Amateur Golfer vs THE OPEN: Break 90 Royal Portrush
You ever wonder what you would shoot at a major championship golf course? Well, I’m here to answer that question for all of y’all today. We’re at Royal Port Rush ahead of the 153rd Open, one of the best tournaments in golf, one of the oldest tournaments in the world, the Open Championship, to answer one simple question. What would an amateur golfer shoot at a major championship golf course? So, this is one of the most famous holes in the world. Yeah, for a very obvious reason. What makes this golf course so hard, you might ask? Well, longer holes, taller fescue, and greens as devilish as the Irish wind itself. My goal is to break 90. Sounds simple, but not easy. God, look at 18 over there just staring at the champion. This is one of the truest tests of golf. It’s the last major of the year, folks. My name’s Eric. This is Break 90. Never done a Break 90 in Northern Ireland. Sleepy at this time of day. 6:13 in the morning. Love that. Golf gets you up. Golf gets you out of there. I think you’re going to have a great day. Golf course is looking great and uh hopefully the sun comes out a little bit too. It sometime shines in [Music] Oh yeah. Shot. All right. That’s fine. My goal today, no penalty strokes. So, I’ll see you. Thank you. Thank you, man. I appreciate you making it happen. No problems at all. I know this is a special privilege, so we’ll uh we’ll honor that as many ways as we can. You go and enjoy yourself that way. Thank you. Appreciate it. See you later. 144 to the pin. Yeah, it is cuz it’s uphill and stuff. I wouldn’t play any less than that to be quite honest. And I favor the right hand side of the green. So, probably like a 140 shot. 145 cuz of the wind. Yeah. Where you think the pin’s on the front? Uh, no. I think it’s at the very back. Okay. Oh, man. How good does it feel to play some golf on a Friday morning? It is still rolling. Yes. So, basically, we have these uh mats at the minute to protect the course for the hot spots for the open. So, you’re in an area where the pros are likely to hit it. Uh if they top their uh approach, maybe. First time ever played the old course, I had to play with these. Yeah. You know what’s funny is I was like kind of bummed and then I realized it doesn’t matter and it makes the game easier because I cannot chunk it. Yeah. This is this is chunk. This is chunk relief. So So you’re about 70 yards up there. Love it. It’s nicely played. Might need to sit. Feels good. Thank you. Thank you. Cheers. It’s just going to go a little left or right there. Actually, you just want to land it just where the green sort of starts the way it’ll run on out. So, just the left hand side. Yeah, it’s nicely played. Sit. A little little bit of a pull there. Okay. Thank you. Go, go, go, go. All right. Our line is just you see not the big hospitality building, but the little smaller one with the white roof to the right of it. Yeah. Sort of down there. All comes in right to left this fairway. Okay. All right. There’s like two new holes on the golf course, which is like super interesting story, you know, because it’s like you’re going to you’re going to change the Mona Lisa, guys. And uh they kind of made it better. Like it’s they’re good holes, you know? They’re really fun and cool. Thank you so much. No, not a problem, guys. I’ve never I’ve never had one of these. Feel like Tom Brady. Yeah. Oh god. Let’s see it. Let’s get him in there. Oh, this is nice. So, the goal today is no penalty strokes. Uh, don’t make doubles on par fives. Take an extra club. No three putts. What can get out of here, you think? Um, seven, eight iron at the best. Nine iron. Maybe. I would go the more lofted. Try the n. Maybe pitching wedge. Just let’s let’s make sure we get out. Let’s Let’s take our medicine and then we can make sure we get on with the next one. Yeah. Well done. Hello. I’m heating up after the handle. I was going to say that was a good You’ll probably experience four seasons in this one round. Look, uh here’s the thing, boys. I uh I don’t play that much golf in cold weather. So, best comment regarding playing in cold weather. We’ll get this thing mailed to y’all. It’s one of the coolest things. 217 to the flag playing. It’s 200 to the front. So, I would sort of go sort of 200 205. Okay, cool. That wind. Um the right hand side of that green again. Well, five iron. Five iron. No problems. A little of an uphill lie. Yikes. That should be on the 12 fairway. That was miles left. So, we’re on this golf trip, right? Random golf club hosted its first major, which is a week-long golf event for our members. 