[Music] [Applause] [Music] Hey, hey, hey. [Music] Welcome back to the Lynx Golf Club podcast everybody. Your weekly dose of golf news, club news, golf talk, whatever else we feel like covering honestly. Gregory, I’m Gregory and I’m joined as always by Cooper and Chris. Uh this week, Reversing Spay Bay video is live. We got some interesting things to talk about on the announcement front uh from Mr. Bruce over there. And uh we got, you know, some other big announcements to talk about, but also as always sort of what’s happening in golf this week and then we’re going to we’re going to sort of talk about some other things at the end. A little bit of summer golf news, look at where our games are. Anything kind of that comes up. But gentlemen, most importantly, want to make sure that you all get in here, come join me. Cooper, Chris, how you all feeling right now? Feeling good. Yeah. Uh summer golf is in full swing, right? It’s been hot out there. Uh but definitely uh good times in links in golf. Um excited about what’s happening in Scotland right now. Uh big fans got the Scottish Open and then going into the Open uh at Port Rush. We got a lot of lot of good stuff on the horizon. Chris, how are you doing? Great, man. Yeah, Scottish golf season, coffee golf season, hot golf season over here. Greg’s on the run. He’s in a remote location. He’s uh you know, who knows where Greg is right now. You know, man of mystery over there. Feeling good, man. Feeling good. Sweet. Well, uh it’s good to see you both. And uh it’s good to see all the folks in chat. But uh let’s just dispense with the formalities and stop wasting time. We got some important stuff to announce, important stuff to talk about. Chris, I’m going to pass it over to you. Uh why don’t you tell the people uh what we got going on? Yeah. Well, maybe maybe first off with a question. What uh how much money do you guys think you have paid spent on playing golf so far this year? What’s your what’s your best guess? I mean, it’s in the thousand or if it’s too embarrassing to say, you know. Uh yeah, lots. Lots. Um my my fiance listens to this, so I’m not going to give you an exact number, but uh definitely a lot. Good. Yeah. Yes. Yes. Smart. Smart. But I wouldn’t say it’s too much. Spent the most on flowers and jewelry. Massage. Like chocolate. Yeah. Everything else and then golf is fifth or sixth probably. Yeah. Um Yeah. I mean, I definitely feel like I’ve spent more on golf than I’ve gotten back. Uh is is kind of one way to put it, Chris. I think the game giveth and it taketh away. Yeah. Yeah. Well, uh, now imagine what if you could turn all of that spend into Bitcoin, Ethereum, Salana, or other other crypto in your portfolio. Would that be a good thing? I mean, you can do it a little bit. You post some links league scores, you get links in your portfolio. You do other things in the links ecosystem, you get links in your portfolio. But, uh, it’s always good to to do a little more of that. Yeah, I would say that’s impossible. There’s no way that something like that can possibly exist in this year of our Lord 2025. Chris, uh, yeah, I’d say like I wish we had it, but we don’t. So, I’d take that deal if if if it something like that existed. Yeah. Well, I have something you might be interested in. Today, we have a new partner and a a new sponsor to announce. Our first ever sponsor of the Linkst podcast. So, without further ado, today’s podcast is sponsored by the Gemini credit card, the only instant crypto rewards credit card in the market and hands down one of the best credit cards if you love golf. So, you all may have seen it, you know, seen uh seen it out in the marketplace. It’s a pretty great card just in general, right? You get up to 4% back on all sorts of spend categories in old hard crypto. Uh, and you even get a $200 signup bonus uh when you sign up for the card. But this summer, Gemini is giving 10% back in crypto on all golf golf course transactions up to $250 and spend a month until September 30th. So, just to repeat, 10% back on golf up to 250 in spend a month until September on this card 30th on that card right there. Wow. That very one. Uh so for our Link style members, that’s a pretty good thing. Our our members tend to like golf, they tend to like crypto. So we are very excited about this uh you know this partnership and this sponsorship. Uh so just just to talk a little more about it, that means you know greens fees you’re you’re paying when you go to play, even your monthly dues. If you’re a member somewhere and you’re paying monthly dues and putting them on credit card uh where wherever you’re paying at the golf course, you’re getting up to 10% back from the Gemini credit card. And for Linkstyle, that includes spend on a Hillrest membership, spend on a Spay Bay membership, any Linkst events, right? We’ve got a few spots still available at Tree Farm coming up later this year for what is going to be an epic two-day, one night stay. You get that with your Gemini credit card. You’re getting up to 10% back on uh the first 250 of spend every month until September 30th. So, pretty awesome deal. The the card is great. Like you we’ve been using it for for, you know, a few weeks or months now. Uh trying it out. You get you earn crypto back instantly. Have you guys noticed this? Uh Coupe, have you or Greg, have you guys bought anything and then like gone to look at the app? It’s crazy. I mean, you swipe the card, you open the app, and it’s it’s right there. There’s no like waiting period or delay. It the rewards show up instantly. Um, no. I mean, since we figured out we were doing this and I got this card in my wallet, it instantly was on my Apple Pay when I signed up. It was like, “Do you want to add this to your your wallet?” So, I could tap it before the card even showed up. Showed up really fast. Uh, but yeah, every time I used it, I’m like made it my default over my MX on my wallet instantly and I’m like, boom, golf, crypto, all my purchases with this. It was uh it’s been really cool to see. Yeah, I have to say it was pretty wild the first time I used it. I, you know, got it in the mail, bought something off of Amazon or, you know, I guess even from Apple Pay, bought something on Amazon or or somewhere, open the app and all of a sudden there’s, you know, Bitcoin in my wallet instantly. It was pretty wild. Uh, and pretty cool to see. So, you know, the app’s pretty pretty slick. Card has been great so far. I I have to say personally uh like I was a lifelong I guess you could call like a travel rewards credit card maxi like I I worked in the travel industry. I was a consultant for a long time. So like I was doing the whole thing, right? I had airline credit card, hotel credit card, you know, doing the status rat race, uh earning miles and points and all that stuff. But I have to say like just over the past few weeks as we’ve you know started using this and you know obviously been talking with the Gemini folks I’m like completely converted. Uh part of me is like why did why did I not do this sooner? Uh because you know it’s always frustrating like earn a bunch of miles or points right and then you go to use them and oh you know there’s blackout dates or oh you know the flight I want to get for Thanksgiving or whatever’s crazy high price or you know uh and I mean let’s face it like points or miles they they get devalued over time but like with this card you’re getting currency crypto back immediately immediate and transparent value And like Bitcoin reward orders earned and held for one year on the Gemini credit card have appreciated 1706 176% on average, right? It’s like the opposite of getting devalued over time. So that’s pretty awesome. You