him to clear the sea for the Wings. Crosby center trying to
get it to Stone. Baldi got a stick in there. Devon Taves got it into the corner for Crosby.
The oldest player in this tournament at age 37 was certainly showing no signs of age. Here’s
McKinnon out in front. Deflected away by Hannipan and sent to the net by Taves. Played in deeper by
Winsky. And now Bennett the other way. Sam Bennett has room in the circle and a pass save by Helluck
making it look easy. Troj with Connor trailing. Connor centers and it ricochets off a skate into
the corner. Marshan trying to counter. Slavven stopped that and has it back from Warinski. Jacob
Slave an alltime point score among defenseman in Hurricane Wher history. Good shot. A nice stop by
Bennington. And the follow by Slave and stopped by Bennington. One handed by Dowy to point. He tried
to feed Hegel. takes it off the wall. Hegel shot rebound off of Helabuk and put on net by Celli and
Helabuk stopped that one as well. Celli played it back to the line for Harley ranked wide too hot
to handle for point. Turned the other way by Jack Eel. Kachchuck rolls it in. The Americans in the
midst of the chain. Harley left it for Drew Dowy. doubt he wanted to be on this team so badly.
He fractured his ankle in the preeason as you   mentioned earlier. Sean has played just six games
to get him back in the LA lineup. They’re playing him 27 minutes a night and he’s ready to go.
Matthew’s nifty move around his Toronto teammate Mitch Martyr and now taken by Conor McDavid who
scored the Canada goal to make it one to nothing. He had not scored a goal in any of his previous
four NHL international competitions. Fox goes down to his own zone. Plenty of room for McDavid
trying to pass it off and a great play by Hannov. Reinhardt would have been alone in front the
other way for help. Sends it on net. Bennington sent it into the corner. Matthews will be first
there. McDavid had it taken back by Hughes. Matthews Warren short side try stopped
by Bennington. Both goalies sharp in the first 5 minutes of this second period. Matthews
center didn’t get great wood on that. Makavoy races up from the point. Survived the check
from Reinhardt. Devon Taves up and out over   the head of Dylan Larkin. Larkin and Winsky
back after. They’re thrilled to be teammates again. They’re the best of friends. They’re
roommates at the University of Michigan. Here is Larkin and his whole hockey life in Michigan
development program, the University of Michigan, the AHL. And now with the wings down low, Lin
stopped might have hit the post or Bennington might have got it as he went across. Either way
have called an opportunity for Larkin and he did not convert. Miller took it back for the
Americans. Went past Lin. Here’s Matt Bulby. Back to the line for Slavven. That is blocked
by Morrisy. Favor still has it. Pressured back by Stone. Centering pass intercepted by McKinnon
as Larkin threw it out in front. Dylan Lens at the end of a long shift. He’s been out there for
nearly a minute now. Paro. It’s touched off by Stone to McKinnon. Nathan McKinnon. NHL’s leading
point score at this point in the year. It’s an 87. That’s four more than anybody else. Deflected in
by Brock Nelson, who played sparingly so far these first two games. Poked away by Nelson. Kyle Connor
out there with Troche as the other forward and taken back by Sam Bennett. Fox, nice pinch, but no
help there in the blue. And speaking of the blue, how terrific are these uniforms, R on all
four teams? They they did a great job. You   know what I like? They’re all simple. They’re
all clean. They’re all sharp trying to send Matthew Kachchuck away. Harley broke it up. You
see the Mackoy hit on McDavid earlier. Of course, the three fights early. This has just been a
spectacular three days of hockey. Baldi put it on net. Canada in round one against Sweden showed
that buyin with the 25 block shot by far the most of any of the four teams in the first game. The
USA did it with the hits with 32 far and away the most among the four teams in their first game.
Controlled by the United States. Makavoy played it ahead. Brock Nelson didn’t get it in very deep.
He got bumped at the red line. Harley cross ice pass McKinnon. Played back by Hannneathan. And
the teams exchanging turnovers. Like Crosby might have been offside as he took the pass from Stone.
Now Dowy trying to get away from Nelson. McKennon centers. By the time it got to Crosby, he was at
a tough angle along the goal line. Kyle Connor rink wide for Troche. Tried to shovel it in.
It got stopped, but then it was taken away by Connor. Now Troche stopped by Stone. Warensky.
The cross for Adam Fox. Has it back from Fox. Bari taken away by Stone and it’s cleared by
Douty. Baldi shot it back in. Another of the youngest players in this tournament at age 23
out of Boston College. Another product of the US developmental program. And the play offside
as Canada tried to go into the ozone. Indeed, hockey royalty all over this building tonight,
including on the ice. Some have been saying this is the best American team that they’ve
ever put together for an international   competition. I think Keith Kachchuck and
some of his teammates on that 96 World Cup of hockey team might dispute that. Pretty
close. I mean, you’re splitting hairs there. Hall of Famers all over that 96 team. Game is
settled in after a wild start. We’re under eight minutes to go in the second period. Tied at one.
Hunter McDavid the goal for Canada. Jake Kessle for the United States. David was not much of a
factor in the win against Lena. Just one shot on goal where he carried the puck around
at 72 touches more than any Canadian folk. That was flipped over the net by Reinhardt.
Retrieved by McDavid. Back to the line for   Reco. And now McDavid. Weird tangled with
Hamilton who’s been terrific tonight for the US after some shaky moments in round
one. That’s the best shift for Crosby, McKinnon, and Stone in this game. And they
come close a couple of times. There’s Crosby. Now it’s Larkin with a burst
of speed scores. Dylan Larkin in transition gives the United States
the lead for the first time tonight. Larkin elevated in the lineup here. A few more
minutes today. A turnover and a quick up by Matt Baldy. Baldi finds Larkin with Miller driving the
net and occupying the back checker. Lurin makes a perfect shot. Head up the whole way. His delivery
is over the pad and under the blocker. 24 23 goals in the regular season for Larkin and his pinpoint
marker has given the US a 2-1 lead. Canada got stuck on a change and that opened up the twoonone.
Larkin had room to look, pick the spot and then deliver. And here he comes with some room. Bari
trying to get there and Hel the stop on the high shot of high character that’s been on display here
again. Here’s a McKinnon trying to charge to the bottom of the circle. Got stopped by Sway kept
in by T through a crowd through a stone screen and Helluck managed to stop it. Four minutes to go
second period. Two to one for the United States. Crosby across for Sanheim of Elhorn, Manitoba.
Population 455 last [Music] in the corner for Stone. Captain Vegas Golden Knights.
Played up by Sven. Gensel try to run it down. And now Pareo with Gensel right
on his heels. Morris seen the most ice time among Canadian defenseman tonight in the
absence of Kale Mar out due to illness tonight banked it ahead for Matthews off his
skate sent in by Charlie Mackoy who’s playing for his father-in-law in
this tournament Sullivan is Charlie Makavoy’s father Charlie’s wife might be
interested smarter shot deflected wide. And here’s Macka Boy who just a couple of weeks
ago became a dad. First grandson for Mike Sullivan and his wife Kate, her second grandchild, Reese
Michael. And Mike Sullivan looking forward to getting back to his hometown of Boston for a lot
of reasons, including getting to see his grandson   in person for the first time. The grandparent
business is a good business. I’m telling you, it’s the best and you accelerate. Here’s Hegel
centering and Troek got in the way. It’s a 10 and four Celli under two and a half to go. Second
period on the free Sean really impressed with the US checking game here. There’s just not a lot
of room for Canada as they try. They’re going   to have to try obviously to find the tying goal.
Well, it’s being played at the pace that you would think favors the United States. They have
a lot of speed on their team, but they don’t want to turn it into a trap meet. They set the tone
on Thursday night with the physicality against the Fins and that has carried over and Canada’s
matched a little bit more hits tonight now. They   had the entire game against Sweden in round one.
Fox tied up on Hegel. It came free in the side of the net for Bennett. Pops in the air and is
banked ahead but not out by Adam Fox. [Applause] Marian in on the for check. So Hanovan had
to send it along quickly and stayed up on the   dasher for a bit. Father-in-law, son-in-law
here, his player and coach. They have great appreciation for each other as people and as
hockey player and coach. Here’s McDavid broken up by favor three in the corner and now it’s
his trying to wind up with Austin Matthews, the 27year-old American captain. gets booed
here for a couple of reasons. He’s the captain of the American squad and he plays for the much
despised here in Montreal Toronto Maple Leafs. Matthews twice a 60 goal score. One of only nine
players in NHL history to do that. Sent toward the net by Hughes. It’s a slot at the feet of Matthews
and sent away by McDavid to McKinnon. McDavid heads off. McKinnon waiting for help on a line
change. Finds it from Mitch Martyr. 27 seconds in the period. McKinnon. Harley backand pass. Downey
a blast and that’s blocked by Miller. Harley might have been able to shoot that. He spinned it to
Drew Dowy. And that was a great block by Miller as the US was scrambling and trying for one more
rush, but Harley had it poked away at the line. 5 seconds to go in the period and the United
States is going to take the lead into the third period. A win in this one, they’re guaranteed a
spot with a win in regulation in the final of this tournament Thursday night in Boston. And Ray, what
do you look for as we spin it forward toward this   third period? Well, obviously it’s the way the
Americans will defend or the way the Canadians are going to be able to attack. The Americans want to
defend forward. Don’t spend much time in your end of the ice. They’ve done a terrific job checking
through 40 minutes. Nate McKinnon has not been a factor at all. Crosby pretty quiet as well. Really
McDavid the most dangerous of the Canadian stars. I think this has been a terrific 40 minutes
for the US. Austin Matthews does not have a shot on goal for the Americans. Both teams at full
strength as the third period begins. Here’s Jack Eel with Brady Kachchuck heading for the net off
Bennington. He snatches it out of midair. Here’s Emily Kaplan. Yeah. Talk to Pete D’Vorah who’s on
Canada’s bench about Thomas Harley and his message to him tonight. And he basically said, “Relax. It
is not lost on him, but he has not skated before today since their last game on February 8th. And
he’s supposed to be on a beach in Mexico right   now.” D’Vorah told me he didn’t play a lot in the
first period, felt much more comfortable in the second. And here in the third, he feels like he’s
doing great and said Thomas Harley is now going   to be a big part of this. Now Harley can really
skate and he can get up into play. Canada’s going to need another layer of offense to try and break
down the Americans as they look for a tying goal. And Harley had 15 goals last year. He’s a guy that
can jump quickly. So to see if John Cooper and his staff change up any of their line combinations,
try to get something going. Work well for Mike Sullivan in round one against Finland about
halfway through the game when he made some significant changes. Bangs ahead by Dowy. He’s
still on defense with Harley. Hughes had it poked away by Dowy. Here’s McDavid with some speed
again. Hanneathan stopped the rush. Canadians again in the midst of a change. Here’s Crosby
centering and a good stick by Kensel to deflect the pass from his former Pittsburgh Penguins
teammate. McKennon sidestep. Makavoy drops it back and a good stick by JT Miller but kept in
by Devon Taves. Travis Sanheim locked behind the net. Played back to Taves. Crisply across
for Sanheim. Sanheim to the side of the net. It’s free out in front. Cleared from harm by Matt
Mory. Banked ahead by Charlie Makavoy to JT Miller against the United States. Played back by Crosby.
Morsy. Tough angle. Hit the flex high in the air. Batted out of the air by Miller. Kept it in for
Canada. McDavis centering pass tipped up in the air by Matt Bulby. Miller off the icing. McDavid
and Crosby out together with with Mark Stone. So there’s your first change, Sean, that you were
talking about. McDavid, Crosby, and now Hughes. Dan has had the edge territorially here in the
first 2 and 1/2 minutes. And the crowd cheers for   Harley’s hit on Jack Hughes. Harley from Syracuse,
New York, but his parents are from Edmonton. And he’s playing for team Canada tonight. Played
for them once in the World Juniors. That puck hit one of the linesmen at the offensive line
for the United States. Here’s McKinnon. And now Kyle Connor couldn’t
get it past Mitch Martner. Benson Trocheek on the draw with Seth
Jarvis. And here’s Brock Nelson. His entire career with the New York Islanders,
but he can be a free agent at the end of the   year. Some speculation he might be moving
on to the deadline. Marian and a bad save by Helabuk. He’s made some good ones tonight,
but through these two games, Team USA’s done   a nice job of limiting golden opportunities
from the opponent. Sanheim on the net again. It’s free time of the net and the centering
attempt taken back by Fever. Jacob Slavven and Brady Kachchuck. Five more hits
for Kachster. Two per carries leading   the game. Brother Matthew put it into the
pads of Bennington who was sprawling but able to make the stop for McDavid. For
Stone Mory spin move by Crosby. He hits down low where he does his best work. Crosby
had it taken away. Intercepted by Zack Warky and played out by Mackaoy, product
of Boston University. McDavid. Nearly 5 minutes gone by. Third period. After a
wild start to this one with three fights in the first nine seconds, it has really settled in now
as Team USA has taken the crowd out of the game. The US has checked, but they haven’t got the
pump down the other end of the ice very often. 11 and 12 minutes with nothing offensively
after the Dylan Lin goal. There’s McKinnon, another of the greatest skaters in the
world. That rush was stopped by Slavven struggling to clear. Baldi gloves it out as
he was playing without a stick. And there’s   Slavven again. Right. So McKinnon’s
going to take that to the net except he realizes Slavven shut that lane down. He
continues to quietly do a really great job. He’s a tremendous defensive defenseman. Here’s
Eel shoved and it ricochets right out in front. Sydney Crosby established the zone. Perico tried
to join the rush. Now it’s played ahead to Hughes working on Morrisy. Help coming. It’s Gel with an
aerial pass. He couldn’t ban it out of the air. Gentle turned it back toward the net. Stopped
at the top of the crease by Moresy and Paro banked it out. Taken back by Matthews. Born in
California, but Austin grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona. Lucky him. Faber played it past
Connor. A sloppy icing call. Point kept it in for the moment. Kachchuck rolled it out.
sent right back by point through his Tampa   teammate Hegel. Adam Fox to Noah Hannifan.
