although he was quiet he was quietly and in the respect of everyone debut for Sheamus Coleman who’s going to be playing at left back everybody wants Sheamus Coleman because of his determinations attitude commitment all all the all the good words but ultimately you have to be a good player might hit one here oh how about that oh what a stunning goal from Sheamus Coleman he epitomizes to every young person in this world right now that you have to work to get what you want an aggressive Runner a determent tackler a very competitive young man but Sheamus grou and group and gr and whatever you ask Sheamus to do he would do it and a bit more one of the best people I’ve ever met as a man firm challenged by Coleman it’s a great recovery from Coleman terrific determination by the Republic of Ireland into arsenal when you get a text off Shay after a game and he’s saying how well you did and and things like that you know it’s it’s a proud moment it’s kind of like I’ve got the text off share I’ve done well today and you see that’s the respect he He commands and and that’s how much of people and I speak for probably everyone else how much they appreciate him and you know you get a message off the skipper after the game it’s been a good afternoon and you know you can sleep well [Applause] KY bags to me is home it’s where I grew up it’s where I had the best days of my life home is is associated with my family and then my sport growing up everybody was Delight we were happy ourselves we two boys at home already Steven and Francis so that was another addition as Shamy progressed in his months first thing he had in beside him was a a football so he was constantly moving around by hand or by foot that he could whatever way but eventually the play that time there was a netting around him but he found found a we hole in it and he made it that a little bit bigger till he got through it and that was the start of his his Venture in life you know we knew Danny was going to be adventurous at something whatever it may [Music] be home is just it’s just a feeling you can’t really explain like when you’ve been away for so long I’ve been away 15 years now nearly so it’s a long time away but when you come back you know um it’s a special feeling [Music] very fortunate to unbelievable parents I know everyone says um they same about their own but been very fortunate and you Lads will know me understand how important like manners and respect are for me like regardless who you are what you do or where you work and um I thank my parents for that that’s why I was brought up and uh I think my mom and dad passed that down to us very well there Harmony most of the time with you know have there’s three brothers in the house there’s going to be a little bit of something at some stage but no aggressive or anything like that it just good fun [Music] like jam is a heart of gold as everybody knows he’s very good uh you do anything for anybody doesn’t matter what it was if he could help you with and and and still would you know that’s the type of H he is grown up in in some common cell uh this Housing state was honestly I couldn’t have hoped or wished for a better place to grow up there was maybe you know double figure boys and girls you know out and about on a after school every single evening whether it’s playing football you know tip the pole whatever any game that was going if wimble’s on the tell you’re playing tennis or whatever you’re just you’re just constantly playing sports so um it was a great place to grow up and you never you know you’re never kicking a ball on your own there was always someone out there to to to be involved with that was Shamy growing up he was always football was always out he could be out in the green there till maybe 11:00 at night 30 or 40 kids playing football and that was just a tradition then love grow up here like I said um so many of my friends lived all around the corner and some some up the hill there and yeah listen we had a we had a great time growing up and very fortunate eating dinners and doorsteps because you don’t want to waste any time outside you want to just get straight outside again like and you know getting called in at what 8 or 9:00 and that’s it and you’re in for the night it’s all the one state like but this is our this was called the circle and then as you go on up the hill you had um do other Lads up there and maybe seven eight Lads seven eight Lads there and H maybe more maybe 10 Lads there and uh yeah 10 Lads down here and you’d have a home and away game so our home games will be down here and the away games is up the back D had a pitch up the back as well and um uh yeah so just to kick off all the time but but now like you know we’re all the best of friends and we played the same club soccer club and the same Gil club and it was just in the Summers when the Rivalry be would be 10th when I think of that um you know my early days when I when I broke into Evert and people talk about you know the the mey runs and I used to get off and go past two or three people and the same at Blackpool and SLO and stuff like that but I I fully believe it k from like being in here and you know playing games we have to go past two or three people to score a goal like fullbacks like to get b as Coleman shows here where on Earth did that come from you know I see all the walls around the houses and over there and I just brings back memories of me and Gavin trying to in for that little box on the wall there and stuff like that so you’re forever honing your skills me and Bri MC doing keep you up challenges and trying to keep bettering it the next day and stuff like that so uh very very fortunate with where I grew up and it’s definitely played a massive part in in in my game and in when I moved to England as [Music] [Music] well she don’t like the pra or the Limelight but um so so important to to me growing up in in the national school um obviously it’s all gelic football that we played coming through here and Margaret was a was a massive influence on me and massive positive influence as well and was you know so passionate about the gelic and Margaret might or might not remember this but in the school here like it will be fifth and sixth class go together and mix and go away and play another school but cuz I was quite all right at gck I must have been doing quite well and she pulled me up from fourth class to go away with the fifth and sixth class team into kilar one day and uh it I felt amazing for me getting pulled out of fourth class like the only one getting pulled out to go and play with the the older boys but U not saying it cuz Margaret’s sitting in front of me but she she played a massive part and and giv me that confidence from a young age and she really believed in me and she remained a family friend throughout with my mom and dad as well I suppose she had everything in the sense that he had two Good Feet not one but two um he had a great attitude he never would have questioned anything I asked he did exactly as he was told to do uh his manm marking and his tackling was exceptional uh in all games um he also was very good to other players and that he brought them in with him you know and kind of try and included them in games and that his appetite to succeed in in all sports um was something else there um this year and that year there when he was in sixth class he was also part of the basketball team that we want to blood down in the um in the yeah oh my God and the Athletics again I mustn’t have been any good of basketball we only had one we had only one day of it so um but uh it it was just as positive attitude all the time and um nothing was ever a problem you know and the longer a game went on and we might be a point or two down the better shame we got M you know that was a big thing thing I would have seen he he was really Dependable uh to get the scores I would be from a sporting family you would be reading about other people you know that does that but she C in to think that she taught somebody um you know that went on to that level is is is really great he has sent me two of his uh two different years as well uh signed jerseys which is an honor uh and again I suppose it shows the ordinance of shimy and remember ordinary people that have come on out of his life like not ordinary people people that played a big part and for me it’s like you don’t forget that people have been good to along the way and you know you always have to make sure that you’re you canot repay that and whether that’s shorts or whatever the case maybe it’s important to to make the people feel you know and even Mar talking there about me going over to play like it is mad when I don’t really stop and think cuz I keep going and keep going and tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow and then like when you think like you played