Victor Perez offers a course-specific breakdown of the Genesis Scottish Open layout, highlighting the key stretches where players must capitalize. His success came from taking advantage of the downwind holes early and birdieing the scorable stretch from 13 to 16. It’s a smart, studied approach that reflects his experience and local knowledge.

Victor, 64 rounds off your first round here at the Genesis Scottish Open. Must be pleased with that start. Yeah, very happy. I think uh I probably had a little bit more practice um Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday than I usually do because um last year I was fortunate to play a little bit better on the PGA Tour and come back to the UK two weeks early and have time to familiarize myself with, you know, speed of the greens, bounce, the rough flyers, like everything that comes with Lynx Golf. Um which I wasn’t able to do. I just came straight from John Deere on on the charter flight. I got in Monday, so was able to get a decent amount of work in. Um, especially on the greens. I mean, that’s definitely the biggest adjustment, just getting used to cut the speed of the greens. You kind of committing to hitting them maybe a little bit harder than we’re used to. Um, but yeah, I was able to do that quite well today. Hard work paid off though and the research for birdies in the last five holes. Yeah, like I was, you know, we were just saying earlier, I think there’s definitely two stretches in this course. I think the first five is a stretch. I mean, having been players so much, you know, the first five is the stretch you kind of want to try to get off to a good start, especially with the west wind where you get the first and the third down win. Um, and then obviously, you know, there’s a stretch towards the back 13, 14, 15, 16 with again some chances. Um, so I was able to do that, which is kind of what you have to do on this course. It’s it’s really difficult to get birdies on some of the hard holes because the greens are firmer and, you know, the wind and you’re not really sure where it’s coming from. So, yeah, I was really happy with with the end. Obviously, this is kind of like home away from home for you as well. You always feel very comfortable around here and of course a top 10 here last year. Yeah, I played well on this course. I think course knowledge, you know, played well. Uh Dan Hillings, you know, was my first win in 2019. I’ve always kind of enjoyed, you know, keeping the ball down and, you know, long putts from off the green. I think it may play in my hand a little bit better with with what I’m good at. So, yeah, enjoyed a very good first day, but uh a lot of golf left. Good luck tomorrow. Cheers.
