Scottie Scheffler is on top of the world after winning The Open Championship at Royal Portrush on Sunday.

Scheffler was already the best active player, and now he’s drawing comparisons to past greats like Tiger Woods because of his incredible run.

The 30-year-old did not just win the Claret Jug; he blew the 156-man field away with a dominant performance.

It was his second major championship victory this season and his fourth in total, elevating him to legend status just six years into his PGA Tour career.

Tour winner Smylie Kaufman has now compared Scheffler to another former world number one, Greg Norman.

Kaufman pointed out that, despite Scheffler’s amazing success, his golf swing is not as aesthetically pleasing as Tiger Woods’ or Adam Scott’s.

Instead, his unorthodox swing is more similar to Norman’s and is unlikely to be used in textbooks or classes in the future.

“I just think about how, when I was watching golf as a kid, all the teachers would be trying to model kids’ and amateurs’ golf swings off Tiger Woods and Adam Scott,” Kaufman explained. “They would pull up Adam Scott side by side and put your video right next to it and try to compare and contrast.

“I don’t know if that is the case with Scottie Scheffler because he does it so differently. Think about his golf swing. His pelvis is moving towards the target; he’s right eye dominant, so it’s very different for a lot of people; his head is back; his pelvis is forward, and he’s got so much great rotation through the ball.

“But I don’t think many other people could do it because of the way he contorts the ground, the way he pushes forward with his left foot to not snap back out of it, and has that right foot slide.

“What he does with the ground is phenomenal. It’s the closest thing we’ve seen to what Greg Norman used to do with the ground. That’s the best comparison. If you just took from waist high down, Scottie Scheffler and Greg Norman, it’s very similar in how they push the ground.

“They’re pushing that left foot forward, trying to get all their weight into the ball at his feet versus in the heel and snapping back like a Patrick Reed or a Justin Thomas, where they jump out of the way. He’s doing it the most consistent way to be able to get the ball on the ball every single time.”

Scottie Scheffler vs Greg Norman career achievements

Scottie Scheffler is quickly rising in the all-time great player rankings with every achievement.

Only a handful of golfers have definitively accomplished more, including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and the four other Grand Slam champions.

However, Scheffler’s greatness compared to players like Greg Norman is now up for debate.

As it stands, the American golfer already has twice as many major championships as Norman and only three fewer PGA Tour victories.

The Shark has nine more wins on the European Tour (DP World Tour) and over double the weeks at world number one, so he probably still edges it, but surely not for much longer.