gck football till you were 18 like and then actually did go on to play in the Premier League you wouldn’t think it like You’ think it’s too late like to even get picked up but yeah thankfully it worked but again like Margaret says and she’s right it’s just that drive and played 13 14 years in Premier League it be very easy to kind of put your feet up and take foot off the gas but I’ve just got that drive in me and I just want to keep being better all the time you know [Music] gck was probably my first love and most definitely the sport I was better at you know played it from a very young age we had some very successful underage teams a lot of good players from the area and you know I was quite good at it and I lived and breathed it and you know still played loads of soccer with some Catherine with some great coaches looking after me but maybe not as I was still obviously very good but not quite as good as I was at gelic and you know I got to the point I was doing really well at gck but then maybe 16 17 I started doing really well at football as well or soccer we say here and um started doing really well at that and um you know I had a decision to make gag football is it’s massive in this area and it’s massive in the country as was to to one the county Championship to one all Ireland as as big as a World Cup to to to people locally it’s it’s everything just so it’s that’s that big you could see very early that even maybe by the time of 10 or 12 he was very hungry he was ail just like he is today he was you know just giving it all he was organizing players and you just knew there was something that the slad could develop and at that time we were thinking he could be a very good Gil footballer and because he really was very very competitive you seen it in the gck how good he was he would have been always if he was playing gck he would be a county player now we playing for d the go uh he always had that in reserve but he was also a great soccer player like I mean any any games he he went from other age up he excelled in the [Music] allall I don’t know if the kids around here appreciate the fact that we have a man from Kelly B eggs in this we Corner that’s like more of a stronghold hold gilic football with the small club that we are that’s batter in a way that he becomes captain of our Irish team and is also Captain the of the club in the in the Premiership it’s like there’s days you’re going holy God what’s what’s going on and I sit and watch the TV days going like that’s that’s shy there Sheamus in St Catherine’s was a underage coach 14 16s but we’re neighbors as well yeah long long before that yeah I’ve known him since he’s that eight I I he um his door like too over from us and need a lovely big backyard and him and his brothers to be playing football in it and like i’ be over peeking over and desperate for the little invite to come in and even from the young age even before we come down here John be telling me go get the ball against the wall Left Foot Right Foot Left Foot Right Foot and it was just desperate to get involved with them boys at time so I’ve known we’ve known each other since before this involvement but then massively there was we blonde head just to pop up loads of blonde hair like proper but you see the head he was always a Hardy we booger um like when he come in to play with us the football and kick about you wouldn’t be afraid to toss him or around cuz he was just you were sturdy weren’t you and tough um and when like at that time there was loads of kids within the Housing state so you had to be a bit tougher and he was small so it made him tougher that way um I said that to them about the housing estate like we’re all competing against each other and I was playing with David and Dan four years older you were getting kicked and then you played against obviously the boys up the front and it was it it was tough like you had to be tough he always give you like 110% there was no half measures ever um but at the very young age there was nobody that really really stood out because he was small back then any of the boys from here that went to and on Trials were more physically built and a bit bigger so you didn’t get like no underage like County developments and stuff like that there and soccer um um you kind of matured more after 16 on yeah when my physical side came through yeah so like John saying there so like County teams when so soccer County teams that g teams was never a problem but the soccer teams I’d always get to that last triler stuff so the big tournaments for young Lads in Ireland was like the national cup Kandy sorry Kandy Cup and the foil cup but I’ve I never played neither of them like so you know that I just wasn’t getting that last bit but yeah when I got to like 16 17 is probably when out there like started to you matured more then as physically and stretch more the they all look up to to to to Shi uh you know there’s um a lot of them would would know him for years from when he comes home and he comes up here and he he he takes part in training sessions with them and they all look up to him and I mean they’ve seen what he’s achieved across Channel and you know and at home to captain of Ireland I mean that’s that is huge and it’s just a Pity some more of our younger players that don’t have the inspiration and the drive that Sheamus Coleman has he just had that’s something about him and he he always wanted to do better he’s improved all the time but it’s not only that it’s how he treats everyone else I’ve I’ve seen Samy at the airport with kids I’ve seen him up in the Aviva with with kids and and the way some players would put their head in their air in the air walk past shimy stood and and talked to every one of them for hours is is thec person and shim would Doan thing and he has helped this club out so much he’s forever doing good deeds he doesn’t advertise it but we we know what he does he’s he’s just a good person even nowadays like with the all grown they’re all grown men and have kids themselves we still have a great bond between everybody it makes no difference like she’s premier league and Irish Captain but if you were sitting in here and all the boys are together he get the same abuses as the rest of them and they’ll turn year they’ll turn on so that bond is always there there’s a few people that on Facebook on social media and and one man in particular lately because we’re the town’s been developed again it’s getting a bit of a facelift said that um I think it’s time there’s a statue goes up in town for our Irish captain and he’s s shaking his head going no no no who they that but that’s how important it is the then manager of SL Rovers uh Sean Connor a conversation one night down the town with one of the Frankie Mor who’s an executive of the club about getting friendly and what we did was we were going for the league that year uh back in the back in 2006 and basically what we did was we uh they wanted to play on Saturday we had a big league game on Sunday so what we did was we drafted in a few players from other shr clubs just to fill up the squad so we played our strongest team in the first half Sheamus played center half he played against the two top scores in the National League the uh the season before and Sean flan and Rafael cero uh shy marked the two uh which showed him and others you know we had something so after that game uh the manager came and spoke with us and asked about taking Sheamus the slago in regards of maybe get them train fulltime at the time Sheamus was playing with schools in the national team as well as well as his local school and playing here as well so it was a massive thing for that there obviously F hars the local Club came in as well but just for whatever reason Sheamus decided he want to go to SLO he felt more comfortable with it so that was the the kind of first time that happened [Music] [Music] like his journey originally going away from home was going from KY Banks to SLO and that was that’s only an hour and a halfway and that was difficult enough you know and that time he be fin his training he come home May every chance he got and go back again but that was the start of going away from home my name is Mary mcau I was Club secretary at sliger overs during Sheamus’s time in the club I was the club secretary who was involved in signing Sheamus and selling Sheamus for the 60 the famous famous 60 Grand yeah first time I met Sheamus would have been when he came here to the ground to sign for us very quiet Young Flair um lovely kid um and he’s never changed once he went to sler over you knew that something was going to happen you know not where it would be but I almost I almost felt that he had enough talent for to go farther which he did people started to talk about him even watching him in training and then he made his debut for us I would