Luke Donald is putting the band back together for Europe’s Ryder Cup defense and it’s nearly complete. Franchesco Molinari has officially been named as the fourth European vice captain for the 2025 Rder Cup at Beth Paige Black, rejoining the leadership group that helped secure victory in Rome in 2023. The Italian veteran links up once again with his brother Eduardo Molinari. Rder Cup legends Jose Maria Olazabel and Thomas Bejorn as Donald continues to surround himself with trusted lieutenants. Now 42, Franchesco Molinari etched his name into Rder Cup history in 2018, becoming the first European player to win all five of his matches in a single event. Though he won’t be teeing it up in New York, he’s more than ready to embrace his leadership role on foreign soil. I’m very happy to be part of the team again, Molinari said. I really enjoyed working alongside Luke in Rome and supporting the players. Luke is such a smart switched on leader. He sets the tone for everyone with how much he puts into this. That passion trickles down. Looking ahead to the challenge at Beth Page, he added, “It’s going to be tough, no doubt, but everyone will give their all. I’m proud to contribute once again.” Donald was equally enthusiastic about Molinari’s return to the fold. Franchesco knows how to win Ryder Cups. He’s been part of three winning teams and that experience is invaluable. Donald said, “He brings a calm, composed presence. He listens, he’s thoughtful, and when he speaks, it’s with purpose. That steadiness is going to be vital in the cauldron of an away match in New York.” With four vice captains now confirmed, only one name remains absent from the 2023 backroom team, Nicholas Kulsarts. The Belgian was a key figure in Rome and is hoping to be part of the squad again. Speaking to Bunkered C a UK back in May, Kolsarts made no secret of his desire to return. If there’s one thing that keeps me watching closely, it’s the chance to be involved again. It’s the best week in golf. There’s nothing like it. You feel truly alive that whole week. I’d like to believe I’ve got a good shot at coming back, but it’s all up to Luke. Hopefully, he makes a right call. With September drawing closer, Europe’s RDER Cup machine is gearing up. And with familiar faces back in a mix, Donald is setting the stage for another memorable chapter in golf’s fiercest rivalry.