Another key change the USA staff made. David Quinn runs the defense and they changed up
the deep pairings midway through that game. And if it had them playing with Favor, they’ve
both been better tonight. The two to one lead, second of their six unanswered goals after the
Fins led one to nothing. I guess here’s our here’s our answer to whether Matthew Kachchuck’s
going to play here. JT Miller’s out on the wing   with Eel and Brady Kachchuck. Matthew Kachchuck
still on the bench, but if he can’t go, you know, there’s something significantly wrong with him. He
said after the game against Finland, he’s waited nine years to play in this game against Canada.
played around by Dowy and steered out by Celli. [Applause] Kachchuck Brady that is send it into the zone. Taves forced back by Matthews. USA with the
leads, but no shots on goal for Matthews or Eel and they impact the game in many ways.
Maran hard work to get it to the bottom of the circle before he went down. And for
Gensel, he had the first US goal tonight. Marian off the glove of Slave and he got blastered
by Penn as he blow it off to Hughes. Gensel banked it off the glass and icing is the call against
Team USA. Nearly midway through the third period, still two to one. RC off the draw, has it back
from Crosby and taken back by Matthews. I guess the question some would have is if he has a
medical issue, why does he go to the locker   room to get help? Maybe he just thinks or
knows there’s nothing they can do to help whatever to do and he wants to watch the game.
That’s he’s here for his team, right? I mean,   better on TV. I don’t know. Even I debate that.
Yes, I would as well. But he just, you know, you want to sit here and support. If you if
you can’t if you can’t do anything about it, if you know you’re not going back in,
you might as well stay here, I guess. Of course, still work to be done here tonight.
The good news for Team USA, if they win tonight in regulation, they’re automatically in the
final. So, they wouldn’t have to play Chuck on Monday night in a must-win situation. Harley
raised off Helok behind the net. Chris Krider is the extra forward for team USA. He’s not played
yet in these two games. Talented player with a ton of experience. McKinnon takes the hand off.
Harley does. Threw it to the net and hit away in the middle of the circle and he can looked
like he couldn’t make up his mind what to do. So Matthews goes the other way with Kyle Connor.
Matthews pried it loose, but it wound up with Stone to Mner. 845 to go. Third period. McDavid
started the scoring for Canada. Gensel and Larkin for Team USA. Celli fell down. He scored 20 goals
this year. His career high. Sliding play by Fox. He’s been better than he was against the Fins.
Heel had it blocked up high by Troche in the corner. Cerilli whipped it around. Sanheim Jarvis.
Cerilli couldn’t stop it in the corner and it’s chipped out by Troche. And the clock becoming the
enemy of team Canada. Near 8 minutes to go. Taves had it deflect high of the air by Favor. Jarvis
sent it toward the net. Blocked by JT Miller. US living dangerously, spending a lot of
time in this third period in their own zone. Just on is Moresy. 10 years now with the Winnipeg Jets. Here’s McDavid. Lost it as he went
flying across the red line. Morrisy on defense now with Perico Point dumped
it into the corner. He’ll be first there ahead of Slavven around. Let it go. Morris found in
front and McDavid. Stopped from the slot by Connor Habib. Feels a bit like the USA is on
its heels. Yeah, they are. They’re checking trying to chip this game away. Canada tries a new
combination. Here’s McDeave and Crosby together with Braden Point. Still no Matthew Kachchuck
for Team USA did come out of the ice during the timeout. Skated around a little bit, but that was
done. He tapped some of his teammates on the leg as if to say go get him without me. Faber banked
it around. Pare pinching in and he fell down and Jack Hughes took it away. Now Kensel who had the
first US goal after McDavid started the scoring. Dylan Lin the difference with his go-ahead
goal in period two. Makavoy off the stick of Moresy came off the back wall through Hughes to
Moresy and that’s deflected by Austin Matthews. Canada changing US changing personnel as well.
Harley first round pick of Dallas back in 2019. [Applause] They’ve been through a lot of
defenseman. They wanted Alex Petrangelo on this team. He’s hurt. Decided to rest up and get ready
for the stretch run for Vegas. Shay Theodore, his Vegas teammate, played in game one. Played
well, suffered an upper body injury. He’s out for a few weeks. And then Kale Mccard sick tonight
and unable to go. So Sanheim and Harley in on defense. Here’s Brady Kachchuck and a nice stop
by Bennington up well beyond the crease. Leads to a chance the other way. McDavid from Marian
working on Slavven and again Slavven got a stick in. Marian McKinnon stopped by Nelson to try to
go with Larkin. Larkin went down trying to earn a call. Now he slips down again and McKinnon
from Marshand. 520 to go. Third period. The tension palpable for the sellout crowd here at
Bell Center in Montreal. Matt Baldi from Milis Massachusetts played it ahead. Now Taves and got
touch defended. Dropped from Maran and his pass too far in front of Reinhardt or he was going
to have a chance for point blank range. Baldi slides it in. Both teams will make a line change
with under five minutes to go. Here’s Sam Bennett lift as he tried to pass. Got it back and snapped
it in. Get couldn’t handle it. Hegel dropped it back. A shot right on by Hegel and it poked away.
It’s free for Hegel and flipped out by Gensel. in his own end. Charlie Mackoy banked it ahead and Eel and no one else around and both teams are
changing again at this juncture. Don’t want to stay on too long. Bennington blockered one down
off the attempt by Brady. Good shot now. Block shot by Celli on the drive by Makavoy. Seth Jarvis
to Hegel. He gets double teamed in front of the American bench. Under four minutes to go. Team USA
lead Canada two to one. And a win in regulation sends the Americans to the title game in Boston on
Thursday night. Sure to be an electric atmosphere. TD Garden in front of some of the best fans in
hockey. Bulby. Here’s McDavid on the move. point. Two Americans there to put a stick in. Lin and
Slavven under three and a half to go. And almost eerily silent now given how rockous this building
has been all week. Baldi working on Harley centers rugging up by Douty and taken back by Harley.
He’ll have a story to tell the rest of his life about his participation tonight. Matthews mood.
Here’s Tro having a lot of room. Save Bennington. Rebound. Gestel stopped as well. Bit of a sloppy
rebound left by Jordan Bennington. They have their best faceoff man out as Mike Sullivan.
Troche couldn’t win it from Anthony Celli. Deflected in by Celli. He’s first after
it. Heel has some room as he accepts the pass. Tried to send it back around for Cell.
Makavoy got a stick on it. Peri goes in deep. Hegel tried to whip it in front. It hit
the side of the net. Taken the other way   by Troche. Two and a half minutes to
go. United States leading two to one. Crosby McKinnon McDavid. Here they come. Goalie’s
got to be coming pretty quick. And it’s McKinnon. He hands it off to someone. If it’s pop was faster
than McKinnon McDavid. The goalie’s out. Extra tacker on with more than two minutes to go. Canada
trying to tie it. Essentially they have their power play unit out there with Martner joining
the group. Moresy, McDavid. They crowd the front of the net with Crosby. Martner and Reinhardt.
McDavid giving some room. Ekeel the nearest defender. Reinhardt plays catch with McDavid
down low. Crosby. Michael Miller and Larkin. The US forwards sent toward the net by McKenna.
Free at the top of the crease and got turned over to Larkin with the empty net. He clears a
minute and a half to go. JT Miller races off to get on in the red, white, and blue. Favor empty
net center ice. Larkin has Gel with him. Jake Gel scores and the United States leads 3 to one
with 119 to go. [Music] The Canada bench jumped up right away. They think this is offside. If it’s
not, it’s over. [Applause] Nate McKinnon had this chance. It deflects in front of the net. Crosby
battling away the US as they’ve done all game. gets the upper hand. And here’s the play. They
think, “Oh boy, that’s going to be close.” Larkin   throws it across to Gensel. It looks like
it’s going to slide. The two goal scorers, Larkin and Gensel, combined for the empty net or
so. Gensel’s got a pair. Larkin’s got a goal and an assist and a virtuoso defensive performance
by the United States. And they’ve got a 3-1 lead. Dylan Larkin, one of those who said this is
the biggest game of his hockey life to date. A great player for the Detroit Red Wings, their
captain. But of course, a long playoff drought for Detroit. Hoping to end that this year. Out
of the net comes Bennington again. We’re on to a   minute to go. 50 seconds in fact. Seth Jarvis got
bumped by Makavoy. He set a physical tone tonight. Here’s JT Miller with the empty net and hit the
post. Crosby fell down. Matthews had it blocked by Harley. Cast to the Roman goalender. Point the
other way. 30 seconds to go. Stone. Heel. Matthews is there to flip the stick and take it away.
[Applause] Dowy for Harley. Under 20 seconds to go. The Canadians running out of time. Heel trying
to slam it in front and dead. Stone whacked at it. 10 seconds to go. Lin. Nice the puck, but it’s
not going to matter for Canada to attack. The US played this game almost perfectly. They gave up
the first goal. They scored three straight and as you mentioned, Sean, they’ll go to the final with
just a Monday game in between. And now Canada’s got work to do against Finland on Monday night in
Boston. Hella buck. Terrific. Not much he could have done on that. McDavid goal. Jake Gensel
representing the United States for the first time in international competition. Magnificent in
both games, a goal and an assist against Finland and two goals tonight, including the empty netter
that sealed it from Larkin and Faber at 1841. So, it’ll be interesting to see the American approach
against Sweden on Monday in Boston. Canada, Finland, and Sweden, all with a chance to earn the
right to play the United States in the title game at TD Garden on Thursday on ESPN. I’m looking
across at the US team on the blue line. Makavoy was really good tonight. Really physical. We
talked a lot about Jacob Slave. I thought he   was just awesome the way that he played. We
highlighted Hannah Finn as well. There just was no room for Canada to penetrate the defense.
The US did a fabulous job. Time of the three stars. Let’s pick up Michelle Laqua. The third
star. [Applause] The second style Devin liking match here to present the
four nations faceoff player   of the game and first star. Please welcome Ivan, legendary Montreal Canadian Hall of Famers.
[Applause] Sarah Sevard was a pillar of runner. What a night for Gensel, the 30-year-old born in
Omaha, Nebraska. Been one of the best American players for a long time. He just knows how to
score, doesn’t he? Hockey. He knows how to deliver it. He scored the the tying goal to tie it at 1-1.
The empty net or to put it away. 254 career goals in the NHL for Gensel. That’s the fourth most
among USA players since he came into the league back in 1617. Matthews, Connor, and Krider ahead
of him. A spot in the final is a regulation win away in this critical matinea showdown between
team Canada and Finland as the four nations faceoff moves to TD Garden in Boston. The exchange
of batters involving Alexander Barov and Sydney Crosby. And here are the starting goalenders,
Jordan Bennington. His third consecutive start in the building. He won the 2019 Cup. He’s
3-1 here in Boston. And there’s Kevin Lanitan. His second start for the Fins after a 21 save
overtime win over Sweden on Saturday afternoon. So Craig, the path to the final open, but Kevin
Laken and and the pesky Fins are in the way. A the Fins love playing spoilers and not only do
they have a chance to spoil things for Canada, they have an opportunity themselves to cement
their place. So same at stake for both. You mentioned the goalenders. You know how important
they’re going to be. And listening to our panel,   how about the top guys? you know who’s going to be
the star here of these this collection of stars on both teams and will we make it through the first
nine seconds you see Brad Marjan on the ice the captain of the Bruins and Kale Mar back in the
lineup as it play past him down the ice and 11 seconds in we’ll get our first whistle both teams
lost to the United States both teams with overtime wins against Sweden here’s Patrick Lion a pair
of assists against the Swedes he lost his foot he gets a break Here’s Braden Point. Great move
back hand and Lincoln stayed with him. Nice burst by point and as the panel talked about point an
injection of speed along with the fastest guy on the ice who has the puck as McDavid cycles it
looking for Mark Stone by the nine and up the boards out at center ice. It’s Dowy and Moresy
and Dowy had trouble with that. It’s taken by Capo Kako. Here’s Morans and cutting inside back
to Liddell. Vington’s gone and took a quick glance over his right shoulder. Yeah, he felt that one
going through, didn’t he? As you see some anxious moments at both ends. A turnover right at the
line. You could see going down his line a nice little move between the legs, but the end result
is a backhand. A tough play there for Point to   get anything on it after a good one battle.