think it was in Dairy um on a night that we were badly beaten but he Shan you know and then um from that on we really knew after a couple of months we knew we had a gem then um sha Connor left and we recruited a manager called Rob MacDonald and Rob MacDonald one of the first people he wanted to let go with shamie Coleman and we said no he’s not going anywhere and like we were meeting resistance like you know the board are picking the team but I think the board were just looking after the interest of the club then Rob McDonald left and we signed Paul Cook as manager and cookie came in and Sheamus immediately became an integral part of the team and from there on that’s where he was again a lot of the lads in Ireland come from gayc black isounds where they they haven’t really been in football acmis in general but they brought up probably a little bit of a more tougher environment if you like it you know i’ been told about Sheamus where people there was different opinions on that’s as any young footballer today there will be different opinions you know but from watching Sheamus train initially you know he certainly had real qualities his desire has wanted to get better you know that just shun out like a bright light we played shammer Rovers here on on on on Irish television TG kaher and he got mad at the match that day and Shams you know they wouldn’t be the team though are they are now but they were still a very strong team and he tore them aunder from right full really to be honest he was he was outstanding he was up and down the pitch he was you know making crosses making tackles coming in having shot on his left foot you know you know playing one twos with players he was just everywhere and I I think that day at his age you were thinking yeah this fell is you know he’s he’s he’s not going to be here for long really and and when you seen his attitude off the pitch and and his dedication to training and you know we would have been a decent enough team for partying off the field as well at that time Sheamus never got involved he was just here to play football and you know anytime he got a chance he was straight back to killy beg so it was it was H he was really focused but that game for me was probably the turning point where we knew he was good but you know that time it was on the Telly he got real exposure and it was like yeah this Fell’s the real deal you know shame is being a young glad whose qualities were probably a lot more without the ball then an aggressive Runner a determent tackler a very competitive young man but Sheamus grew and grew and grew and whatever you ask Sheamus to do he would do it and a bit more and that was just a perpetual motion going forward well Sheamus was great what funny story we’re playing Bohemians One Night in the show grounds and Bimi with a big doublin Club live on the Telly so we had no markers so Sheamus would do anything you told him whatever you told sheam was to do he would do it so they had a ster playing Glen Crow we had mismatches all over the back four so we had to go man for man Sheamus had to pick lenow up so about five six minutes into the game I told Sheamus the minute they take to call it grab him and don’t let him move grab him don’t let him move 6 minutes penalty Bohemian penalty and Sheamus is looking at got in the year 2008 in the summer I just left a job and I had a bit of time on my hands and my son was playing for slgo RS and obviously I wanted to go and watch him play and spent some time with him and um I see three or four games in the space of about six weeks and then I was in the process of coming back to Everton because I’ve been at Everton before in 97 to 2001 doing the of Excellence sceleton so I come back that year for 208 to Everton and um spoke with the coaching staff about what the requirements where my job was to try and find or une Earth young players between that age of 17 21 between the academy and first team and see if we could get some couple of young players and develop them to go on to the first team so after seeing Sheamus for you know three or four times I then had the license to go over as a scout representing Everton to watch him so I went again a couple of times and um the rest of sort of History he was unbelievable you know what in that League obviously the league the standard wouldn’t have been to Everton standard by no means but he was just 1019 and he was raw Sheamus was so raw he’s fast you know got stuck in Up Down the Line forward backwards great energy and just looked a really talented Prospect to me in my eyes so what next uh um I spoke with the the coaching staff ever since the time and eventually spoke to David David Moes and I told him me feelings on the player and I was also a good friend of the the slago manager Paul C who comes from Asad as you know and Paul was all prais for him because you know it’s good for him that he’s got a play that maybe can go on the Premier League and we all agreed like we have to take him um Paul did suggest we could maybe have a look him for a few days but I sort of put me me cards on the table and said no we need to just buy them you know don’t don’t don’t wait around let’s get them in and get them sound and that’s what we did I think mck had said I think Sheamus went on trial at Birmingham and Celtic possibly and you know sometimes when you do that and the clubs don’t take them you’re always a bit wary you think oh they must have seen something we we’ve not seen and and quite often for lots of young players who might have been in that situation at different times themselves uh you know if you’re not sort of uh you don’t put yourself forward well enough then you know obviously you might never get taken by any club but Mick seemed to say was worth worth getting in we got them in you got to remember at that time Tony hibbit was still relatively young you know Tony hibbit was was the right back and and uh it wasn’t as if we were absolutely desperately in need of a new right back at the time but we were always looking for good young players I’ll never forget you know um having a good couple of years at SL ago and actually getting the phone call what ever wanted me and I was upstairs in my bedroom and I got a phone call to say this might have been a Friday saying listen there’s been a bit accepted um from Everton you’re moving over on Monday and like any other kid would be absolutely buzzing but I had to have a moment to myself up in the room not because I wasn’t buzzing obviously I wanted to move to England I wanted to be a footballer but the initial thought and feeling I had was like I don’t want to move away from home like that was I was like it was like not that I was gutted about it but I definitely had a a feeling of sadness with with the excitement as well so it was a tough time moving away from home was very very hard for me and I think because of the type of F I am I kind of kept it away from my family how tough it actually was you know over there on my own and uh Rachel moved over after two or three years and then things started to settle a bit more but I definitely struggled and you guys will know I’m not the mo most social fell in the world and I’d no real interest in hanging out with the reserve team after training and all the rest so I was literally train home apartment Sleep Train and that was my life like and in the end I think that’s a reason I probably had a career because that was my only focus like I was in England to be a footballer not in England to go on a night out in concert square or whatever the case would be it was just I’m over there to do one thing and one thing only so the tough times actually were probably would help me as well cuz I knew what the sacrifice was for [Music] there’s been lots of interest of your move here to Everton from Sligo overs fans um have you been reporting back with how you getting on over here so far um yeah well uh I spoke to the SL a website there just before I came over and that and to be fair the fans over there were great for me when I was there so I’m sure they’ll be looking on with interest you know how did your move to Everton come about um I don’t know just playing away and back home and I heard a lot of rumors of club’s been interested and then come January I heard Everton we were’re going to make a bid and then that’s how I heard of it so and for your future career you looking that far ahead yet um no I’m just going to take one step at a time and of course everyone’s ambition is to play at the top level so I’ll just wait and see you know hopefully it’ll happen match day three in the Europa League and the blues visit one of the most famous stadiums one of the most famous clubs in European and indeed in World football it’s the stadium of life and it is Benfica a debut I can tell you for Sheamus Coleman who’s going to be playing at