my search for the perfect torque-free putter continues today as you know I’ve tested pretty much everything out on the market but not this one this is the antidote the SB1 from Bettonardi this putter is for you traditionalists someone who likes a blade putter maybe you’ve been putting with an answer style ping or maybe a Scotty Cameron something like that if you are a blade putter you’ve been wanting to get into the torque-free revolution but they look just too alien this could be the solution for you we’re going to test this putter out here on course but first let’s take a closer look here’s your closer look at the SB1 now unlike the SB2 this one is milled from a single piece of steel very clean design one thing that I noticed looking down at this from the get- go is this alignment line i think I would love to see that line continue from the back to this portion of the putter this is more of a T-shaped alignment but it doesn’t connect that would be nice to see honestly but apart from that man is that a good-look putter just like with the SB2 the aesthetics carry over from the head cover that honeycomb pattern so really thoughtful design in terms of aesthetics here the milling really first class you’ve got horizontal grooves cut here along the face and you’ve got circular brushing as well it is absolute perfection in the metal now unlike the SB2 you can actually pick a ball up with this putter the grip on the Anidote series definitely not my favorite it’s more of a rubberized kind of an old school grip most of the putter manufacturers are opting for a little thicker grip with a little softer touch that would be my preference as well but pretty standard for Betardi putters out there on the shaft you can see this one is made in the USA so I do love that about the Bettonardy line you’re getting an Americanmade product and man is it a beautiful one of course looks is one thing performance is another time to put this one to the test all right when I’ve got any new putter in my hand the first thing I like to do is just take a few putts from kind of a medium distance this is like a 15footer pretty flat putt maybe breaking a little left to right looking down at this one yeah it’s just much more again traditional looking and for speed and stuff right off the get-go not a bad putt now the other thing I noticed there with that first putt is the sound is excellent it’s got uh a really nice soft kind of thuddy click to it i like that some of the other putters in this category just don’t live up in terms of feel it’s just too different and if you put with any Bentardi putter or any putter of this caliber this feel is going to off the bat just be much more relatable and the less you have to adjust probably the better when it comes to putting so just for a quick initial test I really like those results but let’s get into the nitty-gritty next now a quick way to test if your putter is actually zero torque or not is if you don’t have a revealer you can use your index finger and I just spin them and on some of these putters that claim to be zero torque they want to orient in a particular direction but when you have a true zero torque putter it will spin independently on your finger and whichever way it wants to land is where it wants to land this one doesn’t seem to really have a preference it’ll land pretty much wherever it wants to come to a rest and then again it’s kind of weird but that’s how you know your putter is truly torque free betard has done a great job with the balance of these putters all right so in this test we’re going to test long putting you never want a three putt if you can avoid it that is a killer in golf killer to your score we’re going to take some 40ft putts here and see if we can knock them tight and get those two putts now I actually have a pretty good idea of how this one’s going to break and the speed I need to hit it at because we’ve been testing a lot of putters out here today so it’s not my first time with this particular putt so really no excuses to not knock them tight like that one that was really really good again I’m getting expected feel sound and performance out of this one without really having to feel like I’m adjusting to this putter which I really like now that one I actually hit off the toe a little bit it was not a great strike but boy is that a good result in fact oh thought I was going to drop there for a second that’s kind of a critical thing in putting is if you don’t hit center contact every single time sometimes putters lose speed that one didn’t that still got through it really nicely that one I hit dead center of the putter and that’s really good in terms of performance all of these are extremely makeable especially those two are dead we’ll be doing here the short putt test soon but let’s get a quick early indication of this one yeah it’s going to be nice I think so three for three on longer putts here to start with that bodess really well let’s move on to the medium putt test next all right now for this medium putt test what we’re going to do is take two putts from three locations and if you watch my videos you know this stat which we’re going to put up on screen for you but the pros make these 8-footers just about 50% of the time just a little under 50% amateurs make them more like 33% of the time so there’s a real big gap that I think these zero torque putters can help you close a little bit and if you do you’re going to drop your scores very likely one or two strokes per round on these putts these are ones that we just need to make more of as amateurs so I’ve got three different locations here we’ll take two putts and we’ll see how this one does this one’s breaking a little right to left for me downhill a bit and that is dead center this is not a putt I’ve taken here today so this is all read in real time woo slipped in the side door there love that now we’re already at the average for most amateurs at two out of six putts that’s the 33% we were looking for so now we can only improve upon that this one is now moving uphill just a touch again still right to left but a little bit more uphill here got to hit it just a little firmer oo I like putters when they lip in i hate them when they lip out not that that’s the putter of course but in golf I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t some superstition involved more than anything in putting you have to feel confident with the tool in your hand it makes such a difference now we’re already at the pro average by the way we’ve got three putts in the hole so now we can only improve upon that this putt pretty flat maybe moving just a little left to right at the end did I hit it hard enough i may not have just got to hit it a little firmer that’s the line again three variables in golf getting the line right getting the speed right which I didn’t do there and then keeping it online that’s what the putter is helping me do so that was right on line just got to get the speed right now just missed it well still hit the pro average there for the first time hitting those six putts so that bodess really well for the medium putt test in my opinion and I think this one did really well again in terms of just feeling natural coming off the putter face with the right amount of speed the right amount of top spin which is really important they do such a great job at Bettonari milling these putters precisely so that you’re getting over spin immediately all in all really good result let’s move on to again maybe the most critical test of all which is the short putt test so in this one what I’m going to do is place the ball three to four feet around this hole we’re going to give it seven different locations we’ll have a little different break for each of these putts so we’re going to have to read them and we’re going to test if we can just keep this putter head online it did really well in both the long and medium putt tests in my opinion but this is where when the money’s on the line sometimes putters can break down let’s see how this one does first one here is going to be pretty straight sometimes the hardest putt to make is a straight putt i caught the uh left side of that one though when it went in steadied the ship here really important thing that you’ve got to keep in mind with these putters to have loose hands you may have seen that on my SB2 review a couple times I strengthened my grip a little bit and that adds torque into the putter whereas if you keep your hands loose and just keep that pendulum swinging that putter is going to stay on plane like that all right four for four so far that’s good this one’s moving a little more right to left now as we change directions on this hole little downhill from here all right see if we go seven for seven there’s only been a couple of putters that have done it for us and we did it so obviously a great result here from the SP1 when it comes to short putt tests honestly for me this putter seems to have it all you’ve got really good pace with the long putts again something I didn’t have to adjust to something that didn’t feel unnatural like some of these torque-free putters did very well from the medium putt tests and it performed exceptionally here with the short putt tests if you’ve been resistant to these torque-free putters this is one I think you’ve really got to try because again with that more traditional blade shape to it the fine quality of milling that one piece construction the feel and sound this one has I think it’s going to be a winner for a lot of folks definitely give this one a shot i hope you enjoyed this review if you want to continue on the zero torque putting journey here I’ve got a couple of other videos you’re going to want to watch and I can’t wait to put this one up against some of my other favorites out there real soon catch you back here next time on another edition of Let’s Play Through

