TaylorMade’s new P•UDI Bomber is a limited release available through the brand directly

With The Open Championship right around the corner, TaylorMade have opened their cargo bay doors and released a WW2-inspired Driving Iron to help you send explosive bombs down the fairways

When it comes to the best utilities and driving irons in the game, TaylorMade have certainly had their fair share of success. The company’s long iron replacements have been put into the bags of their biggest players, including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, as well as several non-staffers throughout the years. Never have they shown off something as aggressive, however, as the new TaylorMade UDI Bomber.

If you’re looking at the latest iteration of the UDI and thinking it feels familiar, you aren’t wrong. As part of the P-series of irons, there’s plenty of technology and styling that crosses over from that range, in particular the brand new P790 that was released earlier this year (and the club that won our ‘best players-distance iron‘ category).

Both clubs feature a tour-preferred shaping, something TaylorMade have developed from feedback taken directly from their roster of stars. The profile has been kept tight to the ground and tight on the linework to bring appeal to all levels of the game, as well as helping improve turf interaction through an enhanced heel-toe sole camber.

If you haven’t already spotted it, there are some killer looks to join the killer shaping to.

Having taken inspiration from the era-defining and iconic looks of 1940s fighting aircraft, the new P•UDI Bomber comes in a smoky, bronze finish, highlighted with copper accenting. Laced across the back-badging is a panelling effect, meant to mirror the sheet metal construction of a plane of the time, as well as an ultra-cool ‘TM Bomb’ in the high-toe section.

Despite the looks, you don’t need to be a member of 617 Squadron to pilot this particular bird, though.

The 'Bomber' TaylorMade logo is a cool touch for the new P•UDI

The TaylorMade UDI bomber is built from a 4140 high-speed face, a steel fittingly known as ‘aircraft-grade,’ combined with what the company refers to as a thick-thin back wall construction and deliberately distributed mass for a precise CG (Center of Gravity) location, through 26 grams of Tungsten, to deliver specific Mid-Low launch and spin performance characteristics.

Finally, you’ll see audible feedback improved via the Sound Stabilization Bar, and protection from lower mis-strikes with Taylormade’s trademark Speed Pocket technology, which produces increased face flexibility to preserve ball speed.

All of this comes together to produce impressive performance and a high-quality, premium forged feel.

As an extra touch, TaylorMade are also including a unique head cover, styled after the bomber jackets worn by the crews of famous aircraft used at the time, with a ‘Stinger Squadron’ bee motif and zipper to complete the look.

The TaylorMade P•UDI Bomber is available from today, July 11th, in limited quantities directly through TaylorMade’s website for $299.99/£249. The club features a UST Mamiya Recoil Dart graphite shaft (90-Stiff, 105-X) and comes with a Golf Pride Victory grip in Black/Copper.