24 lads made their way over. Got two from Singapore, one from Germany, one from the Netherlands, three from Canada, and the rest are from United States of America. And um so we all came out five rounds of golf in did a nine hole meet up. So been playing a lot of golf and um I’ve been um progressively getting a bigger and bigger cut. And so that shot I tried to kind of do that down swing and I did not hit a cut. 61 yards there to the flag. And what do you think it is to cover that on cover the front of that pins just on sort of 10 yards there. So 50 yards to get over the top. That was a shank. That was a good shank. Which you don’t hear that often. We are cold in more ways than one. How do you feel about these shots? Um, bump and run. I’m going to hit my hybrid. Hybrid. Yeah, I like that. So, there’s like a little light pad just sort of flagging the right. I think it’s good. Just want to play it over that hill. This is for par, right? Yep. Come on. It’s nice he played far away. Yeah. Great shot. Great link shot. Yes. It’s the little things, you know. It’s the little things. It’s the cream in your coffee, you know. It’s the smell of the salt air. It’s a text from a friend on a tough day. It’s hitting a hybrid 25 yards to 4 feet for bogey on the second hole. But break 90 at Port Rush. Yeah. Get up and down. Back of the hole. We back. That is a huge up and down. That was big six. That was a big six for old Eric right there. We needed that. You just want to get the ball on the dance floor here. Yep. 156. It’s a early taste. Scott, look at 18 over there just staring at the champion. It’s just a real subtle golf course in terms of views. Yeah, it’s just folds over on itself. It’s kind of like lasagna or something. I have a huge update for those of you that care about golf. This update will include coordinates of the major mean honestly, this isn’t a bad place to miss. Pin high. Good number. Yeah, we like being on the number. That’s the main thing. Keep that positivity going. Feels right, Amy. Right. Yeah. It’s kind of this kind of length. Yep. Feels good. That looks lovely. Yeah. Good shot. Nicely played. Great shot. Thank you. I told myself, great shot. You have to I can make this. Look, there’s a there’s a golf out there. He’s probably didn’t speak English, you know? He’s like a Sanskrit mother, you know. And you and you know what his mantra was? I can make this. I hammered it. Our four stroke index number one here. So obviously we want a favor of a right hand side of this fairway. Yeah. So this T- box which just moved about 30 yards back for the big guys. Check this out. So on the on the yardage book, right? So this bunker and this bunker are 100 yards away. But when you zoom in here, they’re the two bunkers right next to each other. One on top of each other. You would not think there’s 100 yards between them. To cover that first bunker is 278. Let’s get it. Yeah. Yeah. It’s ground. Yeah. Okay. It’s been six years here on the bag. Yep. Um what uh what are some highlights or experiences you’ve had that that are really memorable? Um a couple of years ago I actually got the caddy for Butch Harmon. Whoa. Which was pretty cool. Yeah. Really really cool guy. He you know must be really interesting to to you know he’s a student of the game. A teacher of the game. Yeah. What did he teach you? Um just really sort of simple things. He was going over some stories of his past like chatting about sort of players he’d worked with. And I think um Ricky Fer was actually messaging at the time. He was out showing him swing videos and stuff and it was just for me surreal to see that sort of live and in action and yeah really funny guy really down to earth and I think he shot his age at Royal County Down the day before which was 79. Wow. So he was on a high yeah great shot. That’s cover that. Yep. Well done. Really stoked with that shot here. We got a really hard hole. It’s playing over par with the best golfers in the world. So, you know, we’ll be happy to kind of curl this around and maybe get up and down from the fairway, which is one of the things we’re trying to do today. 