  1. I use an Odyssey Square 2 Square Jailbird. That putter is like cheating. If you like a Versa look, this is the putter you want. I previously used a Jailbird Cruiser.

  2. Still loving the docus! Dunno what’s gonna get me away from that thing!

Have you ever heard of sink golf from the uk? They make beautiful art pieces and even have some zero torque putters!

  3. Thanks man! You are always bringing the 🔥 reviews! How about another giveaway for the antidote? Haha

  4. Bettinardi is trash. The gucci or supreme of the golf world.

No new ideas or concepts, just exploitative, overpriced, overhyped trash thats bought out via bots, in under 10 seconds.

  5. I don’t believe I found a Video of you trying out “Honu” zero torque putters. I would love to see your review on that putter. Also it’s first ones I’ve seen offer option for a putter grip made by “BJM Golf”. They “BJM” make, I think a revolutionary putting grip called the “Kotahi” putting grip. Again I would love to see your review on that grip as well! Thanks for your vids, love them!

  6. This comment doesn’t have anything to do with golf but you can’t totally trust made in the USA tags, I’ve been told only a small percentage of the products or materials in them need to be sourced from the USA. Just a few years ago I had a friend that told me a job he did fairly often at a factory he worked at was to take parts out of a box made in Japan and put them into a box that said “Made in the USA”

  7. Gabe, did you get the upgraded stability shaft or just the standard? Have you tried the jumbo grip option?

  8. I have the YES! Carolyn from 20 plus years ago which is basically the first version of this. Still gaming it and usually having about 6-8 1putts each round. Makes a massive difference to the score

  9. My journey started when I tested the LAB putters, and saw potential in the LAB Mezzi Max and OZ.1. Being analytical, I also wanted to evaluate other zero torque alternatives.

I’ll back up Gabe on this Bettinardi SB1 putter which I discovered in a golf shop and noticed tremendous “in store performance”. Enough better than my Bettinardi BB1 for which I had no major complaints. This SB1 is deadly on shorts putts and mimics Gabe’s performance on medium and longer putts. Great feel on every putt. Still, I would recommend that you get “fitted” for your SB1. My lie angle was adjusted to 71 (+1) and shaft length of 34.5”.

  10. Wow, this is the best looking zero torque putter out there, will definitely be trying this out. Thanks for great video

  11. I compared to the Link 1. This putter won out. I swapped out the standard grip for a Super Stroke Pistol 1.0. I upgraded to the Bettinardi stability shaft ($$$). Tried the bigger ZT mallets. Liked the SB1 way better, including the SB2. I thought it kept the ball on a straight path just as well as the ZT mallets. Deadly on short puts. His tip on loose hands is spot on in order for the ZT tech to do its thing. Compact head shape, good weight @ 360 grams fit the bill for me. Easy to align behind the ball.
