Aldrich Potgieter Swing Breakdown | GolfPass
Aldri Park Getter. What an incredible talent from South Africa. Young man, very strong. Hits his 79 well over 200 yards. That’s what we’re looking at here at 79. What could you learn that he does that might help you? He has a very strong grip, meaning that the V’s on his hands, lead and trail are pointing about to his trail shoulder. Strong is long, as I always say. That helps him use his body in the down swing. More on that in a moment. He takes a massive turn. That would be 90° right there. His box facing the target. He’s gone well past 90, maybe 100° of shoulder turn. The more you turn going up, potentially the more speed you have coming down. Now, going to take him back to the dress position here. I’ll often do this when I’m analyzing a swing. I am going to draw a line by his lead hip and I’m going to say break that line. So he’s gone up to the top. He’s taken a huge shoulder turn with his strong grip. Watch how much he breaks that line very early in his down swing. He’s got a tremendous amount of weight on his left foot. There’s his lead foot pushing into the ground. No doubt. And at that point, his hips are probably still pretty square. It looks like his belt buckle will still be facing the target. That system is loaded with energy. And then from there, he’s going to drag with his body in this part of the swing. He’s dragging to some degree with the left side of his chest, with his legs, with his lead arm. Dragging the grip end that way until it’s the right time for him to speed up the club. Speed up the club. He certainly does. Make no mistake for the compression part. Yes indeed he has got a tremendous amount of shaft lean on that club. Let’s have a look and see how much that is. That’s 18 degrees of shaft on that club. You have to be very very strong to do that. Unless you’ve got his athletic strength, you wouldn’t want the hands that far ahead. But for him that launches the ball very long, very straight hands are ahead. Won’t you slice the ball from there, Martin? Not if he gets the club back in center here. And you can certainly see at this point the toe of the club has rotated around the shaft. And that is the way to hit the ball a long long way. So if you wanted it farther, strong with the grip, long with the swing, big turn. Break the line. Break that line. Break that line. Drag that club and let the club head go fast late. There it is. I think he’s got an incredible future in this game. I think he has some things we could all learn from. And if you do some of what he does, you never know. You might just play better.