You could see the high tip there and that’s why Bennington wasn’t quite sure. He expected it
into the middle of his body, it went a little bit   lower. Saw their coach Auntie Pennan who said even
though it was 6-1 against the US, they learned how to play late in the tournament. Here’s McDavid
with a steal. Unable to get the shot away. Cut   off there. Turns back. Scores. Conor McDavid with
the opening goal for the second straight game. [Music]   Well, there’s your individual skill on display.
And what you can’t do for individual skill like this is give him a freebie. An errant pass that
doesn’t get out. You can see the patience by McDavid. Mental does a great job of just
keeping him to the outside. Okay. But he doesn’t get any support. That little quick
turn around with traffic in front. Lankin never really reacted to it. never saw it. And
that’s one you have to protect your defenseman there and get some back support. How about
McDavid? Just the quick curl back and then   drive to the net. Bought himself three extra
seconds. That’s all the time he needed to get the game’s first goal. Post and in for Conor
McDavid at 413. And away goes Hegel. Brandon Hegel trying to cut back. Jumping up on the play
with San. There’s a shot by Cerilli. Kicked away. And now back the other way comes Finland.
Lesterina unable to control the puck in on with that reach trying to knock it away from Lee.
And it’s bounced back down into the finish. So there’s more of a shooting mentality so
far in this game for team Canada. Yeah,   I thought that was one thing against the
Americans. They were just a little bit stubborn, a little bit looking for the extra pass and make
a play instead of getting it. Here’s a chance   coming through again. scores. Nathan McKinnon
the one two punch scores early for team Canada. Chris, I think if you’re a coach looking for
a formula to come together to have success,   you get, okay, McDavid, your best player, can he
get you on the board early? How about McKinnon? I I thought McKinnon had a frustrating game
against the USA. And you see that frustration ending here. Just explodes to the loose puck.
Lankin’s deep in his net. Not expecting that play to develop so quickly. Couple of strides
and this is two quick goals by the top players for Canada. And that forces Finland to call a
little timeout and Chris try to settle things down. I I don’t mind that call. Two of them with
goals 11 seconds apart here. 46 seconds apart. And both McDavid and McKinnon have their
second of the tournament. Ransin got booked   to Grant and him in the trolley tracks. And now
batted back out and offside. Well, you know, coming out Rantin is sort of going to be a focus
for the fins. He’s trying to buy himself a little time and Reinhardt does a great job of just forget
about the puck. Go for the body. Gets Ranton in. Ranton and not really even looking at him there.
And that’s a good hearty collision. Daddy works to center. A change underway. He’ll set it in.
Go to the bench to complete that change. Ling it. Left it behind the net. And that almost was
costly. Holy manta r intercepted by Taves. Dumps it back in. Selli on the board check against
Ma played up the boards team. Good play to keep it in. Heel knocked down and away goes
Arita. Good backtrack there by Marter knocked it loose. Heel’s got it. Gill fire off the goal
stick and high from the point. That shot knocked down. But here’s McKinnon again. Mar just missed
it. Lana played by Reinhardt to Hegel but it’s a hand pass that will halt play. Well, a couple
of good shifts. It started with the Bennett line and then the Celli line. Good back check
pressure there by Mitch Maro. You could see Hegel took a quick little look to see if he had
any support. And there’s another example of okay, I better just get it to the net. There’s
Alexander Barkov with it. Watched by   Ryan. The top finish player to the slot. Rans
stopped by Bennington. Eco Ren with a chance feeling like his game is getting a little bit
better with the tournament getting deeper. One hands it in. Crosby just unable to come up with
that. Sydney Crosby’s 2016 international win streak coming into an end on Saturday. Wonder
what 8-year-old Nathan would have thought about scoring in a game like this. He’s got one to knock
that down. Barkov trying to rebound. Back to Miko trying to play a ricochet off the boards and
get him there. Finn has lost his stick. Sydney Crosby trying to get rid of it and get it out.
It’s still alive for Finland. Back to Ma again wrapping it around that gold stick behind the
net. Imped McKinnon. Crosby failed to get it out. Now they’re able to clear. Bington strands to
get his stick and will dismant it back into deep lost his footing. Here goes
Mc Winding it up and moving   in. He’s got the rebound. Scores three points. A rush goal for team Canada. Braden Point is
on the board. Well, here’s where Canada kills you if you’re Finland. You have Barkov’s line
going against McKinnon. They keep him hemp in their own zone. Well, Barkov’s line changes. Now
comes out the speedster there. McDavid drives the defense back, opens up this lane, and this is
a good first save by Lankin, but look at inside position by Point. All good players go to the net
with your stick on the ice. Don’t go by it. Quick little forehand, backhand. And I love the idea
that John Cooper putting point with McDavid. We talked the panel talked about his ability, his
speed. Spun in behind the net. Bennett looking for it. Pass him to Marsh in watch there by Lendell.
off the mid team out in front and had Bennett loose in front as it was spun on a centering
pass by Kenki. Another good shift by that line again too. The little tweaks of the lineup
seemingly working here early on for John Cooper. Looking on an NHL basis how balanced these
lines are. The Lions have combined for 67 69 62 and 60 goals. So no matter who you put
out, there’s plenty of offensive ability. Carter again with Hegel and Celli Armia looking
through kicks in behind the net waiting for some help. ers in front. Luck missed the puck and runs
into the post to knock the Canadian net to charge. Pennington’s going to leave it there and get the
whistle. Stone gets it back from up at center. McDavid and played again. Shot stopped. Lincoln
is with a look over his shoulder but does hold on. Here’s the challenge again dealing with McDavid.
Anytime he drives deep, it opens up this. It opens up either an opportunity for him to jump in like
the goal heal scored or a wideopen mory who jumps into a one-timer. And then on second thought, you
come in. I like the fact of the shot mentality again. This one kind of gets fooled. Lankin and
much like we saw Bennington earlier took a quick peak behind him. Late stages of the period.
Knocked off his stick. There’s McDavid trying to break through. Taken away by Bararkov. But
that will do it for this opening period here in Boston. You know, the Canadians know exactly what
they need to do. I love listening to the coach’s comments. You know, just such a calm demeanor
about everything. You evoke the sense of pride in your nation and these guys know exactly what’s
at stake here. and a date with the USA on Thursday is everything they need for motivation. Canada had
the final six shots on goal in the opening period. Finland hasn’t had a shot in close to 10 minutes
as that’s flipped wide of the net is on it. He’ll play it to Lindell who topped the fins in ice
time. That puck out of play. Lindell at 938. He just hasn’t had much right off the face. Bington
shrimp it away and able to keep the rebound out, but Bararkov on the doorstep. Close ball there
as the Pins look for an opening minute goal here in the second period. And that puck out of play
gives us a chance to see maybe Bennington’s best sequence of the of the game. Well, here’s what
you need if you’re Finland. You’re right. So,   they follow it up. Bararkov does a great
job winning the draw, spinning off Celli, so he gets in all alone and Bennington can’t
control that rebound. What a great job of keeping the left pad though anchored to the ground as
Bararkov’s big body that spin around created the chance at the net. But Bennington battled back
trouble all the way through the end of his career as well. But man, did he have some skill? Here
comes Sam Bennett after that pass was cut off by the car. Shot by Kney. Rebound chip the stick
to Marian right in front and away goes Kapo Kako Roco down that left side dips the shoulder for
Yoki Haru cycles it back for Holla centering pass and getting back there to come up with a
puck with Shanghai. Here’s that shot mentality that a good play by Kknney. Why? because it
created a rebound in front. Lankin actually did a pretty good job of at least forcing that
one up in the air with his stick as quickly Tes anticipated. Quick turnover and bang, he’s
right there on the loose puck. You don’t   lose the thing. Get it back in the offensive
zone. Crosby after the four check right scores. McKinnon has another and Canada’s got a four
nothing lead. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] The Nova Scotia connection. [Applause] Well,
how about the pressure though? You just deal with the McDavid line. I said Paige made that
play to quickly get the puck back in deep. Why? Because now you go in on the attack. Crosky does
an excellent job of disrupting the breakout. Makes a good play. Two passes later, it’s in the back
of the net. Nice job by Reinhardt. He’s got two guys on him. Just a continuation pass there by
Sydney Crosby. He’s done it his entire career. And you could see the excitement for McKinnon.
He’s been waiting for those moments, haven’t they,   with Canadian sweaters. There’s the goalie change
that we were talking about might have happened early on. And maybe this is just in lie of another
timeout. I I don’t think you can blame Lankin really on any of those goals. Beats Lankin into
the blocker. Now it’s Marian. His shot blocked by Yucky. Almost knocked Marian down. Stayed on
the puck. Got it over the corner. Here’s Connecti feeding back knocked down in front. Rebound and
backhanded high by Bennett. [Music] Sam Bennett over the line. Runs it to the near side. Marian
trying to get after it. Got a stick on that. Connecting. Oh, he had Bennett in front, but
people had denied the pass. Another example of   a good stick. How about Maran there? It just
pickpocketed and made a great play to create that opportunity. Anaheim to connect to Bennett
holding in front and the pass to click for March. But Kenki there now Travis Kenki great pass and
Vika was able to impede the shot. the anticipation that maybe the Bruin captain was going to score
here in Boston. Boy, I really like the chemistry   of this line though, too. And so many stopups and
Kenkne had his eyes on Maran the whole time. Look, as soon as he looked up, tried to see where
the ability or the opening was on Sorrowos.   The puck just sort of filtered off his stick and a
collective drone from the P. It gave it a steal in front. Down is Syro holding on. Can’t car Sarah.
Oh, it blocked in front. What a block that was by Mat Paulo to prevent a goal. So, McDavid Magic
and a close call from Mar played that wide to the net. Gets it back again and 97 is on the prowl.
Drops it off. Mar to the net. Mar in front and unable to finish that. But they’re dancing
in the finish zone now. Back the other way. in there then getting back is big David. What
a show as Stone rolls it through. Just over 6 minutes left here in the second period. Canada
with a comfortable lead at the moment. The chance to be stopped by Sorrowos. Crosby trying to center
it again. Denied by Lindell. It looked like he was ready to pass right there. Little hesitation and
Sorrowos just came flying out. took away the five hole. Here’s Dowy. Reinhardt. Pair of assists for
Sam Reinhardt. Two points for McDavid. Two points for McKinnon. And Barov’s got it over the fins.
Looking for Ransen. That pass failed the click. Ranson leading Finland with three shots. Bench
and get the iPad and go, I want to see what I did. It to me it looked for a second, oh maybe
I’m going to pass it back. The five hole was   open and that little hesitation right there just
closed the five hole at the last. Reaching back for it was Crosby. Good save there by Sorrowos to
rob Sydney from his first goal. AO back to Barkov at the top. H is in the slot down low Renan. Lying
on the near side and Bennington down a pile up in front and the puck still loose and it’s dug out of
there by Brandon Hegel. Great job of Hegel aware of where that puck ended up. But I just love the
fact for Bennington, he had traffic in front of   him. Just want to show you how aggressively he
comes out to try to get as close to that tip as he can. He did a nice job fighting through the
traffic to make that save. Canada two for two killing penalties so far in the tournament. It
has been a low penalty tournament out at center. Skins invade the zone. The penalty
is over. Quick in front of the net.   Phoenix down again. Still loose in front
and blocked out of there. Keep Canada’s away. It’s Mard on this right flank.
Unable to work his way around him. Well, maybe the best sequence here for Jordan
Bennington. You mentioned this with the traffic   in front. Look at how he pushes himself out
then battles for the rebound. thinks he has it for a second and then another in tight. Tough
angle there for Rantin, but Bennington gets the leg out. Didn’t need to. It hit the side of the
net and now a rebound off the glove right in the slot again. This save may be the best as he slid
across and kept that left pad anchored to make the rebound save. The time winds down. Here’s Ma at
center to the line. Bennett there with Marian Sam. Get it after it. Turns it back. One shot by
Cerilli. Kicked away. Juicy Saros has looked good in a relief role. But Canada will take a four
nothing lead through 40 minutes to the dressing room. New press. What a unifying factor having
the same passport is. It’s such a beauty of what this game really is and how much it meant to all
these players to play for your country. I mean, you might have a different experience
if it’s at an all-star game together,   but they need to put all that past back
and forth behind them. And this line has been great. I I really think that this is a line
for John Cooper he has to be pleased with. The   tinkering has worked and maybe tailor made for
the game they hope to play on Thursday. Yeah, it’s going to be a little different.
