Chris Gotterup shares the mindset that fuels his game, from staying aggressive off the tee to maintaining confidence under pressure. Go behind the scenes as he opens up about his journey, focus, and what it takes to compete at the highest level. This is the mentality of a rising star in golf.
It just simplifies the game so much more and um you really don’t have too much to think about once you go through that process. [Music] So Chris, we have a par five here. I mean obviously you got to pump one out here. We got trap on the one side. walk us through the mindset process of how you make a decision. You know, gather information from the environment, visualize your shot, focus on the dot, and, you know, execute your action. I think here we got a little left to right wind, a little dog leg right. Um, I’m going to try to start at the palmetto bush and finish it on the the last tree behind the green there. So, we’re going to try to ride the wind and get the most out of this thing that we can. Yeah, the last part is hopefully the easiest process. So you go through all the first two and and get the last part to where you can just hit the ball. Kind of like that. Yeah, that’ll work. We’ll do that. So, how close was that to the visual that you created for the shot that you wanted to hit? That was obviously, you know, it’s hard to be perfect, but if we were visualizing something in my brain, it would look like that. [Music] How do you think they would benefit at home with having a process? Because most people we know that play amateur golf have never even thought about half of these things. I know some of my amateur buddies when they’re over the ball, they’re thinking, “Oh my gosh, the wind’s off the left, you know, all this stuff.” And then they don’t think about taking a, you know, nice free swing at it. When you’re playing with your amateur buddies, they’re over the ball thinking. And the whole premise of the mindset process is to get you over the ball so that you can be crisp. You’re not thinking about anything other than being connected to the target, focusing on that green dot, and then just being an athlete. Yeah, for sure. I think that I think that’s about as good as you can get.
