now has an embarrassment of
riches when it comes to the wide
receiver room with George Pickens and CeeDee lamb. Now Dak
Prescott he’s got to get
healthy. He’s waiting for the official word. So he used a word
there. Exciting. And now my
question is are we prepared to use the word exciting when we
address the Dallas Cowboys?
Manti are you prepared for this? I’m prepared for it. I think it
doesn’t. There’s not a year that
we go into the NFL football season, when the Cowboys do not
have the word exciting attached
to them. That’s been what it’s since the 80s and 90s the word
excitement and cowboys have been
synonyms with each other. I think I like to throw a little
curve and say that it’s about
time that we take the word exciting away from him, and the
whole reason why I think we
should take it away from him is back in May, our fellow brother,
Kyle Brandt, went on a rant
about how they reminded him of Tupperware, and he started
talking about how he really,
literally feels nothing when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys. And
then a few days later, they go
and make one of the most explosive trades in all of NFL
offseason history and signing
George Pickens. So I would just want to remove the word exciting
with the Dallas Cowboys, because
it seems like whenever somebody says something on this show
regarding the Dallas Cowboys,
something dramatic happens where we’re like, you know what? How
about them Cowboys, right? KB so
that’s where I’m kind of going with this situation is exciting,
is always with the Cowboys going
into the season, I think maybe we should throw a little curve
and take it out. Okay. No. For
real. That Pickens trade was a bolt of lightning in the middle
of a big old empty Texas field
in which nothing was happening. But I do have to say, you know
what’s really exciting right
now? Trying to understand one word that Dak Prescott said in
that clip that I just had. I
understand that it’s early July and we’re in the doldrums of the
offseason and everyone’s kind of
nailing it. I can’t understand anything he’s saying in that
clip, and I can’t read well
enough to understand the subtitles. Dak Prescott, one of
the most well-spoken players in
this league, we had to subtitle him because he’s coming from
underwater on a Fisher-Price
recorder. Let’s rerack that. And I defy anybody to understand
anything he’s saying here. As I
said, having having dealt with the trades before when I’ve been
Amari Cooper, Brandin Cooks I
mean you turn on that guy’s tape. He’s getting separation.
He’s got separation even when
he’s not getting the ball at times. And when he doesn’t have
separation, he’s still making
the catches. It’s not going to be hard for me. It’s about
getting that ball near that guy
and let him go beat George Pickens. I heard separation a
few times. I heard Texas, we got
six different sponsors behind Dak Prescott. There’s always a
lot of money around him. Let’s
go to Radio Shack next time we get a microphone. It’s a big
season for the Cowboys. Let’s do
a little better Kyle I understand that. Yes we
appreciate the sponsors Jamie.
We can’t get some of that Tom thumb money or Albertsons or Pro
Camp or Procter and Gamble. Look
at all of them. He has a hat with a sponsor, a shirt with a
camp. We can’t get a microphone
on him. John Machado from The Athletic I love your work. I
can’t understand what Dak
saying. Kyle, I think you’re showing your hand a little bit
because while we understand that
your career and your sports TV time is prolific and in depth,
clearly you haven’t worked at
such low level local television that you are scrambling when a
player shows up at his own
charity event and you know, that might be your one opportunity
for the summer. I have a memory
of a hair plug event that I had to get to toot sweet in Boston
because a Patriots player was
showing up for it, and I’m like, get the camera, get the mic. He
might talk about Tom Brady like,
this is what you have to do. So I’m not going to judge that guy
for not having a microphone.
Thank you for giving us a player to talk about in July. And let
me remind you, a quarterback in
the NFC East, I’m not taking you down John Machado from The
Athletic. We appreciate the Dak
Prescott sound subtitle. Anything you can tell John
Machado a really good writer.
The recording unbelievably bad if that soundbite is indicative
of the Cowboys season. They’re
going five and 12 and everybody is getting fired. I hope it
doesn’t go that way. That’s
awful. Sounds like he’s underwater. Exactly. Okay, so
now here comes here comes the
assignment that we were all scrambling for, but apparently
not Kyle Brandt because he’s
very prepared this morning, just as those guys were to get the
Dak Prescott sound at that
event. We got our whiteboards okay. Because when in doubt get
the whiteboard out the marker.
But never use the eraser because you have to stick by your
answers. Here we go. The
assignment that Kyle Brandt gave us from cross country top five
most interesting people, not
just in Dallas, because apparently that’s not the word
that we’re using for that team.
So we have to broaden the scope to the division. Top five most
interesting people in the NFC
East Kyle feels like you’re prepared. So should I go with
you first? Yes I can go first.
Go. Yeah. You want me to go first? Please take your time.
You can even copy my answers if
you want to. All right. Most interesting people anybody the
GM coaches players in the NFC
East I’m going to start I’m going to start with the name
that everybody knows. And you
won’t believe I only have him at five. I have Saquon Barkley at
number five. You know what’s
interesting about Saquon Barkley. He’s really trying to
defy history right now. And if
you look at the 2000 yard rushers the following season,
the most anybody has had is
Barry Sanders. And almost a 6 to 700 yard drop off. It happens.
Everybody is at the church of
Saquon. He’s one of the most gifted runners ever. One of the
best seasons ever. Everything
about NFL history says he’s not going to be nearly as productive
as he was this year. That’s just
a fact. Maybe he defies it. I think that’s fascinating to
watch. Number four. See, this is
why this list is fun. I go from Saquon to Adam Peters. This is
the general manager of the
Washington Commanders, a guy who is relatively new, who has been
allowed experience but never
really been a GM before. He’s got some things on his plate.
Now we have this Terry McLaurin
situation that is this fly in the ointment of this wonderful
time. Since Jayden Daniels has
shown up, I also think it’s interesting that Adam Peters has
a background with San Francisco,
who had maybe a similar situation with Deebo Samuel.
They ended up paying him a lot
of money. It ended up not being the best investment, and now he
is actually back in Washington.
So there’s all kinds of symmetry. Watch Adam Peters,
especially over the next month.
Number three Jaxson Dart, rookie quarterback New York Giants.
What are we going to see this
guy. What are we going to see him. Where is he on the depth
chart. He’s got Russ. He’s got
Jameis. At what point does Jaxson Dart start I was thinking
we’re going to talk a little bit
about the Falcons this year this episode because Kirk Cousins is
on the Netflix show. And we had
Michael Penix just sitting there and sitting there. And cousins
wasn’t playing well and the
Falcons were losing. They finally just finally pulled him
late in the season. Did they do
the same with dart or is it one of the veterans all the way?
Number two is very simple I have
this is hard to do. Jayden Daniels number two, I’ve never
seen a rookie season like that
from any quarterback. And I was very young when Marino was
there, and there’s been some
other guys who have been great, never so effortless. Can he
really run that back? I saw Cam
Newton was talking recently, another guy who had a prolific
rookie season about Robert
Griffin the third, and how he was amazing for the same
franchise as a rookie and ended
up getting injured. I think RG3 is playing style has a lot to do
with that and how Mike Shanahan
used him and got him injured. I don’t think Jayden Daniels is
that kind of realm, but I’d love
to see. What do you do for an encore? Is there a drop off, or
is that just the beginning of
that experience? And number one, the most interesting person I
have in the NFC East, it’s hard
to fit. His name is name is Brian Schottenheimer, the head
coach of the Dallas Cowboys. We
were just talking about earlier. There’s all this talk about a
breath of fresh air in Dallas.