Dave across and Mar’s got a little room, but checked on the play at center right
back in. A chance stopped by Bennington. Jordan Bennington with another stop as Michington out to play that stopped by Reinhardt.
Lindell there and now Sanheim’s up. Got Crosby with him over the line. Travis
Sanheim looking for Crosby and McGill. It’ll come to Crosby. Back across
into the skates of Reinhardt. spun in there and Crosby with four assists. Centers
Reinhardt and that’s kicked away by Sorrowos as slow this guy down. McDavid across Johnson.
Knocked away by Soros. McDavid again sweeps it around to the far side and teams on it there.
Back in behind the net, knocked away from McDavid. Played to the line. Kipped in by Stone and across
it goes down low. McDavid in front and Stone had able to catch up to that as Granland made the
defensive play and now foot to center. Yeah, Granon read that the whole way. Just made sure
he timed it at the last second. Couldn’t get the   body there. Yuki Haru and Jenn can’t reach that
on the near side. Capo Kako in front and cooks the stick of Paula who is in a pretty good spot.
Taco again back to the line. Montapalo shot goes wide and a hit. It goes to Marian of the ship to
Marian. hands it off to Nicki and that off Ma wide Paulo turns it back to Ma Mat in his own zone
held by Celli and Hegel. Martner takes it away at center past 10 minutes of the third. Hegel
Celli Martner going to the net and lets that Sorrows into the corner. Here’s Mitch
Martner. Hegel shooting and the blocker stopped by Sorrowos up for Linan. Taken away
by Martner again. Spins it back in for Hegel. Sireelli in front and stopped by Sorrowos
who covers. I just think that collectively Candle looks a whole lot more efficient. They
support each other. The communication between defense partners and the line changes have
really brought some cohesion to the game.   Here’s Liddell scores. Posted in. Esselind
breaks the shut out bid with 641 remaining. [Applause] And Chris, you want to think about how
important that fourth goal for the Canadians were. This is why. You know, this is a if this is a
three nothing game and there’s a quick goal there,   there’s a lot of time left on the clock.
You could see the reaction of Lindell. He just beats that’s been a couple there for
Bennington. You you think of the gamewinner   by Larkin. Almost the exact spot there. The above
the pad under the blocker. Lindell with the quick little wrist. David got waved out again. Point
has had to come in two or three times today. And here’s Point with the puck trying to
get to the net. Braden Point back to Caro. blast that hit iron and Yoki Haru unable to
clear. McDavid’s on it again. Tried to drop for Stone. One hands into the corner. McDavid
continues to battle and it’s Rambling across. Mock is out. Spun in by Crosby. Far side.
McKinnon. Reinhardt trying to come up with it. Recovered by Crosby. McKinnon back to the line.
Mar shooting off the glove of Sorrowos. Here’s Serena the rebound and he’ll dump it to center
with it there and just chips it past into the final five minutes of this period. This arena
for Bl. And Saros going to the bench for an extra attacker on the ice with two goals and
an empty net trying to flip it away. kept in. Granland shooting off a stick in front and chopped
away by Taves with Lundell on the doorstep. Boy, that was a big play by Taves. It was a bad break,
a deflection, but a heads up play by number five might save some anxious moments. That could have
been a tap in for a 4-2 game. Here’s Barkov ahead. Pass broken up, but Sanheim clears it back again.
Net empty. Six skaters on the ice for Finland down by three. and knocked off the stick to Brennan.
Bottom back to Lindell. Pass for Granland San got a stick on that and it’s offside at the line.
Marov chased back by foot gets it to line a just inside the line. Marter trying to tie up big
line A around to the near side. Ransom it and Stone. Another good stop by Mike. You’re right.
Shar ice and light from his spot just missed. Rancing it again protecting it against the
checking of point. Bark off windying one more in front. Loose puck and cleared. Another
chance scores Brandling. 140 to go. 42. Boy, from that left flank again. Line a the
right-hander looking for the one-time. Just this couple of good chances where it looked
like one might sneak through. There’s off the   draw a little wrist that a nice toe and this
is the cross seam that I’m talking about that you have to try to take away. Creates one chance
and then this one a shot pass that tries to get off of Aaho and then just a good decision there.
All the traffic in front. So instead of pounding it into all the bodies, he does a nice job to kick
it out and a nice one-time that Bennington who had lost his stick couldn’t get settled in again.
The hero from the last game against Sweden, the overtime winner from Granland and he’s made
it interesting here to two goal game now with a minute 40 to go. Talked to their coach prior
to the game about Granland said one of the most   respected players in Finnish hockey. said aside
from size, he gives you every other element that you want for a player. Well, Syrus goes back to
the bench. Canada with a twogoal cushion now with 80 seconds remaining. Got a chance in front and
they score. Brand again. It’s a onegoal game. Oh man. Back-to- back six on five goals and
the final on Thursday. The matchup still in doubt. Well, what a pinch there by Ranton and
he wins that battle and another kick out pass. You saw line a on the goal earlier. This time
it’s the captain Sasha Barov and that one up and over. Quick release from Braramlin. All
the focus that it was going to be a shot from   Barkov instead. the little release pass and a
perfectly placed shot to make this a one-goal game. Some pesky fins. This is not their usual
open, but they’re hanging around again and some drama here in the final minutes. Sorrows back to
the bench. Grand over at center. That was Crosby bouncing again. And now it’s going to be done.
What a play by Cindy Crosby to put out the fire. [Applause] The captain takes a hit to make a play
here. It’s just a huge collision and Reinhardt just chips the puck and right into the body.
Credit Crosby after the collision there with Braramlin just pops up off the hand. Get the
hand back on the stick and there’s a knuckle ball that takes a couple of hops and boy it was
getting interesting there for a second, wasn’t it? That that’s such a huge play to just breathe
a little bit and take some of that pressure off. an assist in Crosby’s first of the tournament and an assist on the afternoon. That puck pops up
to center ice and maybe can exhale here as Bennett with a backhand wide of the empty net. kept in by
his chopped past Gouty. Around it comes Ranciden. Barov two pins parked in front as Pennington
makes the stop. Ao for Ron back to Barov. Another shot in front and AO it across the goal. Sniper.
And this one’s over as Canada gets to the final with a 53 victory here this afternoon. What an
atmosphere here in Boston for the United States in Sweden. Honda starting goalenders. Lismark was
scheduled to make the start tonight. The former Bruin under the weather. So it will be Samuel
Larson of the Philadelphia Flyers at the other end for the United States after Connor Hellbach
picked up victories in each of the first two. The Dallas Stars Jakeer second in the NHL with 26 wins
played collegiately at Boston University. Team USA with wins over Finland 6-1 Canada 3-1. Bruce
Pryer in the lineup for the first time during this tournament. Sweden with a pair of overtime
losses to Canada and Finland by identical 4-3 scores. And we are underway. USA chance early. We
played 9 seconds. By this time on Saturday night, there were already three altercations in the game
between the United States and Canada. Here’s Eric Carlson towards the net. Good play by Crider
on the back check there and a big hit by Brady   Kachchuck. Carlson back out. Of course Crider
kicks the puck onto his stick and it’s cleared ahead by Jack Eel. Here comes Zack Barky. Saved
by Ersa. Rebound score. Crider. 35 seconds in. [Applause] Well, defense to offense. Eel chips
this puck up to Zach Winsky and he goes backhand forehand. But the key is here is that he puts the
puck under the stick I believe of Gustaf Forsling and he just shovels it at the net and then a big
rebound for Crider. And Edzo, if you were if you had any concern whether the United States is going
to take this game seriously, the hit by Kachchuck in the corner already sends a message that the
United States is going to play with their foot   on the gas here tonight. A terrific start as
Crider gets his first. He grew up in the area, played collegiately at Boston College. His first
shift in the four nations face off. Chris Crryder gives team USA a one- nothing lead. Oh, Hannah on
the puck for the United States. Stepping up with Rascus Dali. Good play by Dene there. Now, Philip
Forsber had it taken away by Dylan Larkin. Mj hit the post. He had the game winner against Canada.
Larkin off the right post behind Erson to replace Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Conucks. Big hit
again. I mean, another one. You talk about being engaged. Brady Kachchuk, he is involved in this
one there. Dylan Larkin with the pressure with the steel and then the quick little shot. Fakes the
pass and then he goes top jump and hits the kind of where the bar hits the post the crossbar and
a couple of big hits by Kachchuck. Here’s Winsky. Now Brady Kachchuck, Rubble Matthew out of the
lineup tonight as are Austin Matthews and Charlie Mackoy. Speaking of Matthew Kachchuck, he is
scheduled to join us at the uh start of the second period. Here’s brother Brady that has come off
behind three hits. Looks like he’s trying to shake something off as he gets back to the bench here to
the right of me. That’s a power move right there.   loses his footing and collides into Sam Harrison.
Also had the the skate was there too there and Matthew Kuck both scored twice in the opener
against Finland. Here is Morensky with a shot. Second chance. And now Brent moves the puck ahead
for Sweden. I don’t know if he stopped that. That was Larkin standing right in front. I thought he
got his right pad on it until Let’s see. Oh yeah, what a save by what a great save. Wow. Power
play for the United States. Opportunity for Jack Eel. Remember after that puck in front.
Ryder was looking for it. Eel there as well. Nice by Victor. After that collision, he
did have one more shift. Extra skater on the ice for Sweden trailing the United
States. One- nothing. Stuff attempt turned aside by Otinger. Brad had a chance
to take that puck to the net if he wanted. Clark is now controlled by Larkin.
United States killing some time down a skater as Nelson sends it back into
his own zone. Another good defensive   play by Larkin in the middle of the ice
on the PK. Excellent penalty killing. Canada was sailing along. They had a four
nothing lead earlier today on TNT. Finland cut it to 4-3. A couple of goals from
Myle Granland in the final two minutes. And then Sydney Crosby with a big hit in the
neutral zone. Sealed it with an empty net. Came from the kid and scored twice. Conor
McDavid. There was a big collision with Branlet and Crosby right before the
empty netter. Look out the score. made the initial stop and then it
was knocked home by Nyquist. [Music] It’s one of those reactions by a goalender where
he doesn’t have this puck. They don’t get the   puck out. Baldi loses it. But watch the reaction
here of Aer. He thinks he has it and then all of a sudden not so much. And there’s Nyquis go gets
rewarded by going to the blue paint. Gets a piece of that. Give Nyquis credit. I believe he got
a piece of that puck as it was on its way. And maybe that’s why Ager wasn’t so sure where that
puck was. That is definitely why that fooled   Auter Edo because you know you have a decision to
make there as a goalender. Either you punch it out with your blocker or you you seal your arm to to
freeze it. But once he sees Nyquist stick there, I think for Ager, it kind of it kind of fooled
him a little bit and it ended up that little tip   ended up forcing it through the arm. It’s going
to be Nyquis goal and tough break for there. Bad news for Team USA giving up the goal, but great
news to see Brady Kachchuck back on the bench for Team USA. Puck comes out to the left point for
good by Carlson there. Here’s William Dlander into the slot. Echome centering pass. Backhand
shot was blocked off the stick of Dander. And now it’s Crider. Puts it down into the Sweden
zone. Knocked out of the air by Jack Eel. Eel leaving it for Favor. Favor lost an edge.
Horsesburg. Pass picked off. Here’s Slavven. Two and a half to go in the period. Pat
Baldi in to play the puck. Tipped around by Larkin. Battling for Brock Nelson. And now
it’s Larkin once again. Larkin out to Winsky. Blocked off in front by Gustaf Forsling.
Porsling will hold as both teams make changes. Now off the steel last
minute of this first period,   here’s Dander. Score. Yes,
for Brat. 2-1 Sweden. [Music] Also on that play, Vinnie Troche got hurt and made
a beline right for the runway in behind team USA’s bench. So he is now headed to the locker room.
What a shot here by Brad. No chance for Hot Jouch. He was screened. Not only screened, Edzo, but the
movement. He’s moving to his left. Shoots back to his right with the screen. A terrifically skilled
play by Brat. Great screen by no chance for there. pleased and honored to be joined here in the
booth by Matthew Kachchuck of the United States. How much fun was that on Saturday? I mean, it was
probably the time of my life. It was uh amazing memories, amazing atmosphere. I I give the fans
up their credit. It was incredible to play uh   play there, but I’m expecting the best environment
I’ve ever played in uh on Thursday night. I’m so excited. What was your initial thought when you
got tapped on the shoulder? Whoever told you,   I don’t know if it was if if it was Mike Sullivan
or John Tordella that you guys were going to be up together. What what was that initial thought for
you? Yeah, I just think it was could, you know,   could have worked one of two ways and uh it ended
up working out well. So, um we were just like a little surprised at the start because it was, you
know, not even halfway through the game and uh you know, once they gave us the tap, you can’t even
think cuz it’s a 1-1 game. So, um we just went   right after. I think it took us a few shifts um
to get, you know, get used to each other because we both like to play in similar spots and um but
I felt like we read off each other great. I I said this earlier, but our brutal uh you know, honesty
with each other was uh probably what helped us, you know, get adjusted really fast. So, um you
know, we could say anything to each other and no   hard feelings. I’m surprised no Brady and I on the
ice. Some guys are stirring it up right now. So, that’s good to see. Mike Sullivan was a teammate
of their dad, Keith, with the Coyotes. We asked him about it earlier. He said, “Yeah, I remember
those little guys running around the locker room,   especially Matthew, who was the older brother.”
