I guess we’re forced to talk about LeBron again. What the else has happened in free agency? Could LeBron James be traded? You mean the greatest player of all time? Or you know what, to not argue with folks, the at worst second greatest player of all time who’s never been traded, who is open now potentially to being traded? That’s a boring discussion. We’d rather talk about the the Pacers losing Miles Turner because they don’t want to pay the tax because Hallebertton got hurt. That’s what we’d rather talk about. Cam Whitmore for two second round picks because had LeBron, let’s say LeBron opted out and said, “I’m going to be a free agent.” And guess what, guys? I’m going to play for the minimum. The entire conversation would be about stacking the deck, unfair, fake ring. Nick Wright goes off on people hating on his king, LeBron James. Check out what he had to say and then I’ll come back with my comments. So, LeBron opted into his $52 million contract and then came the trade rumors. Um, Rich Paul came out with a statement and said LeBron knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning all. Um, you thought that they were going to come away with a center. Um, they ended up hitting DeAndre Aiden. Who was a center? Yeah, but something about this whole process has been peeing you off. Do you care to share with the audience? Yeah. So defend your I have just been mystified at the combination of misinformation, disingenuous commentary, and almost huffing and puffing from the media like, “Oh, I guess we’re forced to talk about LeBron again. What the else has happened in free agency? There you go. The Kevin Durant trade that all of us knew was coming that we that we talked about that. That was awesome. That was exciting. Other than that, it’s been the deadest free agent agency imaginable. Look, we already know LeBron James wanted to change the narrative, wanted to be talked about. So, this is what he really wanted, not just the people. Don’t get me wrong, as a content creator, anything LeBron related, hey, I’m cool with it. I’ll cover it depending on what it is. But this is a perfect opportunity for LeBron James to keep his name going. He knows that he most likely won’t win another championship. So his best bet, let me be talked about when the NBA season is over. Let me be frontline news. So even though Nick Wright, he will defend his king at all cost. I don’t even know why you’re pissed. You’re in with club sports. You know what’s going on behind the scenes. You shouldn’t be surprised by the media coverage of LeBron James. One team had cap space. It was the Net. They they decided to use it just to take other teams bad contracts. The Shams was telling us a month ago this could be the craziest off season ever. Nothing’s happened other than the Durant move. The most notable move is Norman Powell getting traded to Miami. Norman Powell, who by the way, oddly enough, the the only time Norman Powell’s been discussed on uh regularly on podcast and TV shows, aside from ones focused on the Clippers, was a different LeBron James thing when people were like, “Ah, what did anyone think of Norman Powell and his all-star spot if LeBron knew he wasn’t going to play?” And so, but I but I’m listening to and reading folks basically be like, “All right, I guess we’ll feed the content and engagement monster and have the boring tired discussion of could LeBron James be traded? You mean the greatest player of all time?” or you know what to not argue with folks. The at worst second greatest player of all time who’s never been traded, who is open now potentially to being traded. That’s a boring discussion. We’d rather talk about the the Pacers losing Miles Turner because they don’t want to pay the tax because Hallebertton got hurt. That’s what we’d rather talk about. Cam Whitmore for two second round picks. I don’t think it’s that. And again, don’t get me wrong. I said earlier as a content creator, I don’t mind covering LeBron, but people are tired of him playing games in the media, being a quote unquote fraud. Leafro James, as Skip would call him. So, yeah, he can do what he wants. He can make media news and people are going to cover him, but what’s with all the moves that you’re trying to make, changing the narratives? I think that’s the real issue that people have. like he really thinks the fans and the NBA sports people, he must think they’re stupid to where he may put out this certain messaging with Rich Paul. He may make some comments. He may post a picture of him practicing at the facility, even though he’s been doing that for 20 plus years, doing it now, posting that picture. He knows the type of talk that’s going to be covered behind this. So, at the end of the day, LeBron James knows what he’s doing. Nick Wright knows what he’s doing as a clutch sports plant, clutch sports employee. He already had Rich Paul put a battery in his back. Same with LeBron. And now he’s going off on everybody. Like, what are we doing? This is And it’s not lost on me. Today, this very moment is the 15-year anniversary. I didn’t know that until I saw I saw an article written about it this morning. Today’s the 15-year anniversary