87 yards. Okay. Air still a little bit heavy, but and yeah, the green all goes right to left. Okay. So, camera guys really see Yeah, man. I have not made one good swing today. Oh, here we are. Jesus Christ. So, in this, do you usually take a longer club? I would take your most lofted and close the face. Punch into the back. Like a like a fried egg kind of. Yeah. There she is about to lay an egg. Yeah. I mean, I need to Do you have a sharpener so I can sharpen the edge of this? [Music] Yeah, it was so hard. Oh, yeah. It’s a great golf shot. Well done. Simple. Yes. Okay. Great up and down. Thanks. Well done. Good read. Thank you. Thank you. All right, baby. This is the hole. Yeah, this is the one the pros were driving. Yeah. During the week, really picturesque par4 dog leg to the right. This is cool. Yeah. Can’t believe we’re already on the fifth hole. I know. Time flies when you’re having fun. Yeah, gripple. That felt good. Yeah, gripple. Well done. Waited on it. Thanks for the swing tip, Amy. No, the slow down swing tip. Man, it’s funny. Golf is a game that takes forever and yet we get so quick. The swing is the shortest part of the golf experience. 1 second a shot, whatever. Maybe 90 seconds around. 89 seconds around. I mean, yeah. Wow. There are the cliffs. It’s so great, too, cuz it’s a peak. It’s just a chapter. It’s not the book. Um, obviously don’t want to be long here. And it looks like it wants to roll out. Yeah. Oh, yeah. So, you want to get in that top tier. So, probably play like 65. I Yeah. I mean, I just feel like I need to keep playing less and less. That’s weird. Oh, hell. What am I? That’s three shanks. I think I honestly do think you’re coming up if that makes sense. Like you’re not staying down following through. So I think your body’s just open and then you’re Yeah. Keep your feel like you’re exaggerating, keeping your head down. Okay, cool. Wow, this is so delicate. This is so dainty over here. Yeah, just want to play over the top of this mound. Let it run out the last we bit. That pin is in the back. That’s thick rough. Okay, we will put from there. Yeah. Sprit pot. Oh god, this ising sick. It is so stunning. I know. I’m, you know, scraping around some doubles, but like for me, even a couple doubles, those aren’t big numbers, right? It’s a chill day. Chill day at the office here. We’re excited. Got an ace cam upon us. How many hole ones you got, brother? I feel like I’m going to take a guess. Three. Funny. I have one, actually. It was on this hole. I can’t wait till the day someone asked me how many homes I have, and I was like, well, it was on this hole. We love it, guys. Who’s Tom Moleholland? Donated by the family of Tom Mhalland. Muse, rest, enjoy. You know, I would always have said I’d love to have a bench on a golf course after I die. Trying to Can’t be mad at that. Go. Best of the four, Amy. Long walk with a putter. There you go. I’m gonna I’m gonna handcuff this thing to my belt. What’s your dog’s name? That’s Nala. Nala. Nala. Hello. You seem friendly. Oh, you have a lion and the Lion King apparently. I know. A Can I just take a look at this? One of the coolest putter head covers I’ve ever seen. This is awesome. Yeah, my pal got me out for my birthday. Are you a dead head or something? I love it. There’s a whole set of them in there in the shop. Really? Yeah. Yeah. You can get them all. That’s a cool Yeah. Yeah. Dogs on a golf course is something uh we over haven’t figured out in America yet. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, she’s he’s uh she’s well known right here. All of Ember’s knew her. Enjoy. Oh, it feels so good to hit a good shot. You know, just that was right on the face, you know, right where it needed to be. Really found something there. Amy’s so helpful with that. Go, go, go. Yeah. Grandpa, get par. Well, well, well. If it isn’t Mr. Young man par himself. Man, how cool is this place? So, this is one of the new holes. You know this? Yeah. Yeah. I’ve never been back here before. Jesus. I’ve never seen Never been back here. 606 yards. 606 sounds like an area code. So somewhere very far away. Yeah. We’re never getting into that bunker on the left. No. So if you want to even aim at that. Got it. But the more right you are, the more open Yeah. you are. And and you really never get into the green and too uphill with not with this window. So it’s a three shoulder. Cool. I like that. You know, just tell me like it is from the T- box. Yeah. Gripple. Yeah, that felt good. Perfect. You followed instructions. Well, thank you. David Deval took a 14 here in the open. He did not. Wow. David, that’s one of the rules. You don’t take a 14 on a par five. You might as well make a seven. What’s the number you’d like to see off the club? You would hurt. Yeah, 220. 