To shorten the length of matches and make it more entertaining, golfers compete to get the ball in the hole as fast as they can.

New Golf Rules – Studio C
#StudioC
[exciting music] Dalton: Welcome back
to the Fairway Fields Open ━ first tournament of the year
on the PGA Tour. ♪♪ Jim: First on tee, please welcome,
from New Mexico, Tim Maccabee. Last year’s tournament was the lowest rated
in history, so they’ve changed up
the rules to try to make the game
a little more exciting for the folks at home. Dalton: That’s right. They’re now looking
for a speed-based score instead of a hit-based score, so you can hit the ball
as much as you want as long as you get it
in there faster than the other guy. I think we can expect to see
a little more golf and a little less
standing around. Jim: I’m curious to see
how the players adjust. [thwack] [light thudding] [crowd applause] Wow! Okay, and there he goes. That is quite a run. Dalton: Yeah, there’s
somethin’ really unnatural about watchin’
a golfer sprint. It’s like watchin’
a chicken fly━- you always knew
they could do it, but it’s weird
when it happens. [crowd applause] [thwack] Jim: Just throwin’ technique
to the wind. Dalton: Yeah, his caddy
is doin’ a good job keepin’ up. Apparently he doesn’t know
anything about golf━- Maccabee just plucked him right off a college
track and field team. Jim: Nothin’ wrong with that. Dalton: Uh, I suppose not. [plink] Ah, he overshot it
a little bit… but he cleans it up. That’s in,
and they’re exhausted. All right, folks, I guess
this is what it is now. Yeah, if you’re just
tunin’ in, you’re, uh,
you’re watchin’ the PGA. Now on tee,
from Richmond, Virginia, we have Max Fitzgerald. Jim: He is an extremely
technical player. Here he is now,
testing the wind to make sure
he has the right club for these conditions. Dalton: This is
the lucky driver he’s been using
for 20 years. But– oh… what is this? He’s swapping out his driver
for his… putter! Jim: I’m curious to see what exactly
his intentions are with that ball. [plink] [crowd applause] Dalton: Ope– wow. He’s just optin’ for the push-his-ball-along-like-
his-club-is-a-broom approach. That’s great. Just kinda chasin’ it
down the fairway. Jim: I think
somewhere in there there’s an athlete, but just watching this
it’s hard to tell. Dalton: This is good
to watch. It’s still a sport. Jim: He’s already
at 25 swings! But nowadays,
that doesn’t matter at all. Dalton: His caddy
is struggling to keep up. Almost makes ya think, Just drop the clubs━-
he’s only using one anyway! Jim: Oof. Little mishap with the foot. I guess that’s just bound
to happen when you get your feet
so involved in a sport like golf. Dalton: That’s gonna
cost him. And he finishes
at 45 seconds, on a 30 second par. Woof. Jim: It’s rare
to see a golfer that out of breath. Dalton: Or out of breath
at all. My, how the mighty
have fallen. Max: [heavy breathing] I just need a minute. I just need a minute. Dalton: Wow. If he’s this tired on Hole 1, he’s gonna leave
this tournament on a stretcher. Oof. Max: [heavy breathing] Dalton: This is good
to watch. Max: [gasping for air] Dalton: Oh, the golf clubs
are fallin’ out. You know, caddies were always
underpaid, but… this is really somethin’. That is one tired man. His age is really showing. [whoosh] Jim: Back at the box, we have Casey Henderson
teeing off. [thwack] Okay, now,
what is going on here? Dalton: I don’t know,
I’ve never seen this before. Jim: Interesting━-
that’s all I’ll say. Dalton: Well, Jim, it’s never been
against the rules to hit from the cart, but it really makes ya think, What am I watching,
is this still golf? Jim: It’s kinda like golf
mixed with Formula One, but if the golf was bad
and the Formula One was… bad. Dalton: This method
could really put her
ahead of the pack on account of golf carts
are faster than legs, but those are gonna be
costly little mistakes. Looks like she’s gonna
back up now. Caddy: Stop, stop! Dalton: And… oh! Oh, my,
she didn’t even look back! It’s a bad day to be a caddy. And don’t–
oh, don’t go forward! Oh, mercy! Caddy: [groaning] Dalton: At least
she’s standing up– oh, gosh! That caddy
is havin’ a rough time. Jim: While she’s doin’ that,
we go back to the tee box — where you’ll witness yet another
recent rule change. Dalton: This year,
a random civilian is dragged off the street
and given a chance to play for the 1.7 million dollar
purse. I don’t know who keeps
comin’ up with these rules! Jim: Whoa! And he is facing
the wrong way! Dalton: This is just hard
to watch. Jim: Poor guy clearly
has no idea how to golf. Dalton: Embarrassing for him, but a blast
for the viewers at home. [thwack] Jim: Ah, well, that’s actually
a pretty decent swing! Crowd: [murmuring] Dalton: Hang on a second. Ah, I don’t believe it ━
a hole in one! – Yeah!! Jim: Guess that’s still
just the best way to do it. Dalton: Nice to see someone
just golf again. Jim: Yeahhh… ♪♪ [thwack]

And just like that it goes from a thing rich people do for leisure..to an ACTUAL SPORT.
I thought that this was gonna be a lance sterling.
3:33 more like golf mixed with polo
This was the first good sketch since the old Studio C
That's field hockey at this point.
Fun fact speed golf is actually a thing
Who else was waiting for Matt to be hit in the face with a golf ball?
45 seconds on a 30 second par!!😳😂😂
I think the caddy should have been Matt 😂
Comment inserted here. 😂😂
I have returned to studio c after a few years…..and Matt is back? what did i miss?
Man, it's like Mario Golf or something.
This actually isn't a terrible idea. Not as a replacement to golf but as an alternative.
The return of Scott sterling
So the joke is….. what if PGA used the optional rules from Mario Golf.
Should have been named Scott Sterling
NO WHERE NEAR AS GOOD AS ( I think it was an s.n.l. skit)" what if golf were more like hockey😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Why are not these guys on Tv ,give SNL a run for the money!!
Speed golf is an actual thing. But score and time are actually counted
Now that’s what I call golf!