This is a guy who has been around for years, nay, decades.
I was just watching the 2010
divisional game between the Jets and the Patriots. That can’t
wait. Bart Scott game Brian
Schottenheimer was the offensive coordinator for Rex Ryan there.
That was 15 years ago. He has
been around. He has finally been given his shot and he’s got a
backwards visor and they’re
playing ping pong and they’re having team dinners, and
everybody seems to really like
it. Will they really like it in December and January? I’m Team
Schottenheimer. I like the vibe
that he’s bringing. But the Dallas Cowboys coach, brand new
at this stage of his life, a
first time head coach. Very interesting. That is my list
guys, Saquon, Adam Peters,
Jaxson Dart, Jayden Daniels and number one Brian Schottenheimer.
What do you guys see? This is
when you know that KB was prepared for this I know he got.
Coaches GM’s guards, players and
all of that stuff. I got straight players guys okay okay.
Number five I have Frankie Luvu.
Frankie Luvu is one of the most interesting players to me. He’s
and on a team full of alpha
males like Bobby Wagner, Jayden Daniels, Frankie Luvu. Hold on,
let me move this down a little
bit. Frankie Luvu is a guy that leads that pregame huddle. He’s
a guy that does a that’s he’s
one of the most interesting guys for me. Also jumping over the
top of centers trying to do the
tush push. Second is Jordan Mailata. We talked about being
miked up. Who would you want to
have mic’d up yesterday? I don’t know if you heard about heard
the mic’d up thing from Jordan
Mailata where he starts quoting Bane. It’s probably one of the
most terrorizing things that
you’ll ever hear, especially with that Australian accent that
he has. He’s very interesting to
me. Number three, Micah Parsons, Micah Parsons not only because
of his dominance on the football
field, but now that Micah Parsons, now that Micah Parsons
has a podcast, he’s always
giving us some things to talk about. So he’s definitely
somebody that we like to follow
and somebody that we consider very interesting. Number two,
kind of like KB, said Jaxson
Dart. And the reason why I like Jaxson Dart was I was watching
Jon Gruden’s little show when he
was asking Jaxson Dart, hey, what is your snap count? And he
claps and he’s like, what if
it’s on two? He’s like, all right, I clap twice, twice. He’s
one of the most interesting guys
that that I think going into this NFL season. And then also
when they asked him at his
Post-draft interview, they said, what’s your favorite song? You
know what he said? Kodak Black
Skrilla. So from somebody to be from Utah to go to USC, then to
Ole Miss, and for his favorite
song to be Kodak, Kodak Black Skrilla very interesting. Now,
number one, I think it’s number
one, not only not only in the NFC East, but in the whole NFL.
Come on guys it’s Jameis
Winston. Yeah what are we doing. Like what are we doing. Like
this guy is taking home the
trophy. He got first place on my list. And so here’s my list of
the five most interesting people
which me and Jamie just came up with. Yep. Two minutes ago I
went more Kyle’s direction. You
went authentically interesting. Like in their life. I think Kyle
and I went more with their
making life interesting right now before their team or for the
division. So I see what you’re
putting down. Kyle and I have some similarities here. And I,
to begin with, shoddy with Brian
Schottenheimer. The authentic backwards visor is fascinating
to me because he also hired Matt
Eberflus after he was unceremoniously let go from the
Chicago Bears. Now Eberflus is
going to show up with his Jordans. Isn’t he like a sneaker
guy on the sideline? I think
people sometimes flirt with the I’m a sneaker person, but it’s
not genuine. It’s not authentic.
And like that might be true for Eberflus, but sometimes it just
doesn’t track the backwards
visor. It could not track, but it’s working for shoddy, and I
think he’s committed to it. And
I like it. And I like his vibe. And I still am obsessed with the
fact that he made people move
spots around in the locker room. And I want to know who’s sitting
next to who and who doesn’t like
it. All right. That’s my number five number for this. I’m very
excited about this one. I’m
going to put Zach be Zach born. Because the Eagles defense in
and of itself has had some
changes. Running it back on a Super Bowl win is interesting in
and of itself. But when I type
in Zach, be on the good old Google search machine, so many
other people show up before Zach
Bond, and I think that’s unfair. As a finalist for the NFL
Defensive Player of the year,
Zach Braff, Zach Brown, the country singer, there’s a Zak
Bagans haunted museum in Las
Vegas, Zack Beauchamp, who I think is a baseball or a hockey
player or Beauchamp. But Zach
Bond to me is one of the most fascinating and interesting
players in the NFC East. Also,
can he run it back? And who is this Zach Bond would be the next
question that I have. So he’s at
my number four. Number three George Pickens. Come on guys.
That should be on the list.
That’s a good one. That should forget what this guy did not
only at Pittsburgh but he was at
Georgia. It was messy at times. I mean, there were times where
he was doing things on kickoffs.
And Kirby Smart was like, I forgot. What are you doing? Come
on, man. And then he goes, Mike
Tomlin deals him out of Pittsburgh. So I’m putting
George Pickens on my list. Kliff
Kingsbury Kyle Kingsbury. What what did you do last year with
that quarterback. And now you
have Deebo Samuel and that wide receiver room. What’s this
offense going to look like this
to me. Very intriguing interesting and fascinating. And
also just redefining what the
Kliff Kingsbury experience in the NFL is for me. And then
number two, I also have Jaxson
Dart, but mostly from like the A-Rod. Derek Jeter, Eli Manning,
like you are a star in the New
York market. You are a handsome young man who is recently
entering the New York City area.
Like, what tabloid is going to catch you doing whatever like I
am, and I hope it’s nothing. But
if it. But if it does, like, what is this? Are you are you on
Broadway? Are you at a Knicks
game? This like, the entire experience, he’s on TikTok.
Like, do the Giants like that?
How does he tether to Brian Daboll’s success? This is my
list and I’m sticking to it. I
like that list. Thank you. That’s a good list I blew it.
Not having Pickens. Pickens
should be way, way up. I didn’t even have my top. I thought I
was like going to be the
teacher’s pet name and all that type of stuff. Like I’m Schrager
I should have had should have
had Pickens on my list. I messed it up. Sorry I don’t think I’ve
ever usurped Kyle in a top five
list. And now I will like just told me my ear not to
panic, and I’m not going to
panic because I get to play Whiteboard Wednesday today.
Okay? Usually I just tee up the
questions and I and I provide emotional support. But no,
there’s only three of us, so I
get to play. All right. Up first. So there’s no panic here.
Only preparation up first. Did
you guys see the off season glow up. Posted by the Arizona
Cardinals. Now this is a glow
up. Don’t be distracted by the sleeve. What you are seeing on
the left side is Marvin Harrison
Jr before his rookie season. Then on the right side you’re
seeing like an extra inch and a
half on the bicep and muscle everywhere for Marvin Harrison
Jr. Put on some serious muscle
okay. That’s called a glow up. He also switched t shirts
underneath and he looks great
Marvin Marvin Harrison Jr looking for a second season
jump. Here’s our first
whiteboard question. The player that you think is going to have
a glow up Manti this season is
see when you think of the term glow up you throw up appearance.
For me I went football related
as far as performance. So the player that I have going into
this year that I think is going
to have a glow up is Coleridge Bernard Strong, the fourth aka
CJ, the CJ oh nice. Yes CJ. CJ
Stroud. Stroud. Anyway, the reason why I think that he’s
going to have a glow up this
whole name like threw me off. I was like, wait, what’s his name?
