physiology in fourth year being a cancer here is what this wonderful athlete wrote about herself being a Cancer Center volunteer throughout my life at University has included assisting patients that are undergoing cancer treatment by applying food and beverages in the chemotherapy Suite taking patients to and from appointments as well as emotional support volunteering in a skeletal muscular biology and cell laboratory the lab aims to study the biomedical me molecular mechanisms regulating autoag and oppus in skeletal muscle in particular being interested in how mitochondria function and Dynamics biogenesis mitophagy fision and fusion at topis influence skeletal muscle formation regeneration adaptation and function with hope that a cure for muscular distopy can be found wow okay being a rise up Mentor throughout University athletic department assisting first year athletes with being oriented with school and program as well as facilitating meetings and activities to integrate students new to University athlet athletes to University new student athletes University volunteering with sexual violence prevention and response office at the University to spread awareness and resources throughout educational boost that promote safe sex culture laboratory teaching assistant focuses and leading laboratory inst structures for students feeling questions and or concerns that students have regarding material taught in class supervising students and completing specific tasks being one of the varsity captains on the women’s team being a Residence Life Dawn supporting students and throughout their time in Residence I don’t know about you folks but I am suitably impressed I am humbled and all that science stuff um proves that not only uh among many other things she’s a whole lot smarter than I am congratulations folks this is Katie netherton from University of water [Applause] [Music] the next community service award winner is a student athlete competing in the oua for the past two years years this athlete has proudly LED our varsity swim team in participa in the Canadian Cancer Run for the Cure this athlete coordinated his team’s development and involvement in the October event including Logistics and fundraising efforts impact raised approximately $1,500 as a team to support breast cancer research and programs commitment uh including uh the event typically occurring on Sundays which is the day off from training this athletes teammates and him and he I should say consistently dedicated themselves to this meaningful cause demonstrating a