220 would hurt. I mean, I could I could hit the hybrid or if there’s a wider landing area, shorter. I mean, at the end of the day, it’s a wedge into the green. I could I could hit a five iron or a sixiron and just have a pitching wedge in. Yeah. Which one are you more confident with? I will hit a better sixiron which I just hit. Yeah. This is the Rubik’s cube of golf. You know when you’re like here’s how I solve it. Everyone does it a different way. Just take the line of the flag there, Eric. Okay. At the flag. Okay. That’s what I was worried about. Get down. That’s okay. Little bit of a blind shot, which I love. So, we’ll see how that goes. So, I just want to play it. That’s the pin. Yeah. Okay. It’s a bit right. Oh, got a nice kick. I think it’s near your camera guy, but you should be pumped. Let’s go. Let’s go. Oh, it felt so good. Felt so good. You know, we’re out here just collecting feelings when it comes back. And does it just kind of straighten out a little bit? Yeah. Towards the end of the uh pot, it straightens out. Yeah. Oh, go. Whoa. Go. Didn’t move at all. So, we’re walking into eight. Yep. We got four bogeies, two doubles, and and one par. Yeah, we can improve. Yeah. I mean, the swing’s only feeling better. Yeah. Bailed out on that one. Yeah, you’re okay. You have an eyebrow trimmer. Do you guys have one in the pro shop? I Royal Port Rushy eyebrow trimmer pins on the back tier there. It’s a wide enough green to be fair. Yeah, big enough green, too. But it’s 199 flag. He’s Oh, wow. That is way in the back. Yeah, it’s right at the very back. We’re going to have 55 front. Yeah. Polyard long green. So, I’d probably just play that in the middle to be quite honest. Like sort of 175. Oh boy. I could actually actually probably going to need to sit. Sit. Shook down a little too much. How long have you been doing this for, Eric? The videos. Yeah. Um, seven or eight years. Oh, very good. Yeah. You must love it. I do. I I really do, actually. Yeah. Yeah. Not only do I get to travel around and play golf in interesting places, but I have like a a chance to like meet interesting people. Yeah. And like listen for a while. Yeah. Yeah. I feel super lucky. Yeah. It’s a tough sport to sort of compete at. That’s why I love working on it, too. Yeah. So good. Yeah. Traveling the world a we bit. Yeah. Not too bad. It’s a great way to travel, you know? You basically fly somewhere, spend four hours with a stranger playing a game that you’re not playing against each other necessarily. I mean, you can play a match obviously, but Yeah. But even in a match, you’re just a real player knows that they’re just playing against themselves anyway. Yeah. Just kind of like having a It’s like solving a puzzle with a clock. Yep. Very true. So, we got to get it here. Yep. You could play a bump and run or your little rescue shot. Okay, let’s play the hybrid. Love that. True Lynx player. That’s great. Yeah, I love the hybrid. This looks like overall it’s kind of right to left. Yeah, definitely. Much smoother than a bunker shot. Yeah, well played. Yeah, well played. Very good call. Not a problem. Sick. [Music] Bernie sauce. Come on, dude. That was sick, the other way. I mean, I I did what I said I would do. All right. Good. Five. [Music] Yeah. Yeah. Ripple 155. Um uphill. A little bit of cold wet air. Uh pins in the back. I’m going to play an eight iron, which is essentially clubbing up given where the pin is. Nice. Nice fluffy lie. So, uh, who won all the majors this year? Okay, Rory won the Masters. Um, the US Open, uh, was strangely, I know it was a strange, it came into a playoff, Ash Batia, and the, uh, the PGA was um, Sahit. So, and the open will be uh, Rory again. Really good strike. Oh, on the green. On the green. Yeah, it just didn’t Yeah. I mean, how greedy can you get on the golf course? How greedy can you get? You could go from Yeah. Thanks, Amy. No problem. A golf a golfer is the definition of give them an inch, they’ll take a ruler. Oh man, you were close. Best part of the day. All right, shall we snack? Just call it a second. What’s the soup dour? Tai fried sweet potato. Thai spice sweet potato. Yeah. Yeah. Make it nine. I mean that is a fantastic. A soup at a golf course could be the move. Absolutely. A lot of golf courses don’t offer soup in the right receptacle. What do you want? A bowl with a spoon? That’s never going to work. How about the embroidered bibs that y’all have? They’re good, aren’t they? Is that everyday? Yeah. So, this is not an everyday one. Have you ever seen another embroidered bib? No. Right. Tell me. Don’t think so. Yeah. Great ball. Back nine, folks. We’re back here making the turn, having the soup, feeling feeling fueled. Front nine was a tail of two nines. If you can somehow fixate on that math. Two pars on the card feels great. I think it might be time, guys. I think I need to dispatch from my uh from my satellite that I’ve been traveling with. Oh, it’s a speed bag. Speed golf. Rob would be loving this. Is it a sixiron par4? It’s a big