left back Dan goling there’s Coleman Dan goling drafted into the back four as well it was a tough game you know and um not going to make any excuses I I’ll learn a lot from it and I I did learn a lot from it and I wouldn’t change it and I know we got beat 5 n but for a learning thing it’s been good for me and you know I’ll just uh push on from it and learn every I’ll learn from every game anyways to make a substitution here clearly Joseph Yobo not able to carry on and so the substitution being made Sheamus Coleman it is who’s coming on had as all the youngsters did such an excellent game over in Athens he’s going to come on the field Joseph Yobo not able to [Applause] continue David Moyes just pointing out one or two things Joseph Yobo giving some encouragement to the youngster Sheamus col coming com on with one or two instructions and uh he’s come through a really TD time to prove that point good tackle by colan for the E Coleman making the Run forward still colan he’s done really really well and it’s a goal by Louis Saha his 11th of the season and it was made by Sheamus Coleman cleared but only to Coleman clipped in chance here for pina the it’s in it’s scored by Tim Cahill set up again with the help of Sheamus Coleman that young man Sheamus Coleman as much as anybody showed the sort of fighting spirit that aonian everywhere love and ability and he had a really really outstanding game yeah to be fair I was h on a high after the game and that and was just just coming off that cloud now to be fair but just enjoyed the moment that but it’s back to work now and just want to train hard in that again the manager has established kind of a leadership group um and yeah you were um wanting to wantan to impress them as much as you you might have been um wanting to impress the manager as well I think that was one of the manager skill sets really is sort of he took us time to get the right person as well as player in the door and then put them in that sort of position where they could then influence from the inside out and carry his sort of message in terms of his beliefs and what he wanted um so when you come into the club he would definitely want to impress th those guys just as much um and then again as squads do and they evolve that group kept evolving but what he’ done I guess again is he’d gone and S signed people I think um that he knew with with the right fit and yeah as as the squad evolved in terms of the players that that group of of men uh changed as well but they were always the right people and I think that was really important for the manager that they had the the right values and personality Sheamus as a as a person fits that mold perfectly to go in and be a leader and I think initially he come in and everyone knows what a humble guy is as well and he come in got his head down and done the work and you always after to I believe um show certain things to earn the respect of others and although he was quiet he was quietly earning the respect of everyone um in the building on the training pitch because of the type of person he was the one thing I’ll tell you about is he is a top boy and he was then as well very serious I know uh very very polite you know uh very respectful and uh I remember him coming in and I remember having him as a young boy and as saying wow he’s know he’s got some he was really good going forward at the time know he was on the V been a Winger actually and uh but he was a fullback he was very good going forward but had a bit to do because he hadn’t really been around the professional level which we were at at the time and that was where the time was going to be needed to to sort of prepare him for the Premier League we went to Blackpool and Loan actually but and that’s the bit I remember and that’s really where he where he started to more develop because it was a chance where he came in trained with us a bit and then we realized we’ll need to get the boy out Lo and and get Sheamus out in loan and that’s the bit but I remember where he probably it really started him getting closer to be a first team player [Music] so the first day of training I knew he was a bit different he just got how can I put it the skill that he’s got is not of a fullback do you know what I mean it isn’t it is touch what he wants to do how he sees the game it it it was a progressive you know aggressive Progressive type of attitude that I wasn’t expecting for me I’d signed a senior Pro not a young one do you get what I mean that’s how it felt like and and right from the first training session how professional he was was quite shocking in training he would pull up the other Lads because if they if he didn’t think they were training right and and I had some great Pros in that team and to put him on my training ground it made a difference that that’s how I judge people what are they like when they don’t get what they want now he is the perfect person that you want he don’t give up he don’t blame someone else he just makes a difference himself he tries even harder he gets even more determined and he makes a difference if that is chasing someone back to get a tackling he does it you know he will not have anything but a winning attitude and some kids they want to be winners and they look at what the winners do when they’re all flowing and they see these wonderful stepovers and all that but it’s about the Phil fans of this world who chase back twice as hard as they go going forward to make sure they win shame must had that in abundance you know and I think it was boring in him right I honestly believe the signing that everon made back then for him probably their best ever signing if I’m being brutally honest so well done to mois I I can’t speak highly enough about him and the pride that I’ve he’s given me just watching him from afar is I can’t tell you that he epitomized is to every young person in this world right now that you have to work to get what you want you have to work hard to be the person that you want to be Against All Odds no matter what happens no matter because you don’t have good times it’s about what you do when it ain’t going right that matters and he absolutely epitomizes his own success because his spirit and his skill level and his character shines through all of that and he is someone I would trust with my wife as well as my life right do you know what I mean if she touched his leg he go what are you doing Kim get out of it I love OE you know there ain’t many people like that you know what I’m saying and if we’re in the desert and I got a last little bit of water I won’t worry about him cutting my throat together get it he would share it with me and I would share it with him do you get what I mean so what more can I say I’ve been flattered to have met him and to have known him he’s shown everybody in the world how you should wear that badge do you get what I mean and I’m sure you EV every Everton fan will understand because they don’t take fools do they they don’t take them they love him for how he played the pride that he played with that and that’s what I’m saying that is that’s something that you don’t normally get he took that Pride with him wherever he went and whoever he played for but underneath all of that there was a belief and there was a drive to be as good as he could possibly possibly be and not accept anything that wasn’t good enough now that’s what you’re crying out for that’s what the world needs I think quite emotional I feel quite emotional because Daren been many some of them are special and I don’t I treat them all the same like me grandkids they’re all the same love them in different ways because they’re all very different but he’s he’s one of the ones that has got the ultimate because it’s it’s not just the of it that he’s got he’s got the reality of it and he wouldn’t change and he hasn’t changed from the day I first met him to who he years now so am I surprised at what’s happened to him absolutely not I was devastated when we got promoted i r moisy and he went on now he’s going in my first team mate I went to watch him a couple times and he was doing great and as I said he was Sheamus was really good going forward at the time and you know he was he could run know we we used to call him like Forest Gump because he was know he just he just kept running and that’s the way he was at the time but uh had a bit to do on his defensive side and and know get better how he was going to defend and that helped him that was a big part of it getting out and playing League games which is for a lot of young players and I think when you’re coming from Ireland from the level they’re at coming in so it was a good move to get them out and Loan and then when he come back then we had we had real competition then with with him and Tony hibbit [Applause] [Music] Coleman reacts well Sheamus Coleman for Everton