Fleetwood speaks to the media following his second round at The Open Championship
Tommy, congratulations. Good round today. How do you look back on it? Yeah, I mean much better around today. Played a lot better. Got off to a fast start, which is what I wanted to do yesterday. It was, you know, constantly a battle and uh felt like I hung in there well, but um really wanted to get off to a fast start today. And uh so yeah, it was it was great. You’re obviously conscious you’re seeing what the leaders are doing. I know it’s only round two, but you obviously have to stay in within some kind of distance. I would have loved to have got a couple more. Uh and then yeah, just a bad shot off the last but overall a good day. Solid at the back as well on it on the last night. Yeah, I Yeah, I had I had a couple of chances on that back n I mean the bat n is the tougher nine like clearly. Um so I always feel like pars pars are always going to be good around there. I had couple of chances that I would have loved to have converted and those are the days where you get everything out of it if you like and uh but like overall you know 300 is a good score. I was um didn’t play well yesterday. really struggled. Um, so to have played better today and scored well was was really nice. I just wonder as well, I know you played in some big events, but how big a buzz is it when you’ve got those big crowds following you and obviously in Rory and all the excitement? I you know, I love the open so much. Um, grew up in an open town. Um, and I I think I think the atmospheres uh when you get sort of, you know, home players at the open is really really cool. I’ve been lucky enough to have a couple. I think playing with, you know, I played with Shane in the final round in 2019, uh Rory the first two rounds here. So, um yeah, get to watch uh get to watch um some good atmospheres and some good golf. And I do I you know, I love the Open. It’s uh I’ve always it’s my favorite event just because of where I grew up and and the attachment that I have to it. Um and yeah, it creates a lot of special moments like today. Wish you well.