long green again. About 40 yard long green. So the pins at the very very back there again. They’re doing it to us. I love it. Front edge will be 160. Yeah. So front. So it’s weird cuz sort of want to play the middle of that at that black and white ball. So okay. Yeah, it is downwind. That’s a great looking shot. Yeah, that’ll work. Should be good. Should be good. Yeah, great shot. Great shot, guys. Guys, it’s happening. It’s happening. We’re going to make two in a row. There’s no green cam, so it’s all a mystery right now. I’m told it’s on the green. But look at this quaint little green. This is so cute. It’s like seven times longer than it is wide. Very cool to be on the green. Sixiron would have been too much club. I love that we’re not over complicating this game. That’s fine. All right. All right. Fairway green two putt. Who this? Wow. Oh, what? What? Wow. Looks pretty good, doesn’t it? That is crazy. So, the reason I thought it would be fitting for it to be on the ninth T is because this is actually Darren Clark’s replica, Clar Jug. This is the one that sits in the cabinet in the clubhouse. It doesn’t come out very often, Eric. Only on very special occasions. This year, the the golf club has decided to name the ninth hole, Darren Clark’s. He loves this golf course. This is his favorite golf course in the world. And uh and he’s very proud of the fact that um you know those, as I said, those those trophies are here. and uh and equally proud of the fact that you know the club has bestowed this honor on him that that uh you know the the hole is going to be named after him for everyone. That’s so cool man. Wow. That is nuts. John 95. Amazing. I’m like just won the open. Oh, that’s going to be in some thick stuff, huh? Yeah. Yeah. It’s in line with a We’ll have a look. Even though this is the first of two backto-back fives for members and normal play and visitors and guests, this is actually a long par4 into the wind for the open championship uh players. So, if you are going to have a go at it, the line is the buggy at the back of the green up there coming with that wind. That is a great shot. Yeah, just front of the green. Just down short. Great shot. Well done. He goes he Jesus. That ball was pitted. Ride the bell and get pitted. Come on. Yeah. Nicely played. That’s a great shot. What a guess, you know. What a guess. Oh, it’s so good. But I couldn’t see anything. Yes. Great. Never a doubt. Easy. Well done. Lucky ball. Good read. Thank you. Turn in. Okay. There. What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a chance at greatness. We have one of the nicest lies one can uh, you know, be offered here in the rough at Port Rush. And we have a pin that’s 265 yards away, which is the perfect distance for this wonderful forwood here. But hey, let’s face it, folks. The gorse blooms for how many weeks a year, Amy? Mainly the summer sort of spring, summer months. Yeah. It’s the uh it’s the cherry blossom of Ireland, if you will. Linewise. Got it. Yeah. Okay. Always left or right. And that’s pin or that’s that’s just left of the pin. Okay, great. That’s a great looking shot. Yeah, good shot. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Green. Easy. Yes. Fine. Brick. Break. Brick. Yeah. Good pop. Thanks. Yeah. Good pop. Thanks. Good par. Thank you. So many pars. Yeah. Easy game. So many pars. Yeah. We went for four in a row. 9 10 11 12 13 Oh, it’s a par three. And I said someone’s going to get a hole in one. I’m not going to stop talking about it. Whoa. Haven’t been in a bunker all week. [Music] That changes. Trying to know. That’s new. All right. So, been in Ireland for a week. Haven’t been in a bunker yet. I I literally haven’t been in one in four and a half rounds. And I just have I have thought about it many times. Have said nothing ever. I almost said something on the 11th hole. You know what? I love bunkers. I mean, as much as I’d like a bench to commemorate my short life, I might rather like a bunker, you know? Yeah. Great shot. Go, go. Well done. First bunker shot of the week. There was a 49% chance I was staying in the bunker. It’s good pot. Straight P. Straighter than it looks. [Music] the number. Go. Yeah, good shot. Thanks. Well done. Stay there. Should do. That’s such a good lot of false fronts on the back. Thanks. Yeah. Yeah. I hate approaching this hole. A little right to left here. Yeah. Yeah. At the start it moves a wee bit sort of left to right as well, but overall Yeah. Right to left. So, I would go um probably see that little dog patch. Oh, wow. Okay, cool. But inside it on the on the edge. Yeah. Okay. Well done. So, even though there’s