know, part of me is like thinking back, man, all of those airline miles, if those had been Bitcoin or ETH or Salana over that time period, uh my portfolio would be looking different, but you know, no better time than the present uh to make things right. Uh so, we’ve already talked about real-time rewards are incredible apps apps really slick. And as a golfer, I mean, it’s pretty obvious, right? It should be a a no-brainer. $200 for signing up, 10% back on golf course spend up to 250 a month. And um great way to to enhance your crypto portfolio. So it is a showcard. I got the black one. Didn’t go for orange. Got the black one. But um can you show us the number on that one? Just, you know, flip it over. You know, it’s actually great. They don’t show a number. I can I can flip this thing around. You know what? You can’t you can’t scam me, Greg. But, uh, it is a world. I love also I love that it’s a metal card. There’s just nothing better than like just the heft of it. It also came really quickly, but you can start using it immediately. Like Cooper said, like even you don’t have the card, you can use immediately on Apple Pay. Uh, and they ship you the card and good to go from there. Yeah, I’m not going to feel as bad about buying the pro shop balls at the golf course now when, you know, I know I’m getting money back. So, you know, obviously going to try not to lose them, but might shell out for uh some premium balls uh and do that rather than going with some refurbished online with this. I think uh yeah, I mean, it it just makes so much sense. And shout out to Gemini for for thinking of us for this and thinking of golfers, right? Um, definitely a cool addition to the suite of crypto and golf benefits that you get here with Linkstyle. And now anything you want to buy, we were talking in chat earlier, getting a new pair of shoes, even they’re on discount, right? You’re still getting um, you know, rewards and and percentage back in in crypto for all of your purchases, right? But especially at at your golf courses and golf clubs, munis, and everything else. So, um, yeah, just super cool to see this intersection and adding more crypto to the portfolio at with every swipe. Yeah, we’re really excited about this one. You know, we’ve gotten to know the Gemini team. We have some, you know, some link style members and fans uh at at Gemini already, which seems like we have them everywhere. We are we’re always meeting folks throughout the world. Uh, and they always pop up. But, uh, they’ve been great to work with. We’ve got some other stuff in the works for the future. So, we’ll see uh you know, we’ll see what else we may have to announce in the future. But really excited about what they have going for golfers and specifically for Linkstyle members this summer. So, to sign up, uh you know, we dropped the link in the in the comments here, but to sign up, go to gemini.comlinkstall. That’s gem m i ni.coml nk ks dao. You can get that $200 uh dollar sign up bonus in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Salana, or 50 uh 50 plus other uh cryptocurrencies that Gemini has on the exchange when you spend up to $3,000 in your first 90 days. And you can start earning your 10% back on golf course purchases. you can see if you’re eligible like immediately with no impact to your credit score when you go through the flow. So, that’s that’s pretty nice and you don’t kind of have to worry about that that uh angle. So, click the link or go to gemini.com/linkstyle to apply and start earning instantly and you can see rates and fees in the description for more info. All right, I just want to throw out a question. Hacks, I see your comment. If you already have the Gemini card, can you still sign up and align it with links now? uh never hurts to send their customer service department a message, right? Open up a support ticket with them and say, “Hey, I’m a links member.” You know, I’d love to do that. Um but I don’t think, you know, don’t cancel your card and resign up or anything like that. But, uh definitely shoot them a message and see if that can work out. Um but yeah, stoked to see folks already already getting on it with the uh with the Gemini card. That’s great. For sure. And if you’re an existing member, you will still be able to utilize it uh at golf courses to get your 10% uh in crypto as well. So even if you’re already a Gemini credit card holder, still want you getting paid for golfing. Yes. Nothing wrong with that. Absolutely. All right. So we’re excited about that. First sponsor of the pod, great partner. Some more stuff. I know. It’s crazy. Wild. But uh we’re we’re also excited. I I mentioned it before about you know where uh some other interesting stuff we may do with Gemini in the future. Um great company have been you know pretty pioneering in the crypto space. So another great great brand to be aligned with as Lynx. But without further ado uh shall we keep rolling? Do we have anything else to announce? Coupe do we have anything else to talk about this week? Uh just in terms of rewards for golfing, uh our Lynx League’s summer league, the last date to post scores is July 12th. So uh you’ve got two days. It’s retroactive to the beginning of the league, which I believe started on uh June 1st. So all you do is play four 18ole rounds or eight nine whole rounds during that period. Uh post those scores, you get rewards in Linkscoin. uh set up that. Other than that, folks, uh please watch the latest Spay Bay reversing video. If you’re already on YouTube right now, uh that’s where it’s at. If you’re listening on podcast, check out our YouTube page. We’ve got lots of content there, including the latest from our Scottish course. Um other than that, yeah, sign up for the Gemini card. It’s uh it’s going to be a good time. Cool. Two other just like kind of content announcements. Yes, the like content announcements. on episode four of Building Link style scheduled to drop next Tuesday, July 15th. Uh this one’s great. It’s with Derek Duncan, who is the uh architecture editor at Golf Digest. If you’ve ever consumed any Golf Digest content about a golf course, you’ve probably ran across his work. Some of that might be their top 100 list. He’s quarterback of that. He also participates in their every hole at stuff. Uh it’s wild that he even agreed to come and talk to us, let alone just like such a great conversation that we had. So look out for that on Tuesday. Make sure you’re subscribed. You’ve either added us on Spotify or on Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast. You’ll get notified of that immediately. Obviously, we’ll get the word out there. But it’s one of my honestly, and I like kind of say this every time’s like a running bit. It’s one of my favorite golf conversations I’ve ever had. He talked about wine, talked about music, he talked about golf courses. He’s played everywhere. He thinks deeply about golf courses and he really helps me kind of understand how do golf courses earn their reputation and does that reputation matter? Obviously, that’s something top of mind for all of us at least out. So, do watch that. It’s great. Uh I wish you could mute me and just listen to him, but you got to listen to both of us. It’s a great conversation. Um and then we have some other interesting stuff coming up hopefully in the next couple of weeks with the summer solstice couple whole hike. We’re going to get started on that. uh in the editing room. Uh now that we have the uh reversing fade bay out, which again set you should go watch that if you haven’t. It’s great. Uh let’s talk about just sort of this week in golf news. I mean, first off, just short kings prevailed last week. We talked about the John Deere. I