Tiger Woods has been told NOT to retire his clubs, despite his health issues, after he was seen practicing at the driving range.
The 15-time major winner is hailed as one of the all-time greats following his illustrious career that has spanned almost 30 years. However, Woods, 49, has grappled with numerous back and lower leg injuries in recent years, leading to multiple surgeries.
Despite his spectacular win at the Masters in 2019, marking a potential resurgence, the iconic golfer hasn’t been able to clinch another major since. Woods had aspirations for a glorious comeback at Augusta this April, but his plans were thwarted due to an Achilles tear before the event.
Woods has been out of the game since undergoing surgery in March. Yet, despite his struggles to remain fit, Ryder Cup legend Sam Torrance insists it would be premature for Woods to retire.
Speaking exclusively to Mirror US, courtesy of Lottoland, when quizzed on whether Woods should quit the sport, Torrance responded: “Absolutely not. There’s one thing I’ve learned over the years with Tiger Woods, never say never.
“I believe he is just the most extraordinary golfer we’ve ever had. Nicklaus’ record is better, he was my hero, but Tiger Woods brought a different level of golf to the world. He is capable of anything.”

Torrance admitted he is not up to speed on Woods’ current physical state, although he has witnessed him practicing at the driving range. He speculated about the possibility of Woods taking on a significant role at the Ryder Cup in September, despite Woods previously turning down the offer last year.
“I don’t know about his fitness or his health, how good it is, but I still see him out on the range hitting balls,” Torrance said. “And I’d love to see him come back. Who knows, maybe he’ll be captaining the Ryder Cup if Bradley takes it. Who knows, if Bradley plays.”

While Woods won’t be teeing off at Portrush for the Open Championship next week, he didn’t hesitate to offer advice to top contenders Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler on what it would take to triumph at the major.
“They have to have the ability to control the ball,” Woods said. “It’s just amazing what they call a wee breeze, right? You just have to hit different shots on golf courses… because they are on seaside. Depends on the tide, it changes the wind. And it’s amazing what that little change can do.”
