All [Music] right, everyone. Welcome back to the Tea Time tribe. We are a group of Florida State University alumni who decided to get a group text and turn to this podcast. Week in and week out, we will discuss all things golf from PJ tour events to our own personal experiences. Uh, I know we have the open championship next week, so we got the Scottish this week. But before we get into that, we will talk about this last week’s tournament, the John Deere Classic. As we talked about last episode, playoff golf, it’s it’s the bet. It’s the one we should have put the money on. Would have hit it, what, three times now? Four times, which a lot better than our tribe bet has been doing. But it was uh it was a another another tournament. Low rounds left and right. And for me personally, it was it was nice to see play well. I thought he was going to pull it off on Sunday, uh, but he just couldn’t get get over the finish line. But what what’s our thoughts on the John Deere? Cool. I love I First off, I got to commend heads off to Home to posting the usernames, the user handles of the of the guys that were basically telling him to go commit suicide. Like, that’s just that’s just [ __ ] up, man. Like, you I don’t care I don’t care how much money you lose, it’s never the guy that you’re betting on’s fault. like it’s always going to be it’s always your fault. You take you take ownership or responsibility. You can call him a lot of names, but don’t tell the guy to go go kill himself. I just Yeah, it’s brutal, but it’s brutal world out there. Yeah. Yeah. Internet’s a internet’s a crazy place sometimes. I want to know how they found his uh his Venmo handle. Someone Venmoed requested him like $1,900. I guess they picked him to win and he didn’t. How did he find that? Is it just at maximum? Is it that easy? Can we all just start? I’d probably just search for it. Yeah, true. Yeah, it’s like that’s crazy. Um Scotty Scotty said he had to turn his off after after Augustine National, right? Yeah, I would I would I if I was in that kind if I was that kind of professional athlete, there’s no chance in hell. I have a Vinmo. I think he’d get hacked. People could find it, get requests like that all year round. I mean, you’ve got enough money. Have your money guys send the money in a, you know, much more professional sense. But I guess, you know, in a way they are just like us. you know, they’ve got to Venmo their friends or people are Venmoing them. Where’s the Venmo Scott sponsorship for a golfer out there? I mean, throw the big V on the on the on the sleeve as it’s it’s out there. Yeah, B, to piggy back off what you were saying about Max. I was definitely pulling for him. I thought he was uh after after Saturday, I thought he was really going to pull it off, but just didn’t have any juice on Sunday. The moment for me though, I think it was on Friday I was watching and he hit his like a picture perfect drive down the middle and the ball landed in a I don’t know boy how do you guys say it with like it was a refix divot. Is that how you say it? Sure. In a filledin divot. Yeah. A filled in divot. Yeah. And so he was looking around and it’s just like, you know, there’s for a rules official was just like, “Hey man, that’s that’s the game. You just caught a bad break.” And he gave it a full swing and it just the ball went 20 yards forward. It was just cost him a stroke. Just completely unlucky there and, you know, handled it how Max handles things. Just kind of laughed it off and kind of kept going about his day. But super unlucky for him um in that moment. Yeah, good event. Like you said, a lot of guys going low. We were expecting them to go low. I think we said last episode the winner was 28 under. I think we had 181 19 under this this 18 under this year was the winner. 10. Yeah. I mean, we could have we could have rode that bonus golf bet end of day Thursday and kept hammering it cuz there were so many guys that were tied for the lead within one lead, two for the lead. It was the leaderboard was just jam-packed. But yeah, great event. It was a little I was kind of pulling for Grio there at the end, but just completely made a mess of the first playoff hole, but you know, good event and I’m looking forward to seeing some of the big boys back this week. Yeah, good event. It was I think the weather obviously made the scores a little bit uh not as low as they typically are. It was windy windy on it was Saturday, moved up all the tea times. Um, so it made it a little bit more competitive and a little bit more jam-packed as we saw that leaderboard. I think on Sunday there was like six or seven guys who were either tied or within a stroke of the lead. This Brian Campbell guy, never heard of him. Never heard of him until this weekend. So, the second win on tour this year. Yeah, second win on tour. This year. This year. This year. Yeah. Hey, miss the first one. Yeah, the sequel is better than the first. I’ll say that. Um mainly because I Yeah, I’m going in backwards order here, but this is uh this is one of those events that u you’ll get a random uh you know, person that you never heard of. You know, Davis Thompson last year. He was a young guy, never won it last year. Um, you know, obviously it’s it’s usually a weekend field. Um, so this is just prime for I think this is the way it’s going to go for who knows how many years going forward. I feel like this is this tournament is going to be around for a while as long as you have sponsorship money. Seems like John Deere is doing well. So they’re always going to have that tournament there and we’re always going to have a random winner. So it’s let’s keep it rolling. It’s the the Quad City’s major. Yeah. C Cooer uh who was who was making the the late Ron Met Cooer had a great quote on Saturday after his uh Saturday after his round that he said he appreciates Scotty not playing this week. So to give everybody else a chance when they interviewed him. Uh so that was that was a fun fun low jab in the eye. But completely agree John. I think we’re this is this is an event that will always be primed for a breakout a potentially breakout star. You think back to someone like Jordan Spe, you just you never know who could be making a run. David to Davis Thompson was what was it the last the last three or four years they had listening to the the broadcast the last three or four years uh the winner the winner of the tournament had they had all stayed at the same uh home just off property. So there was something something to that. So this is the first year that that streak got broken. But yeah, I I think the the the rain the rain was a big factor. It wasn’t consistent either. It didn’t just rain the entire time or it didn’t just not rain, right? It was it was on off on off. And I think that’s what kept them from going super low because if it’s wet wet