I know him as CJ Stroud, not
this. I try to get creative and it screwed my whole take anyway.
Yeah, the reason why this is
going to have a glow up is I think a lot of us compare him to
his rookie year when he won the
offensive. Thank you Jamie I’m trying to focus. The offensive
rookie player of the year,
followed up by a not so impressive second season. Some
called consider a sophomore
slump, but I looked at his ranking. He was 17th. He was a
17th ranked quarterback overall.
That’s not too bad. That’s middle of the pack. And he was
sacked 52 times. Like tell me
somebody who would get sacked 52 times and would would, would
have any type of success. Like
that’s who I’m looking at as having a glow up. Would you put
Jamie Stroud wrote strong. Yeah.
Oh for sure, I said, I’m literally not panicking. Here
you are. I can’t even spell.
Okay, I freaking have the name right here. I anyway, I need a
glow up, okay? I need a glow up
top on this show. You just had a glow up at the beginning of that
segment. You weren’t speaking
English, and at the end you were so incredible. Dak Prescott in
the beginning of our stuff. And
now I’m now I’m making sense. Jeez okay you got it. All right.
You got there. We got there.
It’s Coleridge. That’s why you said CJ okay. Yeah. You know who
doesn’t have 19 problems with
the Z on it anymore is Deebo Samuel. This is his Twitter
handle okay. Deebo Samuel senior
mind you is a Washington Commanders player. Now I am not
here for any of the vitriol that
was coming out about this dude’s body when he was leaving San
Francisco because allegedly, if
you ask his coaches, he’s putting the work. There was a
quote floating around out there
from Dan Quinn from this offseason that was like, when
this guy runs, you feel it in
the ground. That is power in his lower body. It’s not because,
oh, he’s heavy, oh, he’s gained
weight. He’s going to give everybody else in the NFL
problems a 20th one. If you
don’t deal with him because they already had one wide receiver
Terry McLaurin. Now they have
Deebo Samuel. And I think that’s an issue for everybody else. So
I think it’s Deebo Samuel and
he’s going to quiet a lot of people who are making fun of
him, which I didn’t like. No
body shaming. You’re taking Deebo and fantasy this year
Jamie. You’re going to draft
Deebo Samuel because I’d probably panic and do it. Well,
speaking of panic, I’m going to
try to copy Manti here, and I’m going to go with my favorite
bears quarterback, Caleb
Winston. No. What’s this last Williams. All right. Hold on.
Thank you brother. We’ve all
done it dude. We’ve all done it. Thank you. Caleb. Caleb. First
name only. Caleb I think this is
the year. It’s year two. Let’s go. Personal story. I ran into
Caleb a couple weeks ago, and I
had a very, very, very nice conversation. Nothing long, but
just might it might take away
from how does he come off in a social setting. Very, very
solid, very confident, very
calm. Looks you right in the eye. I’m making that sort of
entry level conversation about,
oh, I’m from the north suburbs of Chicago, where you live and
work, you know, where do you
like to go out and eat? What are the restaurants? He’s like, no,
I don’t go out. I don’t I don’t
go out to eat. I don’t do anything. I’m always home. I’m
like, Caleb, I like that about
you, dude. He told me that Dune two is his favorite movie. There
are certain people that have
looked at him as the title character in that movie, as this
messiah for the bears. He just
laughs that off. He comes off very solid, very likable. Is
that going to help him on third
and 12 against the Vikings? Of course not. But I’ll tell you
this he ended his rookie year by
doing what bears quarterbacks do not do, which is going to
Lambeau Field and winning the
game. That was a really big deal. Nobody really cared about
at the end of the season because
the bears were irrelevant. They lost ten games in a row. Bears
fans did. Packers fans did. The
bears don’t go to that building and win. He is currently
undefeated as a bears
quarterback in Lambeau Field, and I know he’s looking to go
two zero next year. I think
Caleb has a year. All right. I Crosby is fired up about what
his new head coach, Pete
Carroll, is bringing to the team, telling ESPN, quote, it’s
not fake energy. It’s not just
him, it’s the assistant coaches. It’s the whole building. It just
feels different. Pete creates
that culture where everyone knows it’s hard. You’re going to
work your tail off, but you’ve
you’ve got a whole group and an organization of people that all
got to be on the same wavelength
and go in the same direction. That’s one of the hardest things
you could do. There you go. That
says a lot. It’s not just energy, it’s all the things
coming from his head coach and
coming from Max Crosby, who I feel like is just built on hard
work, he’s into it. Here’s a
question on first down. Will Pete Carroll’s culture help
bring the Raiders back to
excellence? Wow. That’s a that’s a very specific word for the
Raiders. But Manti, what do you
think? Oh heck yeah. Oh heck yeah. I think he’s going to
bring them back to excellence.
And I think in totality the AFC West should be renamed. It
should be named the Thanos
Division because all four head coaches have played in the Super
Bowl. It’s the only division
where all four head coaches have coached in the Super Bowl. Now,
three out of the four won the
Super Bowl. But they’re like the Thanos. They have all the rings
like Pete Carroll, Jim Harbaugh,
college national championships. You have Andy Reid and Sean
Payton who have Super Bowl,
Super Bowl wins like this division. I think they all met
together and said, you know
what? We’re trying to change everything not only for our
franchise, but for this entire
division. Let’s go out and hire some coaches that know how to
win. And so I’m really excited
about the AFC West, and I’m especially excited about the LA,
the LA, the Las Vegas Raiders. I
got to get it together. You got it. So I’m so excited about them
and just how they’re going to
look under somebody like Pete Carroll. You see him wrestling
his guys in the stretch lines.
You see the energy. You see the enthusiasm. That is something
that you need. And that is
something when you bring it around. A guy like Max Crosby,
who’s been that energy for them
for so long, it’s so refreshing to somebody like him, like, man,
I got a head coach. That
exuberance, that type of energy that I’m trying to instill into
this team for so many years now.
I got it in the head guy. So I definitely think that, you know,
this this LA Raiders team under
Pete Carroll is going to Las Vegas. Go Kyle. Las Vegas
Raiders team is going to look
good. Yes. Yeah they’re going to have tough time against the San
Diego Chargers though. Listen
here’s the deal I feeling what Max Crosby is saying here. And
you can you can really feel it
in his mind and his words that look at what he’s been through
okay. He comes out of this small
school. He gets into the league and the Raiders coaches you know
he’s Jon Gruden was there. That
ends in infamy. Josh McDaniels was terrible. It didn’t work out
at all Antonio Pierce they tried
something. It really didn’t work. And now you have an adult
in the room the culture yes I
don’t know how many games Pete Carroll is going to win. I know
that the Raiders are going to be
a good professional product, and I know that that’s a low bar.
But often they’re not. Often
they’re not. So they have a guy who knows how to put a product
on the field. They have a
quarterback in Geno who knows how to put an offense on the
field, like the Raiders are
going to be at the very, very worst respectable this year.
They’re not going to embarrass
themselves. They’re not going to get blown out. I don’t see this
team going five and 12 or
something like that. It’s just the problem of like, we all like
the Raiders. It’s a good story.
We all like the Chiefs, we all like the Chargers. We’re all
excited about the Broncos. It’s
a tough time. If you take these Raiders and you want to drop
them into the I don’t know let’s
say the NFC South or the AFC South. Different conversation.