worth the go and he scored Coleman scores for everon [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] the relationship that I had with Sheamus on and off the pitch I think you are although you’re on opposite sides of the pitch you are connected often times at fullbacks you’ll you know not always but in a lot of teams you’ll be find that you know if one’s joining the attack the other one’s maybe sitting below the ball and adding a little bit of security underneath it so you are naturally sort of connected although you playing on opposite sides of the pitch and then again off the pitch there was just always I think we’ had similar Journeys when we first come to the football club and uh like I touched on had to sort of get our heads down and and do the work and yeah we we sort of we became closer and closer as as time went on as you do when you spend you know 10 plus years with someone and again again from my end it was just always uh a deep respect because say i’ sort of seen them grow and develop um and really flourishing really and and becoming a leader and I think he he ear my respect in lots of ways but in particular it be when times got tough when we when we were going through a bad patch uh things weren’t going well he was the first guy to just step forward and that’s so important in a group um and it makes you feel safe to step forward as well and the more people that step forward the safer you feel in difficult situations um and it can be tough to be the first one and he was always the first one I think a big part of why Sheamus has been sort of globally accepted by the fan base as well is that they see a person there that’s aligns with the values the the fantasy as a as a player who they want to play for their football club I think Everton we feel is quite unique and and special in that way and they want to see certain things I’ve always always said to any new signing who comes through this door if you show the right attitude and work hard you’ll get given and afforded every chance by Goodson Park in particular because they want to see that you want to see people who who are ready to put it all on the line and um show the the the correct attitude and work ethic on on the grass when they’re out on the pitch and eventually of course you’ve got to have the right quality to play at the right level but evertonians will always give you a chance if you show that you care about the football club and I think they’ve seen that in Sheamus and I think they’ve continued to see that year after year after year I’ve never met someone that loves a football club more than he does and it’s not just you know it’s different when you see it every day and you’re you’re involved in it and you know you stand beside and walking out onto the pitch um a real Captain and someone that really embodies you know you talk about embodying the the spirit of the club he is someone that that you would look at and he really does embody that and I think people should know that in terms of Shay’s influence amongst uh probably the younger Lads in the group I mean obviously you’d be better speaking to the them but what I saw was um a leader who found a real nice balance between holding them to a standard and a level of accountability on the grass wouldn’t hold his tongue for a a second if they thought they were coming off it and they weren’t in the right place and I think they respected that I think and they needed it and then I I think in terms of the balance what he did is I think he was great at just having the quiet words with people as well and I feel like whether it’s difficult to hear something in the moment if if it’s that you need sort of nudging back into line I think when you step away you appreciate someone who’s taking the time to try and do that and again what I think it was also really good at is when people were having a difficult time getting around them showing them a bit of love kind of sensing what they needed and I think that was a skill of his trying to sense first of all what individuals might need and go out of his way to give them that but also what the group needed um there’ definitely be times on the grass where he might just do something because he’s felt the feeling of this needs to change whether that’s with his actions and just leading by example on terms of applying himself in the session or whether it’s vocally and sort of letting people know that things need to change quickly um to get the most out of the session he was he was always in a position where he was so deeply respected by the whole group that if he spoke they’d listen a great man you know I think a loyal humble hardworking person and I think someone who I’ve grown to appreciate more the longer I’ve been here and the longer I’ve worked with him I think when I joined uh when I was 19 you know I was young um hungry a little bit hotheaded and I think you won’t mind me saying we didn’t always see it why and I think as I’ve got older I now understand what he was trying to do from his perspective cuz I was I’m probably roughly the age he was when I joined Everton so I think he always made sure that you know I kept my feet on the ground and if I got carried away which I didn’t realize I was getting carried away you know he’d he’d nip in the buard and like I say we we we had our fair share of misunderstandings in the beginning but it’s someone that now I look look to and you know there’s no one I respect more in this in room and I think he he deserves all the credit and the appreciation that that he deserves and one thing that people won’t know is when you get a text off Shay after a game and he’s saying how well you did and and things like that you know it’s it’s a proud moment he’s kind of like I’ve got the text off share I’ve done well today and he see that’s the respect he He commands and and that’s how much of people well I know I do and I speak for probably everyone else how much they appreciate him and you know you get a message off the skipper after the game it’s been a good afternoon and you know you can sleep well Sheamus col when you know when you look at it no for my boy it’s he’s only had one club now and us I know he’s been out in Lo but he’s only one club at Everton and that from that point of view I think that says a lot about him as well because to stay at one Club means that you have to AFF a a great ability Great Character uh still is good boy to to have in any dressing room and uh you know he’s a really good career when you consider where he started you know I think shame has brought what he has I mean that ER I think everybody wants at their cubs they want a Sheamus Coleman because of his Ty he determination his attitude commitment all all the all the good words but ultimately you have to be a good player know to to earn those accolades you have to be a good player in the first place and he was and he was he was a really good player for us uh time where the club we we brought in some some really really good signings over over the years and it was a sort of continuation we we when you look back at the amount of players we brought in and and how many of were want to be successes it was it was a great time to be at the club and great time for Sheamus to be at the club as well you have to start thinking about aretta Pina Jag Ela Baines kahill Howard you know you could go on and on about a bundle of players and you know you going about yeah there’ll be there by the way there’ll be some plenty of bad ones in there as well but uh I think that period you know even getting distan and lescott John Stones you know there was there was a period where we we just we I wouldn’t say we with the conveyor belt of players but we had such a good recruitment team uh Sheamus was a big part of that you know it it no it’s the the scouts I would give all the credit to the scouts because the scouts were the ones who were out getting the job done getting the players in MC doerty was the one who who recommended Sheamus Coleman and uh and he deserves the credit for it Sheamus’s Journey’s been been a great one as he’s had longevity at the one Club he’s uh been involved but ever the history when you look back back through some of the great players know uh Sharpie you know uh R you you go through loads and loads know I think sheam is from the generation he’s been in there he been I’ll be recognized in that way maybe maybe not so because we’ve not won the trophies or ever haven’t won the trophies were which were required through that era but but I think that there was a different type of success which was maybe being in European football you know challenging the top teams for long periods and Sheamus was Sheamus was a big part of that actually I will say that Shay has given stability to the club when it’s been quite unstable you know behind behind the scenes um he’s