mean, Brian Campbell won what, you know, depending on where you fall, like did you think it was a good end of the tournament or not? I don’t know. I I was pretty fascinated about it. uh you had an opportunity for Homa to get into a playoff. He ended up missing two birdie putts and making that not a reality, but it was good to see him finish strong. Uh and then there was a playoff in which Brian Campbell, who was 141st out of 156 players in the field off the te, he lost a full stroke off the tea, which runs counter to pretty much everything we think about when it comes to distance from the PJ tour, right? He obviously it was not a full field. This was not a signature event, but he drove the ball terribly distance-wise, accuracy-wise. That’s why I call him short king. No offense, come at me. But he gained a full 3.85 throws everywhere else. I mean, and he was number one throws gain for the week. So, just kind of a interesting statistical profile for the winner of a PGA Tour event. And like I said last week, like the John Deere was fun. They put out a lot of social stuff. The course is fine. and it ended up being a tournament that had some good drama at the end. I don’t know if you guys watched it. Any thoughts on the John Deere before we start talking about Link season? I didn’t watch a ton, you know, just had a lot of family stuff going on to be perfectly honest, but it was, you know, it’s kind of proof that you don’t need a full field event to have an exciting finish and to have, you know, like some fun golf to watch. It was, I have to say, I was rooting for at the end. I mean, you know, it’s kind of he’s a easy guy to root for and, you know, was in it. uh you know the last last round and didn’t work out which was a bummer. Uh but you know, cool to see him in contention and you know there there were some big names there. Homa Jason Dave was there. You know there’s not uh not a completely depleted field. So kudos Brian Campbell. Cool to see. And yeah, you’re right. Completely counter to uh to what kind of the narrative you hear about, you know, the way things trending in the game. Um not plugging the stacks this week. We’re’ll talk about that another week. I might just stop using it honestly and just uh what’s the point? You can win the John Deere without it. I did I looked at the data golf maybe just moving on to this week. I looked at the data golf you know the like spider chart for Renaissance Club the the Scottish Open venue this week and it’s it’s kind of hilarious like complete spike on driving distance for importance right relative to a tour event and complete depression on uh driving accuracy. It’s like, yeah, Brian Campbell might might not be rolling again this week. Yeah, it’s like uh you know, in tennis some people are good on clay courts, grass courts, hard courts. Like maybe just I would love to see Brian Campbell like do a like, you know, 1960s Celtics run of John Deere and he just wins like nine of the next 10 just becomes the Bill Russell of uh of off-field events. like like Tiger at the the Buick or whatever he won like every single year. He’s the only person needed to show up. You know, don’t foresee that for Brian Campbell, but you know, who knows? Who knows? With the information we have right now, you can’t lose. We’ll see next year what happens. Maybe that’ll change our minds. Uh all right. Well, we’re going into you said coffee season, coffee golf season. Obviously, you know, we’re going to see some great golf courses, some great events. We’re all very partial to Scotland Golf. And we got two back-to-back events in the UK, which we’re very excited about. We can debate whether or not we want to see Renaissance on TV again and then for the foreseeable future, but obviously like what we got going on in Ireland a week in, you know, in the future after that is going to be a golf course that I think all of us would want to see on TV. But, uh, we got the Scottish Open kicking off this week. Um, in fact, today, uh, you know, speech there, he’s healthy. That’s one storyline. We could talk about whether or not the Lynx Master has what it takes to to surprise us at the Scottish Open. Uh, you know, right now, I I think like the easy choice is is Big Bob McIntyre. You know, I see no reason why not to see him as a as the person that I would both most root for, most want to see win, and who I think has a decent shot. But uh I guess how are we thinking about the Scottish Open? We’re going to talk about the Open, which we’re going to get to Golf X later on. I’m just calling the British Open right now. I don’t care if the RNA comes for me. It’s just way too hard to talk about the Open and have people be like, “Well, you’re talking. It’s the British Open. It’s the Scottish Open. I’m going to zag.” Right? So, we’ll talk about the British Open in the future, but let’s talk the Scottish Open now. What are you looking for? Who do you like? and uh you know, you have enough coffee so you can wake up early and watch these. Brought to you by Kumosas, Monster, and Orange Juice. Um we’ll be having those. Uh I I loved McIntyre’s finish at uh the US Open. Um you know, with the the applause for uh Spawn’s putt, you know, just like Yeah, that was a great finish. So, I mean, couldn’t be a better guy, I think, in the field to to take it home. Good karma. Yeah, great karma. Exactly. just um really solid vibes there. Uh excited to to wake up early and see see these guys. I think I saw um pot ger fired off like a 405 yard drive on the first hole. So speaking of distance, right? Like it’s there if you want it. Um I I mean I I you also have to have the talent to do it. I want it, but I can’t hit it 405. uh like you know 40 yards of roll out I think out there too which we’ve experienced uh you know some of that hard turf and and the way that plays um yeah it’s just going to be a a good tournament. I I’m excited for perhaps the Scottish Open to take on another venue at some point in the future. Um, Renaissance I think is is less challenging um, especially we heard Rory talking about around the greens um, than some of the other options I think you have for this course. And as some folks I know Chris you play Castle Stewart uh, you know, Cabbat Highlands that was a venue heard stories of Mickelson you know firing off stuff on the short par four there from our caddies. so many great venues that I’d like to see in the future that I’m excit I’m stoked to see the Scottish Open, but I’m also uh kind of aware of the the possibil possibilities for future events that um could host this open. It has to get better. I mean, there’s there there’s a there’s a whole like range of golf courses that would be in the ROA not for the ROA being such a traditional thing and a closely guarded thing. Like this should be the second ROA, right? like we should be playing golf courses that we all desire to play when you go to Scotland. And nothing against a Renaissance club, but I I just I don’t know. I I would much rather see what is now obviously, you know, Cabin Highlands again. Like play it at North Burick. I get weird. Like play it at Cullen for all I don’t know. Like play it play it at some interesting places and let’s make it make it strange because we’re not going to see the same Yeah, that’d be great. We’re not going to see the same latitude for the o the British Open. So, let’s see the Scottish Open embrace the uh the the weirdness of Scottish golf. But I Scotty has the highest one for Go ahead. Yeah, I was going to say I kind of get the struggle. I mean, it’s it’s the struggle kind of everywhere with tour venues, right? Like, you know, players hitting it longer, they need to find bigger ballparks. They absolutely, you know, tear