conditions, they can go low, right? You saw how you saw how fast they wanted those greens to be. Um I don’t know how much much of the broadcast you guys were watching on Sunday, but it was they were brown. Like there were even even my wife was was calling out why the greens look so bad. It’s because they they were trying to make them as fast as possible because of how wet it was out there. So just one of those things you can’t can’t account for. But but yeah, it I would have liked to liked to see home uh get it done. Would have liked to see quite a few of those other guys that were right at 16 under. But I’ll give it to I’ll give it to Brian Campbell. He really really suck it out towards the end there. I thought I thought he was done after his after his hooker hooker of a drive on was that 16 or 17. Uh I think it was 16, but he uh he scrambled back for for bogey on that hole just to go. Well, yeah. To that to that point, Ian, a lot of the guys that were at the top of the leaderboard were leaving the doors door open for guys that were stroke back, two strokes back. So, it looked like, you know, Max was playing a little ahead a couple holes. He was, you know, two back. It looked like he had no chance, but then all of a sudden you get the snap hook from Thompson, go kind of making a mess of things and then all of a sudden he kind of just kept the door open for guys and guys just kind of kept getting closer and closer and closer and I thought Max really I I was really really hoping he was going to pull through but wasn’t meant to be for Max. Hope he can kind of build some momentum off of it though. Um I don’t know if he qualifies for any of these next few events coming up but you know definitely some positives for him. One thing that I was going to bring up that was a little bit of an eyebrow razor. Pock eater withdrew after I think was it Friday? Did he play Saturday? He played Saturday. He shot 76 on Saturday. Shot 76 on Saturday and withdrew and didn’t really give a reason. So that was a little bit of a head scratcher there. Kid just won. He was on fire. Played great Thursday, Friday, Saturday, you know, fires a 76 and then withdraws. So kind of curious to see what’s going on with him. Maybe we’ll see something in the news come out in the next couple of days. But, you know, we were talking about last episode, kid just hits the crap out of the ball, has a lot of game to him. Hope he’s all good there. Um because he he could be a real player on the tour. Yeah, that was that was a bad routing for him. That was a I mean, no reason given. So, that could have been a stay in the car. We’re done. We’re not coming back after afterwards. I mean, left a lot of money on the table if that’s if that’s really my reason. That’s kind of crazy. Yeah, that’s Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe we may never find out, but yeah, that was was very odd. Well, I I’d like to say for for everyone on this pod who gave me so much [ __ ] for this pick last week or two weeks ago versus this last weekend and literally the roof was coming in on me that holy [ __ ] how how how stupid could you be? Oh, how the turn of events with Rick Big Dick Rick coming out swinging, firing some rounds that I just love love to see. Love to see shot. We did We did discuss We did discuss. No. Yeah. Well, that too. We said that’s in like the the last hour of the show. Come on. We’re jumping ahead here. We did discuss with the Ricky thing after we bashed him, but mainly me. Hand up. Mainly me that he was way overdue to be to have a good weekend here. So, we talked it out. We had a little therapy session and we all kind of came to the conclusion that we would give him another spin. And it worked out in our favor. He got the demons out. your reasons were demonic for the whatever turned um the rocket. He’s trying to keep a card. You’re trying to get him to death page for God’s sakes. Let’s walk before we can run. We’re done talking about that. But anyway, good for BDR. Yeah. I I And I just want to call out here too for for a few of the rounds, which here again, this is just cleaning up cleaning up some of the mistakes. Round one, shot 65. Round two, uh, shot 72. Uh, round three, 67. Round four, 66. One round. I mean, literally one round. And he had on on his round of 65, he had a double bogey and a bogey on the card. You know, you take those you take those down to two pars, it’s a hell of a run. It could be he could be Ricken could be another pick in my future uh sometime soon. Here we go. Love this. Here we go. There we go. Here we go. Take him to dinner over Twitter first. Well, if if we’re gonna start talking about those that rose to the occasion this past week, here we go. Here we go. I think we have to we we have to give a big round of applause to uh Nick Dunlap. What a guy. Flowers. Flowers for the back. Well done. God, did you see his uh his splits, his driving stats versus his putting shots? shots gained. I mean, holy hell in a hand basket. He was dead last, I think, or close to dead last shots gained off the box. Yeah. Really? But he but he was first in putting. He gained like 11 strokes putting. Wow. The tournament. Imagine. I mean, he he would he’d win by 10. So, I mean, this this was like the Scotty splits. It was just his putting was atrocious earlier, you know, last year and everything else was great. And now it’s just Dunlap’s kind of got the, you know, the the opposite going. But hey, finally we finally found something. Got it done. What a pick bird. That’s the pick of the pick of the year. Yeah, that was so far. So far, I think that is the biggest the biggest odds as far as spread. Yeah, as far as for top for top 20. Yeah, for sure. That’s a big win. 10 10 10 for 100 or 120. Uh 120. Damn, that was that’s crazy for top 20. Bang. Wow. I think I was I was good when he when he had that double and triple on I think it was Thursday’s round. I was like here we go again. Here comes the 90. Here comes the invite to the pot this week. So B, can you recap our tribe and spear bets? Do you have that? Sure can. I’ve got a lot to say after he says this, by the way. A lot. Go for it. And a new and a new devel and a new development in I I know I think I know where you’re going with this. So, uh, we’re going to start with the tribe bet first because we still have yet to hit that. Fun fact, this was the first tribe bet where we split two and two. Okay. So, we had Big Dick Rick and Mr. Lucas Glover both finished top 20. Lucas, at least I at least I contributed something. And then we had uh our good old Aussie friend Jason Day and Poston. Didn’t the Postman was very very very very disappointing as a former winner. I mean, this is this is one of the this is what this is a tournament where you eat. This is where you get your points, brother. I know he’s pro obviously probably way more