Save made byer. Arbitson picks up the puck with the United States back at full strength.
Another stop by puck played by Echol. It was Nyquist that had that puck fumble on him.
He was all by himself. Puck loose to the left of the US goal and it’s sputtered by Jay Cottoner
once again. Sweden leading the United States two to one. There’s Brat who has one of the goals for
Sweden. Bet out to the point for Carlson. Carlson back with it once again. Deflects off the
glass. Jack Hughes lost the handle. Brat back out. Headman shot gets blocked and now Hannah
clears ahead onto the stick of Gensel. And now JT Miller. Return for Gensel. Save by Erson on
Hughes. Good chance there moving right to left. Caught by Winsky deflected wide. No stick for
Headman right now. There is a shot by Sanderson off the pipe and out of the zone. Now Winsky
starts our vice for the United States. [Music] Worinski’s had an outstanding tournament. Rasmus
Dali knocked off the puck. Out to the point it comes. Worinski looking for the stick of Dylan
Lin. Oh, that was a great pickup by Winsky on the back hand and then get it over the forehand.
Lin kept it away from Raspus Anderson. Now Winsky once again up the boards. Baldi no stick plays
soccer with the puck and now it’s Dalene back the other way. Canada 5-3 over Finland earlier out
in front. Great opportunity for Nelson. Then he knocked down the goalender. Then a collision. Good
play by Baldi. He’s still tied up into the corner. Fans of USA from the crowd here at TD Garden in
Boston. Championship game Thursday night. Here’s Kyle Connor. Cuts to the middle. Backhand shot.
Missed the net. What a move he made on Forsley. Armanson knocks the puck ahead for Lindholm. Jack
Eel maintains control. Here’s Jack Hughes. Return for Eel off the post. That’s the third hit by
the United States tonight. Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils. Got by Warky. That’s turned
aside by that. That was tipped on the way in too. That was it by a knander. Hughes with it
once again. Back out to Oinsky and then across. Orenky. 35 seconds remaining on
the power play. Prder setting up in front of the goal. Eel backs it up. Slides it
over to Hughes. [Applause] Now Warren Eel fires and the save moving from left to right
is made by Erson. Oh, good traffic in front here by Chris Krider. And this shot by Eel to the far
post rings off iron and then the one-time here by Eel. A good read by Sam Erison to get across and
square to the puck. Makes a save with no rebound. Penalty has expired. Good play Sanderson there.
He shut down a play. That was a fouron two for team Sweden. He did a great job on Nyquist
along those mere boards. Larkin clears the zone. JT Miller dropping it back. Puck in to
the left of the Sweden goal. Here comes Rasmus Anderson leading with two goals late in the first
period from Nyquist and Bratton. Vincent Fchek has returned. Injured late in the first period.
Back on the ice. Number 16 for the United States. Here’s Eric Carlson carries in deep. Back
out for Lucas Raymond. Now Rasmus Dalene missing to the near side. Dene with it again.
Shoot. Saved by Oxinger. And then another save on the second attempt. There’s the D
again for team Sweden. [Applause] Raymond moves it into the corner. Favor across
for Slavven. Lets the puck out. So, I I think it’s just important on how uh
the coaches manage the minutes here. Make   sure they’re not overplaying guys and
make sure that they get something out of this game in a positive way and then get
ready for the meaningful game on Thursday. Two-1 lead for Sweden. Three and a half to go.
Second period. Tony, thanks for joining us. We   look forward to hearing more of your thoughts
during the second intermission with Liam, Ace, Biz, and Hank. Get rested up and get some makeup
on there, Tom. They got some good I need some I know that. Get that paint. Get that paintbrush.
It helps in 2018 in Pang. Oh, what a move there, Carlson. Carlson, dig and bacon there entering
the zone. How about his couple of weeks? He had a hole in one on the golf course two weeks ago
and now represents his country. He’s the youngest player in this tournament, 20 years of age. Neo
Carlson of the Anaheim Ducks. And you’re right, first family of hockey. Sister Cammy, of course,
one of the all-time greats on the women’s side, part of that 1998 gold medal winning squad with
the United States. Donnie Granado, of course. Here’s Lynholm. Eric Carlson chasing down vetering
pass kept away from Lynholm and now back the other way. It’s Larkin. Brock Nelson flies it across and
Baldi unable to get it to the goal. He panned on that one. What a great chance there. Yeah, I think
for Sweden maybe the fact that the pressure’s off, they can just go out and play loose. I think that
has something to do with it. But I tell you at ice level, I’m impressed by the pace of this game.
I feel like the pace of this game is actually   quicker than what we had this afternoon in Canada,
Finland. For a game that for points purposes or nobody asleep here at TD Garden this afternoon
or tonight, couple of sold down crowds. Canada clinching a spot at the championship game earlier
took a four nothing lead. Hung on to defeat Midland 53. They will face the United States.
trailing Sweden here two to one as we begin the third period. Here comes Jack Eel gains a step
on Forsling off the post. United States hitting their fourth post of tonight’s game. Eddie,
great chance there for Eel after an excellent exit out of the zone by Team USA. Here’s Gensel
for Eel. And now Carlson controls for Sweden. Matthew Kachchuck off to Matthews penalty here
for cross check. It’s the right call made and then Eel leans in, protects the puck and then
elevates it right off the post. What a chance. Sixth and final game of the round. Robin as
Hemond fires the puck around. kept alive by Penderson. And that shot missed the net high
from Forsber. Philip Forsber, the leading goal scorer among Swedenborn active players in the
National Hockey League. 45 seconds remaining on the penalty to Fox. Then Sanderson heading next
man on the puck. Miller couldn’t clear. Kept in by Patterson, his former teammate in Vancouver.
[Applause] back up the boards for Hedman. Good stick Hannifin on that play. Patterson
looking for an opportunity off the side. Here’s Patterson deflected and a save by Auter. He
covers a good job by Aer to be really tight there. It’s a it’s not much of a tip, but if
there’s holes can get through here. Kempy does   a good job hammering down the wall leads to this
Forsber opportunity. Eventually, this should be the play down low. Yeah, that tip right there.
I mean, it’s a sharp angle redirect by Forsber, but as a goalender, you read it. Make sure your
elbows are in tight, no holes, and penalty tie winding down. Fox returns. Sweden now 0 for three.
Lock Nelson for Dylan Larkin. Nice pick up there by Faber. Favor defenseman leading the rush.
Punch sent back out to favor at the right point and a stick save through traffic by another
post. That is the fifth slave in that time. Earl Shive on line one. Highquist had
it poked away. Worky and Erikson. Now Arvinson comes in. Crazy bounce leads
to a shot from Anderson. Missed the net. Sweden with a 2-1 lead. Four and a half in
third period. What a keep in by Broaddin there. Here is Arbitson with a drive and then
Anderson couldn’t te it up. That’s a D man down low. Rasmus Anderson. Him and Arvinson
had a little interchange up top and continue to the theme of getting your D involved if
you’re Sweden. And then a shot by Anderson and then Arvinson put it off the side of the
cage. [Applause] Rodin works it back out off the stick of Anderson out of the zone. Lucky
enough that four of the five now all five. Well, you mentioned uh what’ you say, Kenny? Five
now. Five post. Five by post. Yeah, that one there by Jacob Slavven. That’s a good save there by
Ager. The shot from Anderson. Good low shot and then Arvbitson just not able to get it up and
over the center of the net. Sweden keeps it alive in the offensive zone. Pass blocked off by Slavven
carried out by Nelson. Now Connor Kyle Connor of the Winnipeg Jets turned aside by Erson. Nelson’s
pass cut off by Headman. Take a quick shot there by Connor. skate right, shoot left and tried to
fire it far side top delt but good arm save by big hit by Eel on Carlson knocked his helmet
off Leo Carlson skates over to the sweep pitcher [Applause] took a run at Anderson in the
near corner comes away with the puck Shot by Eel was blocked by Knander. Lifted ahead by
Anderson. Knocked down by Crider. United States. Hand pass stops play. I think it’s a a higher
probability to score from that situation than 6%. I disagree with the statistics, but I I I
just feel like that that was a very difficult save for Oxer to make considering where Brat
was and how he was moving and his screen. Just my opinion. I could be wrong. I
don’t think you are. Makes sense. So, I know I wouldn’t have stopped it. I can
tell you that. I agree with you as well on that double screen. J made by on Jack Hughes.
I think I think he banned on a penalty coming up here against team Sweden. It’s going to be
a high stick. It’s going to be on Eric Carlson. That was the first attempt by Hughes. Blocked by
Nyquist earlier in the shift. Here it is. Yeah,   he didn’t get he just uh kind
of end over ended it. Hik out [Music] and Hughes. Here’s Barensky onto the
stick of Hughes. Gensel unable to get it through past Forsling. Now Eichel controls for the United
States trailing Sweden two to one. Boy, there’s a grab there by Kempe right around the hip of Eel.
Off the stick of Hughes and cleared out by Echol. Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils. Tom Ellen
wore the United States jersey in the 1992 Women’s World Championships. A teammate of Cammy Bernado
we mentioned earlier. Michael shot missed the net. Here’s Brad for the go-ahehead goal. Back
across and he was tied up. What a bad check there by Jack and then an errant pass picked
off by Headman. He clears the puck down ice. That’ll be time winding down. Pass across. Broken
up intended for Baldi. What a play by Forsley. Now Connor shot stopped by and it’s cleared as the penalty
expires. Dylan Larkin with that last attempt. Two shots on the power play back in 1980. Hey made a
huge impact on my life. There’s no doubt about it. Puck out in front. Getel with the
opportunity. I think Carlson might   have got a stick in there. Now JT Miller back
out for Jack Hughes. Takes Sanderson. Miller with a try. Forsber with the block. Favor
deflected through the crease. Sanderson   with it. Under eight minutes to go. Third
period. Sweden with a 2-1 advantage. Take his first opportunity in this tournament. The
absence of both Zanagad and Ricard Raquel. Six and a half remaining. Headman waiting for the
puck out at the left point. Knocked out of the   zone by Connor. That’s Nelson ahead of him. Brock
Nelson moving in. It’s the net. I think Harrison got a piece of it, Kenny. Maybe with the blocker.
At least from my angle, that’s what it looked like at ice level. I don’t know if the puck was on edge
or not. I thought Connor was going to get that puck up to Nelson a little bit earlier, but maybe
he just never saw him until very late. Now here’s Fox. Slides it across, takes the return pass
through a screen, blocked in front. Fox again, shoots it wide, top of the crease, and Sweden
will come away with it. Knocked out of the air by Jack Eel. And now it’s Gustaf Forsling
out in front for Argansson. By the way, we were talking about that miracle on ice squad. And
then Nelson with that great chance. For bird shot turned aside by Auter loose in front. Save and
then another on Arbertson. Stopped by Aer twice. Harbertson with it once again. 340 remaining.
Here’s Forsber. Betted by Fox. Knocked down by Fox. Puck kept it at the line by Headman. Good
keep there on the back end. Now Forsber around for Arbertson, his former teammate in Nashville. You
mentioned Al Michael’s watching. And those of us who are old enough to remember the United States
in Sweden in Lake Placid. Late goal scored by Bill Baker. A two-2 tie. United States controls.
There he goes off to the US bench. Extra skater on is Jack Hughes. Under two minutes remaining in
regulation. Puck flipped around by Baldi. Out to the point now to the right for Hughes. Straight
away is Finsky. United States trailing two to one. Puck down low. JT Miller setting up in front.
Puck taken away by Anderson. kept in the zone by the United States now for the final minute and
a half. Hughes looking for the redirect. Puck   loose. Hughes has it again. Shoots it wide and it
deflects out of play. Michael has won nine of 14 faceoffs tonight. This one controlled by Sweden.
For took a hit. KG Miller with it. Back out to the point. Winsky. Now Eel. Eichel with a shot saved
by Erison. Puck bounced away from Eel. The net is empty. It is set all the way down and wide. by
Jesper Brad. It’s an icing with a minute eight remaining. United States controls the draw.
Yak Eel carries in deep sending it back out. JT Miller now Eel. Final minute of regulation.
Eel down low out in front looking for Gel. Eric got a piece of it. Now Winsky 45 seconds. Jack
Hughes surveys. Hughes back out. Morensky missed the net on that attempt. Back out it comes. Gel
looking for it. Hughes with a shot. It’s blocked. Rat will skate it ahead. Hits the red line.
