And then their putt is so bad, that it has the opposite effect.

What? What did you have??? Don’t leave us hanging, OP!

  3. As the highest handicapper in our group (I’ve played 5 rounds ever), they always ask me to putt first after “helping” me read the green. My misses always help them. It ain’t much, but it’s honest work.

Thanks for blowing it 15 feet past the hole, such a help

The only time I’ve ever been really mad in a scramble was in a company tournament with three co-workers when one of our regulars couldn’t make it so another guy filled in. He said he played a lot and was an okay golfer. He was not. He couldn’t even hit a putt within 30 degrees of the line to be useful in that way. He didn’t play a single usable shot all day. I still get mad thinking about it almost twenty years later.

I’ve been this person. I am this person, and I’m happy to help. Every time.

    Anybody seen the beer cart?

I’m usually the B player, sometimes C and I’ve started taking the first putt in our scrambles and it’s worked a lot better, I make several of the putts anyway and if I don’t I’m giving them a good read.

An older former golf pro relative, now RIP, would always say ‘You can take the break out of anything if you hit it hard enough.’

I played with a random once that would roll his pocket ball on the green to test the line/break. We called him out on it via some gentle heckling and he just shrugged and said “this ain’t the fuckin’ masters”.

I always get the “thank you for your service”

Pushes it two feet to the right of the hole.

“Wow, I didn’t think it would break right so much.”

The ‘bad’ golfer that owns the 1st putt in the rotation is always a legend!

Helps so much and they always have the shot at being a hero with no pressure.

I swear even having a non-golfing 4th in a work scramble shaves off 5 strokes for a decent team of 3, huge contribution.

This was me last week and I made 3 birdies in a row.

I like hitting first when I can because if I put a decent shot out there then the long or accurate hitters are free to “go for it” and I feel like I contributed even if we don’t use my ball.

Putting is currently the best part of my game so I’m definitely the high handicap player to do that with.

  16. In our group I always go third. Our forth is a scratch ringer.