apart some courses. And so that you know there’s this constant pressure to you know go to bigger ballparks, go to newer venues that are you know been stretched out and that type of thing. And uh so I you know I get that side of it but yeah completely agree that it is like selfishly it’s a bummer when it goes to the Renaissance Club which is a you know it’s a private uh club that’s very difficult to play versus all of the other great uh publicly accessible Scottish venues that they could play at. So, like Castle Stewart, Cabbat Highlands, uh I think it was Jamie Kennedy posted a a video of Phil Phil hit this like ridiculous uh like full swing flop shot that went, you know, 10 yards and stopped because he had to get over this uh this hump on a green on the third hole at uh Cabbat Highlands at Castle Stewart. And I was in the exact same position like when I played it three weeks ago. Obviously I don’t have the skill to pull off that shot but like seeing stuff like that like you know players of the video I did not play that shot. I played a very different one. Uh you know lame bump and run which is actually a pretty good shot I will say. But it’s it like brings it to another level when they’re playing venues that you’ve played. you can relate to the shots they’re hitting and, you know, especially when there’s these specific venues where, you know, they kind of uniquely can host public play and and people enjoy them and they can also pose a challenge to tour players. Like that’s, you know, that’s the ideal from my perspective. Uh, you know, you can kind of say the same thing with a lot of the US Open venues and everything else, but yeah, would be very excited if if this rotated around a little bit more. saw some other venues that, you know, a bunch of US folks have gone over and played and could get kind of more engaged in in the tournament. I think that would be beneficial for everybody really. Yeah, that’s why like if they’re worried about courses not being long enough, just go the opposite direction and just play Colin and just make it a true test of iron play. Uh, you know, keep the ball on the ground and make him do some stuff. I I don’t know it. The reality is the reality, but I I as a fan, I would like to, especially since I’m going to be waking up so early to watch tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday. I would much prefer to watch a golf course that I am excited about. Yeah. That said though, I I do love this stretch of the year, like the coffee golf stretch, you know, Scottish Open. Yeah. Uh British Open, Irish Open. Uh very cool like to get Yeah. bring it back. Uh, make fetch happen. Uh, but you know, like because you, you know, we get pretty consistent looks and feels, you know, by and large through the PJ tour schedule. Um, and like even if you’re going over and watching a live tournament, it, you know, it’s by and large the same, but you get to get a completely like change of gears, different style of golf, different look of the courses, you know, uh, browned out, lots of wind, you know, people wearing uh, sweaters and long pants in July because it’s, you know, it’s actually chilly out. Uh, it’s fun change of pace. Love it to, you know, just get a little bit uh, different look in the middle of the season. It’s always a fun fun thing. Agreed. Um, speaking I will say though, speaking of Lynx golf, since we’re in, you know, Lynx golf season, we did, you know, we put out the updated Spay Bay video this year, Greg, that was mostly uh your handiwork or a lot of a lot of your work going into it. You want to give us a little like behind the scenes on on, you know, everything that went into the video and all the other stuff that’s going on there? Yeah, I mean, as someone who consumes a lot of golf content, it’s like a really high bar out there, and I, you know, candidly, like, I don’t know if we’re hitting that bar yet. I I don’t know how close we are to that bar. The the the people can can speak to that, but like I think it was really fun to focus on story because I think we have a really great story to tell. We did a discord podium I don’t know like a month maybe a month and a half two months ago whatever and we were talking about um you know from a product standpoint there’s two things there’s the technology but then there’s also sort of like the cultural product of what link is we spent a lot of time and thinking about what our brand should look like and how we tell our story externally and this sort of reflected us trying to do that in a in a a higher quality way better way more sharable way in a more exciting way. And so the video itself was, you know, we call it part one because it really attempted to answer the question, what you know, to anyone, whether that be somebody in the community now who probably knows all the things in the video and they just saw it as sort of a recap or a hype video on what’s been happening in Speed. But I think also importantly something that you can share with someone who might like we’ve always had this issue of just like what is Linkdale? It’s like well this is a great example of what Linkdale is. We got a bunch of strangers on the internet together. We looked at a bunch of golf courses. We found one in Scotland and then together we have started along this journey with one of the world’s best architects to turn this into what we think will be the most interesting golf course in Scotland uh for you to visit. And so for us like we wanted to be able to tell that in a way that within 10 minutes then you’d also be able to share it with someone and let that video do the storytelling itself. And so we wanted to start from you know obviously the moment in which we announced closing on spay bay. We won the bid. We wanted to tell a story about what happened to like understanding the land itself so that we could work with Clayton Deere and Pont to come up with this crazy idea of building a reversible golf course. It’s very unique in Scotland place that you can go and stay as long as you want and play over and over again. And then what is all the hard work that that that Bert and David and the team have done into starting to execute towards that vision. So obviously there was sort of an initial phase of work. You see a lot of great stuff of just like us pulling gor out and us harvesting sand from the uh from the driving range and then you know going to a next step of us actually playing it last year and starting to see how it felt and get a sense of the the sort of vibe of what it would be like to play the holes backwards. And then all the winter work of actually starting to like combine greens and take out some bunkers and and take a lot of that sand and start to hydro seed and fill in the grass from the place where all the course was removed to then people actually being able to see it for the first time in its current state and having the seven poles ready. And you know we have a lot of content. We have a lot of video and and you know shout out to Cooper and Bert who shot some of that stuff when when he was there. We have a lot of drone footage. So, we just wanted to make sure that for anyone who wanted to understand what’s been happening in Spay Bay, we know, we all know because we’ve been following it on social or we’ve been seeing it firsthand, how amazing that place is and how much progress has been made. We just wanted to make sure the world could see that too. And uh it was fun to put it together and, you know, obviously take feedback on, you know, do you like the story? Do you like the way that we tell the story? Like any ideas that you have, we’d love to hear those in Discord. But it’s been uh it’s been exciting to have a chance to