PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. (WHNS/Gray News) – Officials say a plane made an emergency landing on a golf course in upstate South Carolina on Thursday.

The Federal Aviation Administration said a Piper PA-46 made an emergency landing on the course at the Reserve at Lake Keowee around 11:50 a.m.

Old Edwards Reserve at Lake Keowee said the plane was flying from Elizabethton Municipal Airport to Atlanta when mechanical issues occurred mid-flight.

The pilot attempted but was unable to land at the Pickens County Airport.

Emergency Management Director Billy Gibson said the pilot sustained minor injuries. No golfers or course staff were near the site of the landing when it occurred.

The FAA said it is investigating the incident.