only four holes left with seven shots to play with to shoot 89, would you say these are an easy closing four holes? It’s an interesting finish. That’s what the next par three is probably one of the toughest par threes in the UK, I’d say. Probably not. Yeah, in the world, I’d say. All right, so we’ve have our work cut out for us. And par four, dog leg to the left. Bit of an awkward T-shot, but you see that little tuft. Yeah, the blonde one. Trying to Yeah, we’re trying to go around here if that makes sense. Oh yeah, I see. So that little tuft, if you just hit over that or just slightly left of it, we should get up there then. There’s a ton of space. Yeah. And everything slopes left to right as well. That bunker there. Oh. Oh. What? I didn’t see it. I’m going to read, guys. Wait. Is it in or is it out? It’s in out. It’s in. It rolled in, out, and in. Yeah. Make up your mind. From here it’s 182 to the uh is that front edge number or middle? Yeah. Yeah. Front. Um so the pin is probably about still like 200 and that’s not accounting for the wind. Just want to sort of try and get it out where your camera guy is standing. Yeah. And then we should have an easy enough little iron shot in. Okay. Yeah. Well done. Okay. Sorry. A chance for the next. Yeah. Yeah. We look back once we get through here. Here we look back over like the eighth and seventh and yeah, you see about back going to the fifth. It’s like we’re on Mars. Come in. Don’t go in the bunker. Trying right in the bunker. Sit. Hit that good. Well, I uh 20 minutes ago I hadn’t been in a bunker all week. Now every other shot’s in a bunker. How does that ball go straight into that wind? I know. Tell you what, though. I’m really glad I’m not in that. No. That That’s where That’s when you uh That’s just awful. Start punching your ticket to Big Number City. Yeah. It’s a cool bunker shot, man. That’s where one of the cameras will go for the open. Oh, cool. Little bunker cam. That’s a vibe. Yeah. I’d probably smash it. Thinner it right into it. Oh, what a shot. Well played. Well done. I like that. The sand is so soft here. It’s so nice. Go, go, go, go, go. Grip up. Thanks, Yeah. I mean, so this is one of the most famous holes in the world. Yeah, it is. A little getout zone is Bobby Lock’s hollow there. Bobby Lock. Yeah. Call it that cuz when he played the open here, he got up and down there every day for park. Every day on the left. Yeah. Calamity Corner for a very obvious reason. Down the right. Kind of reminds me of Bobby Jones’s putter. Wasn’t it called Calamity Chain? I think so. Yeah. I wonder why he called it that. Three holes left. You can do it. I can afford to make two doubles in a par. Yeah, but we’re going to make burgies in part. I mean, that would be sick. Just start just start depositing cash. Yeah, we got five shots left. You have a chance for home one. She has Amy’s got a good point. I said we were going to get one. That looks My dad actually had one here. What? Yeah. Five wood straight in. One bounce straight in. I wasn’t here. You’re actually Could you even see it go in? Uh, I think they said it was one bounce, hit the flag and they heard it ricochet and then the guys up there started clapping. Yeah, this hole can either be a calamity or really good. We’re going to be really good today. We’ll see. Oh, yeah. Yeah, nice ball. That’s a great shot. Yeah. Well done. Nice. All sorts of metal woods over here. Oh, yeah. That’s a strike. Yeah, good shot. Well done. Nice ball. Bobby Lock, my guy. That was a great shot. Stoked. That was exactly what I wanted to do. Did it fly there? Yeah, it took like one bounce. It landed at the back of the green. Yeah. Like I heard it before. Go in and see it. You know what I mean? I see a ball. Yeah. Oh, I see a ball. 58. Yeah. All slips down left or right there on that green. Yeah. Well played. Great shot. Nice. Great shot. Appreciate it. Thank you. What the does this putt do? It’s like not inside the hole. All right. New feeling. Two holes, two shots. Yeah, good ball. It’s a cute little shot here. 95 yards front edge. And you know, in in Northern Ireland, they’re going to offer you two numbers. Yards for your uh for your Americans and your UK and meters for your EU. It’s truly international place. All right. So, typically speaking, what do you take off this shot? Um, it’s 124 to the flag. You are downwind downhill. So I would probably play probably about 105. Take off maybe 20. Okay, cool. Let it run out the last little bit. Yeah, let’s do a 54 then. Okay. No, don’t just pull. Sit right in. Would love to get up and down here. Little bit of cush on 18. All right, this looks