And what a way to open up the second half of the season as the first place Houston Astros come to town game one. Astros enter the game leading Seattle by five games of the all star break. They are 16 games over Luis Castillo is going to be that right hander on the mound for the Seattle Mariners numbers on the season. He had 19 starts in that first half, 6 to 5 with a 3.41. Er, a ready to go on a Friday night is so parade is leading off. Eck has done a nice job taking over for Jeremy Pena one spot in the lineup and he starts this one off with a walk. Cam has faced Castillo twice and he’s 2 to 5 with a double chops this one to third. Nice pick by Williamson to second. But with Cam Speed, no chance Cam is going to go for second. He takes a wide round and he is going to get in ahead of the throw by the first baseman to Lotto Cam Smith taking advantage of that wide throw on the double play attempt and he’s in the scoring position one out and a runner in scoring position for Jose Altuve 96 down and out of the corner. Altuve goes altuve. That’s the first strikeout for Castillo. It has been a tough first year for walker after signing that lucrative free agent contract to come over and play first base for the Astros in the air to right field. Dillon Moore is calling for it and that’s it for the Astros here in the first Castillo hangs this. He here in the top of the first Walter is going to tow the rubber tonight for your Houston Astros does not walk anybody. Two walks in almost 41 innings so far making his eighth start tonight. Crawford has been much better this year against righties than lefties hitting 209 against lefties. Chopper slowly hit on two hobs Dub-n takes his time and makes the play on JP Crawford. Julio selected by the players to be an all star this year did not partake in the game, decided to rest up for the second half of the season and he gets julio Rodriguez to fish for that changeup. That is a swing and a miss and strikeout. Number one for Brandon Walter, two outs for Cal Raleigh nice ovation for the home run derby champion and arguably the first half MV P in the American League Hall third strike. He throws him on the inside corner. Brandon Walter off to a nice start striking out J Rod in Raleigh to end the inning arena scorching to end the first half. He’s homered in nine of his past 13 games. This one grounded past Walter. Good thing. He didn’t try to make the play. He did try to make a good thing. He didn’t touch the baseball and went right to Bryce Matthews for the out lined into left field a long at bat and it paid off with a hit for Mitch Garver. Nine pitch A B is a two out single tapper right back to the mound. Walter can take his time. He will and throws a strike to walker and that will do it Dub-n leads it off. He is at shortstop these days with Jeremy Pena on the injured list, that ball into right field for a base hit mauricio leadoff base runner for the Astros. That is their first hit of the night against Caste. There’s 23 year old Bryce Matthews playing in his third game with the Astros zero for seven. So far there you go. Get him on the board. First big league hit for Bryce Matthews, the dugouts yelling out to get the baseball Bryce Matthews one for eight. Now, in his big league career, the former member of the Astros Youth Academy has the ever Astros Youth Academy major league hit with two outs and now it’s 2nd and 3rd with a 12 count on altuve. Now, four for 20 with eight strikeouts in his career against Castillo. He got down goes altuve Castillo pitches out of trouble. Fourth inning baseball scoreless Astros with two hits and also a walk swing and a Miss Castillo with a breaking ball and walker comes strikeout number three hard on the ground. Williamson to his chest pops up over to first base. This guy is going to win a gold glove and it may be this year only the third walk allowed by Walter in eight career starts A man aboard in front of Cal Raley. Sometimes simple as best. There goes the runner and the pitch is popped high in the air foul. Is it playable Christian Walker hopes so and is playable. Rodriguez got a late break back to the bag. How about that? Where was he looking? Because he was standing between 1st and 2nd and had no idea that ball was about to be caught as a pop up. That was a miscommunication there. J Rod for Rosena over half of his season home runs have come in the last 13 games. Hammer. He has homer in three straight games. It is his 10th homer in the last 14 games for Randy Ros Arena. This is unreal 18th on the season and a one nothing lead that has been really good tonight. Two hits allowed no runs do some up. That is the definition of a pitcher’s pitch. That’s the fourth strikeout. He takes care of him on three pitches. The slider gives Dub-n swinging and missing strikeout for Castillo. He’s retired six in a row. He’s in a groove. The pitch to Matthews swung on, hit to center field in the air a couple of steps in julio. He waits for it. He’s got it another 123 innings for luis Castillo. He has put down seven in a row. That’s 11 in a row sent down by Castillo. Castillo is rhythm, hasn’t put a ball in play yet as he bats here for a third time, he struck out looking in the purr, struck out swinging in the third, held by Raley strikeout. Three punch outs of Altuve Castillo is through six. Walter doing a good job keeping the Astros in this game. Walter faces the Mariners for the third time through the order. That’s right there top of the zone as he takes a called third strike. That is 1/5 strikeout for Walter called third strike. Get Julio Rodriguez looking back to back strikeouts for Walter. That’s a half dozen tonight. Two outs in the inning has struck out looking and popped into what turned out to be a double play. Got him. What a start for brandon Walter , six innings of one run baseball. He strikes out three in his final inning pitch count is very manageable right now for Luis Castillo 32 coming to walker, he put him away down and in a 95 7th strikeout from luis Castillo. Luis Castillo has won his last two starts. The Mariners have won his last four starts and he looks all of that tonight. Pitch number 100 tonight, they lost him and this looks like the end of the road for luis Castillo one out shy of a full seven innings. His night is over with but a fantastic performance tonight from Luis Castillo who will exit to a standing ovation inside T Mobile Park spierer is on facing Dub-n Dub-n hits a high pop shallow right more coming in. He is under it and he makes the catch and Speier needs two pitches to bail luis Castillo out of the seventh homered in the final game before the break at the time gave the Mariners a lead in Detroit, a shot to center Garber. What a big blast by Mitch Garver. It’s what the Mariners do best they hit home runs. A lot of them two solo shots tonight. And so the Astros have the leadoff man aboard here in the eighth inning. Here’s Isak Peres represents the tying run zero for two with a walk and that’s lined to left center over a Rosa Rena going back, it’s over his head. One hops off the wall Matthews around third and coming home the relay to the plate by JP Crawford off line and not nearly in time. It’s an RB I double for Isak and it’s 2 to 1. Seattle JP zero for 3, 14 game hitting streak. Second longest of his career in the left field for a base hit. Young is being we in and he scores JP Crawford in the catches in a little and it’s 3 to 1 Mariners and here comes cal a chance to do some big damage. You’re a home run derby champion. 38 homers on the season. Cal zero for three drive right field touches down. Julio throttles down at third base and 41 Mariners. Here’s Solano, he’s gonna bat with the bases loaded. Mariners have a chance to break this thing wide open. Altuve does not have a strong arm. Julio at third. This is shallow. Here is the 5 to 1 Mariners on Donovan Soto sacrifice fly Garver homered last time. He’s had a good night. He’s two for three kicks away. Cal Raley is on his way home and he scores standing. It’s a five run lead and the flood gates have opened up for the Mariners in the eighth inning. So it’s Pizzo to get the final three outs. Mariners are up by five runs. Finds the only man right over there. Ben Williamson one down rolled over Williamson a little low and it’s handled by Solano two outs now, full crowd up on its feet. Taylor Tramel the last hope tonight for the Astros fair ball to first base Solano with Pizzaro covering and that’s a capper of the Mariners win 6 to 1 a tremendous way to start the second half as the Mariners knock off the team, they’re chasing the Houston Astros
