Ben Martin came out firing at
the 2025 Barracuda Championship, putting on an impressive show to grab the
lead after the opening round. Scoring a solid 16 points, Martin surged ahead in
the only PGA TOUR event that uses the Modified Stableford scoring system—a
format that rewards aggressive play. Starting his round on the back nine, Martin
birdied holes 11, 13, 15, and 16, then carried that momentum into the front nine, where he
added three more birdies at holes 2 through 4. With each birdie earning two points, his smart and
fearless approach helped him top the leaderboard. Trailing closely behind are David Lipsky and
Nick Watney, each with 14 points, while a group of players including Joel Dahmen, Cameron Champ,
and Danny Walker follow closely with 13 points. Dahmen, in particular, played a steady
round, keeping himself in striking distance. The Barracuda Championship, held at
beautiful Tahoe Mountain Club in California, is a unique test for the pros—offering 8
points for a double eagle, 5 for eagle, 2 for birdie, and deducting 1 for
bogeys. It rewards bold risk-taking over conservative play, and Ben
Martin certainly took advantage. Martin’s ability to string together
birdies shows not only his skill but his course management and calm under
pressure. With three rounds to go, the field remains wide open. However, Martin has
made a strong statement on Day 1—he’s here to win. As the action continues, keep an eye on the
leaderboard. Will Martin maintain his lead? Or will players like Joel Dahmen and Nick
Watney mount a charge in the coming rounds? Stay tuned for more updates, round highlights, and in-depth coverage