But I like the fact that the
Raiders are going to matter in their own way this year. Are
they going to matter in
December? I’m not ready to say that yet. It’s a brand new deal
there. And there’s a lot of new
pieces. And I wish the Raiders would be great. I think they’ll
be respectable and I hope that
that’s enough. Well, I love what you said about him being an
adult, right? Pete Carroll is
definitely an adult. And if we take it the age of 18 as an
adult, he may be an adult four
times. So we got a lot of adulthood. Yeah you’re right.
Raiders organization here. And
so here let me give you a few reasons why everybody should be
excited about the Vegas Raiders
this year. When you look at Ashton Jeanty coming out of
college and I did NCAA football
all year last year, and I was championing this guy before
people really understood his
name. And so he actually got compared to a Hall of Famer in a
Barry Sanders. And the only
other current running back that’s ever been remotely
uttered in the sentence was
Barry Sanders is somebody we know by the Saquon Barkley. And
we know how great of a player he
is. You got Brock Bowers who’s coming in who broke every single
record known to mankind in the
NFL. Right. And especially every tight end record as a rookie I
mean he broke he broke a record
that’s held for 63 years by Mike Ditka. And then he also led led
Malik Nabers. He led him in
receiving and he broke Puka Nacua record. And don’t forget
about a guy name of Jack Besh.
Remember his name. He’s coming in out of you. And I compare
this guy personally already. I’m
all his trajectory is looking like he could be what a Cooper
Kupp was to the Rams to the
gas Raiders. And so I think that’s a special guy. And then
Thornhill he can top the head
off the six five running A43. There’s a lot to be excited
about over there with Vegas. If
you’re a Raiders fan I know I’ll be cheering them on. It’s a good
point. But as Kyle mentioned,
the soup of the AFC West is just mentioned yesterday, the hit
Netflix series quarterback
returned for a second season. You got Goff, Burrow and
Cousins. We learned early on in
the series that cousins felt misled after the Atlanta Falcons
decided to draft Michael Penix
Jr with the eighth overall pick. What felt like five minutes
after they signed cousins to a
massive free agency deal. It was a four year, $180 million
contract, and he was drafted the
next month. So here’s the question. After we see what Kirk
had to say about this, I wasn’t
expecting us to take a quarterback so high. I felt
misled. If I had had that
information on free agency, I think it would have affected my
decision. He had no reason to
leave Minnesota, he says, with how much he loved it there. And
he knew both teams were going to
draft a quarterback high. He’s implying maybe he would have
decided differently. So now we
have this we know this approach from cousins, but we also know
that he is the backup. Now to
Michael Penix Jr. Do you guys still see Kirk Cousins as a QB
one in the rest of the NFL? No I
don’t I don’t see Kirk Cousins as a QB one Jamie. And the whole
reason is when you when you in
five weeks throw one touchdown and nine interceptions. I don’t
care who you are Kirk Cousins
whoever that is not the type of production that you would expect
out of a QB one, and that’s the
type of performance that you would expect a change. Hence
what that line of Falcons did.
So I do think that based on his performance and this this is the
thing about when I watched Kirk
Cousins last year and I don’t know, I played against Kirk
Cousins when I was in the NFL
and I didn’t see this until last year. He had a tendency to
really stare down his receiver
and only one receiver. That was something that was very, very
clear to me when I watched Kirk
Cousins play. Right. When he gets the ball, usually
quarterbacks would look in the
middle of the field to see where the safeties are and determine
based on where that is, what
receiver I’m going to go to. Kirk would get the ball and
immediately stare. Now for a
defensive player, if I know that that is your tendency, I’m going
to just put I don’t care where
what the coverage is, wherever you’re looking at initially,
that’s where I’m going to go and
throw the ball. And a lot of his interceptions, especially in the
second half of the season,
happened because guys were just breaking on his first initial
look. And so based on those
different things, guys, I don’t think Kirk Cousins is in the
shape physically and just his
ability to get the ball out to be a QB1 in this league. Yeah,
I’m not sure if we’ll see him as
a QB one this year, but I will say this about him. He’s
efficient. You know, he’s been
somebody that teams can count on to come in and plug and play. I
would expect a potential trade
this upcoming season as long as as long as Phoenix is able to
stay healthy and show that he
can continue to progress and elevate his game. But Kirk
Cousins get the ball out. He’s
efficient, he’s always on time. He’s a locker room guy. I think
the players gravitate towards
him. You know, he’s been one of those focal points in the locker
room. So I should be one as
designed versus you have to. And I think if a team needs somebody
to come in and play he can do i.
Well, listen, I think Manti is right in the sense that with all
the drama that happened and the
rug was pulled out underneath him and they drafted Penix,
cousins was still given so many
opportunities to go out there. He started after recovering his
Achilles. He did not play for 2
or 3 games and got yanked. He was out there for months last
year. He did not play well. He
did not play up to his standards. He did not play up to
anybody’s standards. And
eventually they pulled him and they should have pulled him. So
if injustice wasn’t up to and
including the fact that they never gave him a chance, they
gave him a chance. But
understand this. If the Falcons had their druthers, Kirk Cousins
would never play another down
for them. They don’t want that to happen. They want Michael
Penix to blow up and become a
star. And Kirk Cousins is an afterthought. And we never talk
about him on the show again in a
Falcons uniform. That’s how this thing is supposed to go. If Kirk
Cousins is playing for the
Falcons this year or next year, something went wrong. Penix
either doesn’t have it or gets
hurt. We don’t want to see Kirk Cousins on the Falcons anymore.
Nobody does unless you’re Kirk
Cousins. So maybe there is some sort of trade. Maybe there’s
another destination I don’t
know. He has a massive contract. He has his whole family set up
there in Atlanta. It feels like
this may be the last stop. I know there was talk about well,
he’s going to go to Cleveland.
He’s going to go to Pittsburgh. I don’t think so. Do yourself a
favor and watch this Netflix
show and watch the family roots and the connection. I’m going to
say, snark aside, I find myself
very charmed by watching the cousins kids, his wife Julie in
the stands, explaining football
to the little kid is adorable. It is relatable. It’s very funny
how she does it. I just don’t
see them saying, you know what, let’s pack up again so we can
have a shot at starting
somewhere else. Where, let’s be honest, they’re going to replace
us immediately there too. I
think this feels like the last stop. And if the Falcons have
their choice, he will not play
for them anymore. He’ll sit on the bench and earn his money.
It’s a good point, Kyle, but I
have to ask you this because the more if he brings up the quote
about what it would, what it
could have been in Minnesota and how he would have handled it
differently had he had all the
information heading into free agency. I couldn’t help myself
yesterday about thinking that if
Kirk Cousins had stayed and they had still drafted J.J. McCarthy,
the way the Vikings always
panned out, do you think the Vikings still would have had
this like flash in the pan? 14
wins Sam Darnold season with cousins the way that they did.
Like how do you see this thing
would have panned out because. Or could it have become kind of
an awkward Rodgers thing where
cousins could have kept being effective. And then J.J.
McCarthy was just pushing him
out. So I think looking back, his rose colored glasses
sometimes. But how do you think
that would have gone if cousins had stayed? I don’t think it
would have gone that well. I
don’t think he was himself. I think he would really, really,
really fought his way through
the Achilles recovery. I also think he was injured in the
middle of the season last year
for the Falcons. But the bigger picture of it into the minutia
of it is that the Vikings didn’t
want to offer him a long term deal, and that’s why he ended up
leaving, because the Falcons are
like, we’ll give you 180 million bucks. He’s like by they he and
his whole family like we never
want to leave Minnesota. We didn’t want to go to Atlanta. We
wanted to stay in Minnesota.