doable, guys. Whoa. Way above my feet. Go, go, go, go. Yeah. All right. Out. It’s coming off here. Left to right. Then at the hole, I think it’s breaking back. Right to left. Just overall pace and straight. Overall pace and straight. Yeah. If anything, I think it’s going to come in a little bit left to be honest. Maybe like a ball left that way. It come left to right a little bit at the end. More. Left to right at the end. Yeah. Okay. It’s got to go. What is it doing over there? Well done. Thanks. Hold on. That was good. One more bogey to go. One more par. Par birdie. That’d be sick. You know, the whole goal of break 90 is like bogei’s a good score. You know, love to make a par, but you know what I might say myself? I think I’m going to say myself. I don’t have a shot. Say I have to par this hole. Let’s try that. Let’s see what that does. What an awesome finishing hole. This thing takes a hard right turn. 285 to get in that bunker that we can barely see. Yeah. Okay. So, you want just want to stay left of that. There’s OB left for sure. Or is that uh Yeah, out of bounds left. But yeah, just that bunker. Just go 5 10 yards left of it. It’s the same swing. Same swing. You’ve been swinging all day. It’s in that for sure. I don’t have the swing. I don’t think it’s in it. Really? You think it’s short? I think it might be in the There’s two there. I think it might be in the middle of them the way it was going there. Love that. All right. I can see the top of the ball. Should be like 165. Yeah. Let me just double check. Look at you. Look at you, old friend. You’re doing me a kindness over here. Where would you say that pin is on the green, Amy? 165 here. So, probably about 180 there. Okay. It looks closer to the front from here. Yeah, I think that’s going to be 180. Pretty much straight into the wind. Yeah. So, we’ll take a sixiron. Yeah. Is that what you’re thinking? Is that what you were thinking? Yep. Okay. Sounds good to me. Oh, that’s pretty good. Looks good. Maybe kick right. Kick right. Kick right. I think I’m Yeah, good shot. Where is he? Ah, pin high in the green. What a goddamn relief. I heard that whisper in the mic. Damn, that was a pretty good shot. I mean, you know, talk about blueprint sess saving my life. That’s where I was at. Thanks. Thanks, Amy. Good luck. I’m I’m making par. You’re making birdie. I said it. Making birdie. All right. We We’re do. We’re do. You’re right. You’re right. You know what they say is more putts for par of the same length are hold than putts for birdie. Yeah. Which would lead psychologists to believe that players are more interested in avoiding a bogey than they are in making a birdie. So, I’m going to say this is a this is a par putt. Yeah. This is to win the open. Come on. Wow. I cannot believe we That was so close. That was a great shot. It’s good we picked that tight line. Well, I got to make a birdie putt to shoot. 87 88 89. Yeah. Yeah. If I two putt, it’s 88. Three putt, it’s 89. Yeah. I mean, we got we got a birdie putt here on 18, folks. Uh, rig 90, it always does my head and it always keeps me coming back. I love the I love the game. I love this. I love this particular video. Ever since Pebble when Gary Woodland won the US Open there, it’s been a fun ride. And last major of 2025 in the books, the Open Championship. Alan Robertson on the trophy. Who knew? Inside of a cup on the left. I wouldn’t play any further than a ball left. Really? Yeah. So I would Yeah. Between inside a cup, sort of ball left kind of thing. And you are pushing against that wind a little bit and it is uphill at the end. Yeah. Slightly. So it might turn a little more. Yeah. Sit, sit, sit, sit, sit, sit, sit. A right edge. It didn’t move that much. Yeah. Up the hill. All right. Thank you very much. Thank you. That was awesome. Thank you. guys. Enjoyed that. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. It’s been pleasure being out. I appreciate it. Thank you. Great round. Well done. Good play, dude. Good par in the end. That was a par. Yeah. I forgot. I thought that was a bogey cuz I had gone crazy in my head that I had to make that for par. No, I thought I made a bogey. Yeah, I parred it. Drip par. That’s hilarious. I lied to myself so well that I believed it. That was a great par. Well done. Really enjoyable. Thank you very much. Oh, that was a No, thank you. I literally thought I made a bogey. In today’s video, EAL takes on one of the toughest challenges in professional golf: Royal Portrush, host of the 2025 Open Championship, under tournament conditions. The gorse is in bloom and the pressure is high. Can he reach his ultimate goal of 89 or better?