disappointed than I am right now. I’m not mad. Just disappointed in his his form. It’s on Thursday of all days. He threw up whatever 7374. Everyone’s going low. Morning during waves, especially the morning waves. And then I think Friday has 67, but was, you know, too little too late. All right, but we’ll get to the spear bet now. This is where I’m going. Well, Jason Day did 7466 as well, so it was kind of on the same same trend of JT there. Yeah, I’ll say I I expected more from from a guy who’s playing in the John Deere Classic who wears camouflage as part of his daily get up. So, you know, it is what it is. But yeah, I I I don’t have anything to say. I think we’ll get into we’ll get into the spear bet here in a second because I have I have I have big feelings big feelings to express for my big feelings too. Please go it should have been a it should have been a warning sign for you that I wanted to take the postman but you took him first like the alarm bell should have been going off that it was something I was I was I was I was uh mentally I was committed to that and I was like no I got I got to see the river I got to see the turn. I understand that. That’s fair. But JT Poston didn’t see the turn this weekend. He went home. So anyway, all right. So on to the spear bets. I was the only one that hit Nick Dunlap. $120. Um let’s see. Ian, I think you picked, if I’m not mistaken, the highest ranked guy. Yeah. In the field this week. Yep. Please just let me know. I I I don’t think he made the cut. No, that that would be correct. Yeah. What are your feelings on that? The floor is yours. The floor is yours on it. For a for a gentleman who has made the RDER Cup off points, I have no I have I was in sheer. I I think this what PTSD feels like. Truly I I mean I’m genuinely in shock. This guy has ladies and ladies and gentlemen, this is Ian’s Vietnam. Go on. Straight up. Straight up. I I felt so confident with this pick going into this week thinking Ben Griffin, this guy has been I have underestimated him every week of this year. I’ve yet to pick him all year and I I think I has anybody picked him out of the group here? I I think Okay, John. So, you you had one pick for for him and I think that was part of the tribe bet. Yes. Um so so yeah, it’s [ __ ] continues of winning us no money. Right. Again, winning us no money. The his play the only thing that I can hope for the only thing and he would never admit to this because this would be doing such a distur disservice to the John Deere Classic would be that he wanted he had sponsored he had sp to play in the John Deere for x amount of time on US soil before he went overseas and he wanted but he still wanted to get out. So he played I don’t even I don’t even know if I’d call it playing golf for his level of play that he’s shown that he has displayed the entire year so far to do what he just did the Jean Deere Classic. It makes me so concerned for the Ryder Cup for him to be one of our locks. I hope I hope it was just a blip on the map. That’s He’s not a lock yet though. Griffin. Yeah, he’s number eight. Yeah, he’s not a lock. The only like lock lock is Scott, right? Yeah. Yeah, we we can we can go into the rider standings in a little bit. Yeah, he’s he’s got he’s got two wins this year from jumping. Yeah. I mean, it started going down like a conspiracy theory train there. I I just don’t know. I just don’t get it. I just don’t I don’t understand how somebody goes from playing as well as he did to to this. But all right, before we get to exit stage left, we’re we’re gonna we’re gonna go over to Jordan’s spirit bat pick. Okay. All right, so we’ll talk about Rio for a quick second. My man looked awesome. He looked awesome on Thursday and then just barely made the cut and then just did absolutely nothing. I was texting Newberg. I was looking for live odds to bet him top 20. Thank you for not responding or thank you for not letting him be available. Because the guy was just like, “Hey, I made the cut. I’m going to cash a check and I’m going to get the f out of I’m going to be the first one out of here. Just disappointing. He’s He’s a good golfer. He just didn’t want to show it this week and I’m going to keep him in the back pocket. I might use him again. Last but not least. No, no, no, no. Last but not least. Yes, that’s true. What are your thoughts? Michael Kemp. So, we have a lot to unpack here, Ian. And you’re you’re going to think this is funny, and I’m gonna I’m gonna bang one of our friends with this this award that I’m about to give out, and I hate to do it to him, but there’s no better name for it. Michael Kim pulled off the Paul Paul Barjon this weekend. Now, if you remember Ian a couple years ago to Corm Ferry event, he went 63 63 or 64 in the first round much like our friend Michael Kim did on Thursday or should I say former friend Michael Kim. I think he was solo third maybe tied for third but I mean just great first round and then Friday we go out and we should have said before and we bogey 18 to miss the cup by one. I didn’t have enough time to go and do some research to see how many times this has happened this season to see someone who’s in the top five to not making the cut. It’s got to be a short list but our friend Mr. Kim, former friend, Mr. Kim, pulled off the Paul Barjon. I hate to call it that. That’s the I mean, that’s what we’re calling it now. Sorry, Paul, but Michael did the exact same thing to not make the cut. Former winner, top 30 in the FedEx points right now. Played really, really well. Really, really well on Thursday. Friday, we just Yeah, we we red shirted on Friday, I guess. I mean, just kind of sprayed the ball all over the place. Put himself in a lot a lot of bad spots. Still had a chance at 18 to I think he missed. He had less than 10 feet for par, I think, um, to make the cut on the dot and he missed it. And he was talking all week. He’s like, he doesn’t even know if he’s in the British Open yet. And, you know, maybe if he made the cut, Mike would be guaranteed. I need to look that up. But we got a Paul Barjon award winner this uh this week. Friend of the Pod Paul just getting a random stray. Oh, that was a big stray. I’m sorry. Yeah. If we can find if we can find someone else who’s done this this similar thing, especially more than once, be happy to rename it. But this is a working title. It’s a Paul Barjon award. Michael Kim pulled it off this week. So, I mean, I dare say I dare say JT has gone from being in the top 10 quite a few quite a few tournaments this year and dropped out because of a very large number that he’s made on one or two holes. And I would make the caveat too that it I would exclude majors and signature events since majors are majors and signature events there’s really not a cut. Um, so I would limit it to like 10 or 12 um events. I would fill that in. Yeah. What this is what makes me the most concerned about Big Griffith and then I’ll drop it. No, no, no. This is Let’s keep this going. No, no, we safe. So So I’ll give him I’ll give him round one, right? Round one. He’s getting a feel. He’s getting a feel for the course. Okay. All good. Shoots shoots 34. It’s a par. It’s par 71, right? So shoots 34 in the front. 