been that one person that through through all the ups and downs on the pitch and off the pitch um he’s been there still leading the troops kind of thing and I think it’s one of them probably you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone and I hope that Shay you know continues to play and keeps keeps getting the best out of himself and keeps going for as long as he possibly can I know him long time ago now and he’s for me is the best keep best human being you know and uh so even when I was not there when I went to Paris we keep contact keep messaging him talking about talking by message and uh yeah very very good relation because when I arrive he welcome me and uh his way to to be you know like like human always smiling and giving everything on the pitch and out of the pitch is different person like smiling taking care of everybody so when I arrive he take care of me and my friend Umar too so uh and that’s why maybe I I have a different relationship with him and I like uh people who work hard and him in the pitch he every time everything and he love the club too much so that’s why maybe you have a good relationship as a human being like I say he’s for me the perfect the perfect guy and I and I never do that that’s cuz G is back I never do that I think Sheamus is a club and uh he’s a he’s a perfect player for the club he gave everything he love the club too much and every time when you talk about the club you can feel it and I think it’s important to keep this type of person in the in the club so when you have a new players they can learn a lot from him they can see how to be an perfect Everton players CU he’s always in a good way always try to help people try to help the club and he put the club in front of his own uh how you say own perspective so for me is is is it this type of players we need in this club and we have to to learn a lot from him very difficult to sum it up um quickly because um it means everything to me it’s it’s been 15 years of my life um it’s you know I’ve said many times it’s family and football for me and that’s all I have to us as a family everything mean everything to us because uh definitely give shamie the opportunity that he has now and um obviously they seen something in him that he’s there for as long as he is and we couldn’t be any more proud of him it’s amazing it can be tough as well obviously last last few years you live and breath it as well and you don’t get away from it so you know it’s it’s changed my life changed my family’s life I’m so grateful this football club and uh I’ll always you know be very fortunate and very grateful that I’ve played a part in the history of this football club by uh you know playing as many times as I have and um it’s an amazing amazing football club and unless you’re inside it on a daily basis unless you’re part of the fans unless you see the people in the street you don’t or won’t ever understand understand what it really means to the people The Pride we’re so proud of him because like me it’s good to play for uh Team like every but they end up Captain coming from a village like keny Banks it’s it’s just unreal everybody’s just blown away with it I think if I lived anywhere else bar Liverpool for the last 15 years maybe I wouldn’t have had the same connection that I have had with this football club because on a daily basis I see what the football club means to the people in the street and that’s something that we don’t uh forget either and you know I think it’s my duty at times as well to to re relay their messages to the players for the players that maybe don’t get it to make sure that they really understand what this football club means to people I say it all the time it’s their life you know they travel around the country supporting us but it’s when you see them when you meet them that you can really you know the face doesn’t lie and you can tell how much ever football club means to them through good and bad times so very grateful that I stayed in the city I’ve been part of the city and and got to witness that and over years it’s it’s going of helped me grow into the the passionate loyal ever player I am today there were many things I I admire about him first of all the interviews he gave too uh when he was speaking to the press in a curious way he was quite conservative about new players arriving in a club you know H you know in really I think I really admire that very much too is that you know there was a you introduced yourself to the club and you introduce yourself by uh by offering discipline and you’re there to be part of a club and part of a team rather than it’s not a vanity project and I think what he represented then to uh young players is something enormously significant I think because it is the the importance of Valu and that you have to have values for yourself and the game must have values something I think that everon what he gave to them very very much he’s loyal and and I know that the supporters appreciate that very very much too and I think that that’s H that’s important because you’re not just paying for your personal satisfaction for 90 minutes and it isn’t only your own outing on the day or your own reputation that is involved it’s about what a collective group called the team and that’s what I think that’s what the real football supporters appreciate B of M there with M Coleman is my bill didn’t get many compliments from him that sounds like a [Music] compliment mom’s kept this um this is like my first ever goal for St Catherine so I was about 67 s like 67 um but we used to have this thing where like the poor manager at the time for he’s not the manager anymore but Frankie M he had like 11 players and then he had about 20 Subs that would just follow him around the pitch hoping that he’ll turn around and get them on so on this day I was one of the subs following them everywhere I still remember it like it was yesterday mom and hour at the game and I got on for 10 minutes whatever and obviously mom’s kept the article substitute for some Captain Sheamus Coleman come on and scored immediately for the home side to leave it 42 at at full time so it is great looking back at all the stuff um this is just like trials that have been yeah schools trials getting picked for the Ireland school boys teams and stuff like that and uh that was like a life could have different was like a scholarship for America to go and possibly play over there if my academic skills were up to it but they watched me in a game and said that uh the opportunity be there and they sent me out the whole lacets and details and all the rest but no that was not something not you wouldn’t fan me going there would you no wa it’s gone quick yeah yeah it’s only like a flash yeah yeah it’s hard to believe like when you see that first one there at 6 years of age and now there a lot yeah a lot of time G by and Char gone quick you know Dad was massively involved um when I moved to SEO first you know over and back driving over and back all the time taking me over after maybe work in the morning he’ do a night shift take me over and then um there’ be times where he took me over and I found out I’ve got a day off the next day but Daddy would take me over come back and then H I would ring and say listen them off tomorrow and Mom Mom would be like get yourself back there and get him like so he’d literally come back turn go back and get me but again we keep going back to the F thing that I just wanted to be at home you know and and all the rest so so send there to us me and Dad in there gck don’t know it just keep the bad stuff or not no no the bad stuff [Music] yeah this club will will never leave me um means too much to me and you know I’m so happy that you know my career being at this football club and you know I’ve had you know possibly many opportunities at different times you know to maybe go elsewhere but for me it was um you know I’m so glad things like that never happen because I’ve got a real Bond real connection really love for a football club and I mean it and I’m happy about that and I’m happy that when the time comes that you know as my kids keep getting older and you know we have a team that we support and we’ll have a team that we support for the rest of our lives now and we can take them to the games at the amazing new stadium and uh really really happy Everton is not just to me H not just to my wife and kids but to my family uh extended family my wife’s family ever just has took over our lives and uh we couldn’t ask for in my opinion even there even though there has been some tough times we can ask for a better football club to help come into our lives and very grateful very proud very happy to be an everon and hopefully the fans see me as that but that’s what I believe I’m a big everon [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 6 for

