Today I review the Lazrus driver. This driver is a little easier on the budget than the premium brands. How will it perform? I hope you enjoy the review!

hey guys Mr short hitter here you don’t look like a short hitter to me i was lucky enough that Lazarus and you guys probably remember Lazarus from some videos I did in the summer a couple videos on the Lazarus wedges i did a video on the Lazarus hybrid in the fall well Lazarus sent me a driver to check out so I don’t know anything about this driver we’re going to unbox it and I feel like probably the best thing to do on this windy day is to go on the course play a few holes little golf vlog with the Lazarus driver so let’s take a look so guys I think Lazarus is kind of known Lazarus lazarus I think I’m saying that right i think they’re kind of known their branding for this blue and gray maybe so Lazarus on the box here they are a direct to consumer brand right out of Boise Idaho and they’re trying to do big things in the golf market i’m all about saving money again their signature colors this side of the head cover feels pretty premium this is probably like a more vinyl material on this side but looks good i’ll probably keep it in the standard setting but it has a little chart here that you can change to make the loft higher or lower probably the lowest price club or driver that I’ve seen to where it has so much adjustability so we have it on a standard loss setting here and I got this stock at 10 and a half degrees the shaft comes a 65 g regular shaft it’s like a little rubber bracket kind of a little rubber washer rather and pretty easy loosen that up pretty easy to change a setting on this just a standard law standard lie we’ll give it a try see if we need to adjust anything but really today I’m just going to go out it’s a beautiful day play four or five holes with it just kind of see what we get out of the club very windy day sorry about the audio it’s going to be a mess here 328 to that flag directly into the wind does feel a little heavier than my driver shot off the face i hit kind of my standard little cut shot there not good into that wind nervous trying to do much with it my first swing with that club so I wasn’t going to try to hit any type of draw or anything so I’m about 10 yards right at the fairway which again into that wind is going to make the ball curve even more 138 with the elevation here normalish shot there 138 into the wind wind almost feels like it’s dying down here and I don’t want to go past that pin so I will hit a seven iron because I’m coming out of the rough in case it releases that really well guys that I don’t know almost feel like that might be long guys everything is getting firm and I’m a big proponent of not hitting it over the green so that was a really bad play there [Music] in this hole we can’t really afford to hit that little cut shot because there’s trees right i will aim kind of at that car path with the elevation and we have about 202 to carry that creek right in the middle it’s down wind so I would expect to not really have a problem with that today this time I’ll see if I can hit this driver a little straighter kind of went a little further further right due to being into the wind I’d imagine shaft feels a little heavier than my normal but sounded like it had a little kick to it that flew pretty good guys it is definitely a louder driver it’s a louder sound than I’m used to but hit it pretty good so guys I almost feel with this driver it’s similar to the hybrid that I tested where it almost feels like there’s a little more whip to it maybe this club is more designed for players with even a little slower swing speeds than mine but that whip really helped me on this drive because this is one of the longer drives than I hit on this hole now we were down wind so probably got a little roll or probably quite a bit of roll actually 88 yards it’s pretty darn good right to left wind so maybe it wasn’t straight downwind so pretty good drive a little 50° here wow guys it is so firm [Music] so I just shot this at 250 slope adjusted and we’re downwind and we have some firm ground today all right guys we’ve got a 360 yard par4 [Music] hey Mr short hitter what kind of boy are you using oh it’s a Callaway chrome saw got it from Golfball Planet golfball Planet what’s that golfball Planet has been the number one supplier of used golf balls since 1997 are they expensive matter of fact they’re not expensive at all and you can save 18% by using my code MSH18 are you going to hit the ball or what [Music] that went a little higher than [Music] normal kind of made a didn’t make a great swing there but maybe it’s got a little forgiveness so poorly struck ball but just barely off the fairway maybe that little extra kick helped me there 31 yds to the flag again I hit a 220 but downwind downhill but just did not strike it very well we hit a little 54 here bounce it on and it’s so firm we’re going to adjust and hit a 58 here [Music] well it’s even firmer than we thought it was and I also pulled that ball significantly not the pitch shot you want from 30 yards you good putt oh [Music] boy i feel like this club is designed for a player that needs a little bit more kick the hybrid was the same thing i felt like the hybrid was kind of designed with a little bit slower player in mind and I feel the same way with this this driver uh I got this in a regular shaft so if you swing maybe 85 mph with the driver that might be about right i swing the driver 89 to 91 so if you’re a player 85 86 87 somewhere in there I feel like this would be a good driver for you the shaft 65 g shaft I can still feel the weight in the head i feel like it’s going to have a pretty good sweet spot and be a pretty forgiving driver if you can get that shaft that matches up with your swing speed all right guys so I’m going to shoot the flag here and just for giggles I’m going to try to swing just a tad slower 350 i’ll swing just a tad slower and see if that makes a difference and if I’m able to get that kick point to work for me did you think you’d ever hear me saying I’m going to try to swing slower [Music] [Music] that was pretty solid struck on the face pretty well i take that shot all day long so maybe we’re on to something 160 166 with the elevation so I learned a very hard lesson last time so I’m just going to hit a five hybrid [Music] short of this green or in the front of this [Music] green it’s a good thing we did hit the five there ball released uh maybe about 20 25 ft took a really big bounce uphill right to left green is pretty slick [Music] i’m getting hit a few shots here and what I’m expecting is to maybe launch this a little higher and have a little too much spin i haven’t changed the settings at all but if I could carry balls I would say 200 plus I think this is a a pretty good indication that this driver would be pretty good especially without me getting it optimized let’s just see what we get here on a few swings pretty pretty good start 216 let’s see now looking at the numbers launch 16° so the optimal range is 14 to 16 so we’re just on the high end of that pretty good i thought it would have too much spin we’re at 2850 optimal is 2,300 to 2,800 and then we’re also on the high end of the descent but overall if I could hit that drive I would take that on course all day long that one didn’t feel quite as solid 199 carry so numbers are going to be probably well off there ball speed way down let’s see what we did there yeah so that launch 21 degrees i hit that way up off the face the descent very very steep spin rate too high so that was not an optimal shot at all but that’s kind of the shot I hit on the course from time to time that one felt better stay in the fairway okay good carry on that one spin is lower so again launched it just a a little high spin way down descent more shallow again a shot that I would take on the golf course every time so that’s that’s pretty good let’s hit one [Music] more okay one well not one 216 carry so pretty good spin looks good launch is a little maybe a little high on that one yeah launched a little high out of range spin good and descent a little too steep because we launched it too high not bad numbers there though if you’re looking to save some money this is not a bad driver at all real nice head cover feels pretty good looks just as good as the premium brands at a dress this club looks really nice the back of it looks nice it has this little weight plate here and I didn’t see anywhere that this is removable it looks like there’s no reason that this weight can’t be removed so that would be something that I would probably experiment with a little bit because like I said the head feels a little heavy for me if you’re a faster swing speed player maybe go a little bit firmer on the shaft flex than you normally would overall it feels like a pretty solid club this grip i wouldn’t know if this is any different between their grip or it could just be another uh Golf Pride grip when drivers are now costing 7 and $800 to be able to get this at a fraction of the cost not a bad deal at all so I hope you guys enjoyed the video if you have any questions or comments make sure to leave those down in the comment section and as you know I reply to all my comments except the nasty ones if you enjoyed the video like comment subscribe until next time Mr shore hitter out just play 13