be able to tell that story uh through video and I think we’ll keep getting better the more we do it. Yeah, I mean awesome work kind of putting it all together and I’ve been showing some clips while you were chatting. I think the folks who have seen our posts on Instagram or following along for the summer solstice um or the member guests saw a lot of this stuff in its current form, but the story of like how we got here and the decisions that have been made um you know, not just by the advice of CDP or by Bur and David, but also by the community with the winter work plan um to get us to this point are really really interesting and there’s a lot of depth there. So, I think this video kind of shows a lot of that behind the-scenes thinking and not just kind of the end result for folks who show up and play it and kind of see what’s going on. Uh, or, you know, on Seab Bruce’s Instagram with, uh, you know, the closest to the gin with the new Nest hospitality station at that awesome fifth green complex. Um, yeah, I mean, there’s so many cool options and ways to play and enjoy that course now that didn’t exist uh when we took it over. Um, and so yeah, the progress, the team, your work documenting it and, uh, and sharing that story, I think is is really great. So if you haven’t seen it, um, go check it out, share it, drop a comment. Um, we’re really excited for that journey to progress. Yeah. And not to, you know, shout just one quick thing, just like to shout out also the next week’s conversation with Derek Duncan. that’s kind of like spoiling the the plot of that conversation was like when it comes to building a reputation, a top 100 golf course reputation or whatever, like a lot of those courses have built this heritage over time and what makes them special is that they’re so unique and everything else and everyone’s trying to do that some to success and some not. And I think like at the end of the conversation, you know, it was just like Spay Bay is just a really special place and like what makes it unique is this ability when everyone else is just trying to go to like check things off their passport in Scotland and just spend as little time in a place as possible so that they can move to the next place. B is the only golf course in Scotland that I’ve been to that I would just want to spend all day there. We talked about in the past, but like that makes it really unique. That makes it really special and that’s what makes it ours. So yeah, I interrupted you your Sweden’s Cove style uh you know feel to it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was gonna say I mean I think the video came together really well and we’ve obviously been doing a lot of thinking and you know we put out the survey and doing a lot of think about how people you know are kind of consuming what we do or you know interacting with links. Um, and so this is something we’ll uh we’ll aim to do a lot more of in the future, right? So that it’s not, you know, just about tuning in on a weekly call or, you know, uh, seeing weekly updates. You know, it’s it’s an interesting problem, right? Because like, you know, the work at Spay is going to go on over years and years, right? It’s like, you know, there’s there’s kind of micro things happening, but there’s also big macro things happening. So making sure we capture that and get it out and kind of some of these pieces which are more consumable, tie the story together and you know uh good for members also good for sharing with other folks and you know tuning them into what we’re doing. Uh I think it’s really helpful. I think this is awesome start. So super excited. If you haven’t watched it go watch it uh on YouTube. Um and you know look out for more of that coming in the future. Yeah. Yeah. If you haven’t shared it with a friend, share it with five or 10, you know, share it with as many people. Just play it on a loop on your computer or your kids’s iPad. Yeah, we appreciate awesome day. Yeah. Should we talk about some other golf courses, too, though? We got some other stuff. Yeah. So, we got we got a couple things. We can kind of bundle these together. There’s a new golf course planned Aaron Hills, which is great. I still haven’t been to Aaron Hills yet, but I’m excited. There’s even more of a reason for me to go on the horizon. Uh, also the second course at Gamble Sands called Scarecrows opening up for preview play soon. Hope you can all get a chance to check that out. And then there’s a new Guild Hands course in Al uh well a existing Guild Hands course in Alabama that’s getting revived. Capstone Club. I think Chris you can probably talk a little bit about our personal history with that place at least Lynx’s personal history with that place. So start where we want. I mean have you all been to Aaron Hills? Any thoughts on some of the stuff the work that’s happening there? Gamble Sand same. And then Chris, I’d love to hear from you a little bit of the context with the the hands in Alabama. I’ll say both both Wisconsin and uh the Pacific Northwest in general are big blank spots on my golf uh you know resume. So, don’t have a ton to say about Erin Hills. Although, you know, it’s kind of continuing the trend of spots adding courses, you know, trying to, uh, fight for the, you know, the buddy trip, uh, you know, use case and have people come and and stay for longer periods of time and that whole thing, which obviously, you know, spots like B and Dunes and Sand Valley and, uh, Stream Song and others are are doing, but, you know, definitely big news, I think, for Aaron Hills, uh, in that general vicinity. Big news for uh Gamble Sands. You know, they’ll have two fullsize courses now. I think they already had, you know, the original and then the short course um and the whole Himalayas green and they’ve got cabins there and everything. But you know, big news. I I think we’re at like we’re in the golden age of that stuff right now. It feels like right lots of destinations and uh you know either existing or getting built expanded. We talked about Royal Dornick doing it you know recently and you know it’s kind of happening everywhere. So that trend certainly continuing. I don’t I mean Coupe, you definitely have more Pacific Northwest uh golf experience than I do, but what what a Have you been to Gamble Sands before? I have not I’ve not made it out there. It’s inland, right? It’s and it’s up in Washington, so it’s Yeah. No, I I played some some good Oregon golf, but I haven’t made it up there yet. Um I think it’s all good for the supply of those buddy trip options, right? you want to go play some world class golf, not just play the same course four times, although sometimes that is really fun to do. Uh, I think this is great. I I think, you know, I’d love to see more in the sense, you know, kind of a familiar pitch, right? It’s we envision it to be a top 100 worldass club. There’s a lot of people doing that and aiming for that. And I think it’s good for the total supply of these types of options for folks. You mentioned stream. um more availability for that I think may not bring prices down but it might take some pressure off of uh you know looking at 2027 for abandoned trip right like I think there might be some more flexibility in in the market for these type of uh these types of trips um so yeah positive on that front what do you think I just want to get Aaron Hills because it looks great agree that you know there’s a lot of options which is nice And hopefully that will mean more competition for things like price, but also amenities and excitement and everything else. I I mean, I think like Chris said, it’s it continues to be the trend that I think this is a positive thing, getting back to