They weren’t interested in a long term future. They were
ready to move on. So it’s fun to
think about cousins throwing touchdowns to Jefferson and
Addison last year. I don’t think
it would have happened, and I’m not sure when we’re going to see
him again. You know you know
Jamie like he’s arguably my favorite player in the NFL. But
I’m not sure when we’re going to
see him start a game again. That’s that’s sad to think for
cousins because it was really
fun to watch for a long time. But obviously the teams have
made decisions about their
future at that position. Lastly fun to watch for a long time.
But obviously the teams have
made decisions about their future at that position. Lastly
third down in three and out.
NFL.com just published why does this make me laugh so much? The
top ten NFL triplets by college
affiliation. Lots of great players here. You got Oklahoma
edging out Georgia and Alabama
for the number one ranking. I guess this is my point. Before
we get into my question, is this
a common thing people do with colleges? Do we just like, sit
around a belly up to a bar and
say, let’s go around and say our top three favorite college
players from Notre Dame? Is that
is this something that guys do? It’s the first time I saw this.
Actually, I’ve never heard of
this. Kyle. It’s the triplets conversation. Common. Yeah, I
mean, it’s I’m looking at this
full screen and I’m really liking it. And I usually hate
full screens that have 300 names
on them because you get lost. But I’m like, no, no, no, no,
no. I was transfixed by that
thing. So yes, I do really like it. It’s a good combo. We’re
going to look at it again. There
we go. Now that we’re past it. Yes. So obviously this is all
time. And the fact that Baker
edges out the Oklahoma quarterback conversation makes
sense. But like where do you put
Jalen Hurts between Alabama and Oklahoma thing Georgia Ohio
State it’s very common. Go to
the next one. Just so we understand the one through five
and then the six through ten.
This is all on NFL.com triplets. And there’s cousins name again
at number ten with Michigan
State okay. Now that we’ve ingested this properly Manti
your favorite NFL triplet of all
time. You know KB said this yesterday Jamie the devil’s in
the details and in our question.
Ours is all time I think their list is currently playing okay
but our list is all time. So
obviously I would love to go. Notre Dame and Notre Dame would
be a layup all time. But I
decided to get a little creative and I picked the Pittsburgh
Panthers. Dan Marino, LeSean
McCoy and Larry Fitz. It’s over. It’s over guys okay like what.
How are you going? How are you
going to defend Dan Marino. Like look at the 13. Like the guy was
able to throw the ball make all
the throws Larry Fitz on the other end of that Jamie catching
a whole bunch of touchdowns. And
then you got shady McCoy just torturing you. Whether it’s a
run, a screen, a Texas route
which is out that triplet right there, there are a lot. There
will be a lot of victories. KB
in my mind, if I had that triplet of Dan Marino, Leshawn
McCoy and Larry Fitz, I’m proud
of you. Yeah. I mean, geez, you could do Curtis Martin too. I
mean, like, that’s you could do
all kinds of guys. Pittsburgh is a great, great, great program.
I’m going to zag a little bit on
mine. I’m going to go. My favorite triplets are actually
two twins and a father. Give me
the Ryan family. And I’m talking about Buddy and Rex and Rob. I
celebrate all three of them now.
The two guys, the two twins went to southwestern Oklahoma State
where buddy went to Oklahoma
State. So we’re not going to split hairs completely, but look
at the belt buckle or whatever
that is on Buddy Ryan, the late Buddy Ryan guys got carried off
the field as a defensive
coordinator after the Super Bowl. That’s how much the 85
bears loved him. As much as
everybody loves Vic Fangio and Steve Spagnuolo, I don’t see
them getting carried off the
field after Super Bowls. They did Rex and Rob, two of my
favorites as well. I love the
Ryan family and all the hell that they raised. Those are my
triplets. Kyle, Kyle real quick,
just a technicality. Just because as we apparently are
adopting on the show, devil in
the details. Bring the Ryan family picture up again.
Unfortunately for Mr. Ryan
there, it’s not a belt buckle. It is a credential. It’s not. So
just got to make sure it looks
like a cool belt buckle. I all right I wish go ahead Rashad
yeah I actually I was debating
who I wanted to go with. I thought about Reggie Bush,
Keyshawn Johnson and Carson
Palmer for a minute, but I had I had to go back. I had to go back
to what I really felt. And that
is Matthew Stafford, James Cook and Ladd McConkey. I think those
triplets are special. I, you
know, we overlook Matthew Stafford a lot of times. He is
going to be a Hall of Famer,
should arguably be a Hall of Famer in my opinion. First
ballot. He’s one of those type
of caliber guys. He’s a workhorse. He never gets hurt.
And if he does, he plays through
it. He’s one of those special kind of kids. And then James
Cook, James Cook, even the
Dalvin Cook family, I don’t know what they produce over there to
run the ball. Well. I need to
talk to their parents because I got two kids that I’m going to
train up, but they’re great
running backs. And then you got McConkey. He can catch
everything. He’s consistent. So
if I had to pick it would be those three. It’s perfect you
guys really well done. You know
that Man Dies was like an They tried to take it from them,
but nay, they will flaunt it in
their face. Kyle yesterday made the parallel between a dessert
and the tush push and naturally
peeling back the curtain on Gmfb. We created an entire
segment out of it on today’s
show. This is the wheel. This is how the circle of life goes on
this show. Here we go. It’s
called what’s on the menu. You got three rounds. We are going
an entire date here. Okay?
Everyone’s come up with appetizers, main course and a
dessert. And you are going to
tell us which food item you chose and which player or team
you are comparing this food to.
Okay, so we’re looking we’re breezy here. I come up to the
table. Hello you guys, what can
I get you for dinner? How are you starting your meal? Manti,
what’s your appetizer? I’m so
excited for this segment, guys. Okay, I, I really put a lot of
effort into this. Okay? Okay. I
got a whole theme, guys. I got a whole theme. It is a steakhouse
theme for these three, for these
three different things okay. Appetizer. Whenever I go to a
place, my favorite place to go
to eat one of my favorite steakhouses is Eddie V’s. Okay.
And I don’t know if you’ve been
to Eddie V’s, but there was one in La Jolla. There’s one in
Manhattan Beach. They have the
best crab cake ever. Like they got this remoulade sauce on it.
It is so good. And the golden
standard of crab cakes is the Maryland crab cake. And it’s.
No, it’s no coincidence that the
team that I’m comparing to this crab cake also plays in
Maryland. They’re called the
Washington Commanders. And the reason why I compare them to
this crab cake is this when you
eat this crab cake from Eddie V’s, it is so good. Like it sets
the standard so high that your
expectation for the next round is so high. You’re like, man, if
this is so good. Round two. The
entrees should. It has to be just as good. It’s kind of like
the commanders and Dan Quinn and
Jayden Daniels how their first year together. It was so good
that you’re like man year two
got to be it’s got to be better than that. But you just don’t
know. There’s always this worry.
Like what if it ain’t? What if the appetizer is a star. Yes.