  1. Thanks. I was looking at driver components today. I wanted to find an inexpensive adjustable driver but couldn't. So your review was very timely.

  2. Interesting driver, my swing speed for driver might be 75 to low 80s can’t remember exactly, but it’s usually the sound and cost factor vs a real good second swing club, for instance I’m playing a Callaway epic speed driver 9 but lofted up to 11 which I bought on ebay for $135 sold the shaft that came with it because of previously playing the 2014 big bertha alpha driver buying the alpha head for around $50 using the same shaft bought for around $60 with a odyssey lab putter shaft weight that I had on a shelf after adjusting the putter length and not able to get weight back in, and so put the weight in the driver shaft which was lighter after adjusting its length for my 5’6” frame as experiment and really liking the feel plus was accurate. Have no idea on the distance as the indoor simulator numbers has away of confusing me with the outdoor numbers. Hoping it’s somewhere over 200 yards.

All this to say if the price is right will try the Lazrus driver to see if it’s better then what I have, sometimes have to experiment for yourself, I’ve only golfed one time so far this year and it was a scramble tournament , so looking forward to playing some relaxed golf

  3. Another informative and fun video. But a question. Did I miss the second mini driver video ? Were you able to make a video with an approximate 13 degree mini driver? If so I unfortunately missed it. Love your videos MSH.

  4. When you're driving, your vids should be playing a clip of the Crosby classic, "Straight Down The Middle".

  5. Wow it looks pretty good as a low cost budget Driver! You had some really good drives! Thank you for bringing us along!

  6. Thanks MSH for the informative review. This looks like a viable option for a reasonable priced Driver. I have their 58 degree wedge and have picked up some of their hybrids that I’ve been pleased with. It would have been interesting to see how the stiff shaft and you adjusting loft down to move launch angle to your preferred range to see what maxed out numbers you’d get. Thanks again!!

  7. I really appreciate you taking the time to demo/rate aftermarket & "direct to consumer" brands. In my experience building clubs, I've found that these smaller brands (when fitted properly to the player) keep up with (and sometimes surpass) the major OEM's. So many of the DTC brands are built on open foundry blanks, which are proven designs that the major OEM's also use. Good stuff, MSH! And you're right…. that driver is loud!

  8. Thanks for the club review. I've actually bought several drivers from the Callaway Used site. Clubs in "good' condition usually look like new, perform well and are hundreds less. Keep up the great work. You are very much appreciated.

  9. NICE! For the price point the average Golfer probably is probably hitting this club nearly as good as anything from TaylorMade at a fraction of the cost.

  10. I wonder if you put in a shaft that fits your swing you would get more consistent numbers. That is a good deal.

  11. Lazarus clubs are impressive each time you demo them. Im going to check them out when I am in the market. Worth a try IMO

  12. I also did a review on this club, and had to go with the stiff shaft.. But Lazrus makes exceptional equipment with great customer service! Thanks for your video