35. So, one under on the front and he shoots one over, one over on the back to shoot even par, right? Okay, no big deal. Still, still early in your season. You’re getting your footing. All right, cool. Round two comes around, starts on number 10, goes out and shoots three under. Awesome. Definitely on pace to make the cut. And you go three under through seven holes. And then you go bogey, double bogey on 17 and 18 for you to miss the cup. I That is not That is not Rder Cup play. That is just not That is not what you want. That is just not what I You got You got to want it. I hate to that [ __ ] [ __ ] that Macroy That [ __ ] [ __ ] that Macroy said. Nah, I don’t know if I wanted to make the cut. Like, [ __ ] you, dude. Everybody wants to make the cut. I don’t care who you are. If you don’t want to make the cut, you shouldn’t be out there. But like that that’s concern. Let me ask a question. Let me ask a question though cuz cuz I have a I have maybe a theory. It’s the John Deere. The big boys aren’t out there. You know, I understand Griffin isn’t, you know, the elite of the elite, but he’s having a great season like we talked about. I know regardless, Juicy, how much of this how much of his Friday round was, hey, let me let me work. So, let me try some things. Maybe I I’m tweaking my game a little bit. Maybe did he approach Friday’s round almost as a practice round in a sense of, hey, I’m going to work on this and it just didn’t come to fruition. Or maybe he would took a little extra risk because maybe he knows in the future he’ll have to do that. maybe he didn’t take it as seriously I guess is my point because of the event of the people in it and his position in the tournament already and then it all just kind of came to a head. John, what are your No, I was going to say that JC is saying that like he’s playing down to the competition a little bit by train like trying different things and you know it’s not a loaded field. So I don’t know maybe that’s kind of where he was trying to go with it. Also Ian you’ve held that Rory Mroy impression from us for months now and all of a sudden you whip it out. It’s not a material, but I’d give like B minus material, especially out of nowhere. That was pretty good. And then back to the Ben Griffin, your point about him and his RDER Cup play. That’s your long- winded response to Big Dick Rick coming for his spot on the RDER Cup team. This is where it start. God. Yeah. Yeah. Straight up. I’m on to you. Straight up. I I think I think this is this is how you show who who can [ __ ] nut up and and be there and who wants to be there. And I Jordan, I get it. Like, okay, you’re trying a few things here and there for the rest of the season. I don’t want you to be trying things middle of the season. What the [ __ ] are you doing, man? Right before the open. Right before the open. Yeah. And do you who the [ __ ] do you think you are making a midseason change having one of the seasons of your entire career? Like no. He’s in the pole position on the tri bet and he pulls that [ __ ] on Friday. Yeah. And you pulled that [ __ ] on me on the 4th of July on Independence Day. Our four didn’t fight for that. No less. You find his Venmo and ask for your 10 bucks. This isn’t this this is no this is not No, this isn’t a British like keep what is it? keep calm and carry on. Like, you [ __ ] put the pedal to the metal, dude. You do what you’re doing and you keep [ __ ] going. Like, I don’t like you made six birdies. You made six birdies on the first on the first 16 holes and then you bogey and double bogey the last two holes. You You just hit a [ __ ] iron. Just hit an iron both on number eight and number nine. That’s it. And you’re done. For the record, I agree with you. I was just proposing an alternative solution. No, I I I don’t disagree. And if that’s the headsp space that he’s in, he’s a [ __ ] nut job. This is nut absolute nut job. Hey, maybe maybe that’s what we need on the Ryder Cup team to get into the European’s head. Maybe we just need him to just sling one off the TV. Magic band. Yeah, Ben Griffin, do not trigger your direct messages to or your Venmo notifications. Oh god, man. No, I just you’re you’re playing so well. You’re you’re steady a I mean [ __ ] your your signature look is are aviators, man. Somebody who’s wearing aviators isn’t on the golf course isn’t changing their swing middle of the season. Like that’s just not that’s not what you do. I I don’t know. It’s enough for me. I’m off him for now, but like I know you’re on you’re on big dick, Rick. We know that. Yeah, 100%. 100%. Speaking of direct messages, who do who do we have to direct message for our DFL award? Uh that would be Ryan Palmer. Ryan, Mr. Palmer Palmer coming for you. Look out for us. He finished nine over. came in dead last. I also think I have to give a slight shout out front of the pod AJ who loves Chris Kirk. He started 6768 and then decided to shoot a sweet 79 on Saturday. That’s crazy. See, and for me, I’d rather see there I would have rather Ben Griffin gone out Jordan to your point. I would have rather him done that. Like shoot a great shoot a great shoot a great on Thursday and Friday and then Saturday if you want to try some [ __ ] while you’re in contention. Cool. All right. I get it. You’ve made the weekend. You’ve proved the naysayers wrong. You’ve made another cut to put on your to put on your record. Yeah. Uh but yeah, poor poor poor Kirk and I know he’s got a lot of demons. I think it’s important for the people who aren’t necessarily watching and just listening. Ian did start with the jacket and that’s been removed. I feel like the shirt is about to be next. Dude, I’m [ __ ] I’m [ __ ] hot. I’m heated, bro. I’m [ __ ] heated right now. That is true. Go turn around and put that fan on behind. You kind of You kind of see the like I had the vein going. Yeah, there you go. We got the vein going right now. [ __ ] Blood pressure through the roof. All right. Well, I guess I’m just gonna say this. Ian, any final thoughts for the John Deere? Do you have any other demons you would like to let out? Round four. I thought it was I thought it was a great honestly I thought it was a great tournament. I love the finishing holes. Uh just remove Ben Griffin from from the conversation and it was a great tournament. Yeah, get him the [ __ ] out of there. Uh no, I I I thought I think I thought it was great. Uh a great finish. What I would have loved to see like we’ve talked about in