Sepp Straka opened his Scottish Open campaign with a 64, crediting his short game for the low number. In this interview, he breaks down how sharp chipping and confident putting helped offset a shaky day with the driver. Straka shows that when touch and creativity are dialed in, the scores can go low—even on a demanding links course.

Great start, mate. Thank you. All righty. You tell me when you’re happy with framing. I’m happy. Step 64 to start. What was the hallmark of that performance? Uh short game, I would say. Yeah. Uh my iron play was pretty good. Uh driver not so much, but the chipping was really nice and also made a lot of putts. So, anytime those two are working, the score is usually going to be pretty good. You are greens in regulation machine. Uh you’ve been proving that all season long on the PGA Tour being the very best. On Lynx golf, you do tend to have to chip a little bit. What do you love about this form of the game? Uh it’s, you know, it’s a little bit unpredictable and it puts you in spots where you may be a little bit uncomfortable and use use shots that you normally wouldn’t hit. And uh I think that that’s kind of what makes it the most fun. You know, you’ll hit a shot and you end up in a place where you’re you’ve never hit the shot before and then uh it’s fun to kind of try to pull that off. It’s become abundantly clear that you are one of the best players in the world playing this great game of ours. How easy has that been to come to term with emotionally finding that position in the game where you are now? Um I try not to think about it too much to be honest with you. Uh just keep trying to improve my golf game. Uh that’s been the goal for the whole time that I’ve been professional. Really since I’ve been a junior golfer. So uh yeah, just keep keep trying to improve my golf game and uh see see kind of where where we end up. Great playing so far. Keep it going. Thank you. Appreciate it. Thanks, mate. Appreciate your time. Thanks, pal. Another one. Three in quick succession. Oh, okay. Um,