of the decision, which means we’ve had 15 years of enhanced, more roundthe-clock, more 12 month a year, 365day NBA transaction interest from player empowerment to the owners trying to rustle it back, super teams, homegrown, all of it, it came because LeBron and Maverick put together a TV show and changed the whole paradigm. And 15 years later, he’s still one of, if not the most interesting person in the league. And folks who cover the league for a living seem almost resentful that this is a story. So, I don’t understand that. But that’s I guess a matter of taste. Again, Nick, you know what’s going on. And you do understand it. You know, LeBron James, he’s a polarizing figure. He’s one of the best players in NBA history. If you want to rank them 1 through 10, it is what it is. But at the same time, Nick, stop acting surprised. You love this right now. Nothing’s going on in sports. Baseball is cool, but no one’s really covering that. The WNBA, minus Caitlyn Clark, no one’s watching that. No one cares. So, there’s nothing going on other than these NBA trade rumors, this NBA news. So, Nick Wright, I know you’re happy. you got something to talk about on your platform. Same with me and thousands of other sports content creators out there. So, as far as the decision, you know, he did what he had to do. As a Heat fan, I wish he would have stayed longer. That was a huge mistake by LeBron James leaving the Heat going to four straight finals and winning two championships. He should have left Miami after eight years and probably winning four or five championships. But it is what it is. That’s a personal preference. So be it. But then there is what I consider the outright misinformation might be too strong especially in today’s climate but just misleading and incorrect I guess opinions on LeBron’s money and LeBron’s value and LeBron’s impact on winning. Cuz here’s what I know. Last year we played we had an off season by the way. We’re in the Olympics. They had a whole all the best players in the world came together in Paris to play a basketball tournament and then they voted on who was the most valuable player in that tournament and it was LeBron James. Now, I argued you could have gone co- MVVPs because LeBron carried the team up until the final and then Steph was so utterly brilliant in the semi-final and the final. If you wanted to split the baby, so be it. That’s fine. Steph should have won that award. I think everybody knows it. Yeah, LeBron, he may have had some good games previously, but the last two games from Steph Curry, he saved LeBron James, Olympic Legacy. So, Steph got snubb and again the quote unquote GOAT. he’s gonna win all the awards, but he won the MVP of that. Then this year, we had a whole NBA season and then the entirety of basketball media voted on awards. And after this season, if your name was not Shay Gilgis Alexander, Nicola Joic, Giannis Antennao, Jason Tatum, or Donovan Mitchell, basketball media said you were not as valuable as LeBron James. Those are the five guys that finished higher in MVP voting. Those are the five guys who received more first team AllNBA votes. That’s the entire list. Not Steph, not Kawhai, not Durant, not who’s the younger guys that I’m leaving out. Not Cade, not Hallebertton in the regular season. He obviously came on huge in the postseason. none of those guys. We had an awards. We had a season. Sixth most first team allNNBA votes, sixth most sixth in the MVP voting. And the reason I bring that up is then the discussion around LeBron James make being the 13th highest paid player was, well, doesn’t LeBron understand that a huge impediment to winning is his salary? In what world? Now, if LeBron James wants to continue to get as much help as possible, like he’s been saying for many years, he’s going to have to take less money. I’m all about players getting their money, making as much money as possible. For the most part, an NBA career is short. And then when you’re maxing out, playing good like he has played over 23 years, yeah, you want to get as much money as possible, but at the same time, if you’re LeBron James, you’re worried about your legacy. So, him being the 13th paid highest player, cool. But if you want to continue to get as much help as possible, you’re going to have to take little discounts here and there. And he didn’t want to take a discount this go around. at age 40, about to be 41. He opted into the 52 million, which is cool, but don’t complain that you don’t have help on this team by taking all that money, by being 40 plus. You know what it is. All right, cool. I made my money. I’m making a lot more money outside of sports. Let me go ahead and take 40 million, 38 million, 20 million, whatever you got to do to take as low as possible. People said he would have caught some flak if he would have opted out or get a buy out and go to a different team for two or three million. At the end of the day, it is what it is. You’ll win a championship most likely. And I think the narrative will change that he did take less money. He did go to a championship team, but he said what he was going to do. He’s going to take less and and win. So LeBron