finding the right piece of land, no matter where it is, building a golf course there, rather than forcing a golf course onto bad land or having to spend a ton of time and money to move a bunch of land and make it a good piece of property for a golf course. So, I think that continues to be a net positive for American golf in general and uh you know, definitely excited to check both of these out. Uh Chris, you know, the one Alabama you kind of have a story about. You want to tell us about that? Yeah. I mean, it’s not a deep story like we don’t have a personal relationship there. I think you said that. I didn’t ask story. Yeah. Just a story. I don’t know. Like Yeah. Yeah. No, this this caught my eye though because so this course Capstone Club in Alabama. It’s um it’s I think it’s like an hour outside of Birmingham um and closeish to Tuscaloosa. Uh but the article just caught my eye because this is one that Bez and I had flagged as like, you know, an interesting location option that that, you know, we tried to make happen as part of our US course search. I mean, everybody knows, you know, we looked at a ton of courses over over the years. Uh, we had the initial survey feedback and poll feedback about, you know, targeting the southeast and this was, you know, a Gilance course in Alabama, uh, relatively close to a, you know, I guess an international airport in Birmingham. Um, don’t know how many international probably goes to Mexico. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. uh but you know it was intriguing for for a number of reasons and so I mean the it’s kind of interesting story I think it was one of it’s like one of the first three uh of Gil Hans’s original designs he did a ton of you know restoration work and working for other architects and stuff and I think this was like his third um uh original design individually uh and then you know I think there was some sort of tie to the University of Alabama or thing didn’t pan out the way they wanted to and you know eventually went bust and so like when we looked at it a couple years ago it’s literally like there was no operating golf course it was just land you could look at a satellite photo of it you could see the holes cut in the trees and see that it was you know overgrown and stuff um and you know big old clubhouse sitting there unused uh which was intriguing and so we actually dug into it quite a bit and um and and couldn’t make anything happen I actually I’m my guess is after reading this article that stuff was already in the works with with some other folks. Uh but you know kind of fun to see some of that stuff come full circle. Um you know we certainly saw some potential in it. So we’ll see what they do with it. Could be really interesting. But yeah, that one definitely caught my eye when when ganning the news this week on on the golf course front. Sweet. Uh, it’s like when you see a, you know, a previous Hinge or Tinder Mat, you know, get married. You know, it’s the same kind of thing. I wonder what she’s up to. Oh, great. Or he birthday. All right. Uh, Cooper, uh, you got some new like macro nutritional things I noticed. Uh, we I saw this on Twitter. Uh I’m I’m not at home and I’m you know kind of haven’t looked at my phone as phone as much but I in one of the few positive developments of Twitter’s algorithm I was immediately served a video yesterday I think it was yesterday where you’re like or not a video a tweet we’re like I’m going to eat a bunch of spaghetti and then I’m going to go to the gym we’re going to see what happens which you know carb loading makes sense I think you had some red meat sauce on there maybe like it’s good combo and then like I think today you posted that you it worked out. So, I just want to check in. You know, this this is a golf conversation podcast, but we’ve also spent a lot of time talking about our own improvement journeys. So, I’m just What can you tell the people about spaghetti before a workout? Like, should you be trying it? Like, you know, I think the key my recommendation would be to eat three normal meals throughout the course of the day and not What time did I tweet this? Um, a 4:54 p.m. bowl of spaghetti and basil sauce. Tomato basil sauce. Yeah. Uh, but in the event that you’re, you know, grinding to work or anything else and you have, you know, you’re going to the gym at six, um, and there’s not a whole lot of other options, go for it. Eat a bowl of spaghetti, have have at it. Um, it’s was definitely a carb experience, but I did beat all of my previous lifts. So, you know, uh, we’re we’re working in the right direction. It it was fuel. It qualified. Um but would I recommend this over, you know, normal nutritional advice? No, absolutely not. Um but in a pinch, it was it was effective. Uh yeah, definitely working towards those goals I mentioned at the beginning of the year about like squat, bench, deadlift numbers, but uh the body fat percentage was not helped by the the generous parmesan, cheese, and olive oil. Yeah, that’s right. You got to bulk and then you got to cut. You know, there everything’s a cycle. It kind of reminds me of the Michael Scott when they do the fun run for uh for Meredith having rabies where he car loads on like fetucci Alfredo minutes before taking off on the race and then ends up getting sick. Uh yeah, glad just wanted to hold the space for game improvement. Uh we’re all working on something and it’s good to see that you have definitively proven that eating spaghetti with basil sauce before a lift will produce higher yields on all of your your heavy lifts. It’s better than at this point. Better than eating nothing. Better than none. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Probably better than like like I like Fruity Pebbles. I’m not gonna eat Fruity Pebbles before I go to work. Uh All right. So, let’s do some other chatter here. We got three questions for y’all before we wrap up. First, since we’re, you know, we talked about Gemini beginning, I imagine that all of us are now sort of emboldened and and going to feel better for making even more golf purchases in the future. But look back a little bit. What’s a golf purchase you’ve made recently that you would recommend for anyone? 10 out of 10 NPS. It’s helped your game, it’s made your game more fun, whatever, however you define that. But I want to hear from you all. What’s a recent golf purchase you’ve made that you enjoyed and you think other people should do too? I’ll I’ll limit it to a recent golf purchase because I feel like, you know, we’ve talked about uh tons of stuff. obviously all our partners and you know using Arcos and stack and you know there’s there’s lots of stuff we could talk about but uh a lot of that been working with for a while this this one a little more random not a partner but you know has been interesting I found uh recently got no free ads now no free ads now this I guess will amount to a free ad because I’m going to mention another brand but uh you know there’s lots of other things you can use but I got I think it’s coupe what’s the name of the brand it’s like I range sports It’s like the uh phone stick for like recording your swing basically. Um I mean a lot of people do that, you know, whatever. They’re going to post golf videos or or whatnot, but I find it interesting like I’m trying to do, you know, work on some swing changes, you know, fix some things that have been uh consistently bad about my swing. And you know, forever I would just like sit my phone on my my bag or whatever and like try and get a shot. It’s like huge pain in the ass. Uh this has actually made it a lot easier. So I’ve gotten a lot of like higher quality stuff. Can put it in the right spot to get