Ryan Fox opened his week with a roller-coaster 66, marked by birdies, bogeys, and even an eagle. Despite only hitting three fairways, he found a way to keep the ball on the greens and card a low score. In this interview, he admits the round was “a bit too colorful,” but a score he’s happy to build from.

Ryan, uh, good start to the week, a 66 to kick things off. Put us in the driver’s seat for that one. Yeah, it was interesting to be honest. Um, I think I hit three fairways, but I only missed three greens. Um, it’s I think it’s kind of hard to hit fairways around there with it being so firm at the moment. Everything kind of just slides off into the rough, but I also didn’t feel like I drove it that great. Um, with the putter, I had a couple of three parts. missed a couple of short ones, but I also felt like from 30 ft everything looked like it had a chance of going in. It was just a just a strange day. A lot of bogeies, a lot of birdies, and an eagle in there. It was um very happy with the score, but would like it to be um a little less colorful to tomorrow. You’re obviously having a great season so far and uh big win under the belt now at the RBC Canadian Open. Your confidence in yourself and your game. Do you feel happy with what you’re bringing into this week? Yeah. Yeah, I had a couple of weeks off coming into this week. Um, yeah, it was a really big stretch. You know, couple of wins in there, a couple of majors, um, a couple of signature events and I was running on empty there and, you know, basically took the last two weeks off. Came over to the UK early, played a little bit of Lynx golf, which has been really fun. And, um, you know, probably felt a little bit rusty in in patches today, just kind of not tournament sharp, but um, yeah, look, I feel feel like my game’s still there. Um, you know, and the good thing now like I know for certain that my best stuff can compete with anyone out there and um, yeah, it’s would like to bring it out a bit more often than I have over the last couple of years, but um, yeah, I can definitely take a lot of confidence from the last few weeks and um, you know, kind of feel like I’m playing a little bit with house money at the moment. You know, having status, guaranteed status, um, you know, kind of being able to pick a schedule going forward that’s been massive because it’s been a pretty tricky couple of years in that regard. Yeah. Yeah. It often goes under the radar just how hard it is out here for you guys. You’re battling week and week to find that sense of security. And it it seems in your body language, Ryan, you do seem relaxed. You seem happy. That must be a really nice place to play golf with, at least for a while. Yeah, definitely. Um, you know, we’re all chasing something regardless of how you’ve played. But, um, you know, just after the last few weeks, it kind of I don’t feel like I’m riding myself quite as hard. You know, the if I hit a bad shot, it’s a lot easier to laugh it off. if I miss a part it’s oh oh well it doesn’t matter as much whereas you know maybe the last 18 months or so felt like I’ve tried too hard it’s all mattered just a little bit too much and um that’s a hard place to play really good golf from um and I kind of just slipped back into trying to hit golf shots at Myrtle Beach coming down the stretch just being in contention just kind of flicked that switch and go okay I’m just trying to hit a shot I’m not worried about where it goes and I hit a lot of really good shots and that obviously getting a win helped but that just kind of changed the whole mentality on the golf course just felt like I could go back and and be comfortable out trying to hit shots, not chasing something, not trying to worry about where the ball was going to go. And it’s been a been a really nice few months being able to play golf that way again. Yeah, great. Well, a very good start here at the Genesis Scottish Open and long may that feeling continue. Thanks, Anna. effects.