  1. A Top Human being. Legend of the game. What a documentary though 👏. Geezo. Emotional. My fish were weeping so much the tank overflowing. This season is gonna be Great. Our Boys have got a team there to work off. I know what I saw at that last ever pre season with Roma yesterday. So glad to have been there to see it in person. Let's freaking Go boys. 🚶‍♂️

  2. That was emotional. Such passion for the game. Every football player / fan should see this documentary to show what it takes to be such a professional whilst still being an honest quality person.

  3. so ive just came across your channel a few days back and i just love it, yhe way you explain things and show without any edits, ets. cant wait to try your method becouse ive tried other methods from a experienced trader and lost my earning from that month (about 700 usd) i was so angry. but i said it is what it is and moved on, ill rather say o well then what if. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

  4. Ashamed to say it took me a month to finally sit down and watch this video but so glad I did. Brilliant stuff. Unfortunately just watched Slabhead do him some harm today in the Ireland v England game and I hope it isn't serious because we need him!!

  5. Can’t believe Celtic not signing him when they had a change at such a young player. Enjoyed watching him his whole career with Everton and Ireland. What a legend of the game

  6. I remember the boo boys when Seamus 1st arrived, I seen his talent straight away ! And now he's an Everton Legend imho … I live about a 2 minute drive from him , but I wouldn't dream of going near, very modest place he's got though…. outstanding player and fella 💙