at the end of the day, people will criticize him no matter what. But at the same time, he does put a lot of criticism on himself. There’s that piece of it that if you’re the seventh or eighth best player in the sport and you’re the 13th highest paid player in the sport, you’re on a bargain contract. Then there was this piece of it. Well, if he was really focused on winning, he should have taken less to help the Lakers. He should have. And that was that is a understandable opinion by fans. an a just abhorrent job by the media in perpetuating that because LeBron James if he had cut his salary Deamontz from 50 if he had opted out of the 52 and said you know what I’ll play for 20 you know how much cap space that opens up for the Los Angeles Lakers $0 not a penny because they’re that far over the cap already. They still could have got rid of players though. So LeBron could have been a domino effect. He takes less. They get rid of some contracts, expiring contracts or contracts that will end in about two or three years like a Gabe Vincent, like a Vanderbelt, a couple players like that mixed in with LeBron taking less, they would have had more money to sign a better player. But again, LeBron, he wanted to take the money and still wants to complain if he doesn’t win a championship. If LeBron James had said, “I’ll go from 52 million to the league minimum,” it would have opened up roughly $10 million in cap space for the Lakers. 10 million bucks. Better than nothing. So this idea that the Lakers could have been these major players in free agency if LeBron had simply taken a discount is belied by just the facts. And it’s also it’s also a and we all know this is true a disingenuous discussion because had LeBron let’s say LeBron opted out and said I’m going to be a free agent and guess what guys I’m going to play for the minimum. The entire conversation would be about stacking the deck unfair fake ring like that. So, there was him simply saying, “I don’t know. I’m the 13th highest paid guy in the league. I’m probably pretty underpaid.” And that’s even before you consider all of the off-c court stuff that I bring to the table. So, yeah, I’ll just play for my 50 million is more than totally reasonable. Yeah, he would have probably caused some backlash if he went to a different team and took less the league minimum, but he can do that with the Lakers as well. he can take the least as amount as possible, move some players around, and they can still get another allstar, a couple good players. So either way, if you’re LeBron, if you want to win, you take less money, get yourself out the way, and then hopefully the Lakers, they’ll move enough players for you to get enough cap space to get another all-star player. So you don’t have to settle for a player making 9 or 10 million. Was there like he have to but he opted into the contract? Like what what would have his other options have been, you know? could have opted out and been a free agent. He could have opted out and been a free agent and signed anywhere for the literally anywhere for the league minimum and leave 50 million on the table or a lot of places for the mid level which is about 14 million bucks and the only team that could have signed him for more than $14 million would have been the Nets which would have made no sense. So those were Go ahead. And why did he not do that? Are you saying like cuz he thought the Lakers were going to do a better job with securing a better Well, I I mean I think that there’s I think it’s uh I don’t think there is a perfect solution here for you know what they’re trying to accomplish all these things. And I’m a big um believer of you can’t have everything you want in life and sometimes like you you know you have to make trade-offs. I’m not sitting here arguing that the Lakers owe him something more than they owe Luca, which is to try to win a damn championship this season. And I’ll get to the Lakers piece of it in a minute. I’m not saying that there is a perfect solution for what he’s trying to accomplish. What I’m saying is the narrative that a a huge impediment to winning is, you know, when you pay a player way more than he’s worth, that’s going to hurt you. Like the the example people use is, you know, Kobe at the end. When LeBron was, according to NBA voters, which I am not, was the sixth best player in the league last year. Right. So, so, so that part is to me just erroneous. Look, man, at the end of the day, man, LeBron, do what you going to do. Stop putting out these false narratives like you want to leave or Rich Ball said you still want to win. Yeah, everybody wants to win a championship, but the chances of that happening are slim to none. So, you only have a few select teams that realistically have a chance. Can the Lakers have an opportunity to win? Maybe. So, they still got chances to get more players throughout the season, but LeBron taking less would have helped only because they would have moved some more players and got more cap space to make more moves. So, it is what it is. He took the money, but stop trying to change the narrative. LeBron and Nick Wright, stop trying to protect your king, LeBron James.