that playoff. I I do think he would have had a chance. Love I love his move at the ball. Something I I try to imitate as well. that little out to in baby baby fade. But yeah, it’s it’s a it was a good tournament. All right. Well, we’ll quickly talk about it since we brought it up quite a few times. Specifically Ian on Ryder Cup. Um right now top six for the US is Scotty, Xander, JJ, Russell, Henley, Bryson, and JT. And then and then 7 through 12 right now is Colin Ian’s favorite golfer Ben Griffin Keegan good old captain Harris English is number 10. Top Gun is 11 and Brian Harmon is number 12. Oh man. Yikes. I’ve been saying it for weeks. The back end of that roster scary. It’s not the [ __ ] out of me. It’s not good. It’s like it’s it’s a front-loaded NBA roster where you have your mega deals at the first, you know, top three or four, pretty good through six, and then you got mid veteran minimums 7 through 12. Uh the back end of the roster there. I just for the begging for the piece of play gods to not let Brian Harmon on that roster, man. Well, what I’m trying to figure out is who in that like seven to even I think maybe 15 or 16th spot, if they play well and even possibly win the open, does that catapult them? Like we saw JJ go up. Does that catapult them into the top six, then JT’s out or Bryson’s out? What does that look like? Everyone but Brian Har. Great. Just to go with that one. But I I need a quick reminder. The top six automatically qualifying points and then seven through 12 are captain’s picks. Yeah. Okay. So, give me give us No, those are just choices. Yeah. Anytime any top six automatically in the captain can choose whoever else he wants after that. Yeah. So, give us like Do you still have the list? So, give us like 13 14 15. Dude, do you really want that? Yeah, I kind of do. Yeah. All right. Number 13, Andrew Novak. Yeah. 14ley. Iceman. I’m okay with that pick. I think I’m okay with that also. Yeah. 15 Sam Burns. He 15 Sam Burns. Yeah, Kentley’s Canley’s got a Canley has a great record in the R Cup already. So, um and he’s he’s had some he’s had some staple moments and big and big moments, right? Making making some big putts and hitting some big shots. Yeah. He’s like he’s like the the quiet guy that doesn’t really have the reactions that you would want, especially at like a place like Beth Paige being on US soil this year, but like he can just get it done. Yep. Yeah. But the man could put the ball in Yeah. I don’t know. Yeah, I think he’s worth the pick. I got to be honest. So, number 16, Lucas Glover. 17 Cameron Young. He’s a tough one for me because I’ve I’ve two straight I’ve seen him play well. You’ve seen him play well in streaks, but I don’t know if he has the consistency that we’re looking for in those big moments just from his record alone. Brian Campbell with his win jumped up to 28. Okay. Right where right where he should be. Yeah, he he actually just is past JT Poston and that’s where he should be as well. You’ve got two you got two guys right next to each other just just a bit farther down the list. Um, we just we just need to avoid Windom doing something stupid at the open like playing well at the open. Yeah. Michael Kim and Jordan Speed at number 24 and 25 spots. Yeah, Michael Kim’s ahead. Spaith spa. Jordan Spaith. Do we know how many points they get for a win? Is it the same as a FedEx? So to keep it even? I don’t know. But then you have world world different events. I don’t know. I don’t know. I think Speed’s going to have a hard time getting on this team as a captain spec. Just got to be honest. Mhm. You got 6,000. Oh, the point bucket,000 points. One point per thousand earned. Okay. So, while Eric’s looking that up, I just speaking of rosters, don’t just here’s here’s the top 12 for Europe. We talk about front end versus backend tier. Rory number one for Europe. He’s the auto qualifier. Here’s their Scotty. Number two is Tommy Fleet. Number three, Tierel Hatton. Number four, Bobby McIntyre. Five is Shane Lowry. Six, Sept Straka. Those are the top six. Second six, Asmus Hogard, the Vic number eight, Justin Rose at nine, Big Dick, Vic Havlin number 10, Thomas Dietri at 11, Matt Wallace at 12. The back end of that roster cooks the back end of America’s roster. And it’s not even close. Not even close. Not even close. You got Lvig and Big Dick Vic in the back end there and Rosie. And Rosie. Yeah, that’s a 300 monster roster monster right there. Those are those are all guys from from 232. But you got to know I know that the guy who’s going to be picked no matter what at number 19, John Rum. Correct. Yeah, we haven’t talked about correct. Yeah. What are we even talking about here? He’s on that roster. Knock out. Right. Right. There’s He’s no doubt on that roster. Uh the only reason why he’s so so much farther quoteunquote down down in the rankings is because he’s on live. Uh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He’s definitely making it. Um, is there anyone else that we’re missing from Europe that’s on live that’s usually a stalwart and then forget I wasn’t He’s not on He’s not on live, but one guy that stuck out to me of how low he was, he’s number 30 was Matty Fitz. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Huh. Kind of lost his game a little bit. Yeah. On a on a course like like Beth Paige Black, I don’t know how well I don’t know there. Yeah. I mean, he hasn’t been driving the ball well. Sorry. Go ahead, John. No, I was gonna say we got he’s got some time to make some waves, but not a lot. I mean, he’s got to do well this week, he’s got to do well next week. Two huge events for a lot of people. Does Brooks have an invite to the Open? I believe so. I would love to see him play well. Yeah. Yeah. He’s got auto invites for the next after the PGA in 23. Kind of like auto. You kind of want to see Brooks play well to kind of solidify that captain’s pick. Well, maybe just to make it to make the conversation interesting. You know, if you put Brooks there and then you just put his name next to Brian Harmon or any of those kind of guys, you know, the casual fan is going to want Brooks. So, it’s going to create a conversation and I think I think right now we need to be having that conversation. Yeah. No, he’s right. My point. Yeah. I mean, we need a little bit more. I mean, Brooks has been just dreadful this year, even on Liv. Yeah, he’s been awful. But I think for team team USA, Ritter Cup, the whole thing, the lore of the event. I guess what I’m looking for as a more casual fan, I’m looking for juice. I want the excitement. I want the I want to be fired up. Like, you know, I want the fist pumps. I want the roars. Brooks gives that to me. I’m sorry, Brian Harman. No disrespect. You’re a good golfer, but you don’t get me jazzed up. You You’re not getting me fired up like someone Brooks can. Go. There