And so that’s why, to start us
off the appetizer round, I got the Maryland crab cake. And the
commander’s. I cannot believe,
first of all, the excitement and the physical thrill coming off
of your body right now is like
radiating with excitement, but also the offense that I think
the entire state of Maryland,
specifically down the shore, just took Rashad for not saying
the Ravens when he went crab
cake. But Rashad, what’s your appetizer and the team? I’m
talking about some food. I get
excited too. So this one, I’m excited about this. As soon as
I’m done, I’m going to eat. But
right now, if I had to compare the food to a player, mine is a
sweet potato avocado salad. And
I’m starting that off because I’m comparing that to Travis
Hunter. The reason why is
because it’s multi, versatile, as healthy as organic is good,
it’s rich. It’s herbs. It’s
spice. Got a little bit of everything. Got some arugula in
it. Got the sweet potatoes for
the heartiness. Got the avocado for that. That nice smooth
taste. You got the roasted
chickpeas for the crunch. The pears the all kind of stuff
inside of it. And what does it
do. And you bring it all in and pair it together with some red
onions. And this is something
that Travis Hunter is versatile. He can take you wherever you
want. He’s the beginning phase.
He’s not the biggest player, but he’s a splash offense defense.
He’s everywhere. So if I’m going
to advertise and open my Abilene levels, I want something that’s
some greenery, that’s organic,
that’s clean, and it’s just such a good kid on top of all of it.
So let’s start off fresh with
the sweet potato power salad. This is going really well. You
guys are doing a good job with
this. I’m impressed so far. This meal is delicious. Two thumbs up
on Yelp oysters I love them.
They’re not for everybody. Rich, fancy, intoxicating. Not for
everybody. Oysters are Stefon
Diggs I’m a big fan of them. Not everyone is. They’re a little
bit polarizing. If you want to
take it to the place where you say, you know they’re good out
on a boat, fine, I’m not doing
that. But there’s a lot of fixins with it, and there’s some
people who can’t handle the
oysters they like maybe three of them. They order the half dozen.
The full dozen. They’re like,
that’s too much. I need to get out of this plate of oysters.
It’s expensive. It’s exotic
among foods. It’s kind of fashionable. I don’t know what
all that green crap is all over
the oysters, but I like just a little lemon. Maybe some
horseradish for some spice. I
like oysters, you may not. I like Stefon Diggs, you may not.
And you can get some really good
oysters in New England. Trust me, I think you will this fall
as well. And don’t they expire
quickly? Isn’t that what happens to oysters as well? Got to keep
them fresh. Got to keep them
fresh. You got to keep them moving, you know. Okay. Second
round, the main course I am
back. I feel like I like one of these. Okay. For the second
course Manti what will you be
having and what parallel between a player and a team will you be
making with this food? Remember
a steak house team? Okay, okay. And Rashad, you know this.
Ruth’s Chris is off in the
restaurant that we go and we do a lot of rookie dinners at.
Okay. And at those dinners, at
those rookie dinners. There’s also this debate with half of
the team because for some
reason, half of the team at a steak restaurant order a stuffed
chicken breast. So you may be
asking, well, how does this relate to any and any type of
team? Well, as as Jamie said
earlier, you have the waiter, they come over and say, hey sir,
can I take your order? These are
the chef’s specials for this week. Before the waiter can even
start, the person that orders
the stuffed chicken breast knows exactly what they’re going to do
and exactly who they are, and
they say stuffed chicken breast. And there’s a debate of why
would you order that? That’s
kind of like the Detroit Lions. There’s analytics that tell Dan
Quinn. Dan Quinn is fourth down.
You should punt the ball. He’s like no I’m going to go for it
Dan Quinn it’s fourth down. You
should kick the field goal. No I’m going to I’m going to go for
it I’m going to try to score a
touchdown. Dan Quinn is like the guy at Dan Quinn Dan Campbell is
like the guy at Ruth’s Chris who
when you are surrounded with steaks and there’s all of these
recommendations of which steak
to bone in, I’m going to go with the stuffed chicken breast. He
doesn’t care. He knows exactly
what he wants, and he knows exactly what you’re going to get
when you go to Ruth’s Chris.
That is run by Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions. So I got the
stuffed chicken breasts. Nice.
That stuffed chicken breast is banging too. And you got to tell
him about you going to frisk
that rookie dinner. Who? Picking up the bill. That’s what the
show is. Because that bill is
absolutely insane. So while I’m taking these rookies, if I’m
taking them to that dinner
already, I lathered the palate with Travis. Right. Young rookie
coming in. And now here come the
splash meal. Abdul Khader Abdul Carter with a New York strip
steak. How? He is a New York
strip steak and cleats basically is what he is. He’s most
anticipated when that steak come
out and you can smell the season and the butter just marinating
right on top of it. You cannot
wait to dive in. And I cannot wait, like everybody else, to
see what does this generational
talent kid produce? His athleticism, his his his
tenaciousness. He’s six three,
250, can fly, can do everything. But the thing about the steak,
it’s just seasonal. You season
it simply. And don’t forget about a little dab of the salt.
They got salt Bay right? Put a
little dab on that salt. And guess what that salt does? It
pulls everything together. And
what are they pulling together over there in New York you got
Thibodeau coming off the edge
pulling it together. You got Burns coming off the edge
pulling it together. And you got
what they call them sexy decks. So what does Abdul Carter do. He
pulls everything together with a
little bit of salt because he is ready. And prime steak to go. So
give me that food Carter. Good
one I like it and he is a rare talent. Guys. I can’t think of
the more ostentatious order in
any restaurant than the sizzling fajita platter. It’s just so
much noise and so much look at
me and there’s a brass band that comes out and it’s fire and it’s
noise. I’m sorry I got to do
this. Dak Prescott’s assistant fajitas a lot of noise, a lot of
attention a lot of volume.
Everyone’s always looking. And when you get down to it are the
fajitas the special. Don’t get
me wrong they’re good. It’s low calorie. It’s protein. But
inevitably there’s kind of these
greasy peppers and like onion strings that are all kind of
intertwined with the meat. The
only meat is a third of it. And like in the end, it leaves you
feeling a little dissatisfied at
the end of the meal. There’s always this risk where the
server says, please don’t touch.
Sometimes the pan has that like oven pot holder over the handle.
It’s a lot of experience. You
can’t just get a burger or a steak. I would say Dak Prescott
right now in his career is the
sizzling fajita platter. Oh my gosh Kyle first of all I it was
always like a childhood
heartbreak of mine to realize that it may not have been just
as delicious as you wanted it to
is like they literally bring the oven mitt out on the handle and
set it down. Yeah yeah yeah yeah
yeah. I feel so adult having this. Yeah. But I will have the
flour tortillas. All right. And
for the final course the desert manti. Which dessert do you pick
and what team did you go with.
And what’s the common dessert at a steakhouse. So we’re going to
go back to Eddie V’s and Eddie.
He’s got this banana foster thing. The thing about when you
order the Bananas Foster for
dessert, as they bring out the rum separate and they light it
on fire, and they pour it on top
of the Bananas Foster, and the flamb? starts. It’s on fire. And
it’s a lot like the Dallas
Cowboys. How in the beginning there’s a lot of flames. But if
you dig into this banana foster
while it’s still on fire, you might fall under the influence.
But if you just wait a little
bit, eventually that flame starts to die down. As the
season starts to go on and they
get to, it starts to die down a little bit. And so you start to
Wonder Man. Well, what happened
to this flame like the Cowboys? A lot of the times when they get
into the playoffs. But then you
bite into this thing and it’s so good and you’re like, man, I
want this on every single
Thanksgiving going forward. From here on, I want this Bananas
Foster, especially on
Thanksgiving. So I got the Bananas Foster and the Dallas
Cowboys really good. Yeah. And
for me, I’m following you up with a little bit of dessert.