Huge shout out to BERO for making today’s video possible. It’s my favorite NA brew on the planet so go check out their Double Tasty West Coast Style IPA (it’s the one I’ve been drinking lately) at https://berobrewing.com/collections/all?utm_source=RGC&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=RGC_partnership

He’s like Rick Steves meets Jeremy Clarkson with a touch of Pauly Shore. All class.
The heating fanny pack will go great with my ski gloves for spring golf in Utah.
As a Michigander, it’s not cold until you have to stop wearing shorts with your winter boots to golf…so December
Playing golf in east US, during cold, we layer in comfortable base layers that allows for movement, and we drink warm tea and coffee in our thermos.
Amy is lovely!
I love this so much. So jealous! Portrush is a dream and on the bucket list! Came down to the wire. NO SPOILERS!
If it's too cold ..you're too old.
2 videos in the same day with Amy! Wesley Bryan and EAL. She’s bloody good.
Cold weather golf is hard to get pumped for compared to a nice warm sunny round but that being said, you do get to wear more articles of clothing. Which means more layers of clothes and you get the opportunity to expand your fashion on the course! My dad always told me "look good, play good" and there is something about rocking a nice crisp pair of trousers, polo, a wonderful sweater, maybe a great vest, throw in a stylish beanie with hat hooked to the bag for later, and the hand pouch around your waist to top it off! As it gets warmer and you shed clothing, new look gets to happen on the course.
Most underrated fall/winter cold weather golf tip I’ve ever gotten — use softer balls. Easier on your hands(and you’ll probably lose them in the leaves at some point anyway so the price point helps out too)
Soft Feel ftw in winter golf
How my husky feels in August😂
Well done to you and Amy the caddy.
Nice to see you find it mid round and make another sub 90 in the breaking series.
Hey it’s Amy the caddie! Wonder where’s Mr gary
As far as playing in the cold
Don’t
Class mate
Ironically, just bought my first variety pack of Bero. It's pretty good, though I still have to go with Well Being as my personal favorite NA.
Bro, that was not even your first bunker shot of this video. Nevermind first one of the week. Keep up the great work!
Amy should be your full time caddy!!!
Amy making ANOTHER YT appearance. Just watched her caddy for Wesley Bryan @BryanBrosGolf for the Major Cut
Best Golf Series on YouTube!
Cold weather golf isn’t a test of skill … it’s a test of stubborn joy. If your glove isn’t frozen solid by the turn, did you even play in Ireland?
Nothing says serious golfer like casually borrowing NFL sideline tech to survive Portrush.
My favorite cold weather golf story has got to be when my buddies and whent out for a round on new years eve at our favorite municipal as a last hoorah before it closed for over a year for renovations. It was maybe 39F and windy and wet but it was a great time to play at our favorite place.
Nice to see Amy in this and Bryan Bros episodes. Congrats
We certainly got to see a lot of the course 😉
After the warming pouch, everything Erik holds near and dear is within that 5×5…2×2.. ok 1x1in square
From my local Sanskrit expert …. Because Sanskrit indicates verbal mood with infixes and allows pronouns to be deleted you can say that in a single word:
Karoyam.
“I might/could do this.”
Always great to watch
I play golf in Minnesota in Dec. it’s FORE’king COLD Erik!
I don’t always play in cold weather but when I do my gamgam knits my sweater.