And then had blocked by another back. Yeah, what another outstanding back check by that man
right there. Rat right now with the go ahead goal. Remember, he’s the one that iced the puck
prior and just missed the net. Here he looks,   thinks he’s got one right in there. And here comes
Eel with the stick. Not backing the net for Team USA. They get possession. He’s going to make a
beline right for the bench. Still plenty of time. Face off control by Sweden. It’s Headedman. Boy,
Hedman could have waited there at the red line. There was nobody pressuring him at all. He could
have bought himself maybe another 5 seconds. Down to 15 seconds remaining. JT Miller towards the net
looking for the stick of Michael. There’s Eel down to 10 seconds. Back out to Morinsky. Shot blocked.
JT Miller looking for it. Time winding down and Sweden with their first victory in their final
game here at the Four Nations faceoff. They defeat the United States by the score of two to one. The
only US goal coming in the opening minute. Nobody could have predicted about a week ago what this
event would be, what tonight would be all about. This tournament has captivated the attention of
sports fans around North America because of the   skill of the players, but also the passion and
the intensity. And now tonight, it’s all about national pride. Good luck to both nations. Let’s
get ready for an epic battle. These guys are just fired up for a million miles an hour. Look at
the lines of defense development. Josh Morris, he’s scratched due to illness. Thomas Harley’s
back in for the second time of the four games of this tournament. He played against the United
States Saturday night struggling trying to kick it on his own and now [Applause] sends it
right in on Bennington and he’ll smother it up created that chance for [Applause] putting it
in for the United States. Troop County now out on defense. Shot attempts already 4 nothing for
the United States. Sam and Reinhardt put it in deeper. He’s out there with Cindy Crosby on the
other wing and Nathan McKinnon in between. John Cooper shook off his lines mid tournament and he
likes this alignment that he’s starting the game with tonight. JT Miller set it ranked wide. Here
comes McKinnon cross ice for his fellow product of Cole Harbor, Nova Scotia, dear friend Cindy
Crosby. Matt Moldy lost it high in the air and back tomorrow and for the first time in his
hockey career representing Canada in a major international competition. Brad Marian lost the
puck. It’s kept in the line by Tay. Seth Jarvis tried to send it down low and Jacob Slen got in
the way as he’s done throughout the tournament. Vincent Troche stumbled across the line. Brock
Nelson on the fore and now Jarvis puts back in the lineup after he was a healthy scratch on
Monday. John Cooper says he likes Jarvis’s game against the Americans stylistically by a lot. Big
hit by Brady Kachchuck. That’s getting redundant. Mard waited ahead to Jarvis and now it’s shot in
by Sam Bennett blocked down by the 31-year-old native of Commerce Township, Michigan in the
northwest suburbs of Detroit Sanhine was not in their lineup to start the tournament but
injuries and illness on the defense board pave   the way for the player Heli. [Applause] That
wound up behind the net. An inadverted puck came all the way to Celli. Shot right on from the
point by Sanheim. Now he departs. USA trying to capitalize on the change. Densel finds a trailer
resi. A beautiful bington. Quero charges the other one with numbers. Perco deflected by Jake
Sanderson, the 22year-old for the Ottawa Senators. He was not in the USA lineup to start, but
the injuries have opened the door for him as well. USA playing without Charlie Mackoy. Just
released from the hospital today and he is here in the building. Bennington held the Blues in before
they could control. Canada needs them to help calm the US. The Bruins were all over him early and he
stopped just about everything they threw at him. Brock favored banked it ahead for Matt
Baldy. He broke it up at center ice by   Braden Pike’s a Stanley Cup champion with the
Tampa Bay Lightning. In both of those years, he led the playoffs in goal scoring and his best
of the big moments. Will he be again tonight? JT Miller got a piece of it in the Americans
change. Here’s Drew Dowy, the 35year-old twotime gold medal winner in the Olympics with
Canada 2010 and 2014. Harley for McKinnon trying to weave. He scores. Threw it to the net from
the top of the slot and got past Helluck. It’s a tournament with four goals. Thomas Harley
starts the play in the lineup today only because Josh Morrisy is sick. Harley drops the puck and
then drives through the middle of the ice that backs off Brady Kachchuck and Nate McKinnon who
has got this explosive stride and he loves to shoot it in motion to his right. The shot through
a maze of players past Jake Sanderson. Hellobot can’t catch up to it. USA’s opener last Thursday
against Pinland. He gave up the goal. Second shot of the night from Henry Yoki Har and stopped
everything else. McKinnon unassisted at 448 for the first goal of this championship
game. Harley moved it to Dow had room,   lost the puck. Then it hit Cerelli at the side
of the net free on the near wall. Played ahead, not out by Fox by now. Celli defed wide by
Noah Hannipan. Anthony Cerelli the Tampa Bay Lightning got slammed by Hannipan who’s playing
in his hometown. Noah Hannan grew up in Norwood, Massachusetts in the suburbs of Boston. One
of many with connections either from Boston or he played college hockey here. Harley
23 years old from Syracuse, New York. His parents are Canadian from Edmonton. He is dual
citizenship and he’s in for Canada again tonight Sanheim and now Harley and it’s taken away by an
spross for Matthew Kachchuckley a little deeper not all the way and it’s cleared back out by
Sanheim Brock Faber and Jacob Slavven they become a very good pair together. As a matter
of fact, they’re playing more minutes than any other American players, averaging 21 a half per
game. Cancelled again and a stop by one of the round robin against Finley. Played through that
and played courageously in his race seemingly well against Canada, but developed an infection.
He just came out of the hospital today and it’s uncertain if he’ll even be able to return this
season for the Boston Bruins. I wish him all the   best. What a What a brutal circumstance for for
Mackoy. And you you just see even in the clip how much this all means to these guys. And I don’t
even know if the NHL realized what this tournament was going to be or the players themselves,
but it is far exceeded just about anything we could have thought it could. And Henovan’s
pass was picked off. Now Bennett off the setup from Macar long care around to Chris Crider the
oldest member of team USA at age 33 his entire career with the New York Rangers. Bennett played
it ahead for Jarvis and he sends in out to stop twice the trophy winner as the best goal in the AH
last year and he likely will be again this season leading the league in all major categories. Wins
goals against save percentage. Crider battling along the wall comes Freda Harley stopped by
Helma more than midway through the period. Shots on goal of four a piece. They added assists
on the McKinnon goal to Harley and Reinhardt. Harley back out there. McKinnon Dowy creeping
in right past St. John the rebound. It’s still free and finally Conor Hel to smother it. Well,
now as they win another one to the Canadians, McKinnon back to Dowy. He was looking for attempt.
Harley behind the net. Crosby back to the line. Crosby is just two shots on goal. He’s been
playing with an elbow injury. And there are some questions about how well, if at all, he
can shoot the puck. He did score into an empty   net to cap their win here Monday afternoon
against Finland and cement their spot in this championship game. But for the most part, he’s
been a passer and he’s only taken six faceoffs. That’s unusual. Here’s Hing. It was at the top of
the crease for a moment and it’s backhanded out by Sydney Crosby. A little bit of a shaky start here
for Thomas Harley. He’s turned the puck over three times just inside the blue line that time results
in a scoring chance. So take a look see if Canada continues to roll the youngster who really wasn’t
on this team from Shay Theodore got hurt and then he was only an emergency replacement. Now he’s in
and he’s got a play. Play broken up just inside the line by Cave. So Jack Hughes will try to
get the United States started again. Houston just one assist in this tournament so far. Here’s
Point D. Hel will play it first. McDavid stops it. Sanderson got in the way, but now it’s
point back to the line. Mar quickly to Taves. Point off for Mar. He had room in the slot but
couldn’t handle it and escapes. Warenski for Brady Kchuck. Stopped to the line by Mar. Here’s
a twoon two. McDavid with point. Now a trailer Sanheim and that’s blocked as Jack Eel got in the
way to Mike Sullivan’s point about how impressed he’s been by the 200t play of Eel and Matthews.
Not just offensive stars. Mitch Martyr for Sanheim and he wristed one wide. Clearly they’re trying
to get traffic in front of him. Here’s Dylan Lin. Stopped by Bennington. Lin rebound right through
the crease as he centered one. Fox to the line. Play it across from Hannah. That’s blocked up
behind by Mitch Martyr. Locked down by Hegel. Up and down they go here in the first period.
Sanheim pass. Did knock with Celli. Nice back check from Baldi to lift the stick of Celli. He’s
been impressive throughout. Just 23 years old, a rising star. Jack Eel won the face off and
chipping it deeper out. Fox to the New York Rangers, but it’s Harley sending the Canadians the
other way. And it’s Tony Watson as he approached the offensive zone. Conor McDavs in his 10th NHL
season. All within the 10 played back by Gelley out on defense. Four and a half to go first
period. Looking at the 23-year-old and the 22year-old Sanderson. Whether they make a
mistake or not, these kids are way ahead of the curve. They’re just so good already.
McFinal in 2002 as well. Sanheim from up high. Blocked out by Sanderson and wound up
on the stick of McKinnon in a dangerous place. There he goes point to point. Sanheim decided to
retreat. Here’s Baldi in the slot. Baldi tried to pass it off. Sanheim teammates in front of the
net trying to pass it out wide. Hel couldn’t stop it. Both teams are changing. played up by the
Americans Brock Fever Pro Minnesota University Minnesota sling center line wide ricochet to Brad
Marian now 36 years old his 16th season with the Boston Bruins just left the puck there and he knew
trying to draw a call center ice face off Caves control at home. [Applause] It’s a zone. You’ve got Matthews with the shot
brothers, not Matthews wins this puck from behind behind the net and he spins to the front of the
net. This puck comes all the way to the front as Matthews is trying to wrap this. It goes right
between Tave’s feet and Brady Kachchuck as he always does is around the crease and he just jams
this to the net. It chips up over Bennington. Mike Sullivan has had all the right touches
from the very beginning of this tournament midway through a sluggish start to the round
robin round one win against the lines put the Chucks together changed up the D pairings here’s
McKennon with a bouncing puck and it glances over to the near wall and Crosby there now it’s
Reinhardt right on and the rebound free and played away from hard by Jacob Slavven And you
mentioned Sullivan and both he and Cooper. Two of the games very fast. They’ve all had to make
switches. They’ve made the ones that have worked. Matthew Baldi trying to center. Didn’t get a
lot of that back hand. Taves got it out. The Americans play quickly back in. Vincent Troche is
first in now. Adam Fox’s Rangers teammate. Here’s another New York Ranger Chris Krider. That’s
blocked by point. stall racing after goes diving for the puck but Nelson was there for team USA
the 12-year veteran with the New York Islanders got a stick on it at the blue line for a moment
but couldn’t keep it in played back in by Stall   the captain of the Vegas Golden Knights
now part of that Stanley Cup champion St. Louis team here at TD Garden in 2019
and all 10 years of his career with the Blues. Down a minute to go in the first
period. 1-1 the score. Brady Kachchuck has tied it. His third of the tournament
for Austin Matthews at 1652. McKenn who lost his stick as he ran
into Harley in the corner. Score even at one a piece. The shots
aren’t going even at 10 a piece. Two evenly matched teams playing very even game
so far. Good block on the pass by Hughes or that could have been dangerous. Matthews
for Jack Hughes. Will he make his presence known in this tournament? He was hoping
to be joined by Quinn Hughes, his brother,   the great defenseman of the Vancouver Conucks,
who was not able to go due to injury. There was some talk he might try to join Team USA tonight.
Wouldn’t have allowed it unless Team USA lost right across the period ends. Tampa Bay team
checked it in touch controversy in the offse prior to tonight’s game. He said that team
USA is playing for team Canada rather playing for the flag and they are not playing for the
cameras which they shot with the probably was yes it was referenced the team text chain that
they were on the jarently hatched the plan to end the 50s at the start of the game Saturday
night. Here’s a takeaway by Braden Point that his shot was blocked by Ike who walked the
stick and then trying to respond by saying, “Well, they must not have any friends on their
team if they don’t text each other. There’s a   shot that hits some traffic out in front
from Kale Mar. Devon Taves. Beautiful pass and Stone didn’t get a lot on it. Tough to tell
if that was a shot attempt or a pass to McDavid. Take away by Dexel. He tried
to break away. Team stopped it. Neither team had a power play opportunity in
the first period. There have been very few   penalties in this tournament. Here’s Conor
McDavid bringing up SL and it winds up in the right wing corner. Four points behind the
net. Brock Faber on defense again with Slavven. center ice and a good step in his favor. Here’s
JT Miller recently traded from Vancouver to the New York Rangers. They’ll count on him to try to
get back into playoff position in a wild race for the playoffs in the Eastern Texas right now. The
Rangers out of a playoff spot. Doesn’t that have trouble? Sorry. That race seemed like forever
away when we watched it like can’t believe it like that. Oh yeah, there’s still a season. Yeah,
it’s about to resume for some of these players to transition into the third one. The penalty and
they’re not going to get it. Five of the 11 shots on goal for Canada in the first period. Kachchuck
sent it into the corner. He scored for team USA. Captain Nathan McKinnon started the scoring for
Canada. Bouncing puck and it’s covered by Jordan Bennington. They played together. They know each
other very well. Zach Bari on it. For example, to play with Dylan when they were 9 and 10 years
old. Started on the Bell Tire youth hockey program in the Detroit area that continued through the
Bell program and on to the University of Michigan. It’s a pretty good youth
hockey team and Connor Sto the deflection stopped and the rebound by McDavid. Great chance turned away by Heluck and
then Canada just misses on the rebound. Jake Sanderson will mart in hot pursuit. Mart
gamewinning overtime goal first Wednesday in the first game of this tournament against
Sweden. There’s Hegel down low behind Martyr.   County lets one fly and hands all the way
out to get he was at the end of his ship content to backhand it in and the Americans
change up. More than four minutes gone by in the second period championship game of
the four nations faceoff tied at one. Shot attempts in this period are 9 nothing in
favor of Canada. Three of them have been up next. Brock Faber for Jacob Slater. Team USA coach
is so impressed by Slen. A lot of times you play against a guy, you have an opinion. American
coaches David Quinn who’s running the defense. TB Slav is a stud. He’s had a tremendous
turn. The more you watch him, you realize that he just doesn’t make any mistakes. He’s a
defensive eraser back. JT Mill cross ice left behind by Hughes. He got knocked into the
back wall by McKinnon. Hamilton is free. is still free after the attempt from
the side of the net by Hughes with Bennington down but it would not go. The
puck’s deflected out of the ring and the faceoff’s coming to the left of Bennington.
It has in this game if you’re Bennington,   you just have to hold serve to give your team a
chance. Hell for the team Canada go to school. arms over his shoulders aggressive for
Jenny here for Canada to stick with it like taken back by off the near boards and
Reinhardt sent it back to Kale Mar. Well, there was a connection here locally
playing college for two years at the   University of Massachusetts. One touch
it down low winds up by Jacob Sven all kinds of ways to get in the way
to Slavi slid it in on that break. It’s squirted out to Larkin and back to his good   buddy Winsky. Rebound Matthews trying
to pass. They score. Jake Sanderson check again. It’s the Kachucks that started.
That’s why that shoots the long whistle. And through this scramble, nobody picks
up Jake Sanderson on the back door. Sanderson in the lineup only because of
the injury to Charlie Makavoy, the Ottawa Senators. Young star comes in from the point.
We talk about traffic in front of Hell. Look at that in front of Bennington. It’s given the
US their first lead. It’s 2-1. The 22y old Jake Sanderson from Whiteish, Montana, second youngest
player on team USA. was not racially [Applause] ripped off by Harley. Team USA, their coaches had a lot of faith in
Sanders and they were hoping they have opportunity to particularly appreciate his speed which is
able against this lightning fast team Canada. Now Sanderson’s only here because
Quinn Hughes initially was ruled   out of the tournament. He wasn’t
even supposed to be the seventh guy. He was the eighth guy. Now he’s
got a girl in the final. Number 85. The crowd was ser championship in game seven of the TD. There’s
a trip that got hacked down by Vincent Trochek. And Canada after going down for the first time
tonight is going to get the first power play. McDavid McKinnon has done in National Hockey
League play score combined 514 career power play goals. Canada’s one for three on the power
play in the tournament. They scored on the first power play of the four nations faceoff against
Sweden. Took only 12 seconds a man up to do it. Just 56 seconds into that game. McKinnon scored
it on an unbelievable backhand pass by Crosby. Here’s McCard and it’s into the netting and USA
has killed all seven shorthand situations in this tournament including two against Canada. The USA
wins Saturday night in Montreal. Michael broken stick. It’s now a five on three and a half almost
midway through the game. Two to one United States on the stick and it’s cleared away by Sl. That is
an amazing play. So difficult to do. He wrecked the pass perfectly and with his foot is able to
deflect it. JT Miller on as a killer now with Mark Favor still out there. Still the number one
power play unit. 45 seconds with the man up for Canada trying to get the Tigers. It’s a free
puck on the state line and it wound up on the back wall. Crosby played it back to McKinnon.
30 seconds on the power play. Reinhardt lots of room but car keeps creeping in to try to make
here’s [Applause] JT Miller. L stop by Bennington. It’s still Lin. Tough angle shot cars off
Bennington up into the crowd. And this crowd appreciates the penalty killing the US now just
a few seconds from killing the game’s first power play. Bill Lan, one of those Americans the games
against Canada in this tournament of his career. 10 years veteran of the Detroit Railway played
in the playoffs as a rookie and not fit. They’re holding back this year. Point could handle
it. The Americans are back in full strength. Good chances at each end. Well, Canada was on the
power play and icing is the call against team USA. Two to one United States.
Jake Sanderson goal scorer   with the gold United States. First
Montana born player ever to play in the thousand games. Here again [Applause] is after it. That was an
empty net for Crosby. Jacob 100% saves the goal. Outside the pass is stone and visions
of going in alone. Said Winsky the assist. Matthews has assisted on both team USA goals
tonight. And for Zach Linsky that is the sixth point of the tournament all the team lead the
tournament of points. Matt Baldby in with Eel Gensel the other member of this forward
line with Sanderson and Warky the defense point for Canada bothered by Sanderson that got
turned over to Warky ninth year in the NHL. Zi here’s working on it back away and then
he sidestep a couple sliding team USA defenders that car collected by him 6
and 12 to go second period two to one United States the chuck in Serelli
market comes in to pop free for JT who grew up in the Pittsburgh area. the
dear friend of Vincent Chroch [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] gets in a fight on Saturday
night and Mitch Mner, who has been really quiet since the overtime winner against Sweden,
drags the US defense to the middle. Brock Nelson can’t catch Bennett. And Bennett, who’s
got 18 goals in the regular season, puts this short side shelf. It’s 2-2. It was really close
to it. Too many men on the ice. Most felt would be in consideration, but he wasn’t there. John
Carlson easily could have been here for the US, but they’ve all had a holiday and they’ll get
back at it on Saturday afternoon. Of course, the grade eight Alexkin is from Russia, not
included in this for nation’s faceoff. Under five minutes to go in the period now. Quiet anxiety
has fallen over this sellout crowd of TD Garden 10 in front of him. This rider has played
only nine shifts here for team USA tonight by Brady Kachchuck to Drew Dowki. the
interception. Still a delayed offside here against Team USA. And that’ll come down as Harley
or will it? Yes, it has already. And Harley’s forced back by Matthews like a boulder rolling
hill. It’s like you just can’t stop. He’s had the biggest hits in this tournament. as the captain
of the Ottawa Senators at age 22. Testimony to his leadership cow had trouble coring the puck.
McKinnon back at the line. Caves across from Mar. McKinnon tried to center his Avalanche teammate
Mar was sneaking in. Under two minutes to go. Second period tied at two. Basically took it away
from Mar and it’s lifted into the air by Jakeel. 31 goals for Sam. Third in the NHL. Great
follow up to his careerh high 57 last year. They tell me that adds up to 88. Only
Austin Matthews is at more in the NHL   in the last two seasons. Pretty good match.
Thank you very much. Syracuse University. Here’s McD on the for the shot. Team USA got
a stick in there. Here’s Stone. Does good work along the back wall, but he got nudged off it
by Faber and it’s slid out by JT Miller. Faber also played that McDavid rush really to pass
away across the goal. minutes to go in the period handy pl there as well for the Canadians.
Matthews didn’t get it with the sticky chuck in here’s Brady Kuck. That’s deflected up and out
of the ring by Harley and then Brady gave we need you in Montreal and he got thrust in there on
Saturday night. He’s accounted himself very well again. If you’re just joining us with an illness
for Josh Morris defense for the Winnipeg Jets. Here’s Serelli trying to use Adam Fox as a screen.
Hegel gets it back to Serelli. Pestered by Foxar trying to weave away from Brady Kachchuck.
Now Jack Eles there. Time running out of the period. 7 seconds. Carter that deflects into the
corner. A car the defenseman behind the goal line. Put it out in front. Stuck a stick out. That’s
going to do it for period two. [Applause] They were tied at one. Your toes. And it’s not
easy to do. A chance to be a national hero for one of these players. who’s going to score
the gamewinning goal and enhance his legacy. And as you said right on the other side, you don’t
want to be the one who makes the critical mistake   that costs your country this championship.
Austin Matthews to assist. Here’s Dylan W just put it on some the other way his
defense going deeper after his changes and there’s Matt sends it around Jordan
Bennington let it go Jack off gets to the near All Baldi goes stumbling
after it held off by the stick of   Kale McCarthy winning defenseman.
He’ll win more before he’s done. Sydney Crosby got it just inside the line. Taken
back by Gensel. If you’re looking for possible heroes, Jake Gensel has the history of raising
to the occasion to big moments. Starting his rookie year when he was outstanding on
the Penguins run to the Stanley Cup. to Hughes. Harley knocked into him. Noah Hamilton up the wall past JT Miller.
And the two teams feeling each other out in the first two minutes of this third period.
Hathan with Hegel on it around for Jack Hughes. Here’s Matthews one-on-one. Dowy off the skate
of Dowy into the corner. Harley fell down, but Bennett was in the right place. Already
a villain in this building. Sam Bennett going back to Florida’s series win in the second round
of the playoffs against the Boston Bruins last year in game three of that series. A controversial
hit and a Brad Marshand who’s now his linemate on team Canada. Knocked Marshand out of the series
for a couple of games. And in the next game, Bennett scored a very controversial
game tie goal in the third period. He’s out there with Marsh. It’s amazing what this
tournament does. Sports are funny sometimes. You got to vary it. Now you’re playing on the
same team. It’s pretty certain you can say that Bennett and Marshan really don’t like
each other, but they’re out there playing   together for their country tonight. There’s
a race for Hut. Here’s Jake Gel. stopped by Pennington. Hockey League is his first time
representing Team USA in a major international competition. Next year at the Olympics will
be number two. What a terrific player he is. And here he is finds a big score by Bennington.
Bouncing puck taken to the back wall. Here’s Sam Reinhardt. B injured by Gel. Jake Sanderson
back there for the United States. He scored the goal that gave the United States the
lead. Two to one in the second period. Sanderson just five goals in 55 games for
Ottawa this year. JT Miller waits for help. The hand off to Brock Nelson off the stick of
Jack Hughes and played out by Mitch Marter. Hannah did get it out. Pass point has McDavid
with him. Some room for Brock Nelson. His pass blocked in the neutral zone. McDavid dumps
it in and they simultaneously clear to avoid the offside. Canada makes a change here. Mner
instead of stone with point and McDavid. John Cooper looking for something a little different.
Hughes with some speed. Matthews lifted his way to make sure it didn’t take a strange bounce toward
the net front. Matthews took it away. Hughes was   trying to get it to Brady Kachchuck who was out
in front. Now it’s point with help from Bennett. Tipped in by Slavven and sent
in deeper by Brady Kach. Still   no Matthew Kachchuck. And now Pero with some space ahead for Ber. Here’s Seth Jarvis with
a free puck and he wristed one over the net. Marshan in deeper for Jarvis. This is
the fourth line for John Cooper. Although both teams continue to mix their match.
5 minutes gone by third period. Dante through a crowd smothered by Connor
Habib. He makes a good stop there. really such a solid player in every zone in
the ring. Two times a Stanley Cup champ. Here’s Carter trying to force it to the net front. Now
he chooses the play with Mar. That’s always a   good idea and it hit the goal post. That was an
angled deflection. Same play as the other side. get by and hits the point team USA trying to for [Applause] his own rebound behind the net
comes to the near corner for Jack and now Tes and both teams are changing more
than six minutes gone by third period Kale M 43 goals since the start of last
year. 11 defenseman in the NHL net by Kuck. Harley locking it up. Blocked down by
Faber to Slavven to Brady Kuck who’s been a stand against team USA physical presence
and he scored one of the goals [Applause] and Canada has a clear right [Applause]   chance [Applause] started the story for Canada. Jake
Sanderson gave the United States the way to one pass again for G and right out in front and
pass it out in front of his stick and just wound up in a great spot. But team USA couldn’t
count. Sanderson scales it in and it winds up in the netting. Whalers Hurricanes
franchise is also player from Colorado time at Colorado College. James Sanderson
whips it around and has it back. Poked it away from point but Martyr’s there. Sent it right
through the slot. Did not connect with McDavid. It comes down to the feet of Dowy. Every bouncing
puck causes anxiety for somebody. You know, early Sean, you said you you got to be you don’t
want to make that mistake. That’s the challenge   internally. You don’t want to be the guy to
make the mistake, but if you play like that, then you can’t win. Yeah. And you might
be the guy who does make the mistake,   right, you make it out of being too
cautious. It’s a It’s a hard place to be, but it’s what makes the game the best. These
all or nothing games are the best because of   it. McKinnon went flying up on Slavven. Here’s JT
Miller to a whack from behind by Crosby. Miller scaled it in. The other thing these players
don’t want to get on the ice for too long. And the line change is critical. As you
said, both teams in this tournament,   particularly the Canadians, have had some
sloppy ones. Jack Hughes out of the ring and then kept in the line tonight at the expense
of Kyle C. Brady K trying to turn away from Tes off the stick of Mar. Matthews got it to
Hannip and deflect to Mari right hands   it ahead to Cerillica. 20 goal score this
year. A careerh high for his eighth year with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Lots of room
for Dowy and for Harley. That’s blocked up high by Matthews. And that’s stunning. Two
assists, a couple of great defensive plays   for Matthews tonight. As Mike Sullivan said,
so impressive the entire length of the ice, all 200 ft. And an excellent face off man.