the right angle from a swing and everything headon and you know down the line and all that. Uh this it’s actually been hugely helpful. is one of those things I like didn’t really think about at all. But, um, I’d recommend like if you’re actually trying to, you know, make some changes to your swing, put in some practice or whatever. I find it hugely helpful to get video of it so I can like gro what’s going on or, you know, like what what I need to change the the kind of, you know, positions, angles need to get to or whatever. Um, so that’s been pretty big. I found that really helpful. Shout out to I don’t know that that’s that’s kind of a random one. What would you guys have for I’ve really enjoyed the I range. I haven’t bought it recently. Nick in chat said that uh the best thing he’s bought this year is this club scrub. It’s like a little bag that you hang on your um bag and then you stick your clubs or your balls in it. That seems like a pretty cool deal. Um I would say probably the best thing that I bought because I haven’t really bought a bunch of new stuff this year would be TE’s. Um, I think like investing in some good TE’s that don’t break all the time. Uh, you know, versus just I I don’t know if you played with me on the 100ole hike. I was asking for TE’s every five minutes. Blasting through TE’s. We went through so many TE’s. The ground was hard. Um, so yeah, I mean some good Western Birch, you know, TE’s. Shout out to Lynx Pro Shop. We have those um in there. I mean, it’s good. And then if you look at the my golf spy data, you don’t need a fancy plastic tea or any of this crazy business that like the data says that a regular wooden tea actually goes further than any of the other crazy stuff. So add yards to your drive, get a good wooden wooden golf tea. Um I think that’s that’s my pick so far. Uh but I’ll keep you guys updated if I use my Gemini card to buy any more cool golf stuff this year, which I certainly will. there. So, spaghetti, videotape your swing, use wooden tees. These are the contributors to success. So, for me, uh it’s more of a golf vibes thing. I lose ball markers a lot. Obviously, like one of the lowhanging fruit when you go to a new golf course, you haven’t played by a ball marker. Invariably, if I put that into rotation, it gets lost. So, I have those at home just as a collection. But I real and then you you get like the plastic ones for free, but like they have the little nub on it. I don’t love it. You lose those two. So I’m as a Buffalo Bills fan, I realized that, you know, at one point the the US Mint produced Buffalo Head nickels. So I bought uh an entire roll of buffalo head nickels for like $35 off of eBay. It comes with like I don’t know 10,000 whatever’s in a roll. some some indiscriminate amount of number that I shouldn’t lose forever. Obviously, it’s not 10,000, but per unit cost, it’s cheaper than any other, you know, ball marker that you can buy. The roll itself is cheaper than some of the premium ball markers that you can buy. And you don’t care if you lose them, right? There’s so many of them that if you lose them, it’s fine. You got another one in a roll. They’re the perfect size. They’re the perfect weight. And one thing that uh I’ve been doing recently is on a match when when you when you you have to empty this up. The next time I play with you, you can try this. If you lose a match to someone, you got to give them a ball marker. Uh it’s, you know, it’s not huge stakes, but it’s a pride thing. So, it’s easy for me to lose those because I end up losing a lot of matches. So, Buffalo Head Nickels really, it’s just a plug for, you know, give yourself some personality, right? Like, you know, if you’re going to use a ball mark or find something fun, have tell a story. Uh, all right. Next thing. Second of three. What’s your biggest golf ick? Uh, you know, as the kids say, ick. What’s something about golf culture, about playing golf, whatever it is, it just really makes you icky. Really like makes you upset. Think something. Oh boy. Uh, I’ve been playing with the same group of guys in Philly recently. So, if they’re watching, I apologize, but you you maybe need to hear this. Um, players who play slow and then, you know, take like do a twominute warm-up sequence and then just shank the ball, right? Like, if you’re gonna play bad, play fast. Um, you know, drive the cart up to your ball unless it’s cart path only or whatever. You know, think about your surroundings, think about your And like I will admit, I’ve been playing with some through links, play with a lot of golfers who are newer to the game. got in through crypto or whatever. And it’s one of the things I see people pick up and it’s super like brings pride to my heart. It’s like, oh, I started getting faster, started being more aware of my surroundings, doing better etiquette. That’s just one easy thing that like it doesn’t matter how good you are at golf. I don’t need you to break a hundred. But if you can come out there, be aware of your surroundings, not get in anybody else’s way, and not make me as your host at a club worried about holding up the group behind us, that’s going to make for a really easy game. So that’s my my is just like play fast. Yeah, you you stole mine, man. That’s exactly what I was going to say. Now I’m on the hot seat trying to think of something else. I’ll go while you if you have one, right? Yeah. In true Yeah. In true spirit of icks where like you know when people say they have an ick sometimes it’s not a controllable thing. It’s not their fault, right? It’s just it’s an ick. So this is stupid, but like my ick recently has been rain. Just the whole concept of rain. Just the whole concept of of rain coming down from the sky and impacting your ability to play golf. I live in Tennessee. I would say this, you know, I don’t know if this is exactly right, but this is directionally correct. I’ve had at least seven rounds rained out that I looked, woke up in the morning, I looked at the weather, forecast was fine, show up, play a couple of holes, rain just starts coming down. And I think what makes it so frustrating is that it’s not controllable, right? Like I think like you know can’t really shouldn’t control, you know, complain about things that you can’t control or whatever. But it’s just it’s so deeply spiritually philosophically like whatever like at the root of of your of whatever just because you want to play golf and you want to be outside and you look forward to it and that it just gets taken from you. And that that’s my biggest take is right now is it’s just the whole idea of rain. Move to the Murray coast of of Scotland. It’s uh getting no rain right now. I can tell you that. Super dry. Yeah. Yeah. And that’s the thing is like you need rain for grant. I I get all that. And and like I should be able to play through the elements. We’re not talking about dry. Like I’ll play through rain. We’re talking about lightning. We’re talking about getting called off the golf course and unplayable conditions. That’s that’s to be clear. You know, I’ll put the rain gear on. I’ll play it. But yeah, we need rain in Scotland, so you know. Yeah. Yeah. Fair, fair. Um, yeah, I think the, uh, well, yeah, completely agree with that. I also find it crazy just like how inaccurate the forecasts are, you know, often looking at forecasts trying to, you know, figure out a when we can golf or what the best time is or whatever. And this is, you know, like earlier this week it was like, oh, Friday’s going to be completely rained out. Now it’s all clear, whatever. Um, I think you know the back to the the original question, the golf egg. I think you know slow play definitely uh the thing that was top