you go. Yeah. Another thing I’m Another thing I’m noticing too is if you take a look you take a look at the total points for the US team rankings versus the Europe team rankings. In theory, this should be a blowout no matter what. like the the amount of points when you get outside of even the top even the top uh let’s say top six top six or seven for the team uh Europe team you’re talking about they’re in the Europe team Europe’s in the low thousands versus the US which our our US players in the low thousands you’d have to go all the way down to a rank of Gary Woodland at 46 who as within the low thousands uh within uh 1,878 uh points. So, you’re talking about our top 46 players have more points. Every single one of them have more points than anyone out anyone outside of their team Europe’s top six qualifying players. This should be a blowout. This should no doubt be a blowout from if it’s just from a points perspective, but as we all know, that’s not the case. Interesting. Aren’t isn’t it a little different different process between how the US ranks it versus how team Europe ranks it? It’s all money one. Well, that wouldn’t make any sense then because Rory’s got 3,000 points. This guy’s got 12,000. There’s not that much of a delta in how much money they made. There’s no way there’s 9,000. You know what I mean? This guy’s won the most. But, you know, I think that there’s there’s got to be like depending on how they rank them, to Eric’s point, I think it’s a little bit different. If we’re going off that format, I would I would go I mean, I know this is this is another dumb golf rule where they put in, you know, different criteria for points and stuff, but based on like world golf rankings, I think all look at um the 12 in in Europe right here, I’d venture to say 10 of the 12 are in the top 50 in the world right now. Um, I don’t know where Thomas Dietri and Matt Wallace are at, but I can’t imagine they’re further outside the top 50. Yeah. No, that’s that’s fair. Yeah, maybe they maybe they have different point systems for uh for Europe for the Euro tour for DP, but I know that DP makes a lot less money. So, yeah, I don’t know. Potentially, but in either case, yeah, I concerning to say the least that we But I’m hoping Keegan makes the right choices. I’m still interested to see what Keegan says about potentially picking himself. Uh, but I will say though, exciting play. I think he’s already already make a a great pick with uh the news we got late last week of Gary Woodland being named a vice captain. Yeah, great pick. Great decision. I mean, you want to I think he should amend his statement. I don’t think JJ Spawn is the heartbeat. Gary’s gonna get a heartbeat. Oh, yeah. Agreed. Yeah, agreed. Yeah, 100%. And he’s he vibes well with everyone on that on tour. He’s one of the better we like guys. Um, yeah. You know, and I think people are, you know, he’s he’s had a hell of a battle with his health the last couple years and they it’s going to resonate with that team. They’re going to listen to him and, you know, he’s they’ve the team the US team’s done like pods last couple of RDER Cups and, you know, they’ve had vice captains and, you know, it’s like three or four guys the pod. Um, so I think that’s going to he’s going to be a good pod leader and just a good good uh good locker room guy for sure. Um, you know, which whichever that means in golf like some changing room at the Ritz in [ __ ] New York where they’re going to be or whatever it is. Um, hey, as long as Windom’s not in that locker room for multiple reasons. Leave your clubs in the car. Windom is not allowed in the locker room. All right, before we get to the um the Scottish Open, there’s being an FSU pod, I have to give a shout out. Our FSU golfer, Lahi Wde, dominated the Irish Open, won by six shots. Go Lahi. Heck yeah. Lah, I mean, we’re we’re a golf school now. I mean, last week we got the news of the top junior coming in. Ly’s winning. May maybe maybe Brooks wins next week, you know, or Daniel Burger. I mean, or Burger. Burgers. Yeah, that’s true. Never know. Or Luke just as Or I’ll say I’ll say as somebody somebody about to have their first first kid who happens to be a girl. I’m I’m super excited to see not only women’s golf, but also Florida State women’s golf be doing so well. It’s awesome. Awesome to have uh awesome to have some role model for for coming up. So great to see. Hopefully she keeps it up. There was one thing I saw this I thought this was an interesting question. So it’s you can have a million dollars now. Yes. Or you play against prime Tiger Woods for 72 holes. And if you beat him on just one of those holes, you get $100 million. But if you don’t beat him on any hole, you go to jail for one year. Can’t I can’t emphasize enough how much I don’t want to go to jail. Like it’s one of the things like it’s like one of the things I think about like a lot and like I Why do you think about it so much? Jordan, what are you doing? Because I know like I won’t make it. Like I just know that about myself. So you’re going to offer me a million dollars or likely jail? Like this is not a question for me. Do you have something to tell us, Jordan? Uh the only thing I’ll say the only thing I’ll say is uh it would depend on the course. Interesting. No, no way. What? No, no. I’m serious. Like, if it’s part three, if it’s a part three course, I think I might be able to stick one closer. It’s not a par three course. Come on. There were no stipulations. I don’t know. Like, are we talking PGA Tour regulation type [ __ ] You’re playing four rounds at Orange County National. The two, the Panther, whatever those courses are. Two at each team, 72 holes, par 72. Go. And I had to And you have to beat him. You can’t tie. You got to beat him on one hole. On one hole. One has 72. So, you’re just gonna hope that he OB’s a drive and you par and he bogeies it or something like that. And there’s no way. Prime prime Tiger though, buddy. Who was beating everybody? Tiger. No. No chance. No. The only way you have a chance is if you stick it close enough on a part three. Yeah. Uh I I don’t want to go to jail. Ian’s like, I would take that bet tomorrow with Tiger with one leg and one Achilles, you know, 100%. He’s like, I’ll see a medalist tomorrow. I can I can nip you for one hole. Yeah. Let’s go. Ian, what what if we switch Tiger Woods out with Ben Griffin? Then would you take that 100% in a in a heartbeat in a [ __ ] Here’s the thing. Ian’s going to jail. Ian’s going to jail either way because he’s going to assault him on site. Yeah. For ruining the tribe bet on behalf of all of us. Means like son of a biscuit eater, man. 18. So anyway, two holes, man. Two holes. That’s all you needed. All right. So, we’re all pretty much in agreement. We’re all taking the million dollars and just walking away. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, man. I just want to make sure. Yeah. Nob brainer question. Then we will put that million dollars on a tribe bet, right? Because obviously we’re very well. Well, then I’d go put that million dollars on Tiger Woods to win his next tournament. Now I’m obviously alive at this point playing against Tiger Woods in his hating, which means I’m in 2,000. So I’m putting all that money on Tiger Whit. I mean, the smart the smart thing to do would put like 500,000 on a tri bet and another 500,000 like towards the pod. All right. Sure. 500,000 playoff golf. There you go. Getting all that. All right. So, we got Genesis Scottish Open this week. There is another PJ tour event for those that suck basically. I mean, I there’s there’s one guy in the top 100 in the Isco Championship and he’s like 98th. So, you want to talk about that field? Yeah. Ride him. But like Jordan said earlier, will be nice to see all the big names back in prime time. Kind of the the start up to the open next week. I’m always interested to see how some of these US guys play because I know they go over there specifically just to get accustomed to everything over there. Just quickly looking at some of the odds for top 20 besides Sheffler. You got Xander and Colin up there and JT which I was a little surprised about. Yeah. How is he plus 350 to win overseas? He’s just I mean he’s never you know he’s never won a British. He’s never this guy’s never won this. He doesn’t play the best over on European soil. We’re throwing 350 on him. Plus 350 seems a bit insane. I’m I’m I’ll be the first one to say I’m fading Scotty this week. Um you can use that clip if you you know obviously now that I put this out into the universe he’s going to win by at least five this weekend the entire bank throwing my entire bank roll on Scotty. I just I don’t see it. I’m fading him. I don’t see John Rom here. Was he playing in the Isco? Oh, hold on. Hold on. I He’s not allowed to play golf. I think Liv Golf has a tournament this weekend. Mhm. I’m trying to Of course there’s live. Yo, Google doesn’t like Liv. Uh, never. Yep, that’s this week. Golf, it’s in Spain. So, yeah, it’s live golf and starts on home turf. Home turf. Spain. Yep. So, that would answer your question. No hat. No wrong. Yeah, it’s just for this. This is just for the Scottish. So, I think those guys will all be a lot of them will be in the British next uh next week. Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha. Um, let’s see here. Sorry. Yeah, I think Ro I mean I would much rather take Rory this week than than Scotty. Rory won here two years ago with that um insane 72nd hole. Hit a three iron into some insane wind from like 200 yards out. He hit a little bullet to like six feet um to win. Yeah, but what is the mental status of Rory currently? Well, not only Ian, do you have any updates on the you know the divorce papers? Haven’t you following his wife or ex-wife on Instagram to get the You are a wag course. I am. I am. No, no news. No news yet. No news yet. People in US Weekly haven’t reported anything. So, haven’t reached out for comment yet. Nothing yet. How do you say her last name? Balance. She’s She’s been looking a lot happier. That’s all I’m going to say. I think you’re on to something there, JC. You never know. We don’t This is uh We don’t usually get into salacious rumors. Yeah. Round two. Here we are. Here we are. Why is Windham 65 to one this weekend? Can we not talk about him? I mean, time out. Time out. Time out. Time out. What are the odds on him not making the cut? I will empty the bankroll on that. I don’t I don’t see a a make or miss cut. Yeah, I don’t see it either. [ __ ] royal tour. Next next week hammering Windham to miss the cut. Yeah, we can get plus 350 right now. Will there be a playoff for the on It’s on a different continent. Is that the tri bet? Is that the tri bet this week, which is for for go top 20. We just put all on playoff goal. Bonus bonus bet. Wait, I do have against it. So, I have people to make or miss the cut, but I don’t have Lindam. Okay. And get plus 475 for Scotty to miss the cut. Interesting. You get better odds for him to miss the cut. I’m intrigued. I’m intrigued. came very very very close with him and Aari at uh remember it was Oakmont or PGA forget what it was very close very very close we might have to run that one back looking at the uh results from last year at the Scottish Bobby Mack won Adam Scott came in second John your boy Aaron Ry came tied fourth hey you’re getting you’re jumping the gun there people I’m uh about to mention put my hardearned money on I kind of like Bobby M this me too but I don’t know 30 plus 3250 I’m seeing um what’s golf But I don’t know what DraftKings says in that. All right. You want to want to start off with uh Yeah. Wait, give us give us some more give us some more results from last year that I was interested in that. Last year, let’s see. Colin finished T4. Galed finished T4. Rory finished T4. Ludvig finished T4. Jesus, there’s a lot of T4s here. The winner shot 18 under. That’s crazy. Okay. Um, let’s see who else here. Some Brian Harmon finished top 20. And for God’s sakes, Renaissance Club. Where the hell is that? I’m looking up the weather because, you know, Ben Griffin made the cut. Hey, talk to me. Don’t even talk to me. That’s good. Yeah, the the weather weather report could be a good thing to know, John. I’m looking it up here. North Berwick, Scotland weather. Ricky Fowler did not make the cut. That tracks, it’s okay. Not this time. Interesting. Okay, so it looks like Thursday, fairly windy but sunny. High of 68. Friday, not as windy. High of 68. Saturday, not as windy. These are pretty benign conditions. I don’t see the wind getting above 13 to 15 miles an hour, which for there is nothing. Um, no rain no rain in the fair so far. So, this could be another pretty low tournament. All right. I mean, yeah, if there was ever a time to put some money on will there be a playoff, this would be it. I’m probably going to do it. We’ve been talking about too much now. Now that I’m finally ready to pull the trigger, someone’s going to win by five. Yeah, for real. All right. Who wants to kick us off? Tribe first. Yeah, first. Tribe first. I want to go last cuz I’m least I’m the least of the group here. I’m going to go last. You guys figure it out cuz this is that’s only fair. I just I just want to throw something out here for this tribe that let’s try to win it this week. Oh, that’s a good one. Okay. Okay, all right. Okay. I think that’s that’s what we’ve been missing the first 13 episodes. Son of a [ __ ] That’s what we [ __ ] up. That’s what we [ __ ] up. You just you decided to tell us this information now. I’m a slow learner. I am a slow learner. Between Ian’s Rory impression and this groundbreaking news. I mean, this