I’m going with a classic
American apple pie. And I’m comparing that to Justin Herbert
and the Chargers. How am I
getting there? Is this because the American Pie is classic is
really good. It’s tasteful, but
standing alone, it depends on who the chef depends on the
chef. It’s like a macaroni and
cheese. It’s a classic taste, but it depends on who, the chef,
on how well it is. And Justin
Herbert is one of those guys. Come in is breaking every single
record known to mankind as a
rookie. The top five this, top five that. But but one of them
that stands out the most is the
second most passing yards from a rookie. And the second now the
first was Andrew Luck. Now let’s
get into it. Let’s go to the chef Andrew Luck was coached up
in college at Stanford. By who?
Jim Harbaugh. We fast forward to the Vikings. The Vikings yes
exactly. Fast forward to the
Vikings. Vikings have Sam Darnold play very well. They let
him go. They had an opportunity
to pick up Aaron Rodgers a potential Hall of Famer not a
potential a Hall of Famer down
the road. They didn’t choose to elect to bring him on the team
because they have who JJ
McCarthy who was coached by who in college Jim Harbaugh. You see
where I’m going. There’s a chef.
Jim Harbaugh is the coach of the Chargers. Who’s been that
missing chef to help Justin
Herbert get over that hump. And don’t mind you that they got two
first round draft picks at the
backfield. They got first round draft picks all over the place
on that on that team. And they
will be a top ten defense. So that Wholesomeness American Pie
will come together with that
combination. Well done. Jim Harbaugh is like the Gordon
Ramsay who like educates all of
the young ones up and coming. Mine is very simple. My dessert
is something called Dippin Dots,
a dessert that I have long hated and had beef with because Dippin
Dots and the people there had
the audacity to come out 20, 25 years ago and call themselves
the ice cream of the future. We
are now in that future that they proclaim to be the ice cream of.
And I don’t see people walking
around with Dippin Dots no more than I see them on hoverboards.
So you know what Dippin Dots is,
Trevor Lawrence kind of waiting, buddy. We’re kind of waiting.
It’s a few years in. We were
promised great things. You’re a good guy and a good leader, and
you got a new coach and all
kinds of talent. But I’ve been waiting for Dippin Dots my
entire life. I think soccer will
be America’s sport of note before Dippin Dots are the ice
cream of the present. I’m
waiting for Trevor Lawrence to have that. I am now arrived
season where I’m, oh, I don’t
know, like a second team All-Pro where I’m winning playoff games
or I’m throwing for 5000 yards.
I’m winning. I’m throwing to Travis Hunter. I’m doing this.
I’m doing that. Until then,
Dippin Dots, Trevor Lawrence I hate to do it, but prove me
wrong. Wow. Okay, gentlemen,
just to make sure I have everybody’s orders straight, the
steakhouse experience. You are
going with the crab cake, the stuffed chicken breast and the
Bananas Foster. Yes. Very well
done. You’re going to eat well tonight. And it seems like
you’re on a health kick, sir.
Sitting in table two. Power salad, New York strip and the
American apple pie. And we’ll
make sure that we have a proper chef cooking it for you. I am
concerned, though, about chair
three for you to have a food experience going from oysters to
sizzling fajita platter to
Dippin Dots, I’m not sure this is the establishment for you.
You can go to the food court
down the street because that’s where you’re going to have all
of those offerings. Kyle. Well,
you don’t you don’t want to send me to the food court because I’m
going to order four martinis,
and that means a huge tip for you. So don’t do that. You can
stay. I’ll hook you up. Do you
like olives or a lemon twist? Yeah, I like a twist. Ride hard.
Push. Hurts. His back hurts, has
plenty of time. He’s looking, he
fights, he completes it. Touchdown! And Jen Brown hurts
back looking. He is going deep
and it is caught. Touchdown. Devonte Smith 46 yards. The Grim
Reaper. It’s over. The
Philadelphia Eagles have won Super Bowl 59. They have beat
the Kansas City Chiefs 40 to 22.
It’s their second Super Bowl win in seven years. What a game.
What a season. What a team. The
greatest Eagles team in modern history. Eagles fans savor it
and rejoice. One of the least
competitive Super Bowls ever played. Let’s just call it what
it was a shellacking from start
to finish, and it was the second one that this dude came out
victorious after. I think top to
bottom, there is not a better athlete in the NFL. There’s not
an older friend of this show is
about to play his 13th NFL season. Is that right? Two time
Super Bowl champ Lane Johnson
was up Lane. How are we doing baby. What is up. Good morning.
Yeah camp is upon us. So yeah a
few weeks away. So getting revved up. Well all the other
teams are getting revved up.
Part of your revving lane is just little incident. You got to
do where you got to go collect
your Super Bowl ring. We have now heard that is going to
happen on July 18th. You get the
rings. Is there a little party? What is this like and how does
it feel to actually get the
hardware? Oh, that’s a good question. I didn’t really
remember the first one. So I’ll
tell you more about this one. But yeah, but yeah you have a
ceremony and then yeah I don’t
remember much after that. But I’ll tell you more soon. Now
Lane, I don’t know the vet
status that you have right now to be able to do this interview
in your car. As you said before,
training camp starts, you’re in the cut off. T, where are you
right now? What are you going?
What are you preparing to go do with your day? Are we
interrupting a workout, a
stretch session? What’s going on in Lane’s life right now? Yeah.
No. So my dad’s house. Yeah.
Just visiting family. I don’t know if he has Wi-Fi here, so
I’m out in the car and. Yeah, we
are. Yeah. Gting ready for online masterminds. And then I
head to Philly soon. So yeah,
just doing a little last minute, seeing family, then getting
ready to head up north. Well,
maybe with some of that contract extension money, you can boost
dad’s Wi-Fi signal. So you can
do these interviews properly from wherever you are. This
contract that you got keeps you
in Philly through 2027. Congratulations. Truly, it would
be your 15th season if you
accomplish this, which would tie you with another. Another
favorite friend of our show,
Brandon Graham as the longest tenured Eagle. Do you guys have
conversations about this? Do you
have a goal to beat him? Do you do you accept ending in a tie?
Yeah. If there’s anybody to end
the tie with would be BG yeah. He just yeah it’s crazy that you
know we had a number of guys all
stay together for all these years and yeah I mean it doesn’t
feel like number 13 but you know
here it is. You know I still feel young at heart, but, you
know, you can’t ignore Father
Time and but I’m I mean, I’m still having fun and I enjoy
what I do. And I love being
around the guys competing. And yeah, it’s just something that
that I really loved, loved doing
every minute of it, bro. Come on, Lane, you’re old bro. And
the reason why I say we’re
classmates like we’re drafted the same year. Obviously you was
drafted fourth overall. I
believe it was the first day I was drafted. Second day we
played against each other once.
