CHICO, Calif. — One of Chico’s newest amenities, ‘Beyond Golf Chico’ at DeGarmo Park, is making significant progress towards the completion of Phase One.

The facility will feature a nine-hole, three-par outdoor golf course suitable for golfers of all ages. Later in the project, an indoor virtual reality golfing experience will be added, allowing guests to play virtually at some of the world’s top golf courses.

Additionally, a smaller putting green and a ‘Starting New at Golf’ course will be incorporated to provide youth with the opportunity to learn the game of golf in a smaller, controlled environment.

The facility is a partnership between the Chico Area Recreation and Park District (CARD) and Beyond Golf, aimed at offering the community a unique amenity.

“This is something that people have heard about and now they’re starting to see it, and so right here on Esplanade it gathers a lot of attention. The hope is that Beyond Golf is able to connect with individuals beyond the golf community to really grow that community in ways that provide access to people that might not have otherwise been able to gain access,” said Scott Schumann, CARD Parks and Facilities Director.

The Butte County Youth Sports and Education Foundation will use ‘green fees’ to offset costs, allowing youth under 18 to use the facility for free.

Phase One of the project is estimated to cost around $2 million and is scheduled to officially open this fall. Beyond Golf plans to start phase two of the project within two years after the completion of phase one.