just this is just a really there’s been a lot going on in this episode. I’ll leave. Yeah, go ahead. Go ahead. We just talked about him. He’s he’s in a RDER Cup position right now. I think he’s playing well. I’m going with Seth. All right. All right. Okay. All right. I’ll go. I I like where I like where he’s at in the rankings. I like uh I like what I’m seeing so far during the season. I got to go big dick Vic. Go Victor. Victor Hofflin. Emotion to only have one big dick in our in our podcast episode. Big dick Rick. Big dick Vic. We’re talking a lot about dicks. Lot of dicks. Ian’s divers Ian’s diversifying his portfolio. He’s got one American and one European. Yeah, you got to have hoses in different continental codes. There you go. Nailed it. Area codes. No, codes would have been too simple. Come on, Dor. All right. I was going to take the All right. Give me Bobby Mack. Thought you were going to take Bobby Mac. Yeah, you you said Bobby Mac the entire time. That’s the reason why I did Bobby. That was going to be a spirit bet. You ruined everything. No, Seth was actually going to be my spirit bet. But that’s all right, B. I like where Berg’s at though. He’s trying to win the bet. He’s following with this new information your orders. Yes. In the spirit with this new information. In the spirit of trying to win the bet was since April whenever this this little adventure of ours started, I have not been trying to win. Three months in. I’m going to go with Adam Scott. Good choice. I like it choice. All right, we’re at uh $446.99 if this hits. Only takes one, baby. Good luck. All right, on to the spear bets. I’m also dead. I’m also DFL. So, here I am. I’m on the pot for that one. So, I’ll go last again. All right. Who’s that? Jordan. I was I was honestly I was going to take Se. So, I’m coming up with a plan B. So, you can go bey. All right. Well, think I think he’s playing well enough to to keep up uh to keep up his streak. I’m I’m going to go Brian Campbell. Interesting. He’s a he’s a bit of a long shot, but I like the I like that the lower ball flight off the tea for him. I think that’s that’s gonna play well overseas. Putted really well. Uh, and hit the hit the conservative shots when he needed to, right? And that’s what I like. And he conserved his energy, too. The whole choice of the whole choice of not going to hit range balls to stay warm versus taking a break, taking a breather. I think from a strategy perspective, whether it was just to [ __ ] with Aguilo or not, was a was an incredible play and it ended up paying off. So, I like his odds. He’s at plus 700 by the way on hard rock. So Ian, before we go on, and I hope that I’m wrong. Really, really hope I’m wrong because I want everyone to be successful in this pod. I hate that pick. Has he ever played this course? Has he ever played this tournament? He’s flying from [ __ ] middle of nowhere, Silvas, Illinois, across the pond. He’s going to have 20 minutes to get ready playing this tournament. But hey, it’s for the Spirit. So, good luck. Thank you. Thank you, John. I appreciate the vote of confidence and I look forward to uh making you eat those words on the next I literally just said I hope I’m wrong because I want everyone and I hope that my my reverse psychology is helping you out. I that that makes honestly it makes me feel better about my pick. That’s what I’m here for. This is why I get paid no dollars for the lovely gate. Let’s go. That’s right. Jordan, you still looking? How many tabs you got open over there? Come on. Jesus, you’re you’re starting to sound like E. God, I’ll make a pick. He finished just outside of top 20 at the US Open. So, he has it in him. I’m going to take Thomas Dietri. Nice. Okay. I was looking at him. I like it. Is that how you’re looking at him? I was looking at him. He’s just to the left of him here on FanDuel. I’m taking Rasmus Holy Guard. How’s Hoygard back in play? Back and play. How’s Hoy? For honor, for country, for HBO ratings. Come on. How good? He finished one stroke outside of the top 10. top 20 when I picked him. My tribe or spear bet is this. This guy carried me. It’s my M’s pool win back in April. He is the Canadian closer Corey Connors. I’m going to go with him. Steady Eddie. Get that 164 ball speed out there, brother. And just hit some greens, hit some fairways, stay in it. Well, everything that you just said, I was going to take JJ spawn, but I don’t know. I don’t know how his games how his game’s going to play over there. Be a good test for him before the open. I think this is his first British Open that he’s ever played in. Could be wrong. JJ’s spot. Eric’s looking it up. I’m not. I’m seeing if Luke Clinton’s playing in the open. Okay. Well, he’s playing this week. Yeah, he he did. He won it. He He got a exemption into it by winning the Mark H. McCormick medal as a world top ranked amateur golfer. Good for you, Luke. The first thing that comes up says that JJ Spawn is not scheduled to play in the British Open. I think he’s going to be there. Yeah, I’m pretty sure. Pretty sure he’s gonna be there as well. Where did Where did you read that? What’s your source? I found Ian’s there. It’s been [ __ ] Hey. Yeah. No. All right. Any final thoughts on Scottish Ian? Do you have any more thoughts on Ben Griffin that you want to release? Okay. Good. He got it. He got it out. That was therapeutic. I hope you uh you feel a little bit better. It was It was I I feel a lot better now. Thank you. That’s what we’re here for. Part of the reason why we’re here. Just parts on Ryan Palmer. Or or did we just did we just let him off the hook? We we we we gave him the award. Yeah, he gets an award. We’re going to get him on the pod. He’ll tell him. Well, he’ll tell him ourselves. We just have to make a mention of it. You know, that’s that’s really all it is. And you know, Paul Barjon happens again this weekend. We’ll make a mention of it next week. You know, we just got to see what happens. Start just got to start tagging them. Yeah. When we when we post clips. But as Jordan as Jordan said, we’re going to win this week because we’re going to try. We’re trying for once. It’s been 12 13. I’m going to try, right? I just don’t think we really had a strategy up until now. And now that we do, more money, baby. Like we like we’ve been saying since the beginning, once we hit one, shit’s about to pop off. Never going to miss. Never going to miss again. Jordan sounds like an assistant coach on like one of those really bad Browns teams. They’re like 0 and 12. And then week 13, he rolls in and he’s like, you know, guys, let’s try and win this week. Everyone’s like, yeah, that’s it. Johnny Manzo is not that good. We don’t want the number one pick. Oh, that was good, man. All right. Well, on that note, that that does it for this week’s episode. Everyone enjoy the Scottish Open.