But what keeps you going, bro? Like, why after 13 seasons? Are
you looking at this? This game
called football. And what gets you up and like man, I got to go
train. I got to get ready. What
keeps you going, Lane. Yeah I mean I think I just I really
like structure and routine. And
so, you know, after a long season you get to offseason and
it’s totally different. So I do
look forward mostly I think getting around the guys and
being around the people that I
love and enjoy. So there’s just something about laying it all on
the line every week. It’s hard
to replicate that in any other profession. But yeah, it’s very
entertaining day to day. We put
in work. But, you know, for me it’s all about the relationships
that I formed and, you know,
that will last a lifetime. You know what, Lane? There was some
other work that was put in by
some people in the offseason, and that was to save the tush
push, which happened. It’s
alive. It’s well, it’s legal. You guys can run it as much as
you want next year. Personally,
I think it’s a huge victory. I’ve been screaming at this
table that it should not be
taken away from you, but there are still people out there who
disagree. I want to play you a
clip. And this is from one Frankie Luvu, who was the maniac
Evel Knievel, diver over the
line in the playoffs, and he was on the show lane a little ways
back, and we asked him what he
thinks should be done with the tush push. And here’s his
response. Yeah, I think they
should ban it, you know what I mean? But I know the argument is
going to be about like, hey, you
know, you guys have to stop it. Don’t get us in short yardage
and whatnot. But it’s kind of
like a Chico play, man. You got Jordan Mailata on the right.
It’s pretty much the scrum in
rugby. That’s how I kind of look at it. So they should ban it.
It’s a cheat code. It’s a scrum
in rugby Lane. You’re right in the middle of it. What do you
have to say to everyone who has
a negative opinion about that play? Yeah it is. It has become
a weird play. It was something
that, you know, we’d run every so often and, you know, and I
never thought it would have
grown to this magnitude of what it has become. Listen, you know,
I think the guys who should have
the votes are probably the, the center and both the guards and
probably the, the D tackles that
are in the middle. It just. Yeah. Yeah. It’s something when
you do it consecutively. You
know I think the main thing was they were worried about player
safety. So yeah I mean it’s
something that you know I run I don’t think a lot about it. You
know going to each play. But yes
it does. It does favor a rugby scrum. But it’s our rugby scrum
I guess. Yeah. It’s your little
rugby rugby scrum and it gets you into the end zone. You guys
love it. Lane training camp just
around the corner. How do you approach this. By now it’s your
13th one. You you have to have
some skills or like tactful ability to negotiate and get
through training camp because
it’s the dog days of summer. You guys are a bunch of veterans on
that line. How do you go about
training camp, making sure you survive it? Yeah, one day at a
time. And I really soak in the
meeting time with Stout and coach Greg Austin. You know,
there’s a lot of comedic aspects
to the meeting as you can imagine. So lots of new faces.
So yeah, once that gets rolling
and then yeah, we really take a day at a time. And you know,
once we have a joint practice to
it’s you know we’re in the game. So for us it’s just about
staying healthy. And yeah just
staying on top of your routine just so you can practice hard
and, you know, get through it.
Totally. We were talking a little bit before we came on
camera about the last time that
I saw you. The last time I played against you was Notre
Dame versus Oklahoma. And I
don’t know what you remember about that game, but what I do
remember was it was probably one
of the most electric environments. It was a night
game. I remember you guys had
the red, white alternating colors in the stands. I also do
remember the scouting report was
we were going to blitz the right side of the offensive line and
not the left side of the
offensive line, because number 69 was over there named Lane
Johnson. And we ain’t going that
way. What do you remember about that game that that stood out
for you guys? I was like, man,
those those helmets are are really gold. They are as what
they appear. No it was, it was.
Yeah. I mean it was a game. I think it was really competitive
the first half. Then the second
half. Yeah, it really got away from us. I remember seeing you
just little blurs. You just
little blurs out of out of my peripherals. You just flying
around and trying to. And trying
to work up to you to Stefon to it. So yeah, we came in on the
unfortunate side of that game.
But yes, I do remember it just being very fast. And yeah like
you said it was electric that
night especially y’all coming into town like that. No it was
it was definitely a great
experience. Two great programs going against each other and
talking about Oklahoma. NFL.com
recently released its 2025 top ten triplets by College
affiliation, which grouped the
top quarterback, running back and wide receiver. And I don’t
know if you’ve seen Elaine, but
Oklahoma came out on top. They had Baker Mayfield, Joeixon
and CeeDee lamb. How does that
feel for your alma mater to be recognized that way? And I know
you do have a quarterback right
now that you just won a Super Bowl with that technically did
go to Oklahoma. Would you make
any changes to that list? Yeah, you could swap in. You could
swap in Jalen you know in the
middle there if you want if you wanted to. But no I think it’s I
think it’s awesome just for
these guys to carry on tradition and things that they’ve
accomplished in college and now
being recognized in the NFL. It’s just you know, I think they
did things the right way. And
yeah, I mean, it’s hard to argue with what they picked because
that was a special time and
sooner program history. And I think they’re all eager to get
back on track this year. So
yeah, it’s definitely a new thing going into the SEC. But it
is what it is. It always is and
what it is, what it is right now. Lane is ol masterminds. I
want to hear about this. I want
more people to know about it. You are hosting the eighth
annual Ol Mastermind Summit. It
begins in a few days. Give us the state of the nation. What is
this all about? Tell the people.
Yeah, this is all about growing the game. It’s all about, you
know, O-line development. So
we’re able to get some of the highest, you know, the best
players that have that have ever
played the positions to come into a room and really talk
everything from, you know, off
the field routine to diet to, you know, how are we attacking
the run game, pass game. So you
really just go into the dynamics of O-line football. And yeah,
it’s just a great weekend to
really develop and create new relationships. So it started off
with 27 people. This year we’re
having around 200. We had to scale it back a little bit
compared to last year. But yeah
really, you know two days for camp and we’re talking
everything in between the lines.
And we have guys Joe Thomas coming this year Dion Dawkins
and Portillos is hooking us up
for lunch. And a new venue is that this year. So definitely
excited about that. Lane. Listen
you had us at Portillos. I was born and raised in Chicago. I
was raised on the Italian beef.
Is the beef bus coming to the ol masterminds, and which offensive
lineman does DraftKings have as
the best odds to put away the most? Ooh, that is a good
question. I do not know if the
bus will be here. I will probably know here in a few
hours, but I would I would
hopefully plan on them being there. Let’s see. Joe Thomas
lost some weight, so I think he
can put some back on. I think he can. He can smash down some some
food pretty well and then he’ll
lecture you on how to cook it because Joe’s really big on
that. And he’s got his blowtorch
and he does the steaks. You know that. Lane, it is so good to see
you. No doubt, no doubt. And he
looks great. But let’s blow him up a little bit. We’ve been
friends with you for years,
Lane, before you were a two time Super Bowl champ. We’re always
happy when you come by. Pray for
your dad’s Wi-Fi, because this one’s beautiful. Lane Johnson of
the Philadelphia Eagles.
Everybody, it’s great to see you my man. Thank y’all I appreciate
y’all having me. You’re the man
bro. Appreciate you dude. See

  1. The Mantie guy is nice, but does he know his stuff? His takes seem 'off' to me. Also, what happened to this show? I remember it being a lot better….

  2. If Kyle leaves the show it would be hard for me to stick with GMFB. LOVE the show, but there's a lot of other really good shows out there, can't watch em all.

  3. Since the Cowboys were last in the Super Bowl, the Seahawks – surely one of the five least talked-about or thought-about teams – has been THREE times, winning one, they’ve owned the head-to-head, and have a better overall record. That’s not to pump the Seahawks, it’s just to point out that if the Cowboys are that far behind one of he NFL’s least-cared about teams… they’re only on anyone’s minds because you keep talking about them for no apparent reason. At this point they are famous for being famous. The Kardashians of the NFL, basically.