  7. As an Irish man, im so proud of Seamus for what he's achieved in his career, especially playing for his country. It makes me sad to think that his retirement is not far away. I think he's the last of the old school mentality footballers that we will see unfortunately. Im hoping he goes into management after he retires

  8. Bit depressing seeing the quality Seamus played with in his pomp compared to now. Ian Holloway is SO funny!😂 "I can trust Seamus with my Woif and my Loif"
thank you Seamus for all you have done. Hopefully leads us out in our new stadium next season. Our 2nd youngest rb😂

  9. If the likes of rashford had his drive and personality they would be world class. Hes very much gary Neville

  10. when he speaks to his primary school teacher every second of that interaction tells you exactly who he is as a man. God bless him, and please god the youth look to him as a role model. A world full of Seamus' would be a wonderful place to live

  11. Represents the very best of Irish people – alongside Katie Taylor

An absolute inspiration for kids from here that want to become something 🇮🇪

  12. His childhood was exactly same as mine across local park 24/7 playing all sports! I only made it to county standard & trial at port vale but he is pure inspiration to all kids from council estates you can do it. True gent of the game & proud he’s captained my club for so long god bless seamus 👏🏻

  13. What a brilliant review of Seamus throughout his career. You can see he's a very humble and grateful player and a credit to his parents , Everton, and the fans who have supported him since day 1. It's great to hear how he is viewed by players and management alike and will be sorely missed playing as club captain. He can definitely be counted as one of the Goodison greats who has left a lasting impression on the club and fan base. If every player could be like Seamus then we would never need to worry. Seamus Coleman, Everton through & throuh. Thanks for everything.

  14. A consummate professional and the epitome of what Everton Football Club stands for. He has grown as a man and as a person and has been the best captain for us through good times and bad. I can think of nobody better to lead us out at BMD, he fully deserves it. The best 60 grand we ever spent in terms of value for money. He really is the definition of NSNO. If Carlsberg did football players……… OABAAB 💙

  15. We have been very lucky to have you play for us, we need more players like you, you set the standard, thank you for all your hard work.