of mind. I think the thing that gets me the most as part of that is uh multiple practice swings. That always kills me. It’s like no, okay, got your routine one, whatever. Okay. But uh you know swing until you got the right feel or whatever and getting into it. It’s like that can just be a killer. You know what cures that? A killer. Playing a 100 holes in one day. You will not take got to conserve your swings, man. That’s right. You will not take extra practice swings. Yeah. Or playing benches clubs where your swing doesn’t really matter, you know. Uh All right. So, last one before we wrap up. Just let’s just do a check on what’s in the bag. I’ll start real quick just to kind of run down the bag. So, I driverwise this year. I put in the new Ping. It’s good. It’s forgiving. Shaft feels right. You know, I’m kind of on the fence about my grips. I got uh what are they? The MCC Plus4s or whatever. I think I want to move to a smaller grip mostly just because they don’t fit in the bag. Great. But driver, while the driver has been pretty bad this season, that’s, you know, really the pilot, not the airplane, uh or the carpenter, not the hammer, whatever that metaphor is. I go from that driver down to then to a 3-wood. I’ve had a smokey eye 3-wood for like two and a half years. Also not a club that I necessarily think needs to be in my bag long term. There’s a couple of couple of holes at my home course that you know it makes sense to hit a three-wood on and not hitting a lot of greens and par fives and twos with the 3-wood because it just doesn’t hold the green anyway. So I’m kind of maybe thinking about getting more into a fivewood situation is but that’s what I have now. Below that I have a I have a two iron still that I game whenever I’m not feeling the driver. The driving iron’s great great in Scotland. It’s great to keep the ball low. foot rolls forever and it’s really hard to screw up. Uh then a sevenwood. Big proponent of the sevenwood. Uh that really replaces my four iron. I hit I can hit seven wood into greens. I hit the hold. I can hit anywhere between like 190 to like 210 215 for me. Different ball flights, but the stock shot is like basically 200 high. It stops and I don’t have issues with it rolling off the green. Uh, I want to replace the sevenwood because it’s just like a random one that I bought off the rack, but the seven wood I have is like an old couple year old thing. And then I go five through pitching wedge titleist the two years old Titus uh 150s. Uh, like those a lot. Titleist just released uh new T-series irons this past week. Excited to check those out. Uh, but it is a blended set. I think I have T200’s and five and six and then I go 150 down to pitching wedge and then I have Bokei wedges. Uh I have a 50, a 54 and I recently moved from a 60 down to a 58. I’ve been very happy with that. Uh get a little bit more full swing action, a little bit more control over uh spin, not as flippy with it. Doesn’t go as high. Uh but I can hit the same other types of shots that I used to hit with my 60, but it’s just a little bit little bit more uh forgiving. So that’s my bag. Chris, what do you got right now? Yeah. Um, not a whole lot of changes. It’s the the paradigm driver. I might look at the shaft on it. My I had one caddy who saw my five iron my fivewood swing, which is the AI smoke fivewood. Uh, which I’m just loving, man. Just like 260 pure, so forgiving. Um, and like I don’t know why I hit my driver, honestly, after I hit it most of the time. Uh, but I love that the shaft on that. Uh, and so I got driver, fivewood, four iron through pitching wedge on the Callaway Apex 21s, uh, which are great. Although I’ve got a new swing now and I’m back in the range of like my nine iron might go 150 or 185 and it’s a it’s a struggle. Sometimes if I catch the sweet spot and I swing hard, I’m like, well, I’m 20 yards over the green. Um, it’s a good problem to have, guys. Uh, not complaining. And then the uh it’s not it’s not a good problem to have. It’s the opposite of a good problem to have. 48 54 60 the weirdest gapping available in um Callaway Jaws Raw Linkst stamped wedges which uh I need to probably the the grooves are probably getting a little little light on those. Those were uh post mint uh presents. So, I think the I use the 60 on like every hole. Like literally every time I I I’m inside of 100 yards, I I use the 60. So, might need to refresh that at some point. The Opuses look nice, but uh and then the Betardi uh eight in 8 tour Department um is my my go-to. The Potterino. I see. I I may even like skip this section because excited very excited to go to Callaway HQ along with our link style and Hillrest uh folks that have joined Hillrest already later this month. prefer getting a full bag custom fitting feel that there will be a lot of changes coming out of that because it’s been a while since I’ve I think my irons I have like the Apex Pros are a couple years old or whatever but you know all my woods are are probably 10 years old at this point. Uh wedges you know I’ve updated but you know nothing crazy there and you know putter I’ve had forever. Um the Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum. Um but so lots of change coming. So, I won’t dwell too much on on what we’ve got. Maybe I’ll do an update post post fitting, post uh bag refresh, and we can can talk through all the cool stuff that’s coming out of that. Maybe a full just what’s in the bag video on your Instagram channel, you know, just like really give the people what they want, you know, two, three minutes, walk through it. Yeah. Very, very excited uh to see what comes out of that fitting. It’s uh you’re already, you know, both I feel like both of you all are trending in a little bit different direction than I am right now. And I I kind of don’t want you to get helped by new equipment. I’ I’d rather have you struggle a bit more for the next time we play. But you’re shooting better with with, you know, hickories and pimmens. So, you know, maybe it’s going to send us in the opposite direction, you know. We’ll see. Maybe I’ll just fully commit to being a hipster uh and not worry about care. All right, let’s wrap this up. So, thanks everybody for listening. But hey, I’m just going to tell the people that that stayed on the full time and uh uh that’s that’s their reward for sticking with us for the full podcast. So, four uh we already said 10% back golf course transactions. You get a $200 signup bonus. They also have just launched a huge RDER Cup giveaway. You get airfare and hotel, two weekend passes uh including food and non-alcoholic beverages, and $10,000 to spend uh on an unforgettable weekend. Wild. what will be an awesome experience. And the way they’re doing it is you earn entries for the giveaway every $50 you trade in crypto on Gemini or every $50 you spend on your Gemini credit card. So, not only you getting a sign up bonus, 10% back on golf transactions up to 250 in spend, but there’s also this awesome RDER Cup giveaway, which uh, you know, sounds like an incredible experience. Uh, I’ve been thinking about how I get over there, you know, just for someone who’s in the New York area just to take it all in, but this would be a better way to do it, I have to say. That sounds awesome. chat, give me some ideas on what I should trade on Gemini to stack up those 50 $50 transactions. Uh, drop give me some recommendations in Discord. Spaghetti. Yeah, spaghetti coin. When spaghetti spaghetti, that’s awesome. All right. All right. Drop a little a little on that. Cool. Well, everybody, love to see you. We’ll see you next week and uh please go watch the Scottish Open and get ready for hashtag the British Open the week after.