Downey centers one that hits some skates at the top of the Grace. Paggel was parked there
for team Canada. Here’s Gel again. Slington will be there. That goes up into the stands.
Canada draw it to the side of the net. Bennington swept it to Sam Reinhardt. He’s double team along
the boards for nine and a half to go in the third period. Team USA and Canada tied at two. Each
team’s had a onegoal lead. This is the second time they’ve been tied. Michael Gel set it back.
Poked by PY back toward the point. Winds up on the far side for Fab. Fab lets it go. Blocked
out by Pennington. Simon steps in his drive. Wouldn’t that be something if after all of his
defensive heroics he gets the go-ahead goal? We all look at the big scorers, right? Who’s going
to be the hero? We’re getting close to where it   feels close to overtime, but very easily could
be what would be considered unlike leaders up here. And it goes to overtime tonight, they
don’t go to three on three and remain five on   five and they’ll play for as long as they need
to play. Reminiscent of the old days. Here’s Mitch Marty trying to feed it through. Trying to
set point. Matthews got in the way. Marty again pass right now to McDavid. A good thing for team
USA. He didn’t control it as soon as it arrived or he might have got it alone. He centers one
and a stick battle one by Sanderson. Sent along the wall by point and then lost by McDavid. Brady
Kachchuck struggling manages to play it forward. Here’s Anthony Cerelli. Puts the brakes on. Drops
it back. Just kept it at the line by Dowy. Harley got it into the corner. Looking like Team USA
is going to have to win it without Matthew Kachchuck. I think the only way he gets on
the ice is if they find a late power play. And it’s been a race with Hegel. No one got there
first. Adam Fox, who is familiar with this city, played hockey at Harvard has a degree from
Harvard. He’s a Harvard grad. Here’s JT Miller with some space on the move. Chris Per getting a
shift. He can skate. Especially for a big man. He lost it as he tried to use his body in the circle.
Maran the counter trying to support the defense. Vincent Troche denied that Marian to Pareo.
A drive stopped by Connor Hull. Golden Paro stepped into one. 7 minutes to go. Bennett who
scored the equalizer. That shot for Pero at 92. He goes again, this time hoping for a tip,
then wound up in the corner. Bennett circled back. Sanheim missed the net. The car comes
out to Bennett with a good bounce for Canada. He sent it toward the net for Jarvis and for team
Canada. Taves. Now McKinnon tried a turnaround shot. He got styi. Matthews was there skating
the other way. Dylan L. He’s been outstanding throughout this tournament. The captain of the
Detroit Red Wings. Just the second American born captain. Four wings. Reed Larson fine defenseman
with the other. Now Sanderson for Brady can chuck. Bark can reach for it. has it now from Matthews.
Tried to get around Taves and could not. Taves, one of those guys perhaps underappreciated
because he plays alongside Kale Mar, but he is terrific in his own right. Wari, snaps
it around. Assist for Weski is six points to lead all scorers in the tournament. Here he is
again trying to use some traffic out in front. Harley and Michael wrote each other to the
boards. They battle again and Adam Fox content with the dump with 535 to go. Braden points,
one of the best skaters in the world. It’s been hard for anybody to find open ice.
Here’s open ice for McDavid. But again, he lost the puck as he tried to make a move. Bad
room behind the net. This one hops over the stick. Jack Hughes. Here’s Eel weaving his way through center ice
trying to erase a bad memory in this building. Jack Eigel played one year of college hockey
at Boston University. Was the best player in   the country. Won the Hockey Bank award. Lost
an excruciating national championship game in this building to Providence College.
They had a onegoal lead to the Terriers   in the third and it slipped away. Slavven past
Hughes. Taves sends it in. Helluck struggled to catch it. And we’re ticking down toward
the end of the regulation play. 42 minutes to go. Chris save by Jordan Pennington.
You You almost forget that there’s Oh, yeah. There’s a leak. But then that’s
going on. This has been so exceptional. I think a lot of the fans who have come to the
arena, particularly the television set tonight who are not hockey fans, many of them are going to
stick with this. This is what today’s hockey is. Incredibly fast and physical with remarkably
skilled and dedicated players. Here’s for shooting that. Here’s McDavid. In fact, John
Cooper said he’s been telling his team Canada, “Be selfish. So many great players on
the ice from both sides. Sometimes you can be too differential where the
best option is for you to shoot. [Applause] 235 to go. Telly scales it hard at
first there. And now Slave, he’s content to and nine yards in the blue line. Not played out
by Harley Hughes battles there. Jarvis the other Jarvis late addition to the lineup. There
was some thought Travis Kknney would play instead. Jarvis is the youngest player on
team Canada. He turned 23 on February 1st. Two minutes to go. Heel at the line. Fox came
flying over. Brady Kachchuck there to help. Matthew Kachchuck has not played at all here
in the third period. Taves gets it into the zone. Hegel Hanniban there first. Stomped
along the wall by Stone and now Devontes. Long pass. Here’s McKenna. Stopped by Helabuk standing here. Michael side of the Michael back
hands one hoping for somebody at the other side   of the net. Now Baldi’s pass goes past Michael to
go. Tied at two. Third period of this championship game. [Applause] Both teams are changing.
Baldi pitched it in and now he heads off. Harley great addition to the lineup tonight for
the illness of Josh Morsy Kellbuck nearly got tangled up with Sanderson Martner centers and
it’s off the leg of the point of the car swept away by Sanderson down low centering pass it
was free at the side of the net as Martner put it in the crease shoots one over the net under 20
seconds to go United States on its heels trying desperately to clear and Hughes didn’t get enough.
Here’s Mard down the middle. Mard save by Emot. It looked to be tipped times in the tournament.
It’s Crosby with a bad arm. He won it. Back   to the point of Taves. It’s blocked and we’re
heading to overtime. Big players in the world. Two of the leading goal scores in this era of the
National Hockey League on defense from Team USA. The crowd going crazy. Many of them are on their
feet. [Applause] Tickets if you try to get one today on the ticket sites were going for more than
$2300 and they’ve got their money’s worth. Slavven long hill fan on the first try to send it in. He
dumps it in. They go off quickly. A 30se second shift although Matthews is still up there. Here’s
McKenna with Crosby trailing as the second out of the ring. Now Sam Reinhardt, Stanley Cup champion
with Florida swing trying to add the Four Nations face off to his resume for a tough angle and the
rebound car through it toward the cage. Blocked by Mar too far in front of a kid and that’s hard
to do. The crowd wanted an icing call. Here’s Baldi ranked wide. Brock Nelson has room now.
Winsky off the skate of Stone up off the glass. And here’s Mark Stone. Crisply to Brandon Hegel.
Marks defending. Hegel put it on net. Kell turn it aside. Stone has a lot of room in the circle.
USA scrambling a bit in his own zone. A minute 45 gone by in overtime. Canada won the first game of
this tournament in overtime against Sweden, but that was in the threeon three. This is now like
the Stanley Cup playoffs in terms of the overtime men on the ice. That’s what the crowd’s yelling
about. A little more important off the draw.   Strange bounce up in the air. It’s blocked
down by Brock Fever. And now Matthew Fley. moved in by Brock Nelson. Nelson hasn’t been
much of a factor in this tournament, but that will change forever if he can get it. McDavid
flying and it was blocked and sent ahead, but not enough. McDavid again working on Favor. McDavid
trying to dangle it around Favor. Could not. And a centering try got blocked by Brady Kachchuck
who has it back for Matthews. Kachchuck goes off. Matthews flying in on the for check on his Toronto
Maple Leaf teammate Carter Gensel crisply back to the line. Jake Sanderson around and handled by
Lin G in front and Matthews stopped in point blank range. Dylan Lin cross Sanderson missed the net.
Great action here in the first three minutes of overtime. Conor McDavid, three times the leading
goal scorer in the National Hockey League in his 10year career, which will end with a trip to the
Hall of Fame when he’s finished. Foldi couldn’t stop it. Favor just in the nick of time. It is
blocked. And here comes Mar. The Boston Bruin tied up and never did get to help. Dying kept
it in the other way. working on Harley waiting for help. Team USA in a change. Baldi fans save
Bennington. If it keeps going like this, it’s not going to last for very long. That’s part and it’s
a flex up out of the rank it away from Crosby. Here comes Buck Nelson with an eight of Minnesota
that got batted out of the air by Sanheim. The pass for Reinhardt didn’t click. Bouncing clocks
again getting picked up the stopped by Bennington. It’s 2019 all over again. The US has utilized
that high flip several times today. The Canadian defense has had trouble fielding it. There’s
Matthews. Two great a golden opportunities in in overtime. And then Bennington has stopped
one the blocker, won the right pad and then   Brady Kachchuck and all of the great chances. Off
the draw Matthews again snatched by Bennington. Battle along the line. Nearly
6 minutes gone by in overtime. who had the game winner in OT
against Sweden. Couldn’t handle it split into the zone by Troche who goes in the
forehead from Crosby. Crosby is right hard with him. It’s proud to be a rear shot on goal in
this tournament and Hobach held his grounds with Team USA in the Midst Car [Music] if you’ve heard that before. Back to the line.
Taves through a crowd and now Larkin looking to turn for the Americans. Here comes Matthews
again, the captain of team USA. 27 years old out of Scottsdale, Arizona shots into the corner.
His buddy Larkin carries has to be careful not to turn it over up high. Here’s McKenna
with some skating room. And now Reinhardt and they catch their breath. Some of the fans have
taken their seat. Many still standing. More than seven minutes played in overtime. There hasn’t
been a goal since this man Sam Bennett tied it for Canada at two in the second period. McKinnon
scored the first goal of the game. Kachchuck and Sanderson Brady Kachchuck that is. And then
Bennett tight hold by Marsh. Here’s Jarvis. I think the play ray a little looser than
either coach would be comfortable with there. It it seems like a great chance is coming almost
every shift even when the passes don’t complete. So I agree. It’s like it it feels like it’s
right there. Sometimes fatigue sets in and that’s a factor hand looking for a tip. Gensel
couldn’t get it. Miller back at the line. Fox couldn’t keep it in. The laid off side here
against Team USA comes down as they clear and complete a change. Perhaps pass the point.
Fox the defender quite waiting for help in a change. Hardly a drive that missed the net.
Scaled off the glass and down. Here’s a race. He was trying to get there. Did not, but he won
12 out of 14 in their opener and he won that one and got a shot off. Henry McDavid scores.
Conor McDavid wins it for Canada. [Applause] And Jordan Bennington has done it again.
After Jordan Bennington kept Canada alive, three great saves on Matthews, it’s Conor
McDavid. His step out moment like maybe Sydney Crosby’s was in 2010. McDavid puts
this away. A pass from Mner. A finish by McDavid and it’s over. McDavid misses. Now the
pinch at the blue line’s Mar that keeps the play alive. It goes all the way around to Martner.
Two assists tonight for Mner as he grabs it, finds McDavid. And this is perfect into the
top of the net. Just a remarkable tournament finished by the game’s most talented player. Conor
McDavid beats Connor Hellabuk and Canada wins 3-2. Adding to an already remarkable resume
said the team so even, the margins so slim, but tonight was the opportunity for team USA
to try to make the statement that they are better until you knock off the champs.
They’re still the chance and Canada is still at the top of the heap. It’s just
special. I mean, every opportunity to get   to to wear the Canadian jersey and compete
in this event, something new. But I think uh you saw the hockey that was on display.
It was it was pretty incredible. And it’s   happy for this group. We came together in a short
period of time and uh found a way to get it done.

  1. Please!!! Upload this later on so I can watch it properly .. I'm Working right now😢😢😢😢

  2. First goal – McDavid – Crosby – Mackinnon was legendary. Also, you notice Crosby never even looked until after he made the decision he was going to pass there. He just knew exactly where Mackinnon was going to be, had it planned out 2 passes ahead.

  3. Showing us the National Anthems and the three fights for USA vs Canada Round 1 is a common NHL W. Love these Sunday Streams! Great way to get us hockey fans through the offseason

  4. This was one of the best Hockey that I have Watched Me and My Dad were Screaming When Mcdavid Score in the Final while the OT It’s better than Those All Star Game Fr

  5. When will people give Jordan Bigginton give him his flowers? He kept the Canadian team in every game of the tournament. He is equal to Connor Hellebuyck except for one thing….he's a Stanley Cup champion.
