Diogo Jota’s wife and family were joined by Liverpool players for the funeral of the forward and his brother, Andre Silva, in Portugal following their deaths in a car crash in Spain.

The father-of-three, who married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso 11 days before the accident, died alongside his brother after a Lamborghini they were travelling in burst into flames following a suspected tyre blowout in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The coffins of Jota and Silva were carried into Igreja Matriz de Gondomar church in the town of Gondomar near Porto on Saturday morning, followed by mourners.

A church bell tolled and crowds applauded as the brothers’ coffins were carried into the church, followed by mourners, some with their arms around each other.

Others seen arriving at the church included Reds head coach Arne Slot, captain Virgil van Dijk and team-mates including Andy Robertson, Conor Bradley, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, Darwin Nunez and Joe Gomez.

  1. Only through repentance and faith in Christ can anyone be saved. No religious activity will be sufficient, only true faith in Jesus Christ alone.

  2. Rest in Peace Diogo 😢 Wheather ur Portugise, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, English, Spanish, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man United, Man City it doesn't matter where ur from or who you support a Loss like this at such a young age is hard to take. May God guide you and your brother on your new journey 🙏 😢 REST IN PEACE 🙏

  3. I wasn't planning to comment, but I have to because there are some truly disgraceful comments here, as expected. So hateful people, criticizing Cristiano and Salah for not attending—this is for you: you are a disgrace! First, it was discussed earlier, and Cristiano was said to have not attended because wherever he goes, the media circus follows, and the Jota family didn't want that. Also, just because you were a teammate and captain doesn't mean you were a close friend, so both Cristiano and Salah—because Salah was also not there—didn't have to attend, period. And how do you know the family wanted them there? What's more, it was very unexpected, and sorry, but people have their own families, lives, and plans. Not everybody can change those plans so quickly. If you want to spread your toxic hate, then better stay silent and not comment at all!

  6. wow the trolls here with their manufactured hatred towards Cristiano are something else. moderation, hello!

  7. I am a Chelsea fan and have been in disbelief since I heard the news! I have been a fan of him since I saw him in the Premier League with Wolves. So sad for the family to lose two of their sons in an instance. Such a shame but it great to see so many people showing their respect. It shows he was a not only a great player but a great human being! RIP to both!

  8. @stanley The Jota family didn't want a media circus, and the media always goes crazy for CR, so he didn't for the respect of the family to not overshadow the funeral. And just because he was captain doesn't mean he was best friends with Jota. The family decided, and they didn't want it for whatever reason. stop writing the same comment, troll.

Now Imagine the fathers, mothers and children being murdered in Palestine.

  12. We want justice. The real truth and cctv footage must come out. Seems mysterious. They were killed or targeted on that road. A lot of proof has gone missing out of the car and highway. His phone was seen then gone in between two time gaps. His lfc phone case was